An Indian & Nepali spread of deliciousness-Mutton Thali Set, Veg Samosas, Steamed & & Fried Veg Jhol Momos, Garlic Naan, and Butter Chicken
    Deniece W.

If I can find a Nepali restaurant, especially in a town I don't expect to find one, I gotta try it. Nepali food is one of my favorite kinds of foods! The friends I was staying with had never had Indian or Nepali food, so we ordered a bunch of things to try. I was quite pleased with the mutton thali set. I ordered it medium spicy and it had a nice kick. Between the fried and steamed veggie momos, I liked the fried ones better but they were both good. I thought the johl was a little bland but still tasty. I didn't try any of the Indian food, as my one and only goal was to eat Nepali food, but my friends left no traces of their butter chicken, garlic naan, and veggie samosas. My friends said they can't wait to eat here again. I hope I get to try more of Karki's Nepali menu the next time I'm back in Grand Rapids.

My friend's mom is a teacher and one of her former students owns this place! I haven't had Nepali food in a while, so it was a great experience. Reminded me of when our Nepali friends and their mom fed us 4 full, gigantic plates each of delicious food in college. :) I don't know what the complimentary app was called, but it was like a large, thin, crispy chip served with two different dipping sauces. These are the items we ordered: PANI PURI: Street food consisting of crispy, hollow, fried dough balls (puri) stuffed with boiled or steamed potatoes and/or other ingredients (sprouts, chickpeas) served with tangy water (pani) with mint. This is not a hot dish, FYI! The liquid is cold. You make a hole in the puri and fill it with the other ingredients. GARLIC NAAN: Great for dipping in your vindaloo! CHICKEN THUPKA: Noodle soup with potatoes, garlic, ginger, onion, cilantro, green chickpeas (kala chana), and spices. PORK SAKWA: Arrived (audibly) sizzling hot. Loved how thick, seasoned, and fatty the pieces were. Comes with some cucumber, carrot, and onion as well. GOAT VINDALOO: Curry dish with chili, vinegar, garlic, and potatoes served with rice. Remember to separate the bones from the meat before biting into a piece! The food and service were great, and the owner even placed the items on the table in a way to purposefully make photo taking easier for me haha.

    Garlic Naan

The food was amazing! I love the idea of the Thali set so you can try a variety of things. Everything was so flavorful. This was definitely enough to feed 2 people. Chicken Momo (steamed): 9/10 They were very good and flavorful (a curry flavor). The sauce didn't really taste like much but I like dipping into the curry from the Thali Set. Definitely a must try from the menu. Chicken Thali Set: 8.5/10 This platter was amazing! I love trying all the different things on the platter and I definitely think this is something to get if you want to try a bunch of different items at once! (Definitely get to share!) Garlic Naan: 10/10 I love the garlic naan with all the different curries! Mango Lassi: 8/10 Was very good for the price, you can definitely taste the yogurt. The service was great! The lady there was very nice, but can be a little bit slow. When I first came in they did tell me to sit anywhere so if no one is at the front that's what I would assume people would usually do. The ambiance was nice. I love the decor and the music playing in the back. It was also not crowded at all for a Monday afternoon. Overall I would suggest if you are looking for new ethnic foods to try! I think anyone could definitely enjoy this!

Hyderabadi Chicken Curry With Rice Classic curry chicken Chicken 65

1 Classic curry chicken(hot) 1 Hyderabadi chicken curry(hot) 1 Chicken 65(mild) 1 garlic naan Total $58 I order dinner for my family online on Yelp app which was quick and easy. Delivery time estimated 35-55 which was spot on! First thing i noticed was the portion sizes looked tad small to me and the classic curry chicken was a little overcooked; But the sauce was amazing! The Hyderabadi curry was cooked the same but their version was a little better mostly because the tender peppers added a ton of more flavor to the dish. I ordered both hot on the spice scale which I was very disappointed, it was mild at most! The chicken 65 was the star of the meal; tender juicy breaded chunks of chicken in a very spicy flavorful sauce. I was very surprised how spicy it was since I ordered medium for the kids, but the kids took it as a challenge and after a ton of garlic naan and Gatorade they enjoyed the dish and finished with a smile!

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for something a little different and stopped in here. Ambiance is lacking but the food and service make up for it. We split the samosas and really enjoyed these. I got a Nepali plate which I choose because I wanted to sample a little bit of everything. It came with rice, veggie salad, veggie curry, daal and chicken curry. Also came with yogurt, naan (not pictured) papadum (?), spinach and rice pudding-like dessert. The flavors were superb and I would come back. There is also an extensive menu of more traditional Indian dishes.

Extensive menu of vegetarian and non-veggie options. We stopped there on a Sunday afternoon and were the lone diners. Our server was very helpful and friendly in explaining the menu options. The portion sizes were very generous. My briyani was two meals for sure. Lots of flavor and enough spice to keep me on my toes but not overwhelming. It was a very good experience!

Food and service was excellent. It was my first time eating Nepalese / Himalayan dishes and it didn't disappoint! How we were supposed to eat and put together the pani puri was unexpected, but a good mealtime activity nonetheless that felt authentic. They also have decent vegetarian options, and the prices are quite reasonable!

I rented a room and day membership for $51.00 What blew my mind is when I asked for a fresh towel, as mine was damp from the shower, I was informed it would a $1.00 more! I thought it was a joke as I've never had this happen before at any bathhouse. Sad but true, there policy is to charge an extra dollar for every towel exchanged. After spending 51.00 they want more! I found this very small minded. Additionally every tv was playing a 1980's vintage porno! One TV screen was frozen. Another in the sling room not working at all. With all the streaming options available today at least stream a current movie for the enjoyment of your patrons, not some throwback to the 1980.'s. Room was dirty and featured a tv with no remote so one could not adjust volume or channel. Sling room was pathetic. Owner obviously doesn't know how to hang a sling properly for the enjoyment of the guy in it. I did speak to the attendant about these concerns and unfortunately, he took it personally which I told him it was not intended to be. I just told him that for what they are charging and then providing it is definitely not worth it. Especially the fresh towel additional charge. The attendant was very polite and kind. I realized that it's not the attendant who makes the policy but the owner. Overall, I was very disappointed in this place. I feel bad for the people in Grand Rapids that this is the only outlet they have to meet others in a safe environment. Drive the three hours to Chicago or two hours to Detroit and visiting a real private men's club would be advisable. When compared to places like Steam Works, Club, Fort Lauderdale, and even Club Columbus, this place falls very short.

FOOD: I went with an olive burger with be try fresh and real ingredients. The burger itself was full of flavor; add the rest of it and it was phenomenal. If I had to complain about something, I could have used a touch more olive sauce. Now the egg roll... I went with the "Guava the Hutt". I'll just say, I ordered two to go in hopes I can resurrect them in the air fryer later. The back half of the building is a pickleball area and the front half is the brewery and restaurant. Very cool look as they have a few shipping containers as sitting areas. Plenty of seating where I didn't feel jammed in. Also, a few arcade games. The service was friendly but know that it is minimal as you will order from the QR code at your table and order drinks at the bar. Definitely worth checking out and plan on returning.
