Kale My Name is a tasty vegan restaurant tucked away in a quaint neighborhood. My group and I visited the restaurant around 8 p.m. My group of four ordered two strawberry daiquiris, mac balls (Mac and cheese balls), a taco salad, jackfruit wrap, Beyond meet tacos, and Buffalo tufu wrap. Despite the mac balls being deep fried mac and cheese, they tasted pretty "healthy." If you're visiting Kale My Name, you're probably a fan of healthy, vegan options. But this appetizer just missed the mark for me. There were four to an order, so perfect for us. All of my group mates really enjoyed their food. For the price, the portion sizes are really good. My taco salad was pretty large, but for me it had too much arugula. The strawberry daiquiris were fairly weak as well. The environment of the restaurant is pretty cool. The lights are dim and a bright pink neon sign is on one of the mail walls over a couch - a good photo op. The staff were very friendly too! I would like to revisit Kale My Name for breakfast or a smoothie to get the full, well-rounded experience. But I think I'd recommend this place to folks who enjoy the vegan and/or vegetarian dining experience. read more

This place is like a hug! My friend and I delighted with a meal on their patio. Our server were SO friendly and just everyone there made us feel so at home. I got their cauliflower wings and waffles and my friend got their Caesar wrap. Their cauliflower wings are some of the best I've ever had! They have just the right amount of seasoning and really crispy breading. The waffle was also stellar and very flavorful. So surprised everything was gluten free that is such an accomplishment. First, they package things really nice (see pics) and the food portions are generous. Outstanding flavors and a diverse menu. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower wings (SO GOOD), feta fries, avocado ceaser burrito (we both agreed it was our favorite) and the taco trio (avocado was my favorite). Kale My Name is a comtempary, high vibe astmosphere with scrumptious vegan food. I ordered the cauliflower wings and waffles with a side of Beyond Meat sausage. My husband ordered the gluten free pancakes with Beyond Meat sausage and side of the rosemary potatoes. First of all, the cauliflower wings were the best I've EVER had. They were perfectly seasoned and breaded. Generally, I've found that restaurants have a hard time getting the breading to stay fixed to the cauliflower -- making it soggy and crumbly. That is not the case here at Kale My Name. That feature alone is why I give them high praise! The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the waffle was good. Please note that you get three very large pancake -- so you won't be hungry afterwards. The customer service was phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I've always wanted to eat healthy but was always disappointed when eating healthier. I'm a meat lover, gluten seeking, lactose intolerant mama who may look healthy but feel like crap. Gotta say this place blew my mind. I ate the avocado tacos and it was so much better than tacos I got anywhere else. I mean kale in a taco? Whoaaaa tasty. I also ordered the fries bc I thought I wouldn't get full by tacos, big mistake. Didn't even try the fries till I got hungry again. This place maybe pricier than expected but worth it. I greatly appreciate the extensive menu. The Buffalo cauliflower wings are pretty good. My party of 4 tried the trio of tacos; we didn't like the jackfruit and fruit tacos, we didn't finish them off. --Kale my name!! --Heisenberg --Ya, you betcha! Thus begins season 8 of Breaking Kale, with me as the stereotypical Minnesotan in the title role. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist, though maybe it's all for the best. Kale puns and references abound at Kale My Name. I didn't care for them, but maybe you'll be amused by them. (Kale me all night and Don't Kale the toilet are two such gems.) The food gets five stars easily. It's all plant-based and the presentation is impressive. The menu has many choices. We got the veggie burger (the one that's made in house and named after a person... I forgot her name... maybe her name was Kale? ;-) ), fries, seitan tacos, cauliflower wings anda seitan wrap. Everything was big and delicious and I recommend it all. What fell short was the service. Service was friendly but inattentive. We had to wait many times for things, including getting our check, and the dirty dishes piled up weren't cleared a single time during our meal. We asked for no straws, but got straws. (Fortunately they use paper instead of plastic straws, at least... but we didn't want any.) We did get several water refills, so that's something, but it felt uncoordinated and that people weren't concerned much about our well being. It's annoying enough that I don't think that I'd return (no big loss) and I considered taking off two stars instead of just one. I do recommend the cuisine though. I had high expectations for this place, considering all of the "best of" awards they've been dominated for. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. My first turn off is that they only have a QR code menu. I get it- it's more convenient for the restaurant, but to me it feels lazy. When I'm sitting down at a restaurant I don't want to be forced to scroll on my phone, it's much better experience to read a proper menu. Also makes it easier to view everything at once. It didn't help that the menu felt extremely all over the place, I didn't find the options to be that great. They felt random. Our waitress didn't help much either. She didn't have much to share in terms of recommendations We ordered the chips and guac to start. The chips were a bit stale and the guacamole was absolutely flavorless. Tasted like it was store bought. The buffalo cauliflower was pretty good! I ordered the cheese sticks which themselves were excellent. However, the sauce they came with did not match. Would have been better with some sort of red sauce. Overall everything was just okay. Nothing terrible and certainly nothing to write home about. I hope they can take time and really perfect their dishes, perhaps add a few more comfort entres. read more

I haven't actually eaten here yet. I strolled by on a Saturday morning, hungry, interested in the menu. I walked in to a completely empty restaurant. Stood by the door for a minute or two, then walked around trying to find someone. I ended up waving to a man in the kitchen to say hello to let somebody know there was a customer, then sat down. I proceeded to sit for several more minutes, the kitchen man walked by me and then exited the restaurant. By then I was pretty certain there didn't seem to be any urgency to ensure I'd get service, so I walked out. Throughly bizarre experience. Real shame cause the place seems cute. read more

My brother recommended this restaurant knowing I have a-lot of diet restrictions and mainly eat vegan. First, the restaurant is fairly easy to find and street parking is ample. The restaurant is very cozy and would be a great place to hang out with friends over drinks and appetizers. I was quickly greeted by a friendly and high energy employee. Ordering is pretty easy as it is online menu accessible via QR code though I needed some help because I am click happy. I had a difficult time choosing because everything sounded so appetizing! So I finally settled on the greek fries and jackfruit tacos (see pics below). Well, I had couple of fries with their homemade aioli dipping sauce! Yummo! Then the tacos came out and devoured them as the seasoning was perfect and the jackfruit was moist and the texture fantastic! I did order couple of things to go to share with my brother! I had to go dairy free a few years ago for health reasons. I didn't think I would find cheesecake love again. I've tried a few and have always stopped after a bite or two. This tastes amazing! The texture is gorgeous, the flavor is SO good!!! I had to stop myself from finishing it so I could have it again tomorrow. I got the jackfruit lox it comes on a everything bagel w/ cream cheese, tomato, red onion, jackfruit, kale and rosemary potatoes. The jackfruit lox was amazing! I also got the cauliflower wings with waffles. That's too was delicious. For my drink I got the piña con nada their non-alcoholic version of piña colada. I appreciate they have a mocktail and cocktail menu. The inside is pretty they have several tables, bar, and a section for tea parties. Their Kale My Name neon sign is great for photos. I love the idea of Kale My Name, and the restaurant and porch themselves are beautiful. I've also had a few things there that are quite good-- the tequeños stand out. They also have some kid-friendly options, which is nice. However, I've also had quite a few dishes that I've food to be really average or even below average. That's not to say that it's bad, because it's not, but it's nothing that blew my mind or made me what to go back. I've also had non-vegans ask me things like, "Are vegan smoothies supposed to be warm?" In addition, the times I've gone have sometimes involved long waits for food (one time for dine in and once for take out). I'm happy they are around, but they could be even better. Then again, they don't seem to be hurting for customers or great reviews, so maybe I am an outlier on this. read more

Although I am not vegan/vegetarian, I wanted a kale caesar salad and found the name of this place to stand out when I came upon it on Yelp. Everything tasted amazing. I haven't had vegan cheese before but was in complete disbelief that it and everything else was plant-based. The cheese sticks even came with garlic aioli, and it's vegan??!! So flavorful and melty, kinda reminded me of garlic bread. Fries could have been crispier but still had great flavor, too! Loveddd their lentil soup. Wrap was yummy and hoping to try the jackfruit one next! And lastly, the kale caesar had the perfect amount of dressing, and the sun-dried tomatoes were a great addition. I love supporting new businesses, especially neighborhood restaurants! I am very happy to have given Kale My Name a try - and I definitely plan to revisit. It really elevated the experience. 2. GOOD PORTION - in fact, I couldn't quite finish what was in front of me! 3. GREAT TASTE - my boyfriend and I shared 3 dishes. The Buffalo Cauliflower Wings, Beyond Burger, and Fried Avocado Tacos. I seriously loved them all - and my favorite would be split between the burger and the tacos. The Cauliflower Wings were perhaps a tad spicy for my taste buds, but my vegan boyfriend had no problem with it and tried to convince me (a non-vegan) that I could substitute chicken wings with this. The jury is still out on that... but admittedly it would be a great substitute. 4. CLEANLINESS - imo one of the most important qualities right now... Always hard to find good vegan food. Especially when I am the only one in my family and my kids think vegan food is weird and gross. My only negative is the pitas were hard. I like them soft and cushy but I know at one time harder pitas were the only thing you could get. The jackfruit wrap, what a great different option for vegans other than the standard black bean burger or "impossible burgers" of today. I just omitted the corn since I don't care for that and I absolutely had a smile for every bite. That aioli- still can't believe it wasn't dairy based- it was so good and added just enough to sweeten the jackfruit. Those empanadas ohhhh!! So worth the wait! Large portions of tasteless food. The Empanadas were bland. The waffle is served two to a plate. The plate-size, double stacked waffle was heavy. I ate 75% of one waffle and started to feel like a brick was forming in my stomach. The waffle did have cinnamon, but the heavy nature of the dish made me it feels like an anchor more than a treat. The Greek fries came with a very gross imitation feta. The vegan feta at Jewel is much better. My sister complained the seitan tasted fresh out of the plastic and the "sausage" was dry. Overall, cute concept but it is this kinda place that makes omnivores skeptical of a non-meat/dairy future. 5 dishes cost about $80.
