It can be intense or even painful but if you like deep tissue work, this is it the place. I also did the 12 step structural integrity program which was interesting. It focuses on different areas every session and was very very intense. Highly recommended as well.

The therapist here, Matt, follows a different approach called Rolfing or Structural Integration. This is NOT your typical relaxing, pleasing massage experience. You will get beat up, feel pain, and have muscles you didn't know existed stretched and strained. You will not have both sides treated an equal manner if they were not symmetrical to begin with. However, when you get up and walk around you'll notice you stand taller, look more even and feel better. You'll probably also need a glass of water and a moment to adjust when you get up. It's a trip because your body will need some time to get used to the changes made. Really this is more akin to physical therapy than massage, and you will really feel the difference. I've never found another massage therapist to be as knowledgeable and attentive to detail as Matt. I first went when I had a reoccurring neck injury, probably related to the long hours I spent in front of a keyboard at work. Matt not only fixed this at the time, but gave me exercises to do at home so I wouldn't have to come back. It worked, and I haven't had a repeat episode since. Every session begins with a line up, during which symmetry and possible conditions such as a hip rotation are evaluated. The therapist then makes a plan and gets to work on creating space where the body is tight or short, and works on lengthening those muscles and tendons. This is why therapy is not applied symmetrically and is not soothing-and why it works! He also offers a massage series, which works areas that might be considered bizarre until you try them. For example, the nostril massage was weird...gloved hand and lube kinda creeped me out...but actually helped me breath better, so I'd do it again. I highly highly recommend this style of "massage" for those with re-occurring muscle tension.

In order to relieve the pain and keep living healthy and happy I must have a very deep tissue massage often. I've bounced around for years trying different therapists all over RI and MA. More than three years ago I was introduced to Beth-Ann the owner of Massage on Main and she recommended I give her therapist Bill N. a try. I'm sure some guys feel weird about getting a massage from another guy, but I don't. Bill is extremely strong and can go very deep in the areas I need him to. I see him every week for an 1 1/2 hours and I he allows me to live basically pain free. If your looking for deep tissue work Bill is the best therapist I've had in 15 years. A+++ Thank you Massage on Main!!

I have always had a lot of muscle…read moretension, and my job involved a lot of physical labor, so my neck and shoulders, especially, ached and hurt and cramped pretty much every day by the time I'd been awake a couple of hours. Seeing Bill regularly is the difference between "aching almost all the time" and "I'm kinda sore at the end of my workday, but I'll be fine tomorrow." He's adaptable, asking before each session if there are specific areas he should concentrate on, and he's happy to skip an area that you don't feel you need much work on -- for example, we mostly stopped doing the mid-back, though he asks each time, because sometimes I want a bit of light work -- so he can spend more time on other areas that need attention -- in my case, the whole ring around the shoulder blades, which I'd never even thought of as something that would benefit from massage, but boy was I wrong! Also of note: I have a trauma history, and the PTSD and hypervigilance that goes along with that, especially regarding being touched. In all the time I've seen Bill, nothing has triggered me, which is remarkable. He's professional but easy-going, and I have come to feel like, when I am there, my body is kind of a complex, important machine that requires regular maintenance to work effectively.
