This might be the best coffee shop in the area, except that they don't have any food, that I'm aware of, other than a small selection of baked goods. But why would you want to eat food from a coffee shop? I've been visiting coffee shops on the reg for the past several weeks, and I've repeatedly made the mistake of ordering breakfast sandwiches, burritos and what have you. I have no one to blame for this but myself. I knew going in that it wasn't a good idea. I just couldn't help myself. This must be how people end up on drugs. There was a race going on nearby, when I visited 23 West yesterday. I wasn't involved, though I was there in a running capacity. My running group just happened to be meeting there. We ran a few miles in the neighborhood before our visit. By the time we got there, there was quite a crowd. The contrast between the sweaty, disheveled runners and the sleek, modern decor was striking. This place has an interior like some showroom where you're pressured into taking out a high-interest loan to purchase jewelry of questionable provenance. Are they in cahoots with the bank next door? Both buildings, I notice, have a similar facade. 23 West is painted the same shade of gray as a post-McPlayPlace-era McDonald's, when they started trying to look like a Chipotle. Some girls on apps prefer it if you didn't take them to get coffee. It's not expensive enough. If you can get one to agree to such a date, you might consider bringing them here. It's classy. The coffee is good too. I went with the Raspberry Cheesecake Cold Brew, a seasonal item. It was magnificent. I ordered mine to-go, so I could enjoy it at the tables out front, and in case 12 showed up. They give it to you in a tall plastic cup with no lid, filled to the point where it's nearly impossible to carry without spilling, presumably so you can sample the delicious cheesecake-like froth and probably get a little bit of it in your mustache. You can't really sip it with a straw. The coffee itself is surprisingly robust, given the depth of the raspberry flavor. It's an odd idea for a drink, and not something I'd usually order, but the execution was on point. I also went with a Cherry Almond Scone. I had to eat something, for emotional reasons, and it looked interesting. I'm no expert on scones, but I enjoyed it. It may have been the most dense baked good I've ever eaten, to the point where it could probably be used as a weapon, in a pinch. I know it's supposed to be similar to a biscuit and that in England, where they're consumed on the reg, a biscuit is known as a cookie (why?). It's a lot dryer than even the biscuits at a Lee's Famous Recipe, but intentionally so, I guess because it's designed to be eaten with a beverage. A hot beverage is probably ideal, but I made it work with a cold brew. It's the kind of thing you don't realize until after the fact. Next time I'll know. If and when I do return, I'll be dressed as a magician, possibly with a young lady in tow. read more

Cute, aesthetic coffee shop in Webster Groves. It has a cool but cozy ambiance that seems great for studying or working. I ordered the gingerbread latte with oat milk which was delicious and picked up a bag of the house blend beans. It seems like they only have one size option for lattes. which I'd guess was a 12 oz. cup. Parking is limited as it's only street parking, but we didn't have too much trouble even on a Saturday morning. Definitely would come back! Really cute place! I came here because I saw it suggested in a tiktok video. They had lots of options and I went with the seasonal banana bread shaken espresso! It was really good! They also had a lot of yummy looking pastry items, I asked the staff member what she recommended and she was really helpful in helping me pick something out. I ended up getting the almond poppy seed loaf and it was good! I really want to come back and get a matcha because I saw someone else get one and it looked super good! I also just grabbed my order to take it home and I think the space is beautiful so I would love to come back and hang out for a while! 23 West is such a cute spot. The interior is super stylish and well-designed. It is definitely one of those places that feels curated but still comfortable. There's also plenty of outdoor seating, which makes it a great place to hang out on a nice day. The staff was really friendly, and I have to give a special shoutout to the restroom setup. There's a very nice changing table stocked with complimentary baby wipes, which any parent will appreciate. It's a small touch that goes a long way. The only downside is that the prices are a bit on the higher side, and they do charge for even just a splash of oat milk, which always feels a little unnecessary. Still, it's a lovely place with good vibes and thoughtful details. I'd definitely come back for the atmosphere alone. read more

First time at 23 West! I can confidently say I'll be coming back :) This place has been on my list for a while. My friend put me on the STL Coffee Passport and once I saw this shop was on the list I thought I'd give it a try. I was greeted by a barista who shares the same name as me! Honestly, in addition to the great seasonal flavors and customizations for the coffee, it made my day. To drink, I've been sipping on the orange blossom latte with ube foam. This was a bit of a custom ask but as it's seasonal, I wanted to take advantage of all the flavors! It came out beautifully and tastes like a sweet and savory summer. To eat, I've been enjoying the blueberry muffin. I think I detect a bit of lemon! It's so good :) Rating this place a 5/5 because the vibes are amazing, it's remote worker friendly, the menu is massive, and the staff is so helpful and friendly. To the girl in the overalls that took my order and the sweet barista who made the pecan matcha for me: this latte made me a better person!!! This cafe gave me a great first impression from just the outside, the patio and inside dining room is gorgeous and extremely clean. I had heard about this place when they opened and had a vague idea of where they were located, but it took the discovery of their winter specials for me to stop by: specifically their gingerbread latte. The place itself is next to a bank and in front of Llewellyn's, with a shared lot in between the buildings. Since I stopped by on Christmas Eve, it was fairly quiet inside at the time, though it did look pretty inviting. They take their time with the drinks, so it does seem like a place better suited to lounge around and sip your coffee. The drink itself was pretty good, and unique to the other GBLs in town, mine had a slight kick to it. When we got there, they told us there was a bit of a wait so we expected there to be some awkward time waiting. I was so excited to hear a new coffee shop was opening in the area. I often frequent Clover & the Bee but that's more of a brunch spot for me. We came in the early afternoon on a weekend and it was busier than we expected with lines to the front door, minimal seating options inside, and a line of people waiting for their drinks. We waited and we're greeted by the sweet staff. The selection of baked goods was minimal but they do have a refrigerated section with some juices and quick snacks to grab on the go. The space is beautiful and can accommodate a good amount of people inside and out. We did enjoy the experience but this is still a fairly new place and they seem to be working out some of the kinks around service and getting drinks out quickly. I was excited to hear about 23 West Coffee opening and finally made my first (but not last) appearance. On my visit I decided to try a few classics--a vanilla latte & almond croissant. The coffee is VERY good. Wonderfully rich flavor I'm still thinking about the next day. The flavor & size of the croissant was great too--I do think their pastries are a touch more costly than alternative coffee shop options. The baristas all were very friendly and honestly do a very impressive job of helping you feel welcomed to the space. The shop has a very sleek appearance which could make the space seem cold & maybe less likely for folks to sit around and chat. I had been wanting to try 23 West for a while so I was excited to get to stop by a few weeks ago. They definitely focus on aesthetic and espresso drinks without a lot of sugary contents which is great. I would like to see a seasonal drink or two but I can appreciate just great coffee. I ordered an iced latte and a chocolate croissant. The iced latte came out quickly and was good. The chocolate croissant had way too much chocolate it was more candy bar consistency especially since I didn't have it heated. I absolutely love coffee and I love few things more than cozy coffee places! In this case, imagine a posh hotel coffee shop with marble and glass and displays. Very fancy. Parking is weird; there's a few spots behind the building that go through to Moody and street parking on Lockwood. Came in and the place was relatively full with most people seated with seemingly 3/4 of the place already had drinks. I waited 35 minutes for the iced latte and I was the second person in line when I got there. Sadly, just too long to wait for a single coffee. I think they are new and working out the kinks and I saw the owner running around serving, checking people out, etc, trying to make things happen. It'll get better over time. Iced latte was good, a little stronger than I'm used to so next time I'll ask for a touch more caramel and I'm positive it will be perfect. Glad to have another new business in my town! read more

We visited opening weekend to get the scoop! We ordered an iced chai (my favorite), flat white , and cappuccino side-car. You can place your order "for here" and get real glassware and coffee cups. Or, get your order "to go" and you'll get disposable plastic. Just something to keep in mind if you want to be environmentally conscious. Not only do they have coffee and chai, they have everything else: espresso drinks, pour overs, chai or matcha tea, hot chocolate, frozen shakes, and even a pastry case! Grab a seat inside (plenty of outlets) or when the weather is nice, their patio is the place to be! Seating was tight during opening weekend and most people decided to get their orders to go. During our visit opening weekend, it took 40 minutes after ordering to get our drinks. I wish one of their staff members would have let us know they were on a super long wait. When we were leaving, they did have someone at the door letting new customer know about the wait time. I'm sure the wait will get better as the "newness" wears off. The entire staff was so friendly despite being slammed for their opening weekend. read more

Disappointing Service Experience I really wanted to like 23 West Coffee because of all the good things I've heard, but unfortunately the service today was frustrating. I ordered a drink that was made incorrectly, and when I politely brought it up, they refused to fix it. On top of that, my sister ordered a bagel and never received it until she had to go back up and ask about it. It just felt like we were being ignored or brushed off. A friend and I met here for coffee on Sunday morning and it was fabulous! Everyone was so very nice! It was clean, and very modern. I had a vanilla latte and a quiche! Both were delicious. We sat at the small table up front with four chairs that were very comfy. There were not a lot of people there at the time, but it started to pick up. Fantastic ambiance, great lighting, and plenty of seating, - making for a great place to work and relax. We came on a weekend morning, it wasn't too busy, and there was an open table allowing us to enjoy our drinks and work. The decor, furniture, and bathrooms were all notable as well . The staff were very kind and knowledgeable about the variety of beans they roast. The single origin drip coffee was fruit and citrus forward and speaks to the great quality beans. We also tried the liquid tiramisu due other yelp pictures - though it was rather underwhelming. It was majority foam, and the foam itself was mostly airy and not dense like other cold foams I've had before. There was minimal drink below that and it's hard to say that it resembles a tiramisu flavor, and thus, it is difficult to justify the cost. Come for the great vibes and local roasted coffee, pass on the speciality tiramisu drink. read more
