    $$$$. Whole lechon chicken $15 & 3 bbq sticks $9.
    Mina L.

You know that awful feeling when you've overpaid or felt like you wasted your money? That's how I felt when I got home and looked at what I bought. - $15 whole lechon chicken. It was small and dry. - $9 for 3 small bbq sticks. I really do try to patronize Filipino restaurants, but I can't believe how expensive the two items I bought were.

I have heard thru the grapevine that this place serve good Filipino food. Since I live near the area, I went in to check it out. I tried their Lechon Kawali. I find it pricey and portion isn't adequate. What enticed me to come back is the variety flavors of Hopia. They are addictive. I joined the Five star app too, so I get a free Halo - halo on my birthday.

    Chicken Arroz Caldo

Didn't know this spot even existed till my bf got sick and wanted some Chicken Arroz Caldo so we decided to drive out. Parking isn't too bad but boy is this place tiny! Literally walked in and the bar is just a few inches away from you. Super cramped but they have everything pretty organized. I noticed one guy at the register taking orders, ringing people out, and also packing orders! Seemed like a 1 man restaurant till you notice other workers walking in and out of the back/kitchen to place pick up orders up front. I got in line, only maybe 2-3 in front of me and it went by fast. An older lady came from the back and took my order. I finally got to the cashier, ordered some other items and told him that I told the other lady about my Arroz Caldo order. He went to the back to talk to her and see if it was ready and he told her that I had called in for the order which I did not. The lady behind me chuckled, as did I. No big deal! He was very nice and handled it fine. Didn't mess it up or anything, just a bit of miscommunication. Waited a few min and got my order and drove home. The Arroz Caldo was great! Super delicious. The crispy sisig however was just okay in my opinion. I wish there was some kind of sauce that came with it other than plain rice and not much to the sisig. Overall it's not a bad spot but I think I'd only come here for the Arroz Caldo. IG: @ammysalamii

They've downsized the restaurant but it's still Hopia like jt and Kalesa in the same space but only the Hopia is already pre-made. The entrees are made to order and hasn't been turo turo for sometime. We went there around 11:30am and wanted to order the whole chicken they said they only had a half left. They just opened and already ran out of chicken. The lechon Kawali is tasty and crunchy not too oily and the garlic rice always hits the spot. The cebuchon was rather dry though. I love their palabok too. Since everything is made to order food does take awhile but it's good and hits the spot when craving Filipino food and I'm too lazy to cook.

I was craving some authentic Filipino food that reminded me of home. This place definitely did not disappoint! The portions are great and everything was delicious. I ordered thru Doordash and the food came warm and looked amazing! The cebuchon was crispy and juicy, the garlic rice hits the spot and my bf got the spam silog. The fresh coconut juice is very tasty and fresh! I definitely recommend and will surely comeback here again :)

"Sweet and sour sauce" that was just banana ketchup ‍
    Hanna A.

This place is a joke lol. We ordered sweet and sour fish in which the sauce was in a separate container so we didn't bother checking it before we left. I even asked for extra sauce because it didn't look enough. So when we got home and opened the sauce, it was all banana ketchup haha. The breaded fish were so salty too. We also ordered menudo and it was bad. The potatoes were raw and it was just not good. Giving this place 1 star for their cebuchon because it was good and that was all we ate for Christmas eve. Such a let down.

You can never go wrong with Kalesa's food variety. They cook it fresh for you and it really good. Their Ube Hopia, Baboy, Guava with Cream cheese is so good. And for for since today is Ash Wednesday we ordered sweet and sour fish and bangus sisig for lunch, both for $14.99 each. It was really DELISH !!! Customer Service is great too!

    Tapsilog

This isn't your typical Filipino restaurant with the street-style set-up, or "turo turo" where you point at the ready-made food and they pack it up for you. All food is prepped in the back, so in that light I wouldn't actually consider this a fast-service/ fast-casual Filipino restaurant. The prices for most entrees fall under $10, but I've gotten combination plates with two items for cheaper, most definitely. I did like their "All Day Breakfast" option because who doesn't crave -silog dishes during other parts of the day? We did go in during an appropriate time around 10am though and I ordered the *Tapsilog* for $8.99. Their breakfast items include two scoops of rice, 2 eggs, tomato, and atchara (a pickled papaya). I honestly didn't see any tomato with my beef, but I didn't know at the time that my dish should have included it. The beef was plentiful and not too chewy, but it wasn't marinated at all. The atchara on the side helped to give it a little vinegary kick though. Garlic rice was offered in this dish versus regular and the egg was oozy and hearty. I'm sure most people would argue that they could finish this easily in one sitting; the portions are smaller than a typical "turo turo" style of restaurant's offerings. However, if you're having a normal meal and not engorging yourself, then one can easily save half of this meal for later (as I did). If you're looking for a proper sit down meal, this restaurant isn't a bad choice for that, but do not expect the extremely large portions here.

Food is great, paid over $60 for 6 items . Not a fan with the portion size, too small for high price items. Hopia ube and cheese pandesal was the best! My halo halo contained an ant inside my cup ‍. Cover your sweet condiments so ants don't get to it. Matter of fact call a pest control and have that place evaluated.

I was craving a sisig plate and bibingka...so where did I go? Kalesa Grill of course! Just thinking of the crisp sisig and onions makes your mouth water. Customer service always on point. Thank you Kalesa Grill. Also a tip: if anyone wants Hopia you should pre order ahead of time because they run out fast. I've noticed a few times customers try to do a "quick pick up" towards the end of the day but are very limited since hopia goes fast. You can also try their other store in Granada Hills - Hopia Like It.

My proof, that I was in, and spent over $90
    Patrick G.

I went in today with my wife and two children to buy some lechon and other items. I could not believe how rudely we were treated. Especially by the older woman that was behind the counter. I've included a pic of my receipt. I spent over $90 and expected to be treated with curtesy. Instead the old woman acted as if she did not like us because we are not from the Philippines.

fresh cantaloupe juice brings back the best kind of nostalgia

Was out in the SFV for work and needed a quick bite before commuting back home. This store is quite small, but their food makes a large statement. I'm used to homecooked filipino meals and filipino restaurants don't usually do it for me; however, this was the first time I feel like coming back. It's unfortunate that they don't have a location in my area. I got the pork belly plate, some hopia for the family, and fresh melon juice--all of which I can highly recommend. this is a filipino restaurant i will be coming back to whenever im in the area.

The kind of spot where you walk in and immediately think, Yep... this is where you bring someone you're trying to impress. The ambience hits that perfect balance of modern, moody, and stylish, a little sexy, a little artsy, and fully date‑night certified. Service was on point the entire night, for my experience, maybe cause they know I was was going to tip very heavily. Ha ha ha. Which ai did by the way! Staff was attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being pretentious. The team here knows the menu inside and out, and they guide you like they're curating an experience rather than just taking an order. Drinks topped off, plates cleared smoothly, pacing perfect. High‑end feel without the high‑end attitude. Let's talk about the food. Filipino Fusion Done With Swagger Ribeye Salpicao, This dish is straight-up dangerous. Tender ribeye cubes seared with garlicky, buttery goodness, the kind of salpicao that makes you rethink every bite you have. Rich, savory, and addicting. If you don't guard your plate, someone at the table will steal a piece. "Because I know I would!" Rockfish Pritong, it was crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and seasoned like someone's Filipino auntie whispered the secrets of life into the batter. Bright, punchy flavors with that perfect crunch. Definitely a sleeper hit. Crispy Duck Pancit, This one is wild, pancit with a crispy duck twist that somehow feels both comforting and elevated. The noodles soak up all that savory duck richness, and the crispy skin on top. Wow, a moment of silence for how good that bite is. Papaya Salad, so fresh, bright, and refreshing. A perfect palate reset between the heavier dishes. Crunchy, citrusy, and balanced, the kind of salad that actually earns its spot on the table. Grilled Eggplant Salad, smoky, silky eggplant with a char that tastes like it came straight off a backyard grill in Manila. Light but flavorful, and a great contrast to the richer plates. Pasta Palabok, a true Filipino classic reimagined. Creamy, savory palabok sauce wrapped around pasta instead of noodles, bold move, but it works. The textures are luxurious, and the flavors stay true to the original. Tare Tare Tamale, definitely one of the most creative dishes of the night. A fusion tamale with tare flavors that hit sweet, salty, and umami all at once. Soft masa, rich filling, and a flavor combo that makes you pause mid‑bite. "Mmmm hmmm!" Hamachi, so clean, fresh, and beautifully plated. The kind of hamachi that melts instantly and makes you feel fancy even if you're wearing sneakers. Of course I had my dress shoes on. It has bright citrus notes and just the right amount of heat. Sampa nails the high‑end, artsy vibe without feeling stiff. Trendy lighting, modern décor, and a soundtrack that keeps the energy fun. Perfect for date night, anniversaries, or when you want to look like you know the cool spots in LA. Sampa is Filipino fusion with confidence, bold flavors, gorgeous plating, and an atmosphere that elevates the whole night. If you're trying to impress your significant other, celebrate something special, or just treat yourself to a killer meal in the Arts District, this place delivers. Nestled in the sauce were vibrant, perfectly cooked vegetables: tender bok choy, slightly charred green beans, and slices of eggplant that had soaked up all the savory depth of the stew. At the heart of the dish lay generous chunks of beef -- fork-tender, deeply flavored, with just enough fat to melt into the sauce and give it that rich, silky mouthfeel Kare Kare is known for. Sprinkled over the top were crunchy bits, adding a satisfying contrast to every spoonful. Of course, the small side of bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) was essential -- a modest dollop transformed each bite, balancing the sweetness and creaminess of the peanut sauce with a punch of briny intensity. Paired with steaming garlic rice, every scoop felt like the perfect blend of textures and flavors, a true homage to the Filipino classic. Eating Spoon & Pork's Kare Kare felt both nostalgic and elevated -- the heart and soul of a traditional comfort food presented with an eye for freshness and balance. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down, savor each bite, and immediately start planning your next visit.

4.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys - I'm still catching up on my reviews and am kicking myself for failing to write this before Spoon & Pork permanently shut its doors. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.
