Both Karl Jr and Sr. and Janine the office manager are professional, friendly and offer fair prices. All of them are able to chat with you about any mechanical problem you might have and if Karl isn't sure of the problem he'll go test drive it with you. When I first came in looking for an estimate on a costly repair another shop had told me I needed, they said the rack didn't need replacing and the slight shimmy in the front end was a brake rotor wear problem. They didn't even charge me for the trouble-shooting. Been a customer ever since. They're not going to try to upsell you and tack-on battery, wipers, fancy flushes or repairs you don't need. If they have time and you're a regular customer and stop in with a flat or other quick problem to solve they usually can accommodate you or provide you with a timely date they can get to it. Or they'll tell you the repair could wait another month or two and then bring it in. Like most service places you need to call ahead and expect to wait a week or so for an appointment that may take the better part of the day to repair. You will probaby need to leave your car there for the day but if it's something quick you can wait for it. We have been taking our cars to Karl's for a few years now, we had breaks done on my wife's car back in 2019, wife noticed that the breaks were pulsating on breaking. Took the car back to Karl's, they said the rotors were warped and needed replacement. The rotors were out of warranty by 5 days. Karl replaced them for free, didn't even charge labor. Use service twice.....overcharged. Not as friendly as everyone keeps telling me. The older Karl or father obviously comes from an older school 1950's/60's mentality doesn't seem to really care to work with people that don't look like him. He took that run down building and has transformed it from an eye sore, and it has absolutely impacted the immediate commercial area around it. Yesterday I reached out regarding an emergency car situation for a friend from out of town. Quite a individuals recommended Karl's in Batavia. We called him, dropped off the car where they preformed diagnostics and not only found the problem but took it one step further. Karl's found out that the problem was under warranty with Volkswagen, called Fox Valley VW, (who previously did not have availability due to such high demand in repairs since their mechanics are not on strike), explained to them situation and arranged to get the car to take precedent. He called my friend explaining that he could repair the car but did not want to charge her and didn't, let her know that it would be covered by Volkswagen and the arrangements he made with Fox Valley where her car is being taken care of for a safe journey home Monday. He tells me what needs to be fixed now and what to keep on my radar to avoid problems in the future. Karl is a very highly skilled mechanic who is also able to explain a vehicle's problem to the average person. He got the brakes on my 120,000 mile Hyundai working like new, after other mechanics were not able to. He also solved an intermittent starting problem with a correct diagnose of a faulty crank sensor. The other mechanics could not determine the problem.
