Kaladi's Coffee Bar, is located in cute little downtown Galena, right on Main Street. After a long night, I was ready to have a relaxing day moseying through Galena's shops and sipping on a latte...or two, if possible. I spied Kaladi's and thought they looked cute enough to try. At first, we waited a couple minutes to be acknowledged. I believe there was only one person working. She looked like she could of used an extra hand. I proceeded to order my latte and requested honey, but was told they did not have any. I would of purchased a pastry of some sort, but they only had about six total in their bare case, none of which looked worth trying. Once I received my drink, I circled the corner towards the sugars, and what to my wondering eyes did appear, but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer! Okay, no, there were no reindeer. It was just a full bottle of honey. Aside for that now leaving a bad taste in my mouth, the latte itself was enjoyable. We chose to plop down on a couch to enjoy our drinks, catch up on some things, and relax for a few minutes. The music played overhead was what one would expect to hear when entering a club on spring break in Cancun. They did alternate with smoother songs, but always came back to the club. Not what you would expect to hear at a coffee shop. Now remember, Kaladi's is cash only. There is an ATM inside if you so choose, but bring that paper or you'll have to pay more. read more

Well, they deserve another star in my opinion. They've done updates to their business since the last time I've been there. I will say that it's a different look with the booth seating, however given the amount of food I serve I'd say it works a bit better than just coffee shop tables. It's a comfortable place to stay and the people there were more courteous than last time and the drinks were quite tasty. We stopped in as we were on our way out of Galena for our last visit. The hot chocolate was disgusting. Basically water. The guy working the register didn't seem to care we were there, he was more interested in chatting with his co-workers... Who were actually working. He also failed to mention they offer a cash discount, which I learned because the very next customer was TOLD there is a cash discount! Always friendly. Coffee is delicious and made pretty promptly. Baked goods are excellent if they haven't sold out before you get there. It can get crowded during Coffee Time especially on the weekends, but I still recommend it over the Trolly Coffee shop across the street. read more

The woman at the counter did an amazing job keeping the line moving and knocking out drinks! I was really impressed! Interior is cute, although for some reason I cant shake the notion that it is more "corporate" and "set" than it needs to be. You aren't Starbucks, Kaladi, just ease up a little and just BE the neighborhood coffee house. I did appreciate it was one of the few places open early on the day after Christmas, so I was able to get my caffeine fix and not be a raving lunatic. The coffee was decent, although I was a bit sad they only had one drip coffee type available (out of something like 10 noted on the board). I cant really say about the service or the price, since I was treated to my coffee that day, but they did have a nice looking menu with a lot of options and a lot of people were in there at the time. I cant think of any other coffeehouse in Galena so until they have competition, they get 4 stars from me. Caffeine always wins in the end. read more

We were walking by on a rainy night. They were closed and the owner noticed us peeking in so he unlocked the door and invited us in. He was so friendly and my husband said his americano coffee was really good - noted the beans were freshly roasted. I chose a hot tea from the wide selection available. Cute little place, coffee was good but I would have loved if they had more food/snack items for purchase. I also think the prices could be cheaper for a local shop. The prices were comparable or worse than Starbucks. They had a banjo player entertaining the day we dropped in and I thought that was kind of cute though I didn't enjoy his songs. I also thought the 4 tip buckets scattered around were a bit much. Have them share some of the money they're getting from the overpriced coffee drinks :) Aside from the tourists (like us) people tend to know each other pretty well and that lends to the neighborhood feel of the joint. read more

Cute place. Seem to be run by nice family. Perhaps the comparisons to Starbucks aren't appropriate given that it's a small town feel and the typical small-town experience. I would say that this is better than a Starbucks for that reason. If you want cheap prices and consistent product, try McDonald's. The café was actually huge. It's actually much bigger than most of the stores on the main street. There were plenty of places to sit and read local publications. There is also artwork on the walls that is for sale. Overall a great place to relax after doing some shopping. There was no free Wi-Fi that I could find at the location which surprised me. However, it was also a nice change to not be able to connect to your digital life. I also think it prevents people from sitting there all day with a laptop, which is a nice change from the city. read more

My hubby and I stopped in he had iced coffee and said was great. I had double shot espresso with a little water in large white cup with a little vanilla sweetener and whipped cream, was excellent!! Visiting from Chicago and working for a coffee company, I love discovering local coffee shops while on vacation. This place had lots of sit down seating that was both comfortable and spread out. It was great to see take home bags of coffee from different single origins along with teas. The biscotti appeared to be made in house as it was a bit softer than expected. They also had over 5 varieties to choose from! We decided to try some barista style drinks with the caramel apple cider and salted caramel mocha - so good we came back the next morning for another round! This is the best spot for an awesome cup of coffee. My wife arrived while the place was in the process of closing up and the owner graciously invited us in. He recommended some coffee for us and it was beyond awesome! They have a very inviting atmosphere and the smells are phenomenal too. They've been on main street for a long time, and will be the only coffee shop we visit next time we're in town. According to their hours the store is open till 7pm on Saturdays. My girlfriend and I went there at around 5pm to drink coffee and read, but when we ordered our drinks, they refused serving them in mugs because they were "closing soon". That alone wasn't necessarily the problem--I know businesses on occasion close early. But they would not explain why they were tryIng to close early, and no signage was prominently posted about these irregular business hours. If you are visiting Galena or walking in the area you want to avoid this coffee shop!!! Years ago this place was nice and reasonable but recently I've had nothing but disappointments since the ownership/management switched. I had been going there for years regularly. First, they stopped making their amazing fresh-squeezed orange juice. Then, the quality of their coffee went down. Then, their prices went WAY up. They also do not accept credit cards, so you have to go to their ATM inside if you want to get something and don't have cash. I am now inly going to go to the Devour coffee shop down the street which has better coffee, better prices, a friendly staff, and beautiful atmosphere. I had a terrible experience there today that made me feel awful. We were walking around the downtown area and it was late and almost every other shop was closed, so me and my boyfriend went in to use the bathroom. We were kinda desperate to go quickly. I came out and the man and woman working there were talking smack about me in Spanish. I don't think they knew I understood them. Then, the woman (barista???) came up to me and started going off angrily and calling me a "disrespectful asshole" for not buying anything first or asking if I can use the bathroom (I'm not in kindergarten, lady!). She obviously does not understand what customer service means for a small coffee shop in a small town with repeat customers. Then my boyfriend came out of the restroom and bought a tea, which he was going to do anyways. I want to like this place more. But to me, I feel like if there was another espresso option in Galena I would be there. They have me by the throat. It's the only place to get Espresso while I am in town. I hate repeating myself. I have repeated my drink sometimes 4 or 5 times here. Large sugar-free vanilla all ice Americano. Is it that hard? Then, if you are ordering say 4 drinks...good god, it is like you are ordering 27! Anyway, the end result is good coffee, but the experience could be a bit better in my opinion. Vacationing always leaves us in our super-snobby-about-coffee moods. We're so critical in making our own coffee that nothing else can match it! Galena was not an exception, yes the whole town. The coffee at the hotel was like water so we were zombies roaming the streets our first morning out. I saw a large neon sign that said "Open" and "coffee" and I said "we're going." We walked in and it was a starbucks-like motif with more varieties and similar pricing. It was decent coffee, which meant PHENOMENAL in Galena.
