We passed by this udon place all the time and finally had chance to try it last weekend. It was a nice culinary experience! This restaurant is a stand-alone building with its own parking lot which has ample parking spaces. Double wooden doors give a Japan vibe and so do the interior decorations. We came on a Saturday at noon. The restaurant was crowded but we were quickly greeted and seated right away. Water was served and orders were taken quickly. Our food came out super fast! And we gobbled on it in no time. The udon was freshly made and has a nice texture, not too chewy but not too soft. Just fresh and perfect! Even after being immersed in the soup for a long time, the udon noodles still maintained their flavor, shape and texture. We ordered the Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe and the Katsu Curry Udon. The soups were perfectly made! Light, full of flavors and not salty at all. Really authentic, in my opinion. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we will definitely come back to try other dishes .

We usually go to the Mtn. View location and finally decided to try this one. This place is pretty crowded during the week nights and we had to wait about 20 mins. Once seated, service is good and food came out pretty fast. Interestingly, they have a few more dishes in their menu that are not offered in the Mtn. View location. We ordered: - Chicken Karaage: Crispy outside and tender inside. The portion size is on the smaller side and wasn't served as hot (temp) compared to the Mtn. View location - Crispy Onigiri Bites (with Chashu): Excellent. Chashu is tasty and the onigiri is crispy. This one is available only at this location. - Miso Black Cod (2 pcs): Delicious. Soft, melt in your mouth buttery and flavorful - Nabeyaki Udon: Light and satisfying. Quality is same as Mtn. View location - Unagi Siero Set: This is a pretty big set good enough for 2. Comes with eel over rice in a steamer basket, veggies in a steamer basket, fried tempura and side of udon. In general, food is equally as good as the one in Mtn. View with minor differences. There is always a line if you come during peak time. Parking lot is small and you may need to find street parking.

Got the tonkotsu udon & niku bukkake udon. For the tonkotsu udon, I could really taste the fish in the broth. Nonetheless, udon's always a comforting meal. Noodles are cooked perfectly. Good portion! Spicy garlic edamame was a great appetizer! We also got the hot sake & Sapporo (so refreshing)! Good service with friendly & attentive workers. I was surprised to see how big the space was! It's dimmed inside but still good enough light. No issue with parking - plenty spots available around the restaurant.

This hit the spot! There was a long wait to enter. We just stopped by because we were in the area and were craving something warm. We've never heard of the place before but it was clearly very popular. We were just 2 so we were seated in 10mins, but others that were a party of 4+ that were in line before us had to wait for 45min+. So I would not wait here for more than 20min for the food, but 10min is fine enough. We got the beef donburi with a mini udon, as well as a curry udon with a side of shrimp and veggies tempura. The beef donburi was very good and hit the spot, as well the curry udon. You just can't go wrong with those orders imo. I wish we didn't get the sides because that was just too much food. Service wasn't the best but that's to be expected since it was so packed. We had to catch our waiters attention everytime we wanted to order, get more water, or get the check. And that was pretty hard to do, to get them to look at us because they were just running around. We were seated on a counter top with other people and we didn't mind but it's something to note if that's not your favorite type of seating.

Not sure if I went on an off day, but all of the udon dishes were INSANELY salty. Everyone at the table was struggling to eat more than a few bites and the udon noodles themselves were not bad, but the texture isn't as bouncy as I'd like. Vibes wise, it's very family friendly and they have a decently sized parking lot all to themselves. Arrived on a Saturday just after 5PM and there were still plenty of tables, but there was a short line by the time we left. The saving grace for the meal was the variety of tempura which were super lightly crispy and came out piping hot. The vegetables all had a super satisfying texture and at the very least I can recommend this over both udon dishes I tried (Mentai Cream Sauce Udon and Niku Bukkake Udon).

Came here with family and had such a great experience! The restaurant itself was pretty busy when we went. The food was honestly so good, very rich and creamy flavors, but what really made me want to leave a 5 star review was how kind and careful the staff were with my little cousin's allergies (she is allergic to a lot of stuff). They took everything super seriously and made sure there was no cross contamination. They even separated her toppings into different bowls just to be extra safe in case she reacted to something. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. It made our whole family feel really comfortable eating there. Amazing service and amazing food, definitely coming back!

We came here on a weeknight for dinner and we didn't have to wait too long for a table for 2. The udon was good and the broth was very tasty, but I wish it had come out a bit hotter in temperature. Both of our soups were a bit too room temperature for my liking. Service was quick and attentive. Parking was also a bit tricky because it is a packed area with lots of restaurants, but we were able to find a spot in the parking lot nearby.

Experience (3/5 stars): *Food: the mentai cream sauce udon was good and flavorful. *Price: ~$20 *Service: our waiter wasn't as attentive and we had to get help from others. we also noticed our beer glass had lipstick stain from a previous customer which was pretty disgusting.. Overall, it's a light yes for me. Good food, but service was lacking.

My friend recommended this restaurant to me, and I'm so glad I came. It was my first visit, and I absolutely loved it. The food is fresh, delicious, and full of flavor, with beautiful presentation in every dish. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and very attentive, making sure we feel comfortable throughout the meal. The service is fast but never rushed. The restaurant has a warm, cozy, and stylish atmosphere, beautifully decorated and very clean. It's a relaxing place to dine, whether alone or with friends and family.I will definitely come back again and highly recommend this restaurant.

Went there tonight. Wednesday night around 7:45pm, no line. Actually, pretty empty. maybe this week is spring break. 1) Decor is nice 2) This location feel more spacious. I went to the Mountain View location before. 3) Clean 4) Waiter/workers are nice 5) Food is very good. 6) one salmon special with rice/fish eggs and has mini udon. around $27. That one is pretty good Highly recommended, wll be back.

Ask the Community - Udon Mugizo - San Jose

Can you order takeout bento without dining in?

Hello Sally T Yes, we do…

Is there a to go option?

Yes, there is. You can also buy *just* the uncooked noodles, as well, to take home and add to whatever soup you desire.

What time do they open for lunch, 11am?

    Yes 11am everyday!

Can they accommodate large parties (8-9) assuming we call ahead and make a reservation?

Yes! When we went, we had 8 in our party. We did reserve in advance and I would recommend that because it does get packed.

What are the vegan options for udon? Is the broth vegetable-based?

Maybe the closest thing is the vegetable udon, but I would call and double check just in case.

Can the vegetable udon be made warm? (Looking for warm veg/vegan options)

They serve vegetable udon warmly. Tell the server.

It feels just like a warm hug in a bowl! Their cold noodles, both spicy and non-spicy versions, are refreshing and perfect for cooling down summer heat. We also almost always order the mo deum soo yook for extra protein. It's a combination plate with boiled beef brisket, tail, and tendons. You will have to season them yourself with salt and pepper, but beef is always so soft and tender. I highly recommend ordering this only if you're dining with a group of 3 or more because the portion is huge! After finishing your meal, they'll serve you a yakult, super yummy and great for digestion (super thoughtful of them) They're busy and almost always have a waitlist, especially during peak dinner hours. I got the galbi tang and they gave a good amount of beef! I was able to take home for a second meal :) i also love their kimchi. maybe around 10 minutes after we got our soup, we had asked for refills on the sides. when we got the refills, we also got our bill. we were no where close to being done eating and the servers would constantly check our table to see if we're done or needed boxes. while we were boxing our leftovers, the server aggressively took our soups (half way in the air trying to pour it) from us and packed it herself. my friend was trying to get the bone out first but the server was just awfully impatient. The whole dine-in experience felt very uncomfortable, especially since we were still actively eating.

Uzumakiya had beef broth, supposedly oxtail broth. It's lighter in consistency than the ramen broth. Tasted more meaty without being heavy or fatty. The noodles were thicker but not chewy. The chashu (pork) slices that came with it was tender with just enough fat to give it the umami flavor. The Tonkotsu Ramen had the thinner noodles. The broth was creamier and richer than the beef broth but not bold or complex compared to other ramen broths I've had but still has a nice balance of flavor between the pork and dashi. Had the same chashu slices. Had more umami flavor than the Udon. Love the Hojicha Panna Cotta. Very smooth consistency. I felt like I'm eating something fancy but not heavy. Your greeted immediately it seems pretty clean inside the straw too. The parking was a little confusing, but it was easy to figure out after looking at the map a little bit more. I like the sauce/seasoning options as well and they have fish sauce in actual chili vinegar sauce which was dope.... Ok but SERIOUSLY I just sipped some broth... it's SO GOOOOOOOOD. They use a pork broth and I think I'm obsessed. I got the seafood noodle soup. It didn't have the crab claws, unfortunately but they did a substitute with more calamari as requested. I also got a side of spring rolls which were fire.

There was a bit of a wait and you can waitlist on their ipad inside. We waited for about 20-30 minutes.    Before getting seated they ask if you want to do the normal hot pot style or AYCE. The AYCE runs for 90 minutes and is $24.99 during lunch and $30.95 during dinner time. They also charge for leftover food which is $6 per lb. We ended up doing the normal one pot hot pot for each person.    I always get my usual lamb hot pot which already comes with vermicelli noodles and choose rice as my free side dish. There are various levels of spiciness and I chose extra spicy which is a level down from there flaming spicy from what I can recall. Honestly it was not spicy enough but I did not want to get the spiciest level in fear that it would be too oily. Perhaps I will try that the next time to see if it is.    They have a bar further in the back of the restaurant where you can get creat your sauce and get some garnishes for your hot pot. I also noticed they have some other sides like noodles and such next to it. It seems if you are not participating in AYCE you can still get sauces and garnishes but I am not sure about the other sides.    The interior has changed from the last time I came here and it looks nice! Service was standard and everyone was nice. It does feel more chaotic now that they have AYCE but that  is understandable.

The steak was flavorful, the sauces complemented each other perfectly, and that classic sizzling presentation made the whole experience even better. I also tried the beef noodle soup. It leaned slightly on the sweeter side, but I actually really enjoyed it because the broth had so much depth and flavor. Compared to a lot of other restaurants where the soup tastes flat or bland, this one had a much richer flavor profile. Overall, the food felt comforting and nostalgic, reminding me of the Taiwanese sizzling steak houses and noodle shops I grew up visiting. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu.

It was solid, with good noodles, generous amount of pork, some fish cakes, veggies, and an egg. The broth was good, but not top tier. In a place that sells many types of dishes and doesn't specialize in ramen, I understand everything can't be best-in-class. The egg, though, was hard boiled and didn't have a soft center, which I like. That seemed like a bit of a shortcut to be honest. My wife ordered a sizzling dish and liked it - perhaps that's their speciality. Service was good, the inside was pretty typical - nothing fancy, but nothing missing either. Good overall, would come here again for convenience and because the food is solid.

I personally found their side dishes to be only okay; the fish cakes were a little tough, and the variety didn't appeal to me as much as some others that I have had. That said, the main dishes are really good. I have tried their seafood pancake & crab tofu soup, both of which I really enjoyed! I will say that, the following day, I felt really bloated with sodium, which dampens my enthusiasm a little bit, but overall the food was great. Parking was pretty easy, as the shop is located in a plaza with a number of other shops, including other eateries. The interior is on the small side, though--despite really cramming the tables in, there was still a decent wait, as the spot seems popular as a dinner location. I think it's worth the wait, personally. Overall, I do recommend this spot. The food is great, the service is efficient, and their menu is appealing. The prices & portions are standard to what you can expect from a tofu soup spot, but the wider variety of tofu soups stands out. I might limit my visits, as the bloating is definitely a bit uncomfortable, but I do plan to come back.
