Since they only offer takeout, there's no guilt about skipping indoor dining. And sushi is always worth the splurge to have someone else prepare it. Kazu includes thoughtful details in their packaging, and it can feel like a hug from a stranger. The quality is there!

My daughter wanted sushi for dinner. I came to my usual place...Yelp...to find a new sushi spot. After reviewing many, I decided to order from Kazu. I placed my order online for a 6:45 pickup. I arrived and was greeted. It's a small, quaint space with just enough working room. My order was ready and waiting. I came home and opened it, and everything was pleasing to the eye. My daughter and I set ourselves up to eat. All of the sushi and the Hamachi we ordered were very fresh and delicious. Honestly, it's been a long time since I've had sushi that tasted this fresh! I also ordered the seaweed salad. It was a little more fishy than I'm used to. I'd skip that next time. BUT sushi...my new go-to!!!

Tamm Ave Roll, tuna hand roll, Hamachi (Yellowtail), and Sake (Salmon).

The best sushi in Saint Louis hands down. The fish is fresh and the rolls are delicious! I have ordered from here four times already and the quality remains the same. Plus... they are super friendly and I love to support a small business. 5 stars!!!

From top left to bottom right: mackerel (not my liking), salmon, tobiko, hamachi (yellowtail), ikura (salmon row), ika (squid)

When I looked up for Japanese food in St. Louis, Kazu showed up as the places selling the best sushi in the area. Fairly speaking it is not the best nigiri I ever had, and not like to-go price, but it is fresh, the fish cut is of good thickness. I support all small business, and particularly one that does not ask me for tips on the paying screen!

Great sushi that uses very fresh seafood! Highly recommend giving them a try. Online ordering system is easy to use. Takeout is well packaged.

Holy shit. Is this what sushi is supposed to taste like!? I've seen stellar reviews for this place and have been intrigued but too lazy to drive down to Tamm. I was also pretty skeptical that it would be much different from any other place in STL -- how fresh could it really be in our landlocked state? But after a long and frustrating week I decided to treat myself. WOW. This stuff is so fresh and clean tasting and the sauces are flavorful and the rolls are generous. Pretty on-par with the pricing of any other sushi place in town too. If you want to have delicious, high-quality sushi and support an adorable small business, check out Kazu.

As per our Thanksgiving tradition, the husband and I were looking for sushi on a holiday and Kazu was open! The sushi was ready to go when we arrived to pick up and tasted fresh and delicious. The portions were a tad smaller than expected so our only regret was that we didn't order more. Also, because they are a small take-out only sushi shop, some of the hot items you may be used to seeing are not available. But given the quality, we'll be back... especially if they're open next Thanksgiving!

I'm not even lying when I say this might be the best sushi in St. Louis. Actually so good. Each piece tasted extremely fresh and clean. The fish was always the focal point. Everything from the rolls themselves to their packaging was handled with the utmost care and intent. I need to know where they source their ingredients. I also need to shake the chef's hand. Genuinely amazed. If you're in the area -- Hell, even if you aren't, please stop by and give this small business a try. Favorite dishes: Tamm Ave roll, hamachi roll, shrimp tempura roll

Kazu is a quaint little shop just a couple minutes from Forest Park. I stumbled upon this shop while looking for new places for sushi in St. Louis and was intrigued by all the positive reviews so I was excited to give Kazu a try! I had ordered for carry out, and the service was prompt, with my order ready as soon as I arrived. I tried the shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna hand roll, and hamachi and tuna nigiri - all of which I enjoyed. My particular favorites were the spicy tuna hand roll and the hamachi nigiri. I also appreciated the small touches: the thoughtful packaging, neat presentation (including a small cup for the soy sauce), and surprise guava candy! The sushi is a bit of a splurge but expected for good quality sushi and very reasonable given the great service. I will definitely be coming back!

Kazu Sushi To-Go is the cutest and I love them! I live a 20-minute drive away, but it is worth the drive. The fish is super high-quality and delicious, and the presentation is beautiful. You can tell they put a lot of love and care into their craft. Please protect this local establishment at all costs!

Ours was amazing, she said "we don't fork shame here" I fork shame, but she refused. Good for her! I also ordered a cocktail. I would arrive to Sado just for this cocktail, it had a coconut pillow top, that was reminiscent of a marshmallow. Delightful compliment to my savory dinner. Ambiance: Very nice, dark, cozy -- date night vibes…read more Service: Great! Polite, smiles, answered all our questions. We started with the Isaan hamachi. It was okay, but compared to Sado's version it just didn't hold up. The biggest issue was the aroma--it had a sour, almost "rotten milk" smell. I'm not sure if that was from the coconut milk reacting with the acidity of the dish and was intentional, but it really affected the overall experience. The flavor itself was decent, but smell plays such a big role in taste. Next was a white fish sashimi (I can't remember the name) served over a thin orange slice and topped with jalapeño. The flavor combination was really nice and refreshing, but the slices of fish were paper thin. At around $20, I expected a more substantial portion. The gyoza was solid. Nothing groundbreaking, but well-executed with great flavor, a beautiful crispy lace, and honestly one of the best-smelling dishes we ordered. The palm sugar ribs came highly recommended, so I was excited for them. Texture-wise they were excellent--crispy outside, juicy inside--but the sauce had an overpowering aroma that reminded both of us of wet dog. My guess is the fish sauce was a little heavy-handed. I've had plenty of dishes with fish sauce before and love the depth it adds, so I don't know if this was intentional or just an off night. The flavor itself was good, but the smell made it difficult to fully enjoy. (It was pungent in the worst way) The standout of the night was the Japanese eggplant. Absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and the chili crisp brought everything together. Easily a 10/10. For dessert, we had the mango custard coconut cake, which was also delicious. Favorite cocktail: the Re-Animator. Refreshing, citrus-forward, with just enough wasabi to give it a subtle kick. I've never had anything quite like it and would absolutely order it again. Overall, it wasn't the strongest first impression. There were definitely some highlights--the eggplant, dessert, and cocktail were all excellent--but if I'm spending this much on dinner, I'd probably choose Sado, where every visit has been consistently outstanding. That said, I'd still come back for that eggplant alone. This reads more like an honest dining journal than a takedown. It gives credit where it's due, clearly explains why certain dishes didn't work for you, and ends on a fair note rather than a harsh one.

As soon as we sat down, we could tell one of the servers was very annoyed at the group. From the start, he would answer with an attitude, harshly put the plates on the table, and was outright disrespectful when we asked about a friend's plate that never arrived. This person ended up leaving and going to eat somewhere else. I was a server before and understand that big groups can be frustrating. Nevertheless, there is no excuse to treat a table so rudely when they have been nothing but nice and understanding. The food was great, but we were all extremely dissapointed, specially me since I've been here numerous times with no problem. I had never seen this server before, so I'm not sure if it was an off day for him or what. Most people said they would not come back, which made me very sad since it's good food. Thankfully, the female servers were all very nice and accomodating after the entire situation. I highly recommend Sushi Koi for their rolls. However, do not come in big groups.

Once inside, I was directed to a table in the corner. The service was prompt, and we received our orders quickly. A younger gentleman approached us and seemed a bit confused when I asked about the drink menu. We were looking for sake, and they had a decent selection of both wine and sake, but nothing particularly exciting. We decided to try the Hana white peach sake, which was a pleasant surprise. The food menus were in a state of disrepair, with staples holding them together. We started with some appetizers, including pork gyoza, crab rangoon, and spicy edamame. The pork gyoza was delicious, but the crab rangoon was quite crunchy and flakey with not much flavor. The spicy edamame tasted like it had been soaked in Franks' Hot sauce or Sriracha sauce, which I wasn't a fan of. I wish I had ordered them regular instead. For sushi, I opted for a shrimp tempura roll and a rainbow roll, both of which satisfied my craving. Overall, it was a decent experience for the price, but nothing stands out that would bring me back again and again like other places. I might come back and try the ramen and see if that changes my mind.

Some of the bites are definitely an acquired taste (this meal was my first exposure to eating liver and sea urchin - both very bold and unique flavors) but getting to try new foods was something I really liked about this meal. The restaurant is beautiful, warm, and bright. You get to sit right up at the counter with just 5 other people when you do the nine-course dinner. Each course is prepared in front of you so it's neat to be able to see the chefs prepare the next course while you're eating. When you book the reservation, you get the choice to pick between tempura and yakizakana for one of the courses, and while the tempura was good (which I ordered), the yakizakana was excellent (which my husband ordered). They do a great job explaining what everything is that you're eating, how to eat it, and which order to eat it in. And even though it's all small bites, we left dinner feeling full and satisfied. We will absolutely be back.

The waiter was warm and knowledgeable, telling us stories and background on the food and beverage we had. His father is the chef and his mom does all the flower arrangements at the restaurant. It's beautifully decorated and sophisticated. There were two of us and we went with the 4-course $100 Omakase, which had 2 options and we did one of each: Omakase Nigiri and Chirashi. The food here was delicious and I can't remember all the items I had, but it started with a Tsukidashi tasting followed by a soup. Between the two options, I would opt for Omakase Nigiri next time. The wine and sake pairing was terrific, which introduced us to so many new beverages. Dessert is a must, especially at $5. The matcha mousse was airy and fantastic. You can dine by reservation only, and it's easy to make reservations on Tock, but need to plan ahead. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2026
