Kapanzhi has been my (and my entire family) mechanic of choice for the past 18 years. Always does a great job, very friendly and works with you, regardless of issue. Prices are very decent (though I don't count parts, as well, they are what they are)... Most importantly, they are honest - if you really don't need something done, they won't try to BS you into doing it just to make a few bucks (at times rather the opposite - I remember asking to get the breaks changed, to which Pete said not to waste the money as they should be good for at least another six month and who knows if we'd still have the car - he was right, we sold the car)... Had a great experience here. The AC in my car had been broken for over 2 years, and I recently got a job that requires over an hour of commuting each way. Not so much fun in July with no A/C... Previously, by a mechanic in Virginia, I'd been told that the condenser needed to be replaced and that it would be anywhere from $400-900 for the part, plus installation labor and replenishing the refrigerant. I felt a bit ripped off by that but didn't bother getting it fixed at the time. When I called Kapanzhi, I explained the problem and Peter was very upfront about exactly what he would do, what it would cost, and what the next step would be if that didn't work. He was able to take the car that day, and four hours later I picked it up - the A/C worked great, and has for the last two weeks. It cost less than $150 including labor and supplies. My mother had been taking her soccer mom mobile to the dealer for years to be fixed and as you might guess, was never totally satisfied with the work. Or the price. Or the work. Or the price. So after much cajoling, she dropped her van off to Kapanzhi with a record of the work that had been done thus far. The mechanic shook his head, told her the nasty truth (she'd been "slightly" ripped off by said dealer) and agreed to work with her on whatever repairs were necessary. My mom has now dropped her van off there twice and been supremely satisfied with both the work and the price of the work. They even let her pick her car up unannounced so she could get to a tennis match and then drop it back off again later and still completed the work that day. She most recently took it in because the check engine light came on and the car was bucking. They popped the hood while she was there, showed her exactly what little tiny piece was causing all of her woes and told her that they would fix it that day. Not only did they hold to that promise, they also saw her car was due for inspection and made sure that it passed inspection for her. Because my mother has been so happy with her switch to Kapanzhi, she asked me to spread the good word about them. Been driving for more than 45 and have used many different mechanics and Peter has by far been the most attentive and as honest a mechanic I've ever encountered. This review is long overdue as I've used his services for the last ten yrs for my and my family's cars. He'll do what's needed and not do what's not to pad a bill. He's even helped with a riding mower that got fouled by a heavy wire cable and we needed heavy tools to deal. Today, very cold temps, and my low pressure sensor was lit. I had my first experience with Peter Kapanzhi this week, and I was absolutely blown away. I had read the highly positive reviews on Yelp and elsewhere, and, having been seeking a good local mechanic ever since Ed Ebert sold his business and retired, I was hopeful. I took my 2008 Acura TSX 6 speed standard to Kapanzhi for an intermittent hesitation during acceleration. Previously, I had been to the local Acura dealer several times, as well as a private garage, and no one could find the source of the problem. I had even been told that it was due to a failing clutch. Peter test drove the car, could feel nothing wrong, but persisted. Based on previously encountering the same problem in another Acura, he felt pretty sure it was the electronic accelerator control in the pedal. He ordered and installed a new control, and voila! the problem is gone. Peter is not only clearly a first rate mechanic, but also a decent, honorable guy. He does not do billable work when it does not need to be done. He does not charge separately for a computer diagnosis if he subsequently does the work. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with him. He is very personable, takes the time needed to explain, and even has a good sense of humor. I cannot recommend Peter Kapanzhi highly enough. read more

Kapanzhi Auto has been terrific in servicing all of our cars, both domestic and German, for the last few years. Peter is a straight-shooter who is honest and fair. Just as an example, there have been times where the car dealership told us we needed things done that Peter said are not necessary, and of the things that did need to be fixed, Peter charges a fair price. Peter is so honest that he has even told us that he could make a repair, but that we should first go back to the dealership because it should have been under warranty and fixed for free by the dealer. I want to thank the others who took the time to review Kapanzhi -- your reviews made me take my car there for repair. I used to go to Toyota for everything, but it was always very expensive, a long drive, and I felt more was suggested than I really needed. So I started just getting my oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and getting maintenance much less often. Recently my brake lights on the back of my Sienna minivan went out. The side lights are easy to repair, but the back lights require more work. I made an appointment with Peter to get my brake lights repaired and asked him to replace my dashboard lights as well - only one of the dashboard lights still worked and Toyota told me it was an expensive repair because the lights were hard to get to. Peter replaced my brake lights- all four even though only two were out because it did not make sense to wait for the other two to go as I'd have to pay for them to get to the panel again. The cost to replace my dashboard & brake lights were significantly less than Toyota wanted for just the dashboard lights. Peter charged me for only 1/2 hour even though the book says it is a 1.8 hr job as that is all it took him. After I paid Peter for my car repairs, my wife asked Peter why it (recently) sounded like something was scraping the bottom of her Avalon at times.Peter looked under her car and told her the plastic cover had come loose. He suggested she leave it there an hour for him to get to it rather than drive around and risk having iit pulled off and have to buy a new cover from Toyota. When I came back for her car, Peter fixed the issue by fastening the cover on ---- but he wouldn't take any money. He is more than honest - he is kind. I recommended Peter to a friend who, like me, likes to fish. I told him I found a mechanic who is a fisherman (Peter has pictures of a striper and a black drum he caught from the surf on his office wall), but is also is great mechanic who is more than fair priced and will do an excellent job. read more
