    a box of fried chicken
    Steve S.

I was passing through. I saw this place nearby when looking for a quick late lunch. Being a lover of Korean fried chicken I gave this a shot. It was just ok. What I got was decent. But it didn't have the true crisp that Korean fried chicken has. The skin actually came out slightly more chewy than crispy. And the flavor just wasn't quite there for me. It had an slight burnt oil taste to me and really didn't have enough flavor in the batter to make it any better. I had higher expectations. They weren't quite met.

    Honey garlic regular sized $14.99

Small takeaway place that serves mighty delicious and crispy chicken. We got the regular size (8 pieces consisting of 2 legs and the rest wing drumlets and flats) in honey garlic flavor. Had to take it to go in a box and while I was tempted to try it right away I waited for the 20 min ride back home. It was still crispy and delicious. Friendly service. Wish they had some tables so that one could enjoy the chicken fresh and hot. Can take 20-30 min for your order so we just went to Pho Thai Nam next door for lunch 1 and grabbed the chicken for lunch 2. What?? Not everyone has 2 lunches you say??? Odd.

Breast? Hmm unexpected , but okay.

We bought the spicy chicken and it really wasn't that spicy. I'd give it a 3 in spiciness on a scale of 1 to 10. It was more smothered in Korean pepper paste and made the chicken soggy. The chicken itself was flavorless and the sauce didn't help so I think it was just a bad combination. Our family eats fried chicken once a week and have tried many different places.... For the money , (15$ for 8/9 pieces?) Popeyes would be a better option! I guess I was expecting something similar to Wings to Go, a vinegary spicy taste so the Korean pepper paste which is more dense was unexpected. I'm giving it a 1 stars based on the flavor we bought (spicy) and haven't tried their regular chicken. Perhaps that's a better choice? You decide. Just a suggestion but maybe adding coleslaw would help. :)

    4-piece Sampler for $10.00

No storefront signage yet. It may take 3-6 months. The restaurant sits between Kumon and Domino's Pizza. The man at the counter suggested the sampler because I wanted a variety. I received four pieces of chicken for $10. It's available for a limited time. I enjoy the double-fried chicken. I received all flats which I prefer, and they were all a decent size. I could not distinguish between the flavors, but I liked the Spicy Chicken one the most. CALL YOUR ORDER IN! It takes 30 to 40 minutes after you place your order. I'll check them out again in a couple of months.

I had the kang nam special and honey garlic, it wasn't bad but the flavor was just ok for the price point. It is a bit overpriced at $14~15 for the regular with probably 8 pieces (2-3 drumstick and 6 wings). The chicken was juicy tho and tender. I also tried the sweet fries. Overall i would say its good but a little bit pricey compared to other korean fried chicken places.

The food is made to order, so there was a little bit of a wait, but it was worth it for the hot, fresh, and tasty wings we got! The quality of the chicken itself was outstanding -- crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and nicely seasoned throughout. We enjoyed them with and without the sauces. The Spicy Garlic and Red Hot are both fairly spicy, but not unbearable. They don't have complimentary water, so bring your own or plan to buy a drink if you're dining in. If you've been to an Hmart, BornGa is basically the Hmart food court but its own independent restaurant, and that's not a bad thing. The menu is mostly made up of Korean soups and noodles, and I got myself a seolleongtang (ox bone soup). Really good among the seolleongtangs I've had, with a soothing beef flavor, a good amount of boneless meat that was easy to eat, and surprisingly some noodles in the soup along with the usual cup of rice. You do have to add salt as is usual for this dish, and there is a jar on every table. The highlight though was perhaps the only non-soup/noodle dish, the tonkatsu. My partner got it and it was HUGE, literally the size of your face. Perfectly crispy with a really nice sauce, no notes on the katsu itself. We did wish it came with more rice and the side salad, as the portions of those felt too small compared to the enormous katsu. However, there is complimentary and UNLIMITED kimchi (both the usual cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi) that you can serve yourself from a fridge, which is a great accompaniment to any meal. Just be reasonable and considerate with it, I'd hate for them to take it away because someone ruins it for the rest of us. Both dishes along with plenty of kimchi were incredibly filling, and every dish on the menu is a flat $16.99 (plus since it's counter-serve, no pressure to tip). All in all, BornGa is not the kind of Korean place that gives you a whole royal spread of banchan or piles of meat from the grill. But it's a great spot if you know what you're getting into - casual but affordable Korean comfort food.
