The restaurant was quite busy for a Friday lunch, but the space felt clean and spacious, and our server was efficient and polite. We started with the leche de tigre as an appetizer, which was very tasty. I especially enjoyed the marinated raw crab leg and appreciated the bright acidity of the dish. For our mains, we ordered the costilla al horno (pork ribs with rice and beans). My husband really enjoyed it, though I found the ribs a bit dry, but I'm also generally not a fan of dry rubs. The fish soup that it came with was delicious. I ordered the shredded hen lunch special. First time here and I don't know why I didn't try sooner! It's such a beautiful ambiance inside! They actually have new additional side now that a friend who frequents this restaurant. The food was pretty good though I may still have not have all of my taste buds sback yet since I was sick so definitely want to return. We chanced upon ladies night which is for every entree you get a free drink. Choices was margarita or a pisco punch. I got the pisco punch but a few of the ladies got the margaritas and they looked good as well. Everyone got their own dish and everyone enjoyed themselves mentioned they haven't seen till our dinner. Now it's a light green paste with no garlic pieces just a mushy cream sauce. Literally the whole reason I picked to go there for my birthday dinner. Since I did not want that without there original sauce, I ordered the Camarones al ajillo instead and there was not one piece of garlic in that, the sauce didn't even have a strong Garlic flavor. 5 burros makes it amazing. This one I ate 2 shrimp and wrapped it up to to fix it and make more flavorful at home. If something was delicious the way it was, why change it and make it worse? Well now, this is a follow-up review that is long overdue lol, waaaay back during covid my wife and I ordered delivery, might have been the best delivery meal we ever had and we swore when covid was over we were going to have to go check them out, somehow that only happened now and man ..we were definitely missing out! What can I say about Kantu? The food , cocktails, ambiance all top tier. The staff was warm ,friendly and inviting..our server Daniel was outstanding and totally understood our vibe lol. The food was impeccable, cant find one thing to complain about, everything was well prepared and delicious, the servings are absolutely huge and can easily feed 2 people, a great place to order a bunch of different things to share, which is just about my favorite thing to do The cocktails are next level and their sangria is top notch as should be the case with any Peruvian place worth its salt. L ordered the steak and a seafood rice with ceviche for me. The rice had a nice texture, like a paella ...but after a few bites I got pretty full. It had shrimp, mussels, squid and maybe clams. Shrimp was overcooked. I liked the rice more than the seafood; the ceviche was good. Very fresh. I took most of everything home. L's steak wasn't cooked medium like he wanted but he didn't want to complain. It was still seasoned nicely. He loved the fried rice that comes as a big side. It's a nice, modern restaurant in an area we usually don't go to since we stick to the main streets of Queens Blvd. We did like the food here, so we might come back one day.. Huge DISAPPOINTMENT !!! New to the neighborhood searched for a Peruvian spot.. too tired ordered via Grubhub.. food came .. ordered lomo saltado and other stuff .. got chicken instead .. no biggie .. called the restaurant .. told the woman the name and attempted to tell her we got the wrong thing.. and she would not let us talk.. kept repeating the order.. yet we tried to tell her we got chicken versus steak... she literally hung up the phone on us ... completely baffled .. we called back and obviously she didn't answer.. we called back from a different number enroute to the establishment .. the gentleman answered and declared he'd rectify the issue .. we get there she greeted us and asked if it was her we spoke to and the argument ensued.. she didn't even let me talk and proceeded to tell me she had two people with the name so she was only trying to verify.. but given her standoffish defensive demeanor .. I highly doubt two orders with the same name and same order with the exception of one being chicken and the other being steak existed .. but stranger things have happened.. I said to her "you're in the business of service .: you could have simply listened to the issue before chirping off and making excuses... she is incredibly rude Yasmin R.. who I then realized is the owner which made this entire debacle of a first impression experience even more disturbing .. you were rude and lack etiquette and couth! You were dismissive and simply "wrong and strong" I mean damn.. I can only imagine what you must have said to your staff about us .. not knowing who we were or even what the actual issue was .. or even taking the time like a good business person to listen to concerns of customers ... I would give the place 2 stars because the food was decent. Food is very tasty here. We stopped by right before the breakfast was going to be over and ordered chorizo and eggs, and a tenderloin stew. Each meal came with unlimited coffee. They were both very good altho the tenderloin stew was def the star it was so savory and hearty. We loved dipping the bread into the broth it came in. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !! We were referred by a relative to order from this restaurant since we are having a family gathering. I was interested in their catering menu which is on their website with prices. My fiancée and I agreed on this so we contacted them 2 weeks ago via their website. A week passes by and no contact. I decided to call them and one of their staff informed me the manager is the only who deals with this and to call back two days later still no response from the first attempt. We understood and waited. I called two days later and the manager was finally in, only to find out she CHANGED THE PRICES !! The prices she was giving me were different than the ones on their website. I told her to give me a few minutes to consult with my fiancée and she said ok. We called back 5 minutes later and was informed by one of their staff she had left ..... We couldn't even get our questions answered by said staff because SHE was only one to take charge of that ??!!! When we explained our concern the staff said you can call the day before ... no that's the point !!! My fiancée and I like to plan ahead hence the communication from 2 weeks ago. We were left appalled by the unprofessionalism and lack of communication. If you want to change the prices update them on the menu and don't change them like you're making it up as you go !!!!! As a local I really love Kantu. Their interior space is so nice - so much greenery and a skylight. Would be great to host a party here (which I tried to do once earlier this year but never heard back!) They have a great happy hour and extensive cocktail list, all of the drinks are great. Delicious and perfectly crispy! I overheard both tables next to us ordering it at the same time that we started eating, so it's definitely a favorite on the menu! Main Dishes: Arroz chaufa de pollo and a weekend special, Seco de Cabrito (goat stew). Portion sizes are great and plates are definitely shareable, especially the arroz chaufa, which was so good! Owner is a nice lady who sued to hook us up with free shots and stuff because we used to go a lot. I ordered from here for the first time since the place moved to forest hills. My wife had the chicken cutlet. She said it was excellent. I had the steak but was not impressed. The delivery and presentation was not up to par for a $44 steak. I ordered the rib eye with asparagus and yuca. The steak was a 7. Asparagus was not edible. I would eat here again but onto in person. read more

This place is so pretty from the outside and inside. I love the skylight they have inside - the vibes are just so comfortable. i've been here twice and have enjoyed the food each time. Seating is comfortable. Food is plentiful. They are kid friendly and give plastic cups (with lids) of water for children. Reservations are recommended if you have a larger group for more comfortable seating. Pollada - great sharing dish with a large piece of chicken, yuca (I think) and french fries. Tallarines Verdes - tried it twice with grilled chicken and salmon. I enjoyed the salmon a lot. The fettucini is coated with the sauce and is delicious. Very popular with the kids. Some of the dishes come with salad which is filling in itself. We also tried a grilled chicken breast dish and a shrimp dish that was really good.
