Dr. Keller has been my Dermatologist since my previous one, Dr. Michael Franzblau (Greenbrae) became too far away to get to. In the 10-15 years I have been with Dr. Keller, she has treated my Psoriasis, a suspicious growth on my nose, the Seborrhea on my scalp, a suspicious mole, and redness on my face from Excema . I have had office visits only as needed, and I have found her practice very accommodating to my limited mobility (due to ms). She and her nursing staff are knowledgeable and professional, and seemingly caring. Despite it being a busy practice, they have taken time to deal with changes to prescriptions that turn out to be too expensive, to allow me to send photographs of a suspicious new mole for evaluation of urgency to be seen, and they always make me feel unforgotten even when I haven't needed to be seen in several years. Dr. Keller is aware of insurance coverage problems with the dermatology medications she might prescribe, and she has helped me navigate through insurance coverage problems. She has always treated me well, and makes me better informed and feel glad to be one of her patients. read more

When you first walk into Dr. Keller's office, you are greeted by staff that is pleasant and friendly. There's not a long wait time maybe five minutes at most. Once you get into see Dr. Keller, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, her procedures are very gentle, and I am a big sissy when it comes to needles. I'm a 73-year-old male who spent the 60s and 70s enjoying the sun at the southern California beaches, and at the baseball field and just enjoying the warmth of the sun, back in those days no one ever said to use sunscreen Never, no commercials telling you to cover up, everything was coconut oil, baby oil, or whatever else to sell to you, to try and make you tan/Red for three months out of the year. And then I noticed sores weren't healing on my face, especially on my nose cheeks ears, and I waited for years, giving myself excuses because I was all that in a bag of chips. I've been seeing Dr. Keller for a good 3 years and I really love her office when you go in there you feel like a KING, Dr. Keller is very knowledgeable, and very concerned about her patience, Dr. Keller's assistance are also very knowledgeable in their field to make sure everything goes perfect with your visit. I have to say my face looks better than it has in 10-15 years. The phone and front desk lady is the rudest person I have encountered at a medical office. With her attitude she should be working at the DMV office or perhaps Safeway. She would not let the patient talk, she jumps out of the call and puts you on hold in the middle of a sentence and has this "I am better than you" tone the entire call. As the other reviews say, the doctor is also extremely indifferent she has the attitude of a Bravo housewife, walking around on her Gucci tennis shoes looking down on her patients. She has zero empathy or bedside manners. If you want to pay a bunch of money and be treated terribly to be seen for 5 minutes and be told that it doesn't really matter what you have because everything is treated with one lotion then sure go here. read more

I have been going to doctor Keller and indyderm for several years. Though I shouldn't be amazed at this point though I am at the level of care that doctor Keller has for her patience. On more than one occasion I have emailed in a photograph of spot to see if I needed to be seen and on occasion doctor Keller herself will call back and discuss options. At all times I feel that doctor Keller is more concerned about my health than making money. Her level of compassion professionalism and friendliness exceeds by far what most people would expect from their doctor. I love Dr. Keller! I've had alopecia areata off and on going on 15 years. Dr. Keller is kind, caring, and compassionate not only in personality but in how she administers corticosteroids to my scalp to stop the hair loss and promote regrowth. About ten years ago, I switched to another health insurance provider that does not cover Dr. Keller. I tried a 'covered' dermatologist once for the injections, and never again! I would rather pay cash to Dr. Keller than go to a 'covered' dermatologist. My experience today proved that I was right! She is the best! I won't go anywhere else while I am fortunate enough to be able to afford to pay for this care out of pocket. read more

I would never recommend Dr. Keller to anybody. I'm not sure if she is incompetent or simply doesn't pay attention to her patients because she is too busy. I did not receive the right kind of treatment for my issue and her treatment caused an awful reaction. I went back to her to seek help once I had the reaction, but she was simply NOT helpful in resolving the issue. I ended up going to several different doctors to treat the issue. All in all, I regret going to her in the first place, and I have changed my Dermatologist since then. read more

i would give zero star if i could.my primary Doc referred myself to them for skin tag removal, i waited for a month to been seen. when i arrived checked in paid $40 bucks for co pay waited over 30mins and the first thing the Doc tells me is your insurance will not cover for the treatment, it will cost you $400 dollars out of pocket. and they knew that i was coming for skin tag, if they would tell me it will not be covered by most of the insurance i would have checked and if not cover i would not have to come in and paid $40 bucks just to know it will not be covered. all irresponsible staff, and they even blamed on my primary Doc should tell you it will not be covered. so disappointed and what a waste of time and energy. read more

Office staff was ALL I needed to talk to in order to understand what rude, non-professionalism looks like. Had an appointment for 3:15 and was told to show up at 3 to do paperwork, which I did. Filled it out, asked if Dr. was running "On Time", and was told "well your appointment is not until 3:45 anyway." I even kept my voicemail from their robot that also said it was supposed to be 3:15. Desk person said "NO, your appointment is at 3:45 ",and she continued to talk OVER me as if ANYTHING I had to say was NOT important. RUDE RUDE RUDE. I walked out and got ANOTHER dermatologist appointment with a well run front office. Dr Keller is the only dermatologist I know in the area and so have been going to her for the last 5-6 years (thankfully only occasionally when I have a skin problem). I have seen her service deteriorate significantly over the years. The first time I saw her for acne, I remember her spending time with me examining the problem and then giving me a long list of products to use. She also had an esthetician is her office who followed up with me later. Recently, I had the misfortune of seeing her twice --- once for my son's eczema, when we were referred to another doctor in the office after waiting an hour for her. The second time was for myself --- I managed to get an appointment after 3 weeks and waited 20 mins before I saw her from a distance for 2 mins. I mentioned one of the topical ointments that worked well for my acne is the past and she just prescribed that along with an antibiotic without examining anything. No recommendations for face wash or lotions. And, the office staff is horrible. They said that they were too busy to keep track of cancellations and let me know if anything opened up earlier. Though I was an old patient, I had to fill up the forms again because they were too lazy to get my file out of storage! It seems her business is more geared towards cosmetic dermatology, meaning botox, fillers and laser surgery. At least that's the feeling I got waiting in her office and watching the other patients. Dr. Keller is the best. She is a very caring doctor. Further, Dr. Keller and her staff at Peninsula Dermatology are SO helpful. From the front desk to billing to the doctors (I've seen her and Dr. Kay), everyone has a great attitude, they're incredibly efficient and they all work really hard. When I had some insurance issues, Dr. Keller and her staff helped me resolve them. I just honestly can't say enough about the fantastic service here. Dr. Keller's bedside manner could probably stand to improve a little. I agree with a couple of the other Yelpers when they say she gives off an air of indifference. I had to see her for allergies to dairy and this awful popped blood vessel on my chest. Her answers to my question were abrupt and to the point and during my appointment, it seemed like she was in a hurry or had somewhere more important to be. That's something I hate about doctors who take all kinds of insurance-they seem overworked and stressed out. She let her nurse do most of the work and was in and out of the examination room in less than 10 minutes. I waited over 20 minutes in the waiting room and about 10 minutes reading a magazine sitting on an exam table just to be in no better shape than when I first walked in. Great Dermotologist! I was hit by a car and my face was torn off and she helped get it looking better with her facial products and prescription for special cream. I just wish she had some later hours so I don't have to take off work. She saw my sister who had a mysterious foot scaly, dryness, pain thing going on. She gave her samples and it cleared up-my sister could not afford an expensive prescription (after I paid out of pocket for the visit. She is AWESOME! read more

Karen is solid. I called for an appointment to check out a mole/spot on my face and got an appt. within a week. I went at the time scheduled, within a few minutes of paying my co-pay, she came in and was very cordial and quickly assessed there was nothing to worry about but let me know she could remove it and send it in for analysis just to be certain. So she gave me a quick shot and a quick cut, and did not feel a thing. She asked me several times if i had any questions and let me know we would have lab results in a week and would call then. So i have to disagree with one of the previous reviews and say she was not that experience. It was short but sweet, so maybe she changed or that was a unique expience. read more

I found Dr Keller as a participating Dermatologist on my insurance plan. Since we are new to the area, I don't have a good resource for referrals, so I checked her out on YELP. I was a little cautious after reading the mixed reviews - some are great and some are not - almost as if the reviewers are talking about different doctors. I kept my appointment (for today), and went to it being prepared for the worst thinking that I could find another doctor if Dr Keller didn't work out. The office and building is older...nothing flashy or modern, but the location is super convenient to anyone in the Burlingame/Millbrae area or anyone coming from 101 or 280. The parking is FREE. The staff was fine - very efficient and to the point but not unfriendly at all. They were all very helpful which was also my impression on the phone when making my appointment. They are a busy medical practice, so efficiency is key...no small talk, but I didn't want or expect that. I was told to come in 15 minutes early for new patient paper work which all went efficiently, and I was taken back just before my actual appointment time. I only waited about 5 minutes until the Dr came in. She was friendly and engaging from the first minute. She listened and responded to each of my concerns. We even discussed in more detail several options for one of my issues. Never did I feel rushed. Checking out went smoothly. I was given some samples (without even asking) and a discount card for the medications I was prescribed. I will definitely go back and would recommend Dr Keller to anyone who is looking for a good, caring dermatologist. read more

Night and day compared to our other experience at a different dermatologist. Dr. Keller and her staff have been great communicators from the start! They are always willing to answer questions and return our calls promptly. Dr. Keller is knowledgeable and proactive - which is incredibly important for us, since my husband is taking Accutane. She makes everything PAINLESS (I have had acne cysts which she has injected several times), even had a couple of things "buzzed" off my nose and everytime I swear it was painLESS! She is very attentive at EVERY visit and VERY knowledgeable. I've seen her for tons of diff things (acne, eczema, etc) Her staff is great always helpful and very patient with me. Her manners were anything but nice and she subscribed a very expensive topical cream and offered no other assistance for my extreme case of psoriasis. I decided to go to a tanning salon which solved my problem after 3 months but I would never refer anyone to this doctor and I heard from another doctor that he also has heard bad reviews about dr. keller which didnt surprise me at all. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Keller for over 7 years now. I gone in for numerous reasons including a cyst, eye irritations due to allergies and most recently I took my son (age 9) and mother in law in to treat their rashes. Each visit has been a wonderful experience. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes. All of the office staff and nurses are always pleasant and helpful. Dr. Keller always provided me with all my options and gives me different samples to try out, in addition to prescriptions. Over the years, she has treated my family for a variety of ailments, and Dr. Keller always gets it right. Her recommendations are practical and wise. There are better dermatologists out there! I only went to her because she was the only dermatologist available at the time. That was three years ago. I've found a much better doctor since then. The first time I saw Dr. Keller, I waited 30 minutes after my appointment time. When I saw her, I told her I had eczema. Her response was "oh, there's no cure for that, here's a prescription." I wait 30 minutes and I'm done in 2 minutes? Over the period of three years, it was exactly the same. 30 minutes late and over and done with in less than 5 minutes. Ughhh for some reason I get the feeling she isn't interested in my problem. Never once was my prescription changed. My new dermatologist sat down with me and talked to me for about 15 minutes about my history and medications, as well as the available treatments for eczema. She even explained how staying on the same prescription for a period of time will make the treatment ineffective. Now this is the type of doctor I want taking care of me. Dr. Keller should be avoided, as I don't think she cares about her patients. read more

I have been going to Dr. Karen Keller for years for yearly mole checks. This year she discovered an area I wasn't even concerned about. She asked me how long I had it and I told her several months. She biopsied it and it came back positive for early skin cancer. I am so grateful to Dr. Keller for being so proactive. She is an awesome dermatologist and I trust her implicitly. Dr. Keller is friendly, efficient and very intelligent. I don't like going to the doctor, but I don't dread going to see her. I trust her implicitly. I don't go there for cosmetic procedures so can't comment there but she has always treated me exceptionally well. I have been seeing Doctor Keller for YEARS now.. since 2004. She is amazing. Debbie can come off rough around the edges but you just have to be nice to her and she will warm up. She is very sweet and easy to talk to. Tina is amazing as well. They fit me in last minute for a major Sun Burn when they were fully booked the day of. They always remember me and make me feel very welcomed. Doctor Keller is great. She sits down, asks questions, looks you in the eye, and is very caring and thorough. She can be intimidating because she is ridiculously pretty and it catches you off guard haha. However, she is a great doctor. She has helped me with several issues from veins on my legs, to scars on my face, and a severe sun burn. I live about an hour away and I refuse to change doctors, I will make the drive to continue to see her. read more

I am very disappointed with her practice. I have been a patient for 6 years and scheduled a Microdermabrasion Facial with her office. What they required was a $150 deposit to guarantee you "show up". I get that, but the morning of my appt for a procedure that was costing me approx. $400 I got a 24 hour stomach bug and was in no condition to go but to reschedule. When i called they told me I would be charged the deposit. I wasn't canceling, I was rescheduling. I was a patient for 6+ years. For them not to accommodate me - I literally wanted to come in the next day knowing it was a 24 hour bug - is very disappointing considering I am a valued patient for 6+ years, I refer friends, I wasn't canceling, and I was literally sick. Did they want me to come in and throw up on everyone? I was doing them a favor by rescheduling! They do not value their patients and I am out $150 (and they are out a patient and more$$$). read more

Wow! I'm surprised that Dr. Keller had any negative reviews at all. Almost everyone I know on the Peninsula goes to her and loves her. I've been seeing her for 10+ years and she has never been anything but caring and attentive and right on the mark with her treatments and I see her for regular dermatology and cosmetic stuff! I fly often to the SF bay area for business and her location near the airport is so convenient... I actually prefer Dr, Keller over any of the SoCal derms. The office staff there is top-notch and they have had the same people working there ever since I started going, so you know that is always a good sign. When I read the last post, I thought maybe the reviewer received negative attention from the office because she brought her "hyperactive toddler" who was bothering the patients and staff. I can't imagine trying to have a thorough doctor's exam so I don't bring my toddler with me to any of my own doctors appointments. Maybe that's what the problem was?
