My family and I have been to this Kani house many times for special occasions (Birthdays, work promotions, meeting my sons girlfriend), and the food has always been good. However, things have drastically changed since our last visit. All of the meals have gone up exorbitantly. I get that the market for things has increased, but I have been there with a group of 7-8 people, and spent just over $200. This with Tip was almost $350. I also understand why places do mandatory tip on the size of party, but being forced to tip 20% on shitty service, well, that is just wrong. Our group of five people were sat with another group of 5 people at one of four Hibachi tables. We were the first seated at 6:30, and our server was Jadora. She took our drink order, food order, and soup/salad order, while the other 3 tables in the room were being seated. All 3 other tables were seated, and received their drinks, their soup/salad orders, and one table even started cooking their hibachi before our soup/salad arrived. I brought this up to the manager, and who our server was, and he said "He would take care of us." My wife & mother-in-law ordered Mojito's, and I don't know what they received, but they weren't Mojito's. My wife had them remade, and they still were not correct. Then when the cook was making our meals, 3 of us had Filet Mignon. Yet he only brought enough meat for 2, and had to be told that the 3rd person also had Filet. During this, Jadora came by and asked if anyone needed drink refills. Despite trying to get her attention twice, she never once looked at me and walked away. Upon getting the check, the manager came by and said "I took care of you." Apparently taking care of us was taking off less than 10%, and still charging us the 20% for the substandard service. Being forced to give a 20% tip for this kind of crappy service is not right, and to say "You're going to take care of us" and barely give us 1/2 off 1 persons meal is not good customer service. We will definitely be thinking twice before returning here for Hibachi again. read more

Kani House is an amazing spot for Hibachi and Sushi. Every time I enter the Johns Creek location I am always welcome with a warm greeting and multiple smiles. Reservations are recommended if you are wanting to sit and watch the hibachi being made, but they are not always required. I tend to sit at a table on any normal night. However, when I have family and friends visiting, Hibachi reservations are always the vibe. The location can get quite busy. They offer indoor hibachi, booth, and bar seating. If you order a Hibachi combo you more than get your monies worth. I tend to order the fried rice with veggies and filet with scallops. The entree items are always cooked to perfection and there is always enough for me to bring home leftovers. I have also sprung for their noodles as my side and they are also super tasty. If you like "sauced" thin noodles, then theirs are definitely for you. Additionally, with a Hibachi combo you get soup, salad, and ice cream for your dessert. I used to love Kani House, but the quality has gone down. We went yesterday to celebrate my daughter's birthday so the kids could watch the chef performance. The chef's performance was great, but the shrimp and filet mignon were stale -- the shrimp especially. On the way home, my kids and I started feeling sick with food poisoning symptoms. I had severe stomach pain and became nauseous later that night. Very disappointed. The experience was not what it used to be. read more

Our family has been coming here for many years. It is our go to for birthdays. While I was thrilled to see the health score is excellent, the presentation was very lackluster. While I have seen the "volcano" dozens of times, as well as the "shrimp toss" and fake sauce being squirted on someone, none of that happened and it was greatly missed by all of us from 16 years old to 70 years old. The service was good, but the chef did a lousy job on my wife's salmon, and the portions were smaller than in previous trips. I've come here twice and had the same great experience both times! We made reservations via phone both times and were seated right away. Everyone at the front desk entry way was friendly and prepared to seat you down at your table. There's two areas to sit in. If you just want sushi you can sit in the middle booths and there's separate rooms for the hibachi to be made right in front of you. I love the separate rooms so everyone is more spread out. We've had Willy as our chef both times we've been here and he's truly amazing! Not only is he funny but all his food is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The waitress who took our drink order was very quick and we appreciated that. I ordered the Chicken Hibachi the first time and the second time, I ordered the combo chicken and shrimp hibachi. Both meals were delicious! The hibachi dinner comes with a soup, salad, steamed rice, meat of your choice and a scoop of ice cream or rainbow sherbet. You can add fried rice for an additional $2. We just love it here! As soon as we got up, they were ready to clean the table and make sure everything was ready for the next party. There's plenty of parking in their parking lot. We did a resident outing with my Senior Community here. Big fan of hibachi and nice to have something in the Johns Creek area. They were able to accommodate our seniors with wheelchairs and get us in comfortably. It is actually nice inside of here and they have a really nice aquarium to look at. There was nothing spectacular about this visit and the food was par for the course. My teriyaki chicken and fried rice were decent but they did give huge helpings to us. Everyone left with lots of leftovers and full bellies. The chef did the usual funny stuff and the residents were happy. All in all, a good outing! read more

Instead, you allow people to still place orders, arrive just to find out you're closed... at 5:30 pm. The LEAST you could do is alert your effing customers that you're closed!!!!!!! Not only that, your phone system very literally instructs people to go order online. Instead of a notice that they are closed during their normal business hours. We ordered bam bam scallops for an appetizer, and it was excellent! My kids each ordered two rolls and I got the chirachi don sushi bowl (which came with soup and salad and ice cream). The kids got the volcano roll, crunchy California, rainbow, and eel. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious! Generous fish and size of everything! Come only couple times per year for birthdays. So not a frequent visitor. I won't be back. First they post sign that they want you out 90 minutes after your seat time. No big deal until they seat you at your appointed time to wait 30 minutes before your drink order. Then they are out of several beers. Which I then recalled they were out of several beers last time I was here. The show you get is hit or miss. Tonight was a huge miss. NO show. Just cooked the meals quickly and moved on. But before he started his cook we noticed that the cook surface was dirty. Still had some residual food on it. It as in the center not in the corners. So no way to miss it. Guess what was not cleaned up before the food went on the surface!!! Don't look at the floors. Not very clean. The food was average at best. The flavor was just ok. I believe it has declined a lot since my last visit. Last comment is that it can get really really loud. Kids at two tables were getting show which is great. Gave Kani House a try in spite of the kind of scary reviews. Sometimes, you have a pretty clear vision of what you want for a meal. I haven't had a proper teppanyaki meal in a while, and I was siked. Kani House is our local brand. The flagship restaurant opened in Woodstock in 1999, and since that time, it has expanded to 5 total locations in this area. If you some reason don't want dinner and a show, you can also choose to eat in a more mundane setting. I ordered the chef's special, with filet mignon, shrimp, and scallops for $36. All entrees come with soup, salad, grilled vegetables, rice, and iced cream. Fried rice is a $2 upcharge. If you're a spicy food lover, it costs a staggering $3 to add chili paste to your entree for some reason. Our chef mostly did a great job. He was very entertaining and fun. The food tasted great. I have to figure out the secret to the always incredible hibachi fried rice that these restaurants have mastered. The only downside, that may be specific to this chef, or may just be Kani House's style, was the pacing of the meal. I generally like to enjoy my entire entree at once. The chef's pacing made it so you had to eat the rice and veggies first if you don't want them to get cold. Not a big deal, but also not my favorite way to enjoy the meal. My issue with the pacing of the meal didn't stop it from being one of the best that I've recently had. read more

we visited this hibachi restaurant last night and my friend let the staff know ahead of time that he has a serious shellfish allergy. They assured him the chicken would be cooked first to avoid cross-contamination with shrimp. Unfortunately, they did not follow through--they cooked the shrimp first and used the same spatula for both, which put my friend at serious risk. This kind of oversight is extremely dangerous for people with food allergies. Disappointing and concerning experience. My friend did not eat the chicken and then he was charged for the full meal. It was unexpectedly delightful albeit noisy! I decided to dine at the bar which was much quieter, focusing mic of the bar staff's attention on me and the other patron at the bar. After church hubby and I wanted to grab hibachi with the kids, Kani House was the closest one to where we were. We'd past it for years and years but never had eaten there. I'll be honest, once when we pulled up the parking lot was empty and it looked it little tired on the outside, but we decided to give it a shot anyways. Inside was really nice! My husband said it was one of the nicest hibachi restaurants he'd ever been to. Beautiful fish tank and decor. We had a hibachi table/room all to ourselves, always a plus with young kids (only because it was empty, not by design). The way they do their hibachi menu is that it's actually cheaper to get double protein than a single, so we both both chicken and ribeye hibachi. Our chef was Jose and he was EXCELLENT! I mean the best hibachi prepared food I've ever had. He seasoned and cooked everything exceptionally well and was so kind. He engaged our three year old, and after we told him she was eating with us, he would portion off veggies, chicken and steak and cut it small for her to eat. I have literally never seen anyone be that thoughtful when eating out with kids ever. We had such a great and low key hibachi lunch as a family and the staff and service at Kani House made it happen. When we are back in John's Creek, we'll definitely be back. read more

Probably sat under a heat lamp or warmed up. We sat down at the hibachi table to start with and then they came up to us saying they didn't have enough cooks and that we would have to wait 40 mins for a cook so they moved us to a table. The hibachi presentation here is so subpar, that's all this review is about. If you come here for a show, 4 out of 5 times you won't get one. I don't mean they're not Japanese, or something petty like that (they're not). What I mean is the chefs do very little to make this into a fun experience. I think in the past year I've taken my girls there 5 times, and only once did we get a chef who was high energy, skilled, and kept it up throughout. And we aren't talking Tuesday lunch, but Friday at 7pm. Think of all the things you see at hibachi: maybe an intro fire blaze, juggling eggs, making them multiply under the bowl, flipping spatulas, tossing eggs and having them land on the side of the spatula, drawing with eggs, tossing bits of cooked food into mouths to cheers, volcano build, volcano turns into train, tossing shrimp into hat, juggling salt and pepper and sesame while clanging on the table, and flair with food cutting and delivery. I'm sure you can think of more. I've seen much of this at Kani but tonight and the last few times, during prime dinner time, we got: intro fire blaze, volcano, that's it! We came in on Father's Day without a reservation. First we were told they were only doing Hibachi for those with reservations. We thanked them and turned to leave. They asked us to wait a minute. They went and asked a family that was getting ready to start their meal if we could join them. They graciously agreed. Service was quick and friendly. We got our order in and quickly received our drinks and salads. The ginger dressing is so good and the salads were fresh and crisp. The soup was also good. Our hibachi chef did a fantastic job. He was friendly and engaging. The food was fantastic and the portion size was huge. We all took boxes home with leftovers. It was a wonderful way to celebrate my husband. The Kani House is tucked in a corner of a strip center in John's Creek so it is possible you've driven by and not seen it. The space is large, with half the dining space dedicated to menu and sushi ordering and the other half in hibachi rooms. There is a brightly lit (maybe too brightly lit) and lively bar area which could thrive in non-COCID days. While it is nice and clean, the atmosphere lacks a little of that wow factor and vibe than it could have. Maybe dim the lights a smidge and add some Japanese tunes? The menu was what you'd expect from a Japanese steak house with similar pricing. The food was fresh and tasty. The service was prompt and friendly and our hibachi cook/entertainer somehow managed to have new material (tough to do). Don't forget this spot when refreshing your local favorites. read more

My go to hibachi place! My little one loves the kids shrimp hibachi yet always eats my steak order. Definitely get the black rice fried rice! I like the yum yum sauce here because it's not too sweet like at other places. Tonight we had another fabulous dinner and discovered the bang bang shrimp. I thought it may be too spicy for my daughter but she devoured it! Our server was Joseph - very attentive and even tried to feed the eel in their aquarium for the kids to see. Our hibachi chef was funny and the kids were entertained so we could have some adult conversations. The owner, James, came by our table and checked in on our table as well as those around us. I like that level of customer service without it feeling intrusive. If you're looking for a fun, unique dining experience that's great for kids, grandparents and the like, check it out. I'm not sure what going on here tonight, but we have been by here before when it was just closed on a regular weekend night, but tonight they were open but said all of the hibachi was closed. They said we could eat but we had to sit at a regular table. There was plenty of staff standing around and only one other group in the restaurant. They proceeded to turn away dozens of people before seating one random group at one of the hibachi tables. Then they went back to turning people away. They still charged hibachi pricing for small plates and rushed us out of there. Clearly this business is a money laundering front for something, but I guess they forgot to tell them that they actually had to pretend to run the restaurant.
