I started with the miso soup and house salad, then moved on to the fried gyoza, some nigiri, and a tuna roll. I asked for ponzu which was nice. Everything was solid. The Las Vegas roll was a highlight, it was crispy and flavorful with a creamy spicy sauce. I finished with the chicken soba noodles, which was a bit bland. Corner of the strip mall at Belle Isle with Walmart next to Penn Square Mall. After a hefty meal walk a few feet over to Tours le Jours for a dessert or a drink. We came for the AYCE. Their fried foods has too much batter and overly cooked. Their sashimi is fresh but not great quality just okay, sliced very small, so order at least 2 of each cut. Presentation was nice with the boat. Not much choice with fish variety, but all the common usuals are available: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc. Not as good if comparing to Yes Sushi, but they are only a month old so need to give them a chance. It was pretty good. I can't say the same for the rolls. They weren't bad as in they were OK, but on the low end of average. Been lazy and not posting reviews lately, but getting this one out because Kanpai Sushi is a new restaurant and deserves more business. If I lived here it might be the place I come to most. I am a sushi nut, but I also like variety - I liked cooked food too. The menu is huge - I didn't even get any cut rolls this time; so much other things I wanted to try. Like Fried Oysters, one of my favorites that I can't get at my regular places back home. Everything I tried was high quality, more so for a AYCE place. Most of the dishes were on the small side which I prefer. I like to get many different things and I don't like getting stuck with a lot of something I don't care for. In the case of Nigiri, I think it actually tastes better when it's smaller. Service was excellent. Hope to be back to try other dishes. read more

Me and my husband have came here a handful of times. We have had Ryan as our server two of those times. Our experience with him the first time was OK -- not good not bad, just ok. This last time we went to Kanpai he was our server again, which is when we experienced a negative encounter. We ordered our last entree and 10 minutes later asked him if the entree was still coming out he said yes, then 10 more minutes passed and we asked him again and he said yes. We got tired of waiting and once we were ready to pay the bill asked out of curiosity if the entree was still coming out so it wouldn't go to waste he said, "Oh yes, do you want me to cancel?" we said, "No, we'll take it" he said, "Okay let me go place the order" -- ?? So that means he never placed the order and had us waiting around an extenuated amount of time for no reason? Additionally, we waited a great amount of time for all of our food compared to every other visit, and there were only 3 other tables occupied in the whole restaurant. read more
