I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THE SERVICE SUCKED! I reserved for a table of 20 2 weeks in advanced and when i got there they did not have my reservation. I had to stand and wait til everyone arrived to even be seated. Table of 20 for my sons 10th birthday we spent almost 1k between 20 people for 14/20 people to end up with food poisoning INCLUDING a pregnant woman. I called on 1/23 and the manager told me they were busy and the food is good. I called again 1/24 as my 3 year old daughter has not slept and has been throwing up with a fever of 102 or higher.. my 10 year old son with a fever of 101 and higher and all symptoms youd expect from food poison. Another 10 year old my son's best friend went home on 1/22 and pooped himself and threw up. 2 year old and 5 year old nephews stomach ache and diarrhea. 13 & 16 year old headaches and vomiting. All the rest of the adhlts stomach ache , immediate diarrhea, headaches and throwing up. When i called 1/24 they laughed at me told me to take my kids to the drs and I did before they told me to and they will not refund me. They cooked Chicken , salmon , shrimp , steak , scallops, veggies & rice all on the same skillet and not not clean it after each item. They cross contaminated the food. I never been to hibachi so I didnt know what to expect. I will never go back. And I will be filing a Law suit. They will block your number if you call and complain and ask for a refund. I'm shocked the reviews aren't all 5 stars! So I'm sure many of my friends saw my most recent review for another hibachi place here in GA. Well this one deserves the 5 stars I gave. I will not compare the wait times, because it was un-fair, as I just popped up here right at opening times, so we were sat quite fast. I will say, unlike the other hibachi place that I reviewed, this place is CLEAN, and they're social distancing and require masks. They space at least two chairs between each party. I have visited their sister location down near Stonecrest with my sister-in-law. We had their sushi, at the time. But she did tell me that she liked coming to Kampai, because you can still order hibachi w/o the theatrics. My friend/old coworker and I decided to go with the theatrics, because why not. We were 1 of 3 groups sat at our station at the time. It was like all other hibachi places, and had the typical show, spinning the egg, starting a huge fire, the volcano, etc, etc. (My yelp friends must think I'm a prude for not thinking hibachi places are fun LOL). Anyways, onto the food. We were HANGRY. I ordered shrimp + steak, my coworker got chicken + steak. Our meal together was around $60 which was not bad at all! I thought the prices here were really great, and portion was good as always. I did see their sushi selection and it looked scrumptious. One word.... ROACHES! We had a family member in from out of town and she wanted hibachi. Kampai was the closest and looked decent just in driving by. We walked in, the sushi area and bar are right there. The bar was dirty with crumbs and dishes. She really wanted hibachi, so we hung in there. We were seated at a grill along with two other young ladies from a different party. Our guest's "clean" plate had old, dried rice on it. We ordered our drinks, soups and salads. So far...meh. Everyone is sipping their soup, laughing and talking. All of a sudden, the ladies from the other party jump and scream! I look over and see a B.A.C. (Big Ass Cockroach!) Scampering across the floor!!! The young lady said the bug came from the table and was on her arm!!! She swatted it off. OMG!!!! We ALL left immediately. We ended the night at a burger joint...I couldn't find ANY current health inspection scores on this restaurant, but the past scores that I found were all in the low 70's. Requested more veg cuz I don't eat meat but they charge shrimp prices for veggies and rice.. I was told it would be another FIVE DOLLARS to get the veg that I feel I was owed cuz I got stiffed! The veg fried rice likely cost the restaurant $3 total to make... they charged me 12... which is fine, if you give me enough food to get full from like carnivores do... We came for Hibachi, but I didn't want all the loudness/ extra people surrounding us for dinner so we opted for a table just for us. We were still able to order hibachi from the table which made my night. I ordered the delicious shrimp hibachi and my dining partner had lobster/ steak/ shrimp... both came with veggies and fried rice. (Delicious) Our waiter was a cool guy who was excellent At what he does. He had no idea I was there checking out this place for the first time, also I was snapping pics of our food and he never once asked why. Visited the Kampai today for my 7 year olds birthday. We have been to this location several times with out issue. Today after dinning, my entire family of 4 began to have stomach cramping and the urge to use the bathroom. We left the restaurant abruptly to go home only to all be back and forth using the restroom with diarrhea. I called Kampai to inform them that something may have been contaminated, and that my family may be experiencing food poisoning. I was told to prove it and talk with their attorney if I had proof. What sad times we live in. I only was informing him to check and make sure that all was well in their kitchen. Needless to say, we will never return and I hope this can help someone else. The food was super delicious! I got chicken and shrimp from the hibachi menu plus the $6 seating fee which includes soup, salad, grilled veggies and fried rice. Only reason why is not getting 5 stars is cause of the show. It was short and boring. He forgot the entree from someone in my party so she had to wait until last minute for her food. He did not do the onion volcano or any hibachi tricks. It was kinda disappointing but once again the food was delicious. The service was really good for sure. They didn't kick us out when we wanted to see the Miss Universe final even tho it was almost closing time. Also they helped us sing happy birthday to my boyfriend and brought a Japanese hat and singing instruments. Very funny and embarrassing (the point of it all, right?) I hope this review reaches others. This restaurant has disgusting customer handling practices. My $40 may not mean much but everyone's will. THIS RESTAURANT DOES NOT DESERVE THE PATRONAGE OF GWINNETT COUNTY CITIZENS! I have been to this Kampai location many times and ordered the same thing every time. I am pretty familiar with the typical sushi roll that I order and its' quality when it is good/bad. This last visit, however, was the last straw here. Be warned... The CUSTOMER "SERVICE" is TERRIBLE if you ever have an issue. The "manager" Jessica did decide to discount the food. However, what went awry is that she refused to come by our table to discuss the issue and instructed the server to snatch the food away from us by any means b/c she discounted it. The server would not leave the table and hovered as if we were going to steal a PAID for meal.... She continued to hover even after the manager was requested repeatedly and she was assured that we would not leave. She stood by our table so long, as if to prevent us from leaving; as if we could steal a meal that had been paid for. She was even so concerned that the food cost would come out of her paycheck as if she made the nasty food herself! The host, Felipe, that says he too is another "manager" also refused to come by our table to discuss the matter. I even attempted to speak with him and I've never seen someone make a faster bee-line to the back of the restaurant. I sincerely had all intentions of ordering several things this evening and I'm glad I kept my money. Quite frankly, I do not believe this would happen to their Caucasian patrons. I've never been so insulted in ANY restaurant than this and this has not been my first experience with Jessica. My meal was paid for yet they treated me and my companion as if we were thieves. I made a phone call to the restaurant after my visit about my concerns and how their actions were offensive and felt very racist and targeted to what we looked like. Even though the place is a bit expensive, I must say the food is absolutely delicious and the service is very entertaining. The chefs who cook on the Hibachi side know how to put a good show & leave the food just right. Especially rice with Yum Yum sauce! I'm not sure why it's rated pretty low, BUT if you haven't been, it's definitely worth a try. The setting is very nice with no super loud music and has a very nice, soothing setting. Been here a few times so I thought it was time to review. My family of 4 arrive and are quickly greeted and seated on this Saturday night. I was some what surprised and the lack of clean menus. In fact, it bordered line on being yucky. It was if a child had eaten sushi by hand then looked at the menu. I was luckily able to find enough clean area to turn the pages. All four of us orders a different kind of fried rice and it was a very large portion that tasted awesome and allowed for ample leftovers. We each tried a different sushi roll and they all were spot on. The sushi chef was struggling to get out the rolls in a timely and organized manner as all of ours arrived very late in the meal and 1 was almost after everyone else had finished theirs. Like I said above, the food was great and beyond the yucky menu and timing of our rolls everything was as expected. We will continue to rerun but I hope they will pay close attention to some of these shortcomings. read more

I came here after an appointment. I was so hungry and fiening for some sushi. When I walked in, it was so clean and spacious. The atmosphere was warm. The waitress was nice and pleasant. Since ive never been there before, I asked for the menu. She showed me the way to the sushi bar and I comfortably sat down. I opened the menu and my goodness gracious alive! (thats what my grandma say when she is surprised about something.) The prices are outrageously high. I guess it was because of the area, but holy moly. The reason for my shock on the prices, will be explained. I got the volcano roll. The topping (crab) was extra dry. I guess it was because it was left in the oven too long. Heck, I dont know. The size of the roll was super small. The inside of the roll tasted like there was raw , but extra chewy fish inside. I am not a fan of raw fish, unless it is done right. I just cant. Dined at Kampai for my mother in laws birthday..wasn't a huge party. There were a ton of food options to choose from; shrimp, lobster, chicken, steak, sushi rolls, kids menu.. you name it. I actually enjoyed the experience from our Chef and the food. The sushi was delicious and the flavor of the hibachi was on point and not under seasoned. Everything I must say, was cooked to perfection. I cannot say that everyone at the restaurant had the same experience as we did because some of the Chefs were a bit unenthusiastic but, ours was amazing and funny. As far as service goes it sucks that a lot of reviews stated they had to wait and they were unorganized. Surely, I would have to agree that they are a bit understaffed and because of that things can be missed. They accidentally swapped our bill with someone else's but, we were able to settle it at the table without the server so, just make sure to pay attention. I am giving it 4 stars because the ambiance was a bit off. I am use to hibachi being loud, fun, lively, and just an experience and the surrounding tables didn't look like they were receiving that. However, I still think it is great and if they can hire some staff, and create that unforgettable experience I believe more customers will dine in. The WORST service I ever receive. It was Father's Day. The worst Fathers Day meal ever and customer service. I would rate them a 0. I ordered Shrimp spicy udon noodles and they sent House udon noodles not once but 3 times. it came with chicken and beef. We were in the mood for hibachi and this place is not far from our neighborhood so to Kampai we went. We arrived around 5:00 pm and while part of the place looked pretty business, the hibachi tables were kind of empty. We were seated at a table by ourselves. Luckily more guests arrived and we ended up with a full table after we waited over 15 minutes. We ordered an appetizer that finally came right as the other guest were seated. The Wok Fried Tiger Shrimp was a little too hot/spicy for me but my husband enjoyed it. The avocado salsa was quite tasty. It was served with fried wonton type chips which were great for dipping. I ordered the Chicken & Shrimp meal from the land and sea combination section of the menu for $21.95 and fried rice was $1.95 extra; a little pricey in my opinion. This included soup, salad and grilled vegetables. The salad is served with your choice of ginger or ranch dressing. The food was ok but the egg in the rice was a little burnt. Nothing a bit of delicious Yum Yum sauce couldn't handle. No ginger sauce was served. And the chef forgot to serve one of the guests rice so we had to wait while he went to the back to get more rice and then prepare that separately. His overall performance was lackluster. The chef dropped one of the spatulas while doing the standard opening which normally is filled with lots of twirling and clanking. Next he did the smiley face of fire but that was about it. He didn't even do the onion volcano. I mean come on...that is hibachi 101! I didn't find it a good value for the price considering the average food and mediocre service. read more

This is the second time I've gone to this hibachi restaurant and every visit has been nothing less than delightful. They seat you quickly, but sometimes you have to wait for additional parties to ensure the chef is cooking for a full table. The food is absolutely delicious, but the appetizers? TO DIE FOR!!! I recommend the calamari and fried crab balls (not sure if that's what they're actually called). The yum yum sauce has the most adorable name and compliments your entire meal. #2 What a great sushi and hibachi experience. I was in town and met up with several old friends and this was our go-to spot. From the friendly greeting upon our arrival, to the wonderful ambience, to the stellar hibachi grill tables, everything was awesome. Our server met us with some warm sake and menus and offered a few specials. We ordered another sake bottle and some edamame to start. Next came the entrees. I do not even know how I chose between all the delicacies on the menu. Our chef met us with the usual BIG flaming fire thing on the hibachi grill that causes your mascara to melt. We asked for extra yum yum sauce--yes, yum yum sauce. It was really yum yum. We started with the calamari for the four of us and I began with tuna tartare that was absolutely divine (yes, I shared). It was served chilled with an egg yolk on top. The miso soup and house salad with ginger dressing was amazing. I had the usual nigiri for me: sake hamachi We had another order of tuna that was absolutely splendid, as if all the other food was not enough. We had fried rice, along side of our entrees. Talk about a fun time with sushi. We decided to go all out and see how this little fund could do. Our list of sushi includes some really fun ones. We tried a number of the specialty rolls. Our favorite was the "Snellville Roll," aptly named! This was probably one of the favorites of the night. The second one we highly recommend is the "OMG Roll." This Roll really did surprise us. We don't usually eat sushi that's heated or baked at all. This one was a sweet surprise! We loved it! Another surprise was the roll you see in our pictures and video where the rice was replaced with cucumber! That was so refreshing! It was a nice addition and reprieve. And then we had the Empire Roll. We loved this one. The dipping sauce was another treat. So much more to say and yet the best way to know is to experience it. Go try it out! The food was on point. I got the Sushi Appetizer. Yummy! I got the Chicken and Shrimp with fried rice. Good! The show was non existent. The chef didn't say one word. He never looked up. I get a better show from the chefs at Waffle House. We go out to hibachi for the show. You want the chef to be charismatic and personable. I expect the typical frills and thrills. They definitely need to start doing reservations, it's absolutely ridiculous for me to continue driving half an hour numerous times to have to wait an hour+ on seating. Last night, when I came she asked me to sign-in I asked how long the wait was.. she said "maybe an hour or more? I really have no idea" that's pitiful. The only good thing about this place is that it's clean... that's it. Oh, and despite the hibachi not tasting good, the cook had better customer service skills than our waitress. Since our table had 11 people, she automatically received a 18% gratuity, regardless of service. The service she gave us was so horrid, I wouldn't even wish this on my worst enemy. She didn't refill our sodas unless we asked her to, she was no where to be found when we needed something, when it was time to go, she didn't get us our Togo containers, we had to get up and get our own! Hell, she didn't even tell me she "can't" split our $500 check when I asked her to until I asked her why there's only one check, as oppose to 2. I had ordered out of the "Express" Menu for Lunch Time. I can say that this restaurant deserves a solid 3/5 Stars. The Combination I had gotten was "Chicken Teriyaki", w/ a side of California Rolls, Edamame, 1 Onion Ring, and Chicken Broth Soup. I paid 16$ for the meal. The best part of the meal was probably the California Rolls, because of the crunchy cucumber in the middle. The worst part was probably the Chicken Broth Soup. It didn't taste homemade at all, rather felt more like the broth out of a cup noodle. The soup had 2 slivers of mushroom, w/ no vegetables. P.S. - this restaurant would have earned a 3.5 out of 5 stars but the waiter made fun of my girlfriend for not knowing how to use chopsticks, to then gossip about it with her fellow coworkers :/ Would I come back? I was craving sushi AGAIN today, and I just missed Sushi Avenue, which closes after lunch at 2:30. I quickly went up the street to Kampai, and I think it was a good substitute. I had the Volcano Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll (tempura fried). Way too much for me to eat by myself, but I shared with my daughter. Although I took the sushi to go, and it was fried, it wasn't soggy or soft when we ate it. It was still crispy. The Volcano Roll was delicious. Even though they used imitation crab instead of fresh, it was tasty and sweet. My daughter liked this one best. The Spicy Tuna Roll was pretty good. The tuna at Sushi Street seems to be much better quality, but it was pretty good. I added some eel sauce along with my wasabi and soy sauce, and it was pretty tasty. All together, not a bad lunch. The chicken hibachi at Tokyo monroe is $10 if I recall correct at kampai it was $25 and Tokyo monroe is better anyday. The sushi was good but not great and it was above averaged price. If you're okay for overpaying for average food then I would recommend this place it's a nice environment inside. If not then stay away. read more

Well the service at this place is below subpar...I'm guessing they have budget issues that remained here from 7 years ago. They never have enough employees. To say I'm pissed is an understatement... My husband and I have been eating at Kampai in Snellville for the last 8 years and we spend no less than $100 each time! We've been extremely loyal customers even though the prices have gone up and quality of food has gone down. Tonight we brought food home and I find a dead fly in my salad. We call and the "manager" tells us she will credit our salad. Credit our salad? Lady we are not eating any of this food. She's gonna tell me we need to bring the food back so she can look at it. I'm not bringing it back... I'm trashing all of it and will never ever be back. I'm going to ensure you and the internet see how nasty you guys are! Take a look at this nastiness! The hibachi/sushi here is incredible, service is usually good although I did have one bad experience w/ an outlandishly obnoxious hibachi chef whose cherry on top of not getting a tip, thought it'd be hilarious to fling pepper at my face....good job, hashimoto. I'm probably a little more high strung about it because I have a corneal disorder so if pepper were to get in my eye, it would be catastrophic for me. Was sure to still tip the server though, if anyone's wondering. One thing though, don't EVER get hibachi as take out from here because they charge you the dine-in price & it's seemingly 1/3 of the portion. Total & complete rip off. read more
