Those of us who love coffee are extremely picky...it's got to be fantastic for me to say boo. Well, not only do I say "oh, yeah that's what I'm talking about" to Kaladi's - I go out of my way to go there if I'm anywhere near by. Best lattes ever - foam is creamy and delicious and the coffee itself is elegant. Tricky to get a really good latte that stays hot and has the right amount of coffee to milk. I took a last minute trip to galena. In the morning while walking Main Street I stopped in Kaladis for some coffee. I was NOT impressed at all with the coffee! I ordered an iced white chocolate mocha. Would never return for coffee! read more

I have two reasons for flying from Manhattan ( N.Y.) to visit Galena on a yearly basis. The first is to visit with my absolutely amazing sister-in-law. The second is to hang out in Kaladi's with my wife and that sister-in-law! Kaladi's is a beautiful coffee bar. It offers the very best choices of yummy goodies. To this day, it is the only place I trust to make me a mocha latte. When they do, it is out of this world. After wandering the streets of Galena I often can't resist returning there to have a second. The staff are top notch, always eager to assist. The cleanliness is beyond compare. The furniture is fun and extremely comfortable. I seriously recommend visiting Kaladi's. It's awesome! read more

We came in on a very cold day to grab a cup of coffee. The server who turned out to be the owner served us some lattes and apologized that there wasn't any music but the internet was down he said. Since we were the only customers in there we ended up chatting about Galena and how he decided to start a coffee shop. Some other customers came in and he again apologized for the lack of music so we decided to play some music from Pandora on my phone. My husband and I try to get away to Galena at least 4 times a year. We love the peace and quiet there. We personal love Kaladi's coffee its always just how we like it. They now serve breakfast and its so delicious; We had the sausage burrito but they offer vegetarian options as well. The owners Tony and Carmela have always been extremely friendly with our family. We used a groupon and got a great deal that included 1/2 lb of coffee. Since I have been home and used their coffee in my machine, I am very impressed! We got the Crumb Cake flavor and it is excellent! The selection of flavors for coffee was great! Tons of different options. The coffee portions are overly generous as well. The two women, I think mother/daughter, behind the counter were very friendly even though they were super busy. The only thing we didn't like was the layout and awkwardness of the whole place. There was kind of a line but no structure. There were two high tables for seating at the front but no room to walk around because of the huge roasting machine. Tony, the owner, was very nice and friendly - hails from NY via Chicago, discarded the rat race and relocated to Galena eventually establishing a coffee shop here - kudos, excellent choice. I love this place! I don't drink coffee but I do eat panini's and theirs is the best! I just relocated to Galena and they've made me feel so at home and welcomed. It's hard to believe what Ralitza said in a previous review. I've never known those boys to be anything but respectful to everyone that comes in there. Coffee was flavorless. Would have rather put dirt in hot water and drink it. Was in Galena on a cold day, and saw that they had 2 coffee houses on yelp. One had good reviews and one had bad reviews. and both were loacted on different ends of the strip downtown. My wife and I started walking one way down the street, so we walked into this place unfortunately. I had a peppermint mocha and my wife had a caramel machiatto. I think mine had more syrup in it, because it sucked less. But, that caramel machiatto tasted like someone ladled it from a latrine. And yet they have long lines, most likely first timers like ourselves. How can anyone sell coffee like this? Please stop going to this place and put these evil villains out of business. This is the worst review that I have ever yelped. I get sick even thinking about it, and it was 2 days ago. Blah!!!!! read more

In a word (or three): Worth the Hassle. Almost. It was hot outside. That sticky, sweaty, makes you want to bathe in deodorant hot. So we popped into Kaladi's for some nice, cold, refreshing drinks. An hour later, we had them. When we tried to pay for our drinks, our credit card would not go through. Oddly, their credit card system wanted our zip code, which we gave. Or thought we gave... Our zip code wasn't correct, their register claimed. We scrambled to try to figure out what the problem was, and finally came up with an answer: since my boyfriend's brother set the card up for him, it must be under his brother's zip code! Problem was, his brother lives in a town with about half a dozen zip codes. So we tried them all, and none worked. The woman at the register insisted that there was something wrong with our card, not her system, and we should call the credit card company. We went to a grocery store in town and bought a bag of chips. What a shock, the card worked. So we drove all the way back to Kaladi's and re-ordered our drinks and Pina Colada Muffin. A gentleman helped us this time, after the woman recounted our problem to him, and he showed her that their computer program for credit transactions wasn't running. After all of that running around and frustration, it wasn't our fault after all! He restarted the program, ran our order through, and then set about making our drinks. As an apology, he bumped our drink sizes up from mediums to larges. As for the quality, the drinks were absolutely delicious. We got a Cookies & Cream Kalavalanche and a White Chocolate Kalavalanch, and both were wonderful. Great flavor, not watery or diluted, ice cold but not painfully so. And the muffin? Our Pina Colada Muffin was fresh and hot, and so tasty! I was irked by the fact that they use foam cups, not paper, but maybe they are the biodegradeable foam? A little more expensive than I think it should be, but good for a once in a while treat, if you live in the area. I live near Barrington, IL, where they have another location, so maybe we'll pop by when we feel like indulging a little. Would return, on the assumption that such a ridiculous set of circumstances cannot possibly happen again! For now, though, 3 stars. read more

Decent coffee. Cash only. I don't mind the cash only, what I don't like is the ATM on-site charges a 3$ fee. So you get gouged if you need cash for a coffee. I got a refill of drip and it was nearly 3$. Just felt like I was ripped off. Internet and a place to sit was nice. read more

This place used to be great...as a home owner in the territory, and someone who has been coming to Galena for 20+ years, I was around when Kaladi's was brand new. It was a real hit back in the day. Boy, have things changed... My family and I have observed a gradual decrease in the quality of food/drink and service over the years at Kaladi's. And the experience that my mom and I had today was pathetic enough to convince us that we will NOT be returning again. My mother, grandma and I went into Kaladi's this afternoon for some hot drinks. First thing we noticed was how understaffed the place was; people were flooding in the doors in search of heat and hot drinks, and the staff was definitely not prepared for the influx of customers. We waited in a long line, and when we finally got to the counter, the girl at the register simply stared at us without so much as a hello. We said hello and asked her how she was, but she ignored our greeting and continued to give us this unwelcoming blank stare. It was obvious she didn't want us there, and she didn't want to be there. We ordered a cup of soup, a small coffee, 2 small chai lattes and a biscotti. It all came out to $20, which seems a little steep. When we noticed that the biscotti was almost $3, my mom asked, "Is a biscotti REALLY $3?" The girl gave an annoyed sigh, ignored my mom's question and said, "What kind do you want?" My mom proceeded to ask what kinds were available. The girl, clearly frustrated, and not making any attempt to hide it, said, "I don't know, go look." My mom asked another question, and the girl turned and walked away and ignored her altogether. I gave my mom a shocked look; I personally have been a server in a restaurant for 8 years, and I can't imagine treating my customers with such disdain! The girl gave my mom her expensive biscotti in a bag, without even thanking us for our business. The girl proceeded to make our lattes. When our chai tea lattes came up, we picked up the cups, and were shocked at how LIGHT they were...we opened the lids, to find that the $4 latte was only 3/4 full, at the most. "This is what we get for $4? A half-full cup?" To make things even worse, the latte barely had any chai flavor at all; it was nothing more than lukewarm milky water. It was the most pathetic excuse for a latte I've ever had. And, as a topping on the cake, the staff completely forgot our soup altogether. We stood there by the counter waiting...and waiting...and waiting. All while more and more people flooded in and inundated the front counter. Finally my mom had to interrupt another staff member and had to explain that we never got our soup. I walked back to the small table where my grandma was patiently waiting for her soup. I glanced at the table next to us where another woman was staring into her hot drink with an unhappy expression. She looked up at me and immediately, we knew what the other person was thinking. She said, "Is your drink only half full and lukewarm too?" I laughed and said yes, all three drinks that we ordered were that way. She went on to express her disgust with Kaladi's. I agreed, and told her that Kaladi's is just not the same as it used to be. My mom and I hung around and contemplated complaining to the girl about our lukewarm, watery "lattes" but her attitude was so poor, and they were so busy due to being understaffed, that we decided to just cut our losses, and leave. We decided that we will not be returning again. The prices are outrageous and the quality is very poor. It is not worth it, there are far better places to visit in downtown Galena. After almost a decade of loyalty to Kaladi's, we will NOT be returning again after today's experience. read more

My husband and I love Kaladi's. We're in Galena almost every month and have been coming to this coffee spot for about 5 years now. It's a family owned place that is so warm and inviting. Sometimes they may bicker (in a funny way) behind the counter while making your cup-o-joe that honestly is pretty entertaining. It may take a few minutes to get your drink but it's well worth the wait. Their cinnamon rolls and biscotti are amazing. Their coffee is the best in town and we look forward to returning time and time again. read more

Poor service. The workers sat on the couches anytime there wasn't a customer ordering. They were less than welcoming and made us feel like a burden. No music was playing, gave it sort of an awkward vibe. Coffee was way too strong. Just because you can make it that string doesn't mean you should. It was very, very expensive for what it was. Think $6 for a medium expensive. There are a few other coffee options down the street that were much better and reasonable. read more
