We could not be more grateful to have found Fernando. After our other Doxie passed, our grieving turned into spoiling our other doxie (Indiana) quite a bit. We had a in-home consultation with Fernando way back in November 2021. We contacted him through the website and he texted and called us to schedule the in-home consultation. We did pay a fee as we were far from where he normally works from. He communicated that with us prior to the consultation. Our German Shepard was experiencing some serious leash reactivity around other dogs and a couple of other issues. When he arrived he took his time to observe how our German Shepard behaved. He asked us a lot of questions and we discussed the issues our dog was experiencing. We took the dog on walk around the neighborhood with Fernando there to observe. We did encounter another dog and he recorded the interaction. During the walk Fernando pointed out all sorts of things our dog was doing and the reason why he was doing those things. Eventually we headed back home. There Fernando played the video back and give us detailed information on what our dog was doing and why. I credit Fernando for being honest and transparent with us. He told us that the best option for our dog was either a board and train program or consultation with a dog behaviorist as our dog's issues needed that extra attention that he wasn't able to give us. Even though he was not able to solve our dog's issues, he did point us to a reputable board and train group and behaviorist. I was disappointed that he was not going to be able to solve our dog's multiple issues but was happy that he was able to provide us with so much information during our consultation. Over the years, I've come into contact with more than a few dog trainers and Fernando is, by far and without a doubt, the very best. The moment he stepped into my backyard and met my Bosco, I knew he was different, just not how different, but, man o man, did Bosco knew. The story goes... A man packs his bags for a business trip, kisses his girlfriend goodbye, asks her to be safe, lock the doors and walks out the door. I recently adopted (end of January) a 5 year old terrier mix that I named Carlo. He's a sweet boy but unfortunately suffers from separation anxiety. Fernando is awesome! Last January, I rescued my dachshund Miles at 6 months old. He was very sweet and extremely affectionate with my mother and I, but would bark and lunge at my dad and other visitors. On August 2, Fernando the Canine Educator came to our home for a donated 1-hour initial training session to help our new rescue dog, Lola, get acquainted and settled into her new life. Fernando arrived on time as scheduled and pleasantly knocked at the door. (He was also very prompt and responsive in our text and phone messages when setting up the initial appointment.) He arrived carrying his training bag and wearing his training shirt and hat; I appreciated the professionalism right off the bat. Fernando introduced himself to us and then he met Lola our dog. He came across as knowledgeable about our dog's breed, asking questions and providing feedback and suggestions as to her grooming, her food, etc. He also appeared skilled and comfortable in handling our dog, in guiding her, and in giving her direction. In the one-hour session, we covered methods for training our dog on how to choose to ask for permission from us before exiting her crate, how to learn to look to us as her leaders for requests/direction/approval, how to encourage her to choose to go to her bed instead of sitting by the table when we are eating, and other behaviors. We liked Fernando's training theory that to instill positive behaviors, the goal is to encourage the dog to want to choose the desired behaviors of looking to us for approval through positive reinforcement. (One piece of constructive feedback/suggestion though is that it would've been neat to first hear a bit about the training theory at the very start of the session before diving into the training itself.) My husband and I became foster parents to 2 dogs rescued through Passion for Pitties (P4P) Rescue in San Diego. We were put in touch with Fernando & Canine Education through P4P to help us set dogs up for success and learn about lead training, which we were previously not accustomed to. For first time owners of a new puppy, Fernando was a godsend to me and my wife. We adopted our little guy from the Barking Lot in El Cajon and Fernando's Canine Education information was included. He offered a complimentary leash lesson which was educational for both us and our dog. Honestly, it was a bit like the Dog Whisperer in that he framed the whole experience as a lesson for all involved, and not merely a "I'm your master, you're my dog" type of relationship. We purchased a month's worth of weekly dog walks and also had additional dog park lesson. He is honest and constructive in his assessment of both you and your dog, which gave me plenty of motivation to constantly improve on my interactions with my little guy.
