We used to love this place. It was super helpful for our business and we are here once a week. But for the last year, but more specifically the last few months the hours are never the same. They say they're gonna be open and they're not. We call and request the hours they give us a time. They're not there. We go to check in the morning. They say they'll be open till a certain time we go and it's closed. The hours are super inconsistent. And even if we swing by or call to verify the hours are never the same that they say they will be. read more

Tried to give service to this place a few times. 12-1 is lunch hour so I avoid going around that time..I went at 1:30 on day..the sign was up for lunch until 1PM..I knocked on the door..I asked the guy for help and he looked at me like I disturbed him..which he was on his phone either he was on his phone listening to music or some video..and pointed at the sign and I showed him my phone which said 1:30PM and he said no I don't want to do it now..and I was shocked at his response and left! We had our propane tank disconnected as it failed the leak test and after a couple of weeks of working with home warranty and 5 different plumbers, it is finally fixed on Wednesday morning. We called Kamps to reconnect our line right away and the earliest time they are available is this Friday between 10 to 2 and someone needs to be home. Both my wife and myself have something important at work today so we asked my son come back from college as we don't want to miss this appointment. By the time I got home around 4pm, my son told me that no one from Kamps came and he basically wasted a day waiting for no one. I called the office and was only told the technician on schedule today didn't have the right key to reconnect the gas and the next available appointment will be next Wednesday! What kinda of service is that?? Waiting a full week to get the gas reconnected so be prepared to live another week with no hot water or cooking! read more

I had bought a propane tank from a big box hardware store and needed propane. Based on reviews, I elected to bring my tank to be filled here. They are tucked away in the Hayward industrial area west of the Hayward SanMateo toll plaza. They try to minimize touch. I had pulled up and a couple of workers were at an outdoor tented propane filling station and they waved me over with my tank. They filled it immediately and gave a ticket with the amount of gas filled, instructed me to bring it in the office to be paid. and brought my filled tank to my trunk. Inside behind plexiglass windows, a cashier took the ticket and registered the gas and visually took my credit card information through the window then printed out my receipt. The experience was as seamless as can be and charge was very reasonable. They are a hidden gem for propane. Highly recommend for your propane needs. read more

Kamps used to be the best price and service level for propane service delivery in the Los Gatos area. Sadly, this has changed. Apparently they have been purchased and a few things seem to have changed. 1 - Prices are way up. I know several neighbors who have switched service or are planning to. 2 - Service isn't as great. They only go off of the delayed tank wireless data system. This works most of the time. However, if the power goes out and your propane generator is using a larger amount of fuel than normal, prepare to run out of propane. I have called them many times when this situation occurs and they fail to apply logic. So, inevitably you will run out of fuel in a serious time of need. read more

UNRELIABLE PROPANE SERVICE! Twice now, including this Sunday morning, Kamps has let our tank run empty. And we have an auto fill contract. This morning at 40 degrees the fuel ran out without warning. Their response was 'so sorry but can't help you until Monday'. I guess being a 15 year customer doesn't matter if it inconvenient for them to make an emergency delivery. INEXCUSABLE. INCOMPETENT. I have not been to Kamps for quite a while to fill up my propane tanks, and when I do go, they are not open from 1:00-2:00pm. I finally got there today and was surprised that their price per gallon of propane has gone up remarkably! It's now $4.04 per gallon plus tax! If I have to drive all the way from Fremont with my empty propane tanks, I expect to pay much less than refilling at Dale's Hardware! Will have to look for a much cheaper place to refill! read more

It's harder to find propane tank refills than I had previously assumed when searching around the area. I bought an empty 20lb tank and realized the same big box retailers only do tank exchanges, which isn't what I wanted. I was delighted to discover this dedicated propane business nearby. I can now FINALLY give 5 stars! We have been with KAMPS for about a decade now and they used to be AMAZING with their office customer service and prices the 1st few years, but about 4yrs ago the office service REALLY went down (as you can see in the reviews too) while the delivery guys have been good throughout the years. We were almost ready to bail when 6Ms ago or so a new rep really turned it around.... Not sure exactly why that slump happened, but I am happy they are back to being amazing and awesome. Specifically Jessie in Customer Service.. She is on top of things, a real gem and does everything she can to ensure things are in order and people are happy. Her Boss Steve is a good guy too, and Kyle their field Tech is a real asset. Happy to have stayed through the rough patch and hoping for all positives from here on out! read more

I'm a new customer, signing on to KAMPS after awful experience with another company. I am very impressed with Christine, who responded initially to me on the phone. She was helpful, encouraging, and explained the process clearly (field check, application, other protocol) so that I knew what to do, what to expect, and the time frame for getting service. Paul, Service Manager, came to my home and removed the old tank to a strategic spot for pick-up by my previous company. The staff at Kamps in Hayward is amazing. I had trouble this past summer with a fire pit installation that was done incorrectly by my contractor. The folks at Kamps went out of their way to help diagnose the possible problems, explain to me what they needed to fix and systematically get the fire pit fixed safely. For such a 'small job' with very little long term revenue potential, their level of commitment and professionalism was exceptional. We always go through a lot of propane during the winter for heating purposes and we use to go to a gas station on mission to have it filled and they load up my tanks with differing amounts. Kamps is pretty uniform with the weight that they load it up and thats all you can really ask for. As a bonus theres almost never any lines here. read more

I switched propane companies a couple years back and after being a customer for quite a while, I think it is time to write a review for them. I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains and everyone up here has propane except for the odd house that uses only electricity. A couple years ago, our community started a Yahoo email group and it has created a great way for everyone up here to share information. While reading the emails on what others were paying for propane, I realized I was overypaying by 1.50 a gallon for my propane. Kamps was the one company that was being recommended the most. I prepared for chaos as I decided to switch companies. Here is what happened. Kamps came out and installed one large tank to replace the two smaller ones I had. They put the tank exactly where I wanted it. Now the tank was tucked on the side and not sticking out in the middle of a walkway. They were able to bring me a small tank to provide gas until the installation was compete. The guys who came out did a great job, were respectful, and listened to me when I told where I wanted the new tank. Fortunately for me, I did have the tank installed in a new location because the old company did not remove the old tanks for several months. I finally had to call them and tell them that I had found out I had the right to sell the tank if they didn't come get it. That got them out here. Kamps has been providing me with the best prices for propane since the install and when I call their office, they answer the phone and are polite and helpful. It's been a great experience and I can't say enough good things about them. I have recommended them to everyone since I've been a customer. Hopefully, they got a few new customers from me! read more

These guys did me right. I needed a service valve replaced on my VW campmobile and when I called, they took me in the same afternoon, even though it's not really what they do. They replaced the service valve and did a soap test on all the connections before filling my tank. I was on my way in less than an hour at a very reasonable price. I grew up using the Kamps Propane in Manteca and I believe it's family owned. If I had known earlier that they had a shop in Hayward, it would have saved me a horrible experience at Allied Propane in Richmond. Look up my review there if you're interested. read more

So I call their number, (510) 471-7279), and it was answered with, "Account number?". There was no 'Hello', no 'Kamps Propane. How may I help you?', or 'How may I direct your call?'. I replied with, "I'm sorry, I don't have an account number". The lovely lady on the other end replies with, "Oh" and hangs up. I made switch of propane provider 12 days ago from a company that I had used for 14 years to Kamps. The two customer service ladies that I have dealt with were polite, responsive and knowledgeable. Service manager Paul and technician Robert came onsite the following week for survey. They provided valuable advises that also saved me from building another concrete pad for a second tank and, therefore, saved me good amount of money. A week later Paul, Robert and another technician came and swapped existing other company's tank with a larger Kamps tank. They were polite, pleasant, responsive, professional and they did a high quality job that included correcting wrongful propane line installation by previous company. I have never written a Yelp review. I am so impressed by their quality service that I am making effort to highly recommend them with my first review on Yelp. read more

I went to Kamps to turn in my empty grill propane tank since I'm leaving the state. No sooner do I get out of the car and some yahoo across the parking lot tells me I can't take that inside. I know that moron. So I go inside and feel this tension. I tell the gal why I'm there and she asks if I want it filled. No said before I want to turn it in. So another guy comes through the door and asked if I want if filled and I said no. So the gal asks him to inspect it . He says it's good to go. The two gals in the office have attitude. All I wanted to do was turn in the tank, pay my 5 bucks, and go. From some of these other reviews these employees need an attitude readjustment. They all acted unprofessional. read more

These guys are the worse!!! they take 10 business days or more to deliver the propane to your house!! in my situation they would never deliver the propane until I call and follow up. If its an emergency (which they take advantage off) they wanted more money upfront to deliver the propane - crooks - these guys need to go to jail!!! I phoned in advance and said I needed a small BBQ propane tank filling. When I got there I read on the pump that there's a 5 gallon minimum charge. As my tank is 1 gallon, that's a bit steep. What would have been nice is if they had volunteered that information on the phone, it would have saved me a 25-minute drive. It would be even nicer if they didn't rip you off for small quantities. Kamps has failed miserably in their service to my home. I called to cancel after waiting a month for a refill. I told them I would call back once the new tank was installed so they could pick their Kamps tank. Instead of waiting they picked up,the tank without notice. My new company has yet to install their propane tank. Kamps did this in a spiteful manner for switching companies. Dropped in to have Acme fill and bleed valve replace on an RV ASME propane tank. Terrell got it done in less than 30 minutes, was careful considerate. I moved to a new area where had a propane tank from Kamps and I called them to set up an account, the application was never emailed to me after 2 follow up calls. On the third attempt, I got the paperwork and filled it out, emailed back the same day..never heard back. 3 days later, I called to follow up and was told that "it's only been 3 days." I needed a health and safety inspection. 6 days later, same thing...I've called and emailed to followup at least 5 times and, now, my propane level is at 10% and I'm being told it'll take 3 weeks to get a refill. Given the size of the tank, I'll run out of propane well before that and the company is not willing to escalate this or do anything about it. Terrible service. read more
