I wanted to like this place, but a smoothie, buffalo tofu wrap + greek fries, and elotes was $42 w tip. Buffalo tofu wrap and smoothie was p good despite the high price. The elotes was cold in places and overall quite lackluster. The server also didn't make it clear that greek fries were a $3 upcharge. I wouldn't have gotten them if I had known. I think the server may have been having an off day, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, the place gave me the impression of a higher priced, less heart and soulful version of the Chicago Diner... which I guess is nice to have in this part of town for some. I won't be back, but I'll be rooting for them to find more heart, soul, and affordable pricing nonetheless. read more

The cauliflower and waffles were great. Nice mix of syrup and frank's style buffalo sauce. My friends said the pancakes were pretty good, but didn't seem that different than the waffles. Which seems to be a problem here based on not only reviews but owners response about how many food orders were in the kitchen in the busy part of the night. Customer service, management, and staff training is the difference between a restaurant that succeeds and one that fails. Without this core foundation, people will come because it is Tabitha Brown's restaurant but you want them to ultimately come for the food. People aren't going to Disney World or Universal Studio's for the food and this isn't Disney or Universal Studios. The FOOD needs to be the main selling point, not just Tabitha Brown and veganism (as there are many excellent vegan restaurants and vegan dishes in Chicago). I say these things with love because I love Tabitha Brown and I want to see her restaurant survive. Fixing these issues will lead to a successful business. A little less oil, salt, and more flavor will also help too. Heck, if this was just a place to get vegan soul food and that was all that was on the menu, this place would be popping 24/7. Really wanted to love this place, I swear. Went in for dinner around 8PM. We sat out back and the lights were super bright but the space was clean and cute. Sangria was good, but I question how much alcohol was actually in it. Empanadas were the best thing we ordered and they were subpar. I ordered the Southern Supper and was missing the quinoa, had end-of-the-batch fries that were half burnt/half soggy, and the cauliflower wasn't great either, but I'll say that the kale was decent. The biggest disappointment was probably the cheesecake we got to go. Passion fruit was the flavor of the topping, burnt to a crisp was the flavor of the crust...like inedible level of burnt. My wife and I have known Nemanja for years, but since we live in the Phoenix area we have not been able to go before now. We will be back. My wife and daughter love the Cauliflower Wings. I wasn't sure as to why i was asked to sit in the back area if my food was going to come out in the front. This venue is better than I expected. We ordered a variety of food, for the most part, we were pleased with everything. The award winning cheeseburger was delightful with a side of kale, the Oyster Pita Wrap was yummy, the Lentil soup is amazing and the bowl is a large serving (perfect for sharing). The ajvar was tasty just think it would be better warm, but idk, I did warm up my left overs and it was delish. The kombucha is good, not as strong and bubbly as the store bought ones. Then the Nozeco, aka dry champagne, was interesting couldn't really gather the flavor I was tasting, but satisfying; one person said it tastes like cider and the girls LOVED the Green tea shots made with a special strong tequila. Would love to return for a tea party, they have reasonable packages already put together, takes away some of the thought process. The venue wasn't too packed, perfect amount of people there in my opinion with plenty of free street parking on this Sunday evening. I do hope to return at a later date.
