Ordered take out so this is just a review for take out. Inside is small, dark, a bit musty smelling. - paneer tikka masala was amazing, great paneer, the sauce flavor was great. However their online ordering states veggies are in it and there were none in the take out container - beware that chicken tikka listed on the online menu is not the same as chicken tikka masala! We still ate it - good variety of veggies- but it has a strong numbing spicy sensation even when ordered as mild. - garlic naan that costs $4 for one piece(!!) was plain naan when we got it. Pros: Chicken Kadhai was good Cons: Ordered online & didn't get half of what we ordered (they were out), flavors were so-so, the dessert was most definitely not what I ordered & looked thrown together (tasted awful) I was so excited to find a restaurant that had pani puri, chicken manchurian, and kheer. I put in an online lunch order for these as well as ras malai, and chicken kadhai and chicken fried rice for my husband (the menu noted it's their specialty). The restaurant called as my husband was pulling in and they were out of my two appetizers and the kheer dessert (my whole meal). We didn't want to cancel on them so I figured I would share his. The kadhai was very good -the meat was tender and the sauce was delish. The portion, for the price, was a bit steep. Maybe a scant cup of meat, a cup of sauce, and a cup and a half of rice for $15 -no sides or bread. The chicken fried rice wasn't great. Salt helped, but it was maybe a 5/10. The ras malai was really, really off-putting. I worried at one point that the balls were actually styrofoam and not food. Further, they were not in a cardamom condensed milk -they were in plain sugar syrup and they were definitely not cottage cheese patties. I checked against the website to ensure they didn't prepare them a different way -I think, perhaps, they were out of that item as well and threw a few things together. It was, really, really bad. I would probably not try again -from being out of half our food to us only liking one item, too costly and too much of a risk. read more

I chose the spot because I wanted to try some new foods (and we are not locals). I didn't know they are only takeout now, though they let us stay to dine in! So kind. We were the only ones there, so it was very quiet, and only a couple people came in for takeout. We wanted to try a sampler type meal, but they were out. Their samosas came out hot and filled beautifully, so crisp and delish. We meant to get a soup, but it got missed on our ticket. Still, the chapati was so good with the rice and paneer Tikka masala (though the color was shocking!). I loved my tea and hubs had a (shockingly bright colored) mango lassi. If I can find a Nepali restaurant, especially in a town I don't expect to find one, I gotta try it. Nepali food is one of my favorite kinds of foods! The friends I was staying with had never had Indian or Nepali food, so we ordered a bunch of things to try. I was quite pleased with the mutton thali set. I ordered it medium spicy and it had a nice kick. Between the fried and steamed veggie momos, I liked the fried ones better but they were both good. I thought the johl was a little bland but still tasty. I didn't try any of the Indian food, as my one and only goal was to eat Nepali food, but my friends left no traces of their butter chicken, garlic naan, and veggie samosas. My friends said they can't wait to eat here again. I hope I get to try more of Karki's Nepali menu the next time I'm back in Grand Rapids. read more

My friend's mom is a teacher and one of her former students owns this place! I haven't had Nepali food in a while, so it was a great experience. Reminded me of when our Nepali friends and their mom fed us 4 full, gigantic plates each of delicious food in college. :) I don't know what the complimentary app was called, but it was like a large, thin, crispy chip served with two different dipping sauces. These are the items we ordered: PANI PURI: Street food consisting of crispy, hollow, fried dough balls (puri) stuffed with boiled or steamed potatoes and/or other ingredients (sprouts, chickpeas) served with tangy water (pani) with mint. This is not a hot dish, FYI! The liquid is cold. You make a hole in the puri and fill it with the other ingredients. GARLIC NAAN: Great for dipping in your vindaloo! CHICKEN THUPKA: Noodle soup with potatoes, garlic, ginger, onion, cilantro, green chickpeas (kala chana), and spices. PORK SAKWA: Arrived (audibly) sizzling hot. Loved how thick, seasoned, and fatty the pieces were. Comes with some cucumber, carrot, and onion as well. GOAT VINDALOO: Curry dish with chili, vinegar, garlic, and potatoes served with rice. Remember to separate the bones from the meat before biting into a piece! The food and service were great, and the owner even placed the items on the table in a way to purposefully make photo taking easier for me haha. read more

The food was amazing! I love the idea of the Thali set so you can try a variety of things. Everything was so flavorful. This was definitely enough to feed 2 people. Chicken Momo (steamed): 9/10 They were very good and flavorful (a curry flavor). The sauce didn't really taste like much but I like dipping into the curry from the Thali Set. Definitely a must try from the menu. Chicken Thali Set: 8.5/10 This platter was amazing! I love trying all the different things on the platter and I definitely think this is something to get if you want to try a bunch of different items at once! (Definitely get to share!) Garlic Naan: 10/10 I love the garlic naan with all the different curries! Mango Lassi: 8/10 Was very good for the price, you can definitely taste the yogurt. The service was great! The lady there was very nice, but can be a little bit slow. When I first came in they did tell me to sit anywhere so if no one is at the front that's what I would assume people would usually do. The ambiance was nice. I love the decor and the music playing in the back. It was also not crowded at all for a Monday afternoon. I love momos, so when I saw this restaurant I had to try it. The restaurant is attached to a grocery store, it's not the most picturesque restaurant but it was clean. I went there with a group of friend and we ordered momos - veg and chicken and chili chicken. The momos were really good, especially the chicken. The chili chicken was also really good. For dinner I had the pindi chana with onion kulcha, I ordered medium but it was not spicy. A friend of mine ordered briyani hot level and after trying that I didn't find it to be too spicy either. Everyone enjoyed their food. The waiter was also super friendly, he did forget to put in one of our orders and was very apologetic for it. I will definitely be going back and try something different as well as checking out the grocery store next door. And if you haven't tried momos I would seriously recommend doing that ASAP!! read more

Delivery time estimated 35-55 which was spot on! First thing i noticed was the portion sizes looked tad small to me and the classic curry chicken was a little overcooked; But the sauce was amazing! The Hyderabadi curry was cooked the same but their version was a little better mostly because the tender peppers added a ton of more flavor to the dish. I ordered both hot on the spice scale which I was very disappointed, it was mild at most! The chicken 65 was the star of the meal; tender juicy breaded chunks of chicken in a very spicy flavorful sauce. I was very surprised how spicy it was since I ordered medium for the kids, but the kids took it as a challenge and after a ton of garlic naan and Gatorade they enjoyed the dish and finished with a smile! read more

We had both Peshawari Naan and Onion Kulcha which were both excellent! As an appetizer we had Chicken Momo (steamed) which was good and the spicy sauce was flavorful. I ordered the Goat Fried rice with a medium spice level but it came out with no spiciness at all. The server provided me a side dish of spice when I mentioned this. The goat meat was dry and chewy, so definitely a miss on this for dinner. Other dishes we ordered were mutton biryani which tasted good and chicken thukpa which was very good. We were there for lunch on a Wednesday, and it was uncrowded. Seriously!?? The venue has easy parking, it's very clean and has a lot of charm - and the food was delicious! This place should be very very crowded. I got a chicken Thali, it was beautiful and absolutely delicious, only complaint was I asked for medium spice, and there was zero spice, lots of flavor but no heat - but western Michigan ... I'm sure lots of people think a sprinkle of black pepper = spice, so if you want the real deal you might need to be more convincing than I was. read more

I ordered our takeout online. I never got a text saying the food was ready. I ordered at 4:40pm and it said 15-25 minutes. I left at 4:55 to see if it was ready (I'm literally 2 miles down the road), and when I got the food home it was not very warm. When I walked in the place, a doorbell rang. There was one couple sitting at a table, yet it took several minutes before someone came out of the kitchen to see why the doorbell rang. Then he just looked at me and walked back into the kitchen without a word. There was also a fork and spoon in the bag even though I requested no utensils. I like to support small businesses, but not if there's no courtesy or communication. The ambiance in the place was really non-existent. It was a room with a counter at the back and a bunch of tables. It just looked like a little dive of a restaurant, although I realize some of those dives can be real gems when it comes to their food. This one doesn't qualify in that respect. I ordered the Vegetable Jalfrezi, which was pretty tasty, the vegetable samosa (bland and kind of mushy inside yet crispy on the outside). I suspect they just order them premade from Sysco or somewhere and just throw them in the deep fryer. My son ordered the Vegetable Thukpa, which was a bowl of noodles and some veggies in a broth. It was very spicy, even though he ordered it mild, yet lacked flavor. He said he wouldn't order it again. Overall, I would rate it just average. They have a long way to go to even get to the level of the Indian restaurant across the street from them, which has excellent customer service and much better ambiance. I might try a few more things on their menu, but only because I like trying the cuisine from different countries. read more

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for something a little different and stopped in here. Ambiance is lacking but the food and service make up for it. We split the samosas and really enjoyed these. I got a Nepali plate which I choose because I wanted to sample a little bit of everything. It came with rice, veggie salad, veggie curry, daal and chicken curry. The vindaloo was good, but had several pieces of bone in it, so just be aware of that. The chicken tikka had excellent flavor; you got a nice smoky flavor, but it was really quite dry which I didn't mind, but also be aware of that. The food is good here. Although, a little pricey in my opinion. I've tried several menu items here from the Indian to the Nepalese and the food has been delicious. The flavors in the food are amazing. Although, on a couple of instances, I feel the food could have been better. For instance, one time my take-out tasted like they were noodles prepared from the day before and just warmed up and another time I ordered Goat Curry and the majority of the meat were chunks of fat, not my preference, and was not like that the time before. Furthermore, the service is friendly, but I wouldn't expect the best service in a small restaurant like this. Overall, the food is good here and is a gem of a place. read more

Finding a place that the whole family will enjoy has been a little harder since I've become vegetarian. Karki had several vegetarian options so we decided to give it a try. My family loves Indian food, but we had never tried Nepalese food so I was curious. I ordered the vegetable momo & the Vegetable thukpa. They were both really good, especially the thukpa. I think it may be my new favorite soup. The rest of the family ordered the chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo. They both enjoyed their meals too. We'll definitely be back. read more
