There's another coffee place nearby that we wanted to try, but it's not open on Sundays, so Kaldi's it was! That may have been for the best. I know Kaldi's has labor issues and might be paying their employees in coupons they can exchange for day-old baked goods, but that's neither here nor there for me, because I don't work there. And I know they once had a reputation for charging entirely too much for coffee and what have you, as if they were Whole Paycheck, but that's been rendered at least somewhat moot by the fact that everyone does that now. (I'd mention whom we have to blame for that, but I don't think it's necessary.) What a lovely location this place is in. If you time your Sunday morning run just right, you can arrive right as people are assembled, with their luggage, at the little train station next to the parking lot. Hopefully, they're not about to hop a train somewhere for tragic reasons. I used to travel by bus on occasion, and I've heard some stories. The inside is lovely. If they're overcharging, they at least spent some of it on the decor. The lights are dimmed, like at a fine-dining establishment. If you can convince a girl on Hinge to meet you somewhere for coffee, and you don't want her to see what exactly you look like, this place would be perfect. Also, if she's willing to meet IRL, and possibly give it up, in exchange for a $9 latte, chances are you're not gonna want to see what exactly *she* looks like. I've had the breakfast burrito from most local coffee places and only really cared for the one from Upshot, which might be the best thing I ever had in a restaurant. I figured Kaldi's offering wouldn't be anything to write home about but I'd try it anyway, for the sake of citizen food journalism. If this place has the unmitigated gall to charge a Section 8 rent payment for something you can get in the freezer at QT (with a free coffee, if you use the app), people need to know. Turns out that wasn't really the case. Their breakfast burrito isn't anything you just have to have, but it isn't half bad either. The ingredients are a cut above something you might get at a fast food restaurant, and I appreciate the way that the eggs, bacon, potatoes and what have you all seemed to be cooked together rather than layered on separately like in some elaborate bean dip. The bacon is greasier than you'd expect, in a good way, some of which carries over to the eggs and potatoes. A side of sour cream or salsa, or a bottle of Cholula on the table, would have really set it off. I guess coffee is what they're known for. I've had their regular coffee once or twice and recall liking it, but I've heard some people complain that it tastes burnt. But I know some people say the same thing about the coffee at Starbucks, and I might be the only person who likes that. (And yet they somehow manage to stay in business.) Kaldi's iced vanilla latte is surprisingly complex, for what it is. It's not overly sweet, and it's much more coffee-forward than the version I had a week before at Kentzo. Sometimes these things taste more like milk than anything else, which is fine with me, because I love milk, but this is probably how they're supposed to taste. If it's true what they say, that the labor here is not completely voluntary in nature, then at least they're running a tight ship. The consequences for subpar performance must be positively brutal. read more

The good and bad thing about this location is the ample seating and working space. This is realllly great but also can be hard during busy hours to find a spot to sit. My friend and I met at Kaldi's the other day before work. We ordered ahead so that we could pick up and then we went outside and sat at one of the tables on the large shared patio space. The weather was so nice that day so it was lovely to just sit outside and enjoy a coffee and an avocado toast. I appreciated that I could customize the toast and removed the hot sauce. I just wanted the avocado, feta and sesame seeds. I ordered a cold brew with oat milk for my drink. The toast was really good and so was the coffee drink. We enjoyed our breakfast and were both so glad to be able to sit outside on such a nice day. Afterwards, we wandered up to the Kirkwood market to browse some of the fall decor, fruits and veggies. Lovely morning spent at Kaldi's, complete with iced coffee, avocado toast, and gooey butter cake! Kaldi is counter service - they have the menu posted online and up on a screen above the counter. Once you order, you're able to find a seat inside or outside and they'll call out your name to pick up your drink order. If you order any food, they'll give you a number and bring your food out to you. They were very quick, even though they were pretty busy! They've got a great patio setup outside and cozy coffee shop vibes outside. We loved our iced lattes - they tend to have seasonal options as well. The avocado toast was delicious, I do wish there was more avocado on it - it was heavy on the bread. The housemade hot sauce it comes with is very good. The staff is really kind and pleasant, and there's always a space to find a seat. The coffee is delicious, and the space has such a local feel compared to other places. Parking can seem tight initially, but there is a free parking garage across from the building/ off of the side street. There is also one behind the building as well. Popped up to Kaldi's today to meet up with a colleague I hadn't seen in ages. I thought this would be the perfect place to meet. I was greeted as soon as I came in, and ordered my coffee and breakfast sandwich. The coffee was ready immediately and my sandwich was brought to my table fairly quickly. I forgot to ask for water, which was fine, because there's a tap and plastic cups on the condiment station, which is a great touch! Even on a workday, they still did a pretty brisk business, which was great to see. This is such a great downtown Kirkwood location for breakfast, coffee, or general meet up, catch up with friends. It has a huge patio that is absolutely beautiful to utilize when the weather is great outside. It also has a bunch of indoor seating available as well. Certainly family, friendly and the patio is dog friendly too. I do think the coffee is a smidge on the pricier side, but it is quality so we don't mind it because we are supporting a local business. I have to say I have not really eaten a ton of food there but every different coffee option I have ordered has been delicious. Definitely my favorite (not so little) coffee shop in my hometown. Every time I come to Kaldi's I'm filled with nostalgia with memories of my early high school self who would come here to sometimes study but mostly spend time with my friends. Little did I know back then, the coffee is amazing! Coming back now, it's mostly the same layout with a facelift. It's spacious with tables, booths, comfy chairs, and a community working area. I went with one of the holiday specials, the brown sugar and rosemary latte. This was one of the most unique lattes I've ever had! The rosemary is strong, but is balanced nicely by the coffee and brown sugar. If you're into super sweet drinks, this probably isn't for you, but I enjoyed the unusual flavor combinations and creativity. My husband ordered Kaldi's version of a peppermint mocha and really enjoyed it as well. I usually try to grab a slice of gooey butter cake whenever I pay Kaldi's a visit, because it's my FAVORITE from here. I've also tried plenty breakfast/lunch items on the menu and they are all solid. Kaldi's is definitely a busier coffee shop, but it has truly become a staple in Kirkwood and I'll continue to visit whenever I'm in town! read more

I came to Kaldi's to use my Experience Book to try a couple lattes. Both Kaldi's locations I've been to with this didn't know what it was and I had to wait for them to ask someone which is slightly annoying but not a big deal. This location seems to have a lot more seating than most Kaldi's, and I appreciated how safe the booths were with high plexiglass dividers. Staff were exceptionally friendly in Kirkwood, and the only reason I didn't give them five stars is that there was apparently some mixup with my order. After waiting 10 minutes for my drink, I asked about it and the barista apologised and made it immediately. Not sure what happened, but it was worth the wait. Overpriced and Unaccommodating Kaldi's has redone their menu, which is fine, it's their prerogative to do so. That said, they are extremely unaccommodating. As a diner with specific needs, they were 'unable' to assist, or they could alter a menu item - for example, not put the chicken in a salad, but they still wanted me to pay full price for the item - there was no accommodation. When I asked if I could just have a side or house salad, I was informed that there was no such item - there used to be, and while the staff was very nice about it, they couldn't help me. I asked if I could just get a bagel and instead of scrambled eggs, have soft boiled - that substitution was not allowed. How about just a bagel with cream cheese - sure I was told, but I'd have to pay the bagel and egg price - even without the egg. In the end, I got the yoghurt with granola and berries - literally 3 strawberry halves - so one and a half strawberries- for $7.00! So not worth the price. While their coffee is great, I cannot recommend them. read more

A great place to grab a coffee in the morning before heading to the farmers market. The coffee is solid, better than Starbucks by quite a bit in my opinion, and they have a lot of pastry options as well as a menu of hot dishes. We always enjoy the scones, breakfast sandwiches and quiche. My interactions with the staff have always been great, the employees have always been helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that the pastry and drip coffee prices have gotten very high, I paid over $4 for a blue berry muffin. It was very good and fresh, but on the pricey side. There is a parking lot next to the building and a parking garage behind the building where you can park for free.
