I'm not sure what going on here tonight, but we have been by here before when it was just closed on a regular weekend night, but tonight they were open but said all of the hibachi was closed. They said we could eat but we had to sit at a regular table. There was plenty of staff standing around and only one other group in the restaurant. They proceeded to turn away dozens of people before seating one random group at one of the hibachi tables. Then they went back to turning people away. They still charged hibachi pricing for small plates and rushed us out of there. Clearly this business is a money laundering front for something, but I guess they forgot to tell them that they actually had to pretend to run the restaurant. Grandson asked for hibachi for his birthday dinner and we chose Kani House. The "show" was fun, the chef engaging, the service was attentive, and the food servings were generous and very tasty. I made reservations and noted that our visit was a birthday celebration. We did arrive a little early and we were asked to wait in the entrance/lobby area. I could see into the hibachi room that there was a clean, empty table. Our wait ended up to be around ten minutes with no explanation of why the wait. A party of six arrived and we were called to the table with the party of six. What? Why couldn't we have been seated to enjoy a beverage and an appetizer why waiting instead of sitting around the lobby area? We did order two appetizers to share, and they were delivered after our hibachi meal was being served. After dinner, the staff came out to celebrate a birthday in the party sharing our table and nothing was said about our grandson's birthday until we said something and then there was a "sort of" late acknowledgement. My husband and I are frequent visitors here. We do table seating and enjoy our favorite, the bang bang shrimp, delightful! The bar offers many cocktail options. Mr.Yi is our favorite person there. Works crazy hard but always has time for a smile and a short story. This place hasn't changed inside in over 15 plus years but hey, as long as the seats are comfy, food is good, music stays at a nice volume, we'll be back, especially to see Mr. Yi (ugh, they do tend to rotate the managers around so he may disappear for a while which is a definite negative, no one is nearly as friendly.) read more

Terrible service!! Went to celebrate my son's birthday and was treated horribly after simply asking for soy sauce and spicy mayo sauce we had previously ordered. Sushi had been sitting at the table for over 10 minutes. Waitress never came back to the table but sent others and gave us dirty looks every time she walked by. We have been going there and ordering delivery for almost 2 years and I will NEVER go back!! Talked to one of the managers and he barely apologized.. stay away!! Typically we have a great experience here, but this one was awful. Ordered through DoorDash. 2 dishes for me and my buddy. Missing fried rice, only 2 pieces of beef in my buddies Bento Box. I frequent this restaurant but as of late it has gone downhill. Table service is terrible they rush you and the waiter I had did not pick up any of the dirty dishes. When I asked him to he picked up one dish. every dish remained on the table until we got the check. Food wasn't fresh and waiter was not good. We ate dinner on 11/25 with sushi and hibachi. As I said I frequent this place but no more. Just ok quality on the food and the terrible waiter add for an unpleasant dinning experience. I did my first visit at this location a month ago for my son's Birthday. Atmosphere: it was quaint and quiet. Not a lot of activity or business. Needs updating. Entertainment: of course this is why most attend Hibachi Grills. It's the entertainment value. Our chef was polite and awesome! Service: I think our server was new. Came here about a week ago with my sisters on a Saturday night. We had a reservation at 7:30 but had to wait almost an extra thirty minutes until we were seated, a little annoying but no big deal. I rarely eat in at restaurants now because of covid so it's nice when you go to a restaurant and see that they're taking the necessary precautions. The layout of the place was your typical hibachi style restaurant, nothing special but the place seemed to be clean and well kept. The staff were all really friendly, and everyone working there were wearing masks. To get a menu they had the ones that you scan on your phone so no physical menus. When we sat at our table there weren't people sitting next to us, only a couple with their child across from us at our table, so social distancing standards were upheld here. Now as far as the food goes, pretty good! I got the hibachi shrimp which came with soup and salad (appetizers) and the shrimp had vegetables and fried rice! The quality of food was definitely better than a lot of other hibachi places I've been to in the past. Our chef was nice and was quick to make our food so that was a big plus. Overall, this place kept up cleanliness, social distancing, masks, and made some pretty good hibachi in the process! Came here for pandemic curve side take out. To be honest my hopes were not high with hibachi to go but wow WOWWWWW it was soooo yum yum yummy (ah yes they have the yum yum sauce) The filet was incredibly tender, the only "negative" would be it was a little too cooked but still very tender. It was like butter! No joke. Ok now the chicken was a little dry so stick with the filet. Their fried rice was flavorful but not the garlic flavored type that many hibachi places add. Their veggies were nice and fresh. Most of all they were very accommodating and took precautions during these times. Will definitely go back. They offered coupons and an Easter special. My nephew's wife suggested we celebrate his birthday here so my sister and I decided to visit. I have always seen but this was our first try. First the decor is really nice and relaxing. The fish tank in the front is gorgeous. So we meet up at Kani around 7:15pm and we decided to do the hibachi. We all know that's it's usually a wait time. We got seated at our table around 7:30 pm. One of the hibachi grillman was just finishing so we were being patient. Well 20 minutes later a gentleman noticed that we haven't been greeted or served drinks. Which is wierd because our server was in and out of our room. She eventually takes our order after apologizing. Our grillman is funny and does all of the usually trucks and was very engaging. Our server brings us the wrong order and has to rush back to get the correct one. My sister is allergic to avocado and that was what she attempted to serve her. Ouch. The food was very good and plentiful. Our meals came with desserts but before we got them she gave us our checks. Wth. We had to ask for them before she cashed us out. My nephew noticed the now hiring sticker when we left. Makes you wonder. Food good, service not so much. read more

I get a full feeling in my stomach every time I think of Kani House. The food is so incredibly good and there is soooooo much of it. I always feel stuffed and like a gluteness when I leave. Food is 5 stars. Little pricey. The staff weren't very familiar with the menu and we had some difficulty with the drink orders and especially getting a price on the different size lobster at market price. It was so confusing, we decided to not even order the lobster. The rest of our experience was pleasant and very tasty. We will return. read more

I normally don't eat Asian food, however, I was talked into going here Saturday (2-16-18), and I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone! The food and service was excellent! What made me the happiest was seeing a 100 health score! YAAY! We were a group of 4, and we all sat at the Hibachi grill! I had never sat a Hibachi grill before where the food was cooked right if front of me before, so to say the least, I was very impressed. The cook "Jonathan" was HILARIOUS!! I got the Hibachi shrimp and tilapia, with veggies and steamed rice! It was so good! Oh, and I have new talent: catching rice in my mouth!! LOL!! Jonathan asked if anyone at the table we were sitting at wanted to try to catch the rice as he flipped it to you from behind the grill, I said "I'll be a good sport" and I did it!! Yaay me!! Rough Monday. Place was empty, but took 30 minutes to get a cold miso soup and edamame. Similar to other restaurants, very difficult getting good staff and it shows. Always someone new at the front, and always empty. Only good thing is convenience. But I think given the most recent visit, this will be my last. Tough finding good sushi in the suburbs. read more

Shady business here. Check your receipt. Five of us went here for lunch today and all five of us got different hibachi meats. The food was good and the cook was funny. Service was good. When we got the bill, it seemed a bit high to me so I took a closer look. We were overcharged on every single meal. Two were $2 more and three were $1 more. Before saying anything to the server, I pulled up the menu online and saw the lower prices. I showed the server and he wanted to know where I got the menu on my phone from and that he'd go get the menu. I remember the menu prices too but figured he'd bring me a different menu with higher prices. If he did, oh well. But, the menu he brought had all of the lower prices. He then told me that the menu prices went up. I told him that the prices might have gone up but the menu prices surely didn't go up and that's an important place to change them. He was quick to adjust my bill. I noticed the man who paid the bill from the other group at our table kind of hanging around and then studying his bill for a while while he stood. He then gave the server a glare as he walked out so I'm assuming he was overcharged too but since he'd already paid, he just went on without saying anything. There's no telling how many people don't notice this and just pay the non menu higher prices. read more

I don't have a problem with kids but I would expect that the hostess would seat the groups with kids together and the adult groups at another table. I have dined here probably 30+ times over the last five years. Tonight's visit will be the last. The consistent issue for Kani House is lack of consistency and a low priority for service, as many other reviewers have observed. This bad trend seems to be accelerating over the last 12 months. Every time we visit there seems to be a new crop of servers who seem to be less skilled than the previous crop. My observation is that management is MIA most of the time and not concerned the remainder of the time.
