TL;DR - Basically, our application got rejected, but they ghosted me until I reached out a 3rd time, 5 days later. That's when I found out we were rejected, because they don't think people with new babies should adopt a dog. I reached out, because we were interested in adopting a dog, after our old man dog passed. Followed up with a text within the day, just to see if the dog we wanted was still available. Was told over text that they'd get back to us soon. Well, 5 days elapsed, and I heard nothing about our application. I reached out via email to ask if the dog we wanted was just gone. At that point, I get a terse email saying, "Will you prefer not to adopt dogs to people with brand new babies. A new baby is so much work. Our experience has been that people often return and adopted dog because it's too much work. We highly recommend you wait for a couple of years." I respond: That's not gonna happen. I suffered from allergies, and while it's not a proven hypothesis, there's evidence to show that animal exposure at a young age can help mitigate allergies. And we have a nanny during the weekdays. You could have told me you didn't want to consider us, instead of just ignoring me. A little 'tude-y? Sure. But finding the right dog has been a frustrating process, and getting ghosted by an agency that says they're responsive is rude. Then she gaslights me by saying "You could've responded in a nicer way and we probably would've talked with you." And I call bullshit: So you reject our application, but don't tell us until I reach out for a 3rd time. And at that time tell us it's because you don't think people with babies should adopt dogs, but it's somehow my fault for being annoyed? You have a right to your opinion, and I'm sure it's frustrating dealing with people who can't stick to their commitments, but the least you could have done was respond. You closed the conversation, not me. Adoption is already a hard process, especially now that our family has more requirements. The least a standalone agency can do is be responsive, transparent, and honestly, less judgy. Getting ignored and rejected without a conversation, and a blanket rejection based on what our family looks like was shocking to me. read more

Second, they gave us the time we needed to get to know the dog and make sure that he was the right fit for us. There was no pressure at all. Such an amazing rescue. We unfortunately lost our aged rescue July 9. We figured it would take some time and be difficult to find a similar breed rescue and we didn't have to wait long. We adopted Picasso (we named him Sammy) on July 16 and he is amazing. He was obviously very well taken care of and trained by his foster. We are so blessed and couldn't have asked for a better dog. 100% of that is due to this amazing rescue group for saving him and training him. Adopt don't shop!!!! I just wanted to let you know that these people train the dogs to only go potty on walks, not to potty in your backyard. If you have a backyard and expect your new dog to potty in the backyard then you can forget about it. There are times you need your dog to go pee in the backyard because it's faster and easier at the time. Going for a walk every time the dog has to go potty is not realistic. I have had dogs all my 60yrs. Never have I had a dog that didn't go potty in my backyard, or side yard, or even in the front yard. Most dogs need to go pee every hour to 2. Just be aware of how the dog has been trained before you agree to adopting a dog from Karmic Rescue. I realized it way to late and lost my deposit. Just FYI. read more

Adopting from Karmic was the single best decision I've ever made. My husband and I lost our 80lb husky mix in 2019. He'd had her for 12 years and we were crushed. After a year of grieving her (and also losing my mother in 2019) we decided we were ready for another pup. Unfortunately we found ourselves turned away by every rescue in our area. Despite our years of experience with a high energy breed and successfully exercising her while living in an apartment, every single rescue immediately disqualified us from adopting because we did not have a fenced yard. We told every rescue we planned to spend 2-4 hours a day exercising a new pup and had the schedules to accommodate it but it didn't matter. The shelters couldn't hold onto dogs long enough for us to meet them as it was the lonely quarantine summer and adoptions were high. Finally!! After months of looking, we found Karmic which promised that not having a yard or not working from home wouldn't disqualify anyone from adopting. That they wanted dogs in good homes and good homes came in all sizes and types. We drove from Long Beach to San Diego to meet Zuko and, though he was very shy and scared, we took him home that day. I can confidently say, without any exaggeration, that Zuko is my actual dog soul mate. He is the reason I get up. He is the reason I work. He is the light of our household and the envy of our friends. We go to the dog park every day and have made so many friends we would have never met otherwise. Virginia, Zuko's Karmic foster mom, is hands down the sweetest, kindest, most invested foster mom. She did not hesitate to send us all of Zuko's baby photos. She nurtured him through 2 bouts of distemper. And she continued to check in with us after the adoption to make sure it was still a good fit. I've been so happy to share all of my favorite photos of Zuko with her and her family. Virginia is truly an angel on earth giving street dogs a second chance and putting them in loving homes. I can't wait to get into a bigger home so we can add another puppy to our little family. I am happy to commute to San Diego and can't wait to rescue from Karmic again! read more

This organization has many dogs to take care of but you can tell they put in the best effort in caring, training, and finding the best homes for each dog. They're quick to respond, reliable and have designated meet ups or can come to you. I applied on a Friday and they followed up right away. We scheduled a meet up the following day. Many rescues disqualify you for working full time or if you don't WFH but not Karmic. They understand peoples different schedules and take the time to get to know the potential adopter and take the time to answer your questions and support you even after you take your dog home. I was lucky enough to adopt such a friendly, well behaved pup formerly Alan, now Leo this past April. :) thank you karmic rescue for providing me with my best friend. My husband and I adopted a 1 1/2 yo dog three weeks ago from Karmic Rescue. She is the best dog; we could not have had a better dog join our family.
