As a first time home buyer, immediately after their install, I would have given them a 3 or a 4 star rating not knowing any better. 2 1/2 years later I realize I received poor workmanship and service from the get go. They advised my floors might need flattening after the carpet was tore up and that would cost extra. I was price conscious but not once did they say "we strongly recommend flattening your floors and will not stand by our work unless you pay for this extra, but necessary work". They nickel and dimed me to the extent they charged me an elevator access fee. My building doesn't charge for elevator use?! After install the floor popped in many places when you walked, had a few scratches, a custom built closet door was unable to be put back up, the concrete had crumbled and and was never repaired correctly, my washer would not work because the lid was bent while moving it (charged $125 to move and break it) and coincidentally my toilet leaked 6 weeks later into the apartment below. Fast forward 18 months. Kitchen flooring is coming apart, is not waterproof, starting to warp and they will not return calls or emails. DO NOT risk it. They are not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. Go thru Home Depot or Lowe's. Even if they wind up contracting to Kama'aina Flooring, they will stand by your satisfaction. When I asked them to mask up, they said it's their "policy" to not wear masks because they can't breathe and the masks make them "sweaty" (so, I guess they only use masks as chin-warmers??). I told them to mask up, I have kids in my house (and it's MY HOUSE; and there's A PANDEMIC GOING ON; and over 500,000 Americans are dead...). They said they expect a property to be vacated when they install flooring. Um........ this is MY HOUSE. I have stuff here. I have a right to protect my stuff while strangers perform work in my house. I ordered my vinyl flooring for Home Depot and they sent Kamaaina Flooring to give me an estimate on doing the installation and materials which came to $12,000. About half for materials which included 60 bags of levelling mix. The job was not done correctly and I had made it cleat to the Home Depot representative and to Natasha the owner of Kamaaina Flooring what I wanted. Daniel came out and said he had to redo half the floor and tried to salvage as many planks he could to reuse. I noticed some low spots when the planks did not fit flush. Daniel came back and said they would go down after the vapor barrier was pressed down, and pounded them down with a rubber mallet. A few months later I took pictures and went to Home Depot. Their rep and Natasha came out to look at the floor and she said that the floor was level and I had no reason to complain. I said I should at least get back something for the unused material that had to be use for the redo. They agreed to give me $700 back if I signed a waiver against future claims. NO NOT DO THAT I have to look at the floor daily since it is right at my entry way. I have cover some other bad spots with area rugs. If you go to Home Depot get another installer. read more

They took their time to prep the subfloor and even corrected an uneven subfloor before the installation proceeded. A crew of 4, including Trent, did the work over the course of two days. They took time to understand our requirements (including the subfloor leveling) and paid attention to details. This was apparent from the laying out of the pad to the clean up afterwards. We found Kama'aina Flooring through Home Depot as that was where we were sourcing our materials. Natasha surveyed our residence, and was able to complete the measurements, and cuts required to perform our install. From the get go, she was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable in her craft. You really get the local home style care vibes from her, and she shows she genuinely cares about her clients. After resubmitting the measurements to Home Depot, we picked up our carpet. We were needing a quick scheduling turnaround as the installation of our carpet was paramount to our ability to start furnishing our home, and living in our bedrooms. Natasha was extremely responsive in trying to get this coordinated within our timeline. A FEW DAYS go by after picking up the carpet, and Natasha found an issue with the carpet we had purchased.. She immediately asked if Home Depot explained the pros and cons of the different grades of carpet. Simply: They did not. We had a few other issues with this particular transaction, and Natasha spear-headed the communication with Home Depot and put me in touch with her primary point of contact that's always helpful, COS John. We originally used Kama'aina flooring because the original sub-contractor that Home Depot sent to us did not install our floors correctly about a year and a half ago. After multiple times of trying to fix it, we told Home Depot that we wanted a different sub-contractor, so they sent us Kama'aina Flooring and we couldn't be happier! We had engineered hard wood flooring installed on about 800-1,000 sqft, to inclue two flights of stairs and baseboards and Kama'aina flooring came in, fixed all of the previous mistakes, put the right material on the stairs (the original contractor used nails and caulk on the bullnoses...) and even replaced some of the planks that our puppy had managed to damage. Because of that GREAT experience, we plan on having them install additional hard wood, tile and carpet throughout our house and we wouldn't use anybody else. They are incredibly busy for a reason...Because they are simpy the best on the island at what they do. The extra time it takes them to get back to a customer is worth the wait because it is better to have the installation done the first time then have to have them come out and fix somebody else's mistakes. read more

We had the WORST experience and unsatisfactory customer service from Kamaaina Flooring!! We purchased flooring supplies with Home Depot and thus went with their flooring vendor, Kamaaina Flooring, to renovate our flooring in our condo. We fully renovated our condo so timing of each vendor renovation was important to meet our move in date. First of all, the estimate for the labor was way over what we had expected. The work was not completed on time leaving us cleaning up our entire condo covered with dust from the materials they cut until midnight as we were scheduled to move in the next day. We had to schedule another day for the workers to complete the job (which still did not get completed) and again, we had to clean up the dust. We had to have someone else finish installing the moldings. We also had to install our new toilet on our own ($400 charge), re-install the line for our washer ($275 charge) and vent for our dryer ($50 charge). The worst was Natasha tried to charge us another $400 for street paid parking which was already charged on our invoice AND they were able to park free in our loading zone the entire time. We notified Natasha on their unfinished work and requested to at least be refunded for the toilet and parking fees. She blamed others saying the workers were not able to access the elevator when they arrived on the first day (they arrived late!) which put them back a day. Natasha agreed to ONLY refund us $250. It's been almost 5 1/2 months and although we contacted her several times with her responding she would follow-up with her office, we have NOT received a refund. We contacted her again the other day and now she is saying we need to request the refund with Home Depot!!! At the end of the day, the work was NOT finished even with an extra day and they over charged us for cost/work that was not done. Natasha has provided us with unsatisfactory customer service and basically ripped us off! This is Hawaii. You just don't treat others this way. I purchased some lovely laminates from Home Depot in May and decided to have them install it for us. I have used Home depot to install flooring in a few of our other homes on the mainland. Unfortunately Kamaaina Flooring was one of the contractors that Home Depot use here in Hawaii. Kamaaina Flooring came to my apartment, measured and scheduled the start date with me. On the first installation attempt, two guys from Kamaaina Flooring came in, they poured leveler on a hump in my guest room, completed the installation in one day and at the end of the day told me to sign a paper stating they had completed the job. Upon walking through the apartment my husband and I realized that the floors were wobbly, there was a massive hump in my guest bedroom from the leveler they had poured and the trims were falling off the wall. We called Kamaaina and Tasha said she would come take a look. When she came out she realized how horrible the flooring was and told me that she would have them rip it up and I would also have to purchase more 'leveler' because my floors were uneven. I was hesitant at first but decided to purchase the 'leveler'. A few days later they came back ripped up the floors and poured the leveler and came back another day to relay the floors. After laying the floors a second time, we walked through again and still, there was a hump in my guest room at the entrance to the room and several wobbly areas in my living room and bedroom. I called Tasha again and she sent her husband out to check the floors which he claimed was "tight" and they redid the "tight" areas (attempt number 3). The floors were still wobbly. I later realized that Kamaaina was sub contacting with some guy called Ed and basically his guys were horrible. I was so frustrated at this point that I went to Home Depot to complain and they were unaware that Kamaaina was subcontracting. I wanted to write this review because I do not want anyone to have the same issues I had with this company. If you get them through Home Depot, tell them you want someone else. read more

Based on my experience, I would give zero stars if I could. Natasha and her partner came to my furnished home in December 2020. Nine months later, I have signed a settlement (compensation for my troubles) with Home Depot just to get rid of them. It took 3 months to receive a quote and 2 months after the carpet came in for someone to contact me (only after I complained). We finally set an appointment only for them to cancel the night before because the installer had COVID. I asked to reschedule, sent a follow up email to confirm, I received no answer. That morning, I was woken up to pounding and yelling from my front yard. They were at my house with no appointment. A day into the install, I realized the installer she sent was the one who had COVID. He was in my house, standing 3 feet away from my family with no mask on and happily discussing his current symptoms he was still having. While putting my furniture back, it was noted there were several places the carpet was cut short and/or not tucked properly along with lumps and bumps. The foot board on my bed and box spring were also broken. The management team came to visit and Natasha said my home was unfurnished at the time of measuring so they could not be responsible for the bed. Not only did she lie, I provided the manager with an email I wrote a month prior to install reminding Natasha the home is furnished and asked what I needed to do to get ready for her visit. The carpet was installed July 12. I immediately notified Home Depot I was not happy. It took 2 weeks for the group to come out and see why. During the visit, Natasha herself agreed with the issues I wrote about and said she personally would be here to fix the problem. I requested the work be done by August 21 (5 weeks after install) as my home was being painted after that and I didn't want any additional workers here. No matter what days I requested, they could never be accommodated. I was always told they had other work on their calendar and I was scheduled at the end of the line. I was never a priority even having waited 9 months. On September 6, we had a 9 am appointment and Natasha was supposed to be here. An installer arrived at 930 am and no Natasha. For this visit, I told Home Depot I would forgo the proper stretching and tucking of the rest of the house to just get my steps (that Natasha pulled apart during her visit) done along with a new baseboard (installed with a staple in it) replaced. The installer told me he was only told to stretch the steps, nothing else. I want these people out of my house! Nine months and a crappy job. Thanks for taking my hard earned money and not doing a good job. How dare you treat people like this. I have requested a partial installation refund. I will have to pay someone else for their time and materials to properly fix my steps. read more

It took them forever to make the appointment to install the carpet, then they installed 2 different colors so they had to re-install. They locked the keys in the unit so they had to grab our personal set. It took me over 3 weeks to get the keys back from these people and they didn't even drop them off. The worker from Home Depot that I was working with personally got the keys and dropped them off himself. We finally had a showing and the agent found beer in the refrigerator and cheerios all over the counter and the sinks are dirty so now we have to hire another cleaner to re clean the unit! Our experience with Kamaaina Flooring was an absolute nightmare. We paid the company in cash, 100% upfront and expected quality work, but received absolute hack work. After the floors were leveled (this was done appropriately), the installers first began installing the vinyl in the incorrect direction, then reinstalled crooked the second time. The third round went fine and we were happy with the floors. However, the finish work was HORRENDOUS. The young men who removed our baseboards to be reinstalled greatly damaged our baseboards and drywall (see photos). Then, they reinstalled the damaged baseboards with no attempt to repair. They were paid to install baseboards in our closets that did not have baseboards and did an absolute amateur job with huge corner gaps. The transitions were not cut to the doors, and our door jambs were ruined by being massively undercut. Then, they tried to install raw pine quarter rounds instead of using the matching vinyl quarter rounds that were specified. The workers were upset that they had to redo the vinyl installation multiple times, so they rushed the finish work and destroyed our place in the process. All communications with the owner (Natasha) were rude and unprofessional, and she was constantly defensive of the work done. At the end of the project, after much discussion, I only received $600 back out of $10k. To be fair, Natasha offered to have her crew come back and fix the work but I decided to pay a proper contractor to fix Kamaaina's hack work. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! read more

I ordered thru Home Depot and Kama'aina came out and did amazing work!! 3 guys on the crew that worked hard to lay vinyl flooring that is different widths in 2 living rooms, kitchen, pantry, hall, closet, half bath, laundry room, another closet and the stairs!! They even put together my new toilet when they reinstalled it and helped me move back my fridge with great care we didn't scrape the new floors!! Do not hire these people!!! First off Natasha took one month to measure the bottom floor of my BRAND NEW HOME! The day they started, one of the guys told me my floor was uneven and I needed leveler to even it out, so they spent the first day waiting around for the work order from Home Depot (who by the way I hold partially responsible for sending these people my way after they've already recieved numerous complaints about this company). On the second day, they started the floor, then at 2pm one the of two guys that were working in my home decides he's "sick" and goes home. So they floors are left undone. Day three, they have a 19 yr old boy working in my kitchen and 4 hrs after he arrived they finall send over 3 more guys. Floors get done, they tell me they can't put back my toilet and leave my fridge in the living room, which they did because they scratched my floors while moving it. Day 4, they come back in be morning and I show them all the mistakes. They tell me they wanna rip up all the flooring and replace it with better ones. Ok! So, I order new flooring (paid for by Home Depot). They say the come to put the new flooring NATASHA calls me to tell me they coming at 9am.....well they didn't show up until 12pm!!! So when they arrived with my new flooring, I told them to drop it in the living room and they can leave!!! This company is SHIT! Worst experience ever, never in my life I have ever dealt with this shit! And I work for Costco and our priority is to give great service, so to experience this just blows my mind and by a local company at that!!! WORST SERVICE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!!! read more

Home Depot recommended this company and that is a mistake. I scheduled a flooring measurement, I think the ladies name was Natasha (Owner) but she showed up 2hrs late. When she did arrive she bragged about all the people she fired, which completely rubbed me the wrong way. I knew right then she was not a people's person and I immediately felt like she was selfish and lacked professionalism. Once complete she gave a rough estimated and told me about leveling should it be required. I was told if she needed to level, it would cost 2K. What??? When I got the final estimate from Home Depot, in the notes section she said several uneven surfaces where visible and required leveling, none of that was ever pointed out to me when we were conducting the measurement. How can you tell what needs to leveled with carpet down? I forwarded that quote to another flooring company on Yelp with better reviews and they were in shock at the price. Needless to say I hired a reputable company with a lower price and informed Home Depot they should not be conducting business with a company like this. By the way, my floor did not need leveling. I am glad I read the reviews and experienced what I did from that measurement because I would be very unhappy. read more

The Home Depot works with Kamaaina Flooring to install laminate since Home Depot doesn't have in-house installers. An appointment was made with Kamaaina Flooring for them to come out to a place that my husband and I recently bought. They did measurements for the entire unit and told us they would send the measurements to Home Depot and then we'd get a call in 2-3 days from Home Depot. Weeks pass by and nothing happened! Not sure whose fault it was but there's definitely lack of communication and irresponsibility between these two partners. Never again!! read more

I contacted Kamaaina flooring before Thanksgiving and spoke the daughter Natasha. She mentioned she was in Reno and they would get back to me upon their return in a few days. NO RESPONSE after 2 weeks. So I call back and speak to the father, Thomas. Explain what I need and he tells me to send him an e-mail. I do, in detail. He calls me and schedules an appointment to come and measure and provide me with a quote. He was supposed to look at 2 locations. The first at 0800 and the second at 1000. At 11:00, my daughter in law calls and says no one has shown up yet. I call Thomas and he is clueless. After I mentioned he made the appointment with me, he promises to send someone out ASAP. Someone named Casey comes, measures and was very diligent about what he was doing. Waited 2 weeks for an estimate, NO RESPONSE. I call back....NO RESPONSE. The reason I tried to be patient, is because they are family owned, local business. Trying to support the small guys.
