I reserved a table for 2 @ 1pm, and was seated immediately upon arrival. Our server was quick and thorough. This was my first time, so I had no idea what to expect and keep in mind I don't usually like curry dishes. I ordered Lobster Bisque to start, and I definitely could taste the Indian flare. It was delicious, however the entire time I was eating it I was wondering where the lobster was. The lobsters sits at the center underneath the rice. For my main dish, I took the suggestion of the waitress and ordered the Halibut spicy. The Halibut portion was huge! It was fresh and flaky and the curry brings a whole new life to my favorite fish. First, let me say, I am not a South Asian and have never been to that region of the county, so my only frame of reference is my own American taste buds. I understand, from other reviews, that the food may not be authentic, but you have to consider the customer base. It's similar to Europeans who have jumped on the Soul Food wagon who serve food with no soul, but their customer base rave about it. I get it. My non-South Asian taste buds says "incredible!" My daughter and I have visited in the past, but we wanted to try new dishes. First... The lamb tacos...very tender and well seasoned. Ample meat and fillings. Crispy Potatoes...crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The slightly spicy ketchup was a pleasant and tasty surprise. Harissa Chicken...succulent and flavorful! Nothing more to add. Garlic Naan...garlicky, buttery, with the perfect texture. Not burnt either. Beet & Goat Cheese Salad...this was actually my favorite. I could eat this every day! The salad greens were fresh, all of the topping meshed well and added loads of texture...candied pecans, purple and golden beets, raisins, creamy goat cheese (yes!) and lightly dressed with a mango chutney salad dressing. Two downsides. 1. The hostess. Very dry and uninviting personality. However, our server Rainey MORE that made up for that. She was fun, engaging and offered really great Mock-tail drink suggestions (I don't drink alcohol). She made our experience a wonderful one. I know she's a new staff member, but deserves a raise. 2. Kama no longer serves Yama Chaat. What?!? We drove all the way from Oak Park to experience this item again. Talk about disappointed! Please update your online menu to reflect the change. Kama bistro is an upscale restaurant located in downtown the bustling LaGrange downtown area. The ambiance here is very nice, especially for an Indian restaurant. It can get crowded so be aware if you're looking to visit with a big group here. The menu has some unique items with a Western India bent (Goan flavors) to the menu. I will say the flavors tend to be a little watered down/less spicy and less authentic, but the food here is high quality. It is definitely a little pricier than the average Indian restaurant but worth it in my opinion- definitely try it if you're in the area! read more

We have enjoyed the food from Kama about 8 times. We have dined in and ordered to be delivered. We have never been disappointed! The food is fresh and delicious. It is a little pricy, but we always get another meal from the leftovers, so really, the price is reasonable. We love the tikka masala and vindaloo, samosas and naan. I had a mango martini when dining at the restaurant that was really delicious! The restaurant has great atmosphere and is a very nice vibe. The food does not suffer when you get delivery. The food and drinks were nothing short of fantastic, the service was superb, and the atmosphere was cozy, clean and not overwhelmingly loud despite the restaurant being quite busy. If you're a big fan of spicy, try ordering the vindaloo kama kaze. Hot enough to make you sweat while still being delicious and edible. I'd also recommend ordering a hot tea after the meal. Our waitress recommended a blend of the rooibos "Love" tea and the herbal "Temple of Heaven" tea and it was just lovely. This place is simply a must if you're a fan of Indian food. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Just ate here for our 2nd time. Our first time was a while back (pre-pandemic) with a larger group, about 20 or so people, all vegan and the staff was very helpful with making sure our food was all dietary appropriate. My husband and I were here again wanting a nice date night out the night before I was having a surgery and he had a taste for Indian food. We live about 45 minutes away but remembered the ambiance was nicer than our usual carry-out place near home. We made a reservation and they checked out vaccine cards when we arrived before seating us. We sat at a table on the far wall across from the entrance, it was a very cold evening, only a few degrees above zero and we would feel the cold coming in anytime someone opened and closed the doors. It was a Thursday evening so not too busy and this didn't ruin the evening by making us freezing. We ordered samosas to start, and then shared a variety of other dishes. Roganjosh with vegetables, Aloo Gabi, Okra do Piazza, Dal Makhani, Roti, and Paratha. We explained to the server we're vegan and she unfortunately didn't seen to understand what this meant; she suggested some dishes with cheese and we said we do not eat dairy and then she suggested some of the fish dishes. Fortunately from our previous time here we had a good idea of what dishes were vegan or able to be vegan. The chef came out when our food was brought out and asked if everything was ok, and asked if we were vegan which he could probably tell from our order. We spoke for a minute about the sauces served with the samosas and he brought us out some extra tamarind for the table and also to take home because it was clear we had ordered enough for leftovers. Everything was delicious, full of flavor, and filling. Only the Okra I found to be very salty but I don't like a lot of salt. My husband does like a lot of salt and said he expected me to not like the Okra after he tried it first. He said it was a little salty even for him but he liked it enough and ate it all but a small portion from when I tasted it. We have some friends who live nearby who mentioned they've gotten carryout from here a few times and the portions are smaller than when they dine-in. We found this information helpful and don't expect to order carry-out from here since it is not close to home anyway. We'll be back to try some of the other dishes we haven't yet soon! read more

Came here on a Saturday night. It was happening. Very nice ambiance, feels modern and clean. Feels upscale. Lots of tables, and it looks like they made an additional expansion to the place. Service was good but beware, they punch things in into their iPads right as you say them and sometimes the order already goes through so might be hard to change even if the waiter has not yet finished taking your order! The food is delicious. Like amazingly delicious. Even the kids loved it and they never eat Indian. Every dish had distinct flavors, right punch of spice, and the portions were huge. We ordered a paneer vindaloo, a chicken tikka masala and a chicken biryani which was not on the menu. See pics. Very flavorful dishes. The dessert was a bread pudding. That too was excellent. You MUST check this spot out! I definitely wish we were closer (drove just over an hour and don't regret it one bit!). It is located right downtown & if you aren't familiar with the area, it is such a cute area with a lot to explore. Our server was absolutely fantastic. I can't say we are pros at ordering off a menu like this, so she was wonderful in helping us decide how much to get (we had plenty!). Loved the chicken grill. It comes with a small side of sauce, but that tomato cashew sauce was the winner and we were so happy she recommended adding an 8oz sauce. We added jasmine rice & tried the regular + garlic naan. For us, we will get the regular for this meal next time just because the meal already has such great flavor. You MUST try a cocktail...or if it's Thursday...3! All 3 from this flight were incredibly unique (to me at least) and some of my favorite cocktails I have ever tried. Such unique and well-balanced flavors. Will absolutely be returning! read more

Came here for a work event where the food was ever flowing and it definitely delivered taste, flavor profiles and comfort-wise. Upon arrival, I started off with a Tamarind based cocktail, called Kama-Rita (4/5) which was sweet, sour and mildly savory which I thoroughly enjoyed. Next, during the first half of the event, the servers brought trays after trays of various appetizers: Tandoori Lamb Chops (5/5), Lamb Tacos (3.5/5), Chicken Tikka (5/5), Bruschetta (4/5) For mains, we were served: Lamb Vindaloo (4/5), Chicken Tikka Masala (4/5), Paneer Tikka Masala (5/5) and Dal Makhani (3.5/5), Pappad Platter and this other Cauliflower dish. Accompanying the mains we had naan (4/5) and roti (3.5/5). To top it all off, for desserts there were cauldrons of Ras Malai (5/5) and Gulab Jamun (5/5). read more

The food was great! We ordered the chicken tikka masala, medium spice. It was quite hot for medium. But that was fine, since we like spicy food. We also ordered lamb with the peppered masala. Which was also great. The service was excellent! The only reason for 4 stars, rather than 5 stars, was the music. It was too hip hoppy, with some rap. This might be typical for modern Indian restaurants. We would have preferred traditional Indian music, or other soft dining music. The music can really affect the ambiance. Since the food was great, we would return. But will likely do take out. read more

I personally have only tried Indian food once before (and loved it). I've been trying to get my wife to try it for years but she's a fairly picky eater and occasionally warms up to the idea but then changes her mind and plays it safe with Italian. So Saturday night she told me to pick a dinner spot but i wouldn't tell her where we were going until we were about to leave. As she browsed the menu the only thing she knew was the ribeye so that's what she was going to order. I'm pretty adventurous so i will try anything. I had a few questions for the waitress but she was wearing a pretty thick mask and i was growing tired of asking her to repeat herself so i just smiled and nodded politely when she spoke. I honestly had no idea what she was saying. I'm not knocking her for wearing the mask, if that's your thing go for it but when you realize the customer can't understand you please go get someone without a mask. The reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is the mask issue and she never came back to see if we needed more drinks. We had to flag her down. It was later in the evening and was not particularly busy at this point of the night. I said the heck with it and just ordered stuff that looked good in the Yelp pictures lol. We started with the potato stuffed Naan, beet and goat cheese salad and chicken malai. For our main course we had the ribeye, Chicken Makhani / Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi, Eggplant Bharta and Garlic Naan. The food was beyond delicious. My picky eater only ate about half of her steak and instead was reaching her fork across the table eating what i ordered. The gentleman that brought the food from the kitchen to the table was awesome. I wish i asked his name so he could get props from his boss. He had a smile on his face and as he set each dish on the table he gave you a quick run down of what it was and the ingredients of the dish. He answered all of our questions. You can tell this guy loves his job and it shows. He deserves 10 stars. We are already making plans with friends to return. read more

Date night was a success! We ordered lots of dishes & shared them all (at dinner & lots of left overs). Service was perfect, prompt, and extra friendly. Great recommendations & a few chuckles with the server. Also extra attention to make our cocktails perfect for us. The ambiance was really perfect for a peaceful, winter night. Excellent lighting, good music that was not intrusive, but added to ambiance. Lots of happy patrons enjoying their meals. Kama Bistro is a quiet spot in downtown Lagrange with great food and excellent flavors. The goan mussels are excellent. Lobster bisque soup is a must. The tandoori lamb chops are cooked beautifully. The lamb shank was good but not my favorite. The vindaloo chicken was my absolute favorite the pepper and heat balance was perfect for me. Pineapple martini was excellent as well as the whiskeys. I've been here multiple times and the atmosphere is lovely. Its welcoming and in the summer the windows are open for a nice breeze. Parking is street parking and free. Lot less than a block away. After dinner you can even take a stroll if you like to get ice cream near by. read more

We've gone here many times and although the food tasted great last night, the kitchen timing was horrendous and made for a very awkward dinner. Side dishes were served first. After at least 5 minutes the first (of 4) entrees came. 10 minutes later 2 more entrees. By now, the side dishes were stone cold. 15 minutes later the 4th entree was served. By that time, three of us were Done Eating! It was a fiasco. Our server was apologetic and did offer us a free round of cocktails. On this Thursday night, it was busy but not packed. Tables around us got their food at the same time . It was annoying and not what you expect when you're paying $270 (plus tip) for a meal. We left a generous tip because we believed it was not the servers fault. For one entree to be late to a table is not shocking. It happens. But this was total negligence. read more

Went to with a group of 5 last night and we are lovers of Indian food. Unfortunately this was not the best Indian dining experience, aesthetically it was a beautiful place the staff was extremely friendly. We started out for drinks they have a really nice selection and different choices I had a ginger beer. Then we ordered appetizers it was $7 for two samosas that were just okay I ordered lamb tacos that I never received the barbecue sweet potato fries were good but my favorite was the steak fries which were delicious and very spicy. Because of the pricing of the food and the appetizers were okay we were kind of hesitant on the main course so I ordered the buttered Cornish hens. Now butter chicken is my absolute go to no matter what Indian restaurant I dine at. I typically only order butter chicken that is my standard. I was excited to try it, unfortunately when I did, it was not as exciting as it read on the menu. The sauce was missing some flavor and it needed at a bit more salt and it was extremely more spicy than I've experienced butter chicken before. My friend who I typically dying at any restaurants with order the vegetable vindaloo and she could barely eat it because it was that spicy and it took away from any other flavor in the dish. Overall we like the Nutella naan, the garlic naan was good, great presentation, the drinks are tasty, the service is awesome but the food was underwhelming for me. To me it seems like they tried to make Indian Cuisine extremely hippie and over pretentious. I felt like I was at this want to be hip bar in downtown Chicago instead of an authentic Indian restaurant dining on their cuisine. read more

Food is not bad, looks much better than it tastes. Service: Pretty much non existent. My order was taken, dropped off by a runner and the waitress didn't check on me, until I was pretty much done with my meal. I asked what the spice levels were and was told: Mild, Med and Hot. Typically I hear more than three options, but ok. She was busy playing around the bar area and otherwise "busy". Not sure how many tables she had, but didn't seem that she was busy taking care of whatever tables she had. I also found it odd that in an Indian restaurant, I did not see any actual Indian servers? Food: Looked excellent, on visual it was 5 stars, taste was more of a 2/3. The chicken was a bit tough, but the eggplant was very good. Spice level for medium, was more on the hot side, but I would rather have that, than no spice/kick. The garlic naan was cold and I could not taste any garlic. Served only one as well and it was probably the worst part of the meal. Overall: The menu is somewhat limited and has some odd items one would typically not see in an Indian restaurant: maybe it's some off attempt at "Fusion". Parking is a bit of a challenge on the Main Street, but there is general parking, with some walking involved. Overall I had high hope based on reviews, but came away disappointed. Seems like a popular lively place for many, but for traditional good Indian food; this is not the place. read more
