I finally got the chance to try Sushi Koi after a friend recommended it, and it did not disappoint! Just a heads up, since it's in the Central West End, parking can be tricky, so plan ahead. The sushi we ordered: Hamachi Garlic Ponzu Roll - hands down my favorite Dragon Roll - my second favorite Fujiyama Roll - third favorite Central West End Roll - still delicious The flavors were on point and everything tasted so fresh. The service was super sweet and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Also, the takoyaki was pretty good! Overall, Sushi Koi is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and craving quality sushi!

Best sushi in STL. Maybe the best sushi I've ever had. Very impressed by the sushi chef Whitney. Seems like she makes all the sushi for the whole restaurant! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Overall, a good experience at Sushi Koi. We tried a LOT of things and most did not disappoint. You order by filling out a little sheet, and then then the waitress takes it and brings everything out pretty swiftly. Here's what we tried: -Edamame: 7.5/10 - Standard, mostly what you'd expect, except for a few of them were clearly under-steamed. -Seaweed Salad: 9/10 - A pretty perfect seaweed salad (wakame). Can't complain. Fresh and tasty. -Takoyaki: 8.5/10 - Honestly some of the best takoyaki I've had. Come's completely sauced up, and has a crispy outside but very gooey interior. The octopus is chewy, of course, but you have to expect that. -Chicken Teriyaki: 6/10 - The flavor of the sauce was good but the chicken was dry on the outside, almost like it had been pre-cooked and sitting out? -Wagyu Nigiri: 9.5/10 - UGH I just ADORE wagyu. This was such a rich bite. I think it could have used a bit more zing or flavor to accompany the rich meat and rice, but I can barely knock it. -Sunset Roll: 7/10 - Meh. It was okay. I didn't love the eel in here and I thought the flavor profile was pretty mid. -Crazy Roll: 9/10 - MMM yumm!! This was a perfect roll to order. The salmon was oh so fresh and tasty.

Wow! What a find! Sushi Koi is absolutely delicious! I kinda pigged myself out by ordering two rolls, (Shrimp Tempura & Crunch Roll) edamame and gyoza! Everything was excellent tasting, the atmosphere was really nice and the young server was really attentive and friendly! I never had an empty cup of water! I was in the area on business, but when I return (if I don't go back before I go home) I will definitely be back!

Went for a dinner and it was really good! Our server was super nice and accommodating. Place was nice and cozy. Not super big but a good amount of seats available. The sushi and other plates we got were good as well. We got seated right away. Street parking out front.

The service was amazing. Very attentive and made sure to pay attention my bosses severe MSG allergy and gluten allergy. Knowledgeable about what products she carries. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. And it's a unique little shop but very homey and inviting. We will definitely be back

Takeaway: The sushi was exploding with fish. I'd say this is probably the best spot in town for sushi. Pros: the value of what you pay for what you get is extremely good. The rolls I got were creative with the ingredients (like those roasted garlic pieces in the hamachi garlic ponzu roll) and as I said prior they do not skimp you on the amount of fish you get with each roll. Cons: management please take notice of this review. The music is comically bad. It has the production value of my 2007 GarageBand beats. Please consider playing something else in your restaurant or playing the music a lot softer. I don't think it does your food much service to have such bizarre stock music, that lacks character or sense of place.

Food 4/5 Sushi rolls are pretty good for St Louis. We love the dragon roll the best. We also enjoyed the green tea we ordered. Service 4/5 We enjoyed the service. Our water refilling was frequent. When we have 4 pieces of sushi left, the server has been checking on us more often -- trying to hint they need the table back for other customers. Okay! Ambience 4/5 Central location at Central West End. It's nice and cozy within the restaurant. We love the booth seating.

Ended up eating here for the first time during the Red Lantern Night Market the other evening. For the price and quality of the sushi, I'd say the classic rolls are a great deal! It was nice sitting outdoors on their patio as the inside would have been crowded and loud. Servers were kind, checked in on us during the rush, and managed the busy evening splendidly.

Tonight, we decided on sushi in St Louis. The high reviews steered us to Sushi Koi. So glad they did! This restaurant is small, with some indoor and outdoor seating, or you can sit at the sushi bar. We were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess/server. She offered us seats at the bar until a table opened. We elected to sit at the bar for the meal. The sushi chef was so friendly. She talked to us throughout the meal, wish one of our group a happy birthday when she overheard the conversation. The server was so nice at explaining favorites, the menu, etc. We went with several meals (check out my photos). We all loved our dishes!! First off, they are very generous on sizes and don't overstuff the sushi with rice. 2 rolls can easily fill you up! The only dish I didn't care for was the garlic roll. Check the menu or photo out for the name (I forgot lol!). I can tell how many would like it, just not my thing. For drinks, we tried the apple and peaches Saki! WOW were they smooth and delicious. Overall, the food is amazing here, only outdone but the staff's friendliness and amazing service. If you want sushi near St Louis... you have to check out this place!!!

When we pulled up, there was a line but it moved quicker than we thought. Once we got inside, we were both surprised at how small it was. While I've yet to go to Japan, it def gives off the vibe strictly from ambiance and the decor. It's small but intimate and offers seats at the "bar", as well as communal seating. We didn't get a choice and were sat at the bar. Ordering is done through the QR code and water is offered self-serve. We split an order of the appetizers: house cucumbers and karaage. I'm not a huge cucumber fan but I tried it. I preferred the one with miso as I found it to be more subtle in taste. The chicken was average and didn't wow me. We each got the chicken shoyu with no pork, no scallions and an extra egg. It felt like it took a long time to get our food. We were both surprised once we got it as we were expecting actual chicken pieces but after rereading the menu description, it was chicken oil. He was a bit disappointed as both our dishes were covered in scallions. I suggested we not send it back since it took quite a while to get our food and they were close to closing. Nevertheless, I found the broth to be tasty and full of flavor despite there being no meat. Overall, it was a solid first visit.

The spider roll was unlike anything I've ever encountered--in a bad way. The soft shell crab was mushy, grainy, and very off-putting. None of the fish seemed to be cut properly. The red tuna placed on top of one roll was sliced so poorly it wouldn't even stay on the roll. The white tuna nigiri (normally my favorite) had tough sinew running through it, making it nearly impossible to chew or swallow. I have never had to spit out sushi before, but I did tonight. The eel nigiri was also poorly prepared and wouldn't hold together--I was shocked it was served in that condition. After a $90 dinner, I've definitely learned my lesson. I hope this was just an off night, but unfortunately I won't be returning.
