I was in town working for a couple of weeks and came here a handful of times. Every single time I got the 'Meat Lover Skillet' but I added chorizo to it... cherry on top I tell ya! I was visiting the Antelope Valley from Santa Clarita, waiting for my daughter to complete the SAT at Quartz Hill HS, so this was my first visit to Karen's Kitchen #3. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by multiple staff members and invited to choose my table. It was December, and the restaurant had a cozy, welcoming vibe with tasteful holiday decorations that weren't overdone. The service was quick and attentive--the busboy promptly brought water and coffee, and my server arrived soon after. I ordered the California Skillet, which is my ideal breakfast: a little bit of everything! My meal arrived hot and fresh in less than 10 minutes and included eggs, bacon, potatoes, peppers, onions, avocado, tomato, and sour cream. I loved it! The eggs were over-medium, perfectly cooked with just the right runny yolk (I'm a sucker for that), while the potatoes, peppers, and onions were sautéed to perfection--not raw but also not overcooked. The avocado was bright and fresh, and the unexpected addition of diced tomato added a wonderful acidic touch that balanced the dish beautifully. I don't find myself in the Antelope Valley often, but when I do, I'll definitely return to Karen's Kitchen #3--and next time, I'm bringing my family! So in a nutshell, we went in the morning, the ambiance was lively without any wait time. The coffee was fresh and we were constantly getting topped off. We each took our first bite and agreed this Karen's Kitchen figured it out. The food was hot, the ingredients tasted fresh, and their service was outstanding. We appreciate that we were not limited to menu items just because it was morning. Recommend this spot if you are looking for a great breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. We went in not expecting much because it was empty in there, but let me tell you.... First off, the customer service was great. She even offered to give us cups to go for our drinks and was very sweet. Now, the food was not what we were expecting. Right off the bat, it was a huge portion of food for both of us. I've eaten here quite a few times and it's located conveniently in the Vons Shopping Center on W. Avenue L. I took my daughter and son in law out for breakfast for her birthday. My daughter and son in law enjoyed their food. Pancakes and waffles. No complaints. I ordered an egg over easy and 1 biscuit and gravy. Eggs were cooked to order and came hot and the biscuit and gravy came to the table and the gravy was hot and good but the biscuit was stale!!! I told the waiter who was nice and attentive my biscuit was stale and I was told "oh yea, they are made fresh but if we don't sell them all, we use them up the next day"! DO NOT SELL CUSTOMERS STALE FOOD! I could tell the moment I took a bite, the biscuit wasn't fresh. I know everyone is trying to stay afloat in this economy but I'd rather pay more for fresh and quality food than be given stale old biscuits. For this reason, I won't be back. There are other restaurants in town I can go to and get fresh food. I don't have any photos but the place has a homey feel to it but my 60.00 is better spent elsewhere where I don't get stale food. read more
