The food YES. So yummy in my tummy, I am a big sushi lady!!! The inside was very nice, and the service was good too! The waiter was kind and everyone checked on us. We had lots of sushi! I want tO try the hotpot soon, as I have not had it before/ maybe next time!!!!! I will go back and get some. GRATE place for a date!!! Kind of expensive but for a special night I'd go! Also had some good Saki hot and and cold, the cold one was coconut flavors. Pretty good and different! You should try it

My friends and I went the other day (on a Monday at around 6 PM). It was quiet, and there was ample seating, charming décor, and very good service. We had a wide variety of rolls (see photo) and enjoyed each one. I highly recommend trying the "OMG Roll"--which arrives in flames--if you are in a small party.

Kampai is one of my favorite sushi places in the city. My favorite role is the Sunset roll, but everything I've had from a sushi standpoint has been great. Howver, the rest of the food there is not as high quality. We've tried a few things and they are just OK. So I would definitely stick to the sushi when going. They have good service and the servers are very nice. There is a limited drink menu and they do not take online reservations, but they will take reservations if you call.

ordered through Uber eats 4/3/26. no issues with speed/delivery etc....but this is the size of sushi you get - quarters and my thumb for size reference. I understand the current administration has made everything economically more difficult...but, this is insane....will make some pasta for dessert i guess, and won't be going back there, sadly.

I visited Kampala Sushi bar for dinner one day. This restaurant offers an assortment of sushi, warm entrees, and appetizers. They also have a fully stocked bar which includes domestic and non domestic beers, wines, and liquors. I ordered the shrimp tempura to start and it was hot and crispy! I also ordered the Yaki Udon which came with miso soup and a starter salad. The miso soup was warm and yummy. The Yaki Udon was a little sweet for my pallet but still good. Finally the sushi was good- I got an assortment of sushi with eel, shrimp, and salmon. The overall atmosphere was nice and staff were friendly. Parking is street parking but there are some garages around the neighborhood within walking distance of this restaurant. They do offer a Omakase (let the chef cook for you) at a fixed price which is nice. I may try that next time!

all staff member were super sweet and smiley! my boyfriend and i got the sake flight and the lycee drink. i wouldn't recommend the sake flight unless you're familiar with sake and or getting food to go with it. (it's like shots of rubbing alcohol) cute vibes and very clean! would recommend

Always amazing! I come here often and have had sushi all over the world including Japan. This place is always solid, they deserve better reviews. The miso soup is always hot and comforting, the house salad is fresh, and I always get the shumai. My favorite rolls are the OMG and Vegas. 10/10

I've been here twice now and will be back soon! The food is excellent at a very reasonable price. If you go please order the fried rice it's the best I've ever had at a sushi restaurant. The atmosphere and location are awesome and the sushi is insane! I rarely write reviews but I've been sitting thinking about how amazing this meal was and had to share. This place is a must try!

The service and ambiance was excellent and it got us excited to try this place. We're new to St. Louis from California and dying to find "our" new sushi spot near us in the CWE. The sushi was okay -- it could have been fresher with more taste. The prices are also a bit high. I would come back for a special occasion only and not a casual dinner. I would be willing to try new dishes again.

One of my favorite neighborhood spots! Great service and amazing sushi. Have not found a roll we haven't liked.

Sushi was fresh and delicious. We got the crazy roll, tornado roll, sunset roll, toro nigiri and salmon nigiri. Different textures and flavors really complemented each other in each roll. We also got chocolate lava cake for dessert which was warm, gooey, rich and amazing. Service was 10/10. Staff was nice, helpful and let us stay a bit past closing to finish up our food and drinks! Ambiance was calm and cozy. They dim the lights a bit at night and play calming music. I would definitely come back and get the same order plus a few more things!

Kampai has become my go-to sushi spot in CWE thanks to its consistently efficient service and reliable quality of rolls. The staff is really sweet and the food comes out quite quickly. There's plenty of seating available, so even though it gets pretty filled, I've never experienced a wait. The space is clean, warm, and comfortable. It's nice for a casual meal or even for a slightly more intimate date. I've tried the uni nigiri, which I honestly didn't love because it tasted like the uni had been soaked in sake. Their spicy tuna rolls were also a miss on me (maybe I had them on a bad day). However, the rolls that keep me coming back are the West Pine Roll and the Joy Roll. They're simple and similar in flavor, but well-done seared salmon rolls overall. Another honorable mention is the OMG Roll, which is really flavorful and has great presentation. Their takoyaki is also solid. I also really appreciate that they give you the option of complimentary miso soup or salad while you wait. The miso soup's got great umami with its inclusion of pieces of mushroom in it. Is it sushi that is going to blow your mind? No, but it's a great spot to come back to every time for consistently decent food and nice service.

Miso soup, edamame, and the teriyaki chicken appetizer. We got 3 rolls and they were really good, but I didn't get any pictures.

The food was good, service was friendly, and it was a nice date nice vibe. Very clean!

I will say, parking in CWE can be a little tricky. I also should mention that I came with a big party, and we had called ahead about splitting checks to make it easier. Then, when we thought one of the checks was already paid, we returned and were met with some disrespect. I do understand it was a large group, and I give grace to the new server, but I really think they needed a better team effort that night. We were looking for sake, and they had a decent selection of both wine and sake, but nothing particularly exciting. We decided to try the Hana white peach sake, which was a pleasant surprise. The food menus were in a state of disrepair, with staples holding them together. We started with some appetizers, including pork gyoza, crab rangoon, and spicy edamame. The pork gyoza was delicious, but the crab rangoon was quite crunchy and flakey with not much flavor. The spicy edamame tasted like it had been soaked in Franks' Hot sauce or Sriracha sauce, which I wasn't a fan of. I wish I had ordered them regular instead. For sushi, I opted for a shrimp tempura roll and a rainbow roll, both of which satisfied my craving. Overall, it was a decent experience for the price, but nothing stands out that would bring me back again and again like other places.
