Solid work from solid, honest people! These folks actually care about their customers and it shows in both the quality of work, and the way you're treated in the office. I was on a military move from east to west coast in the middle of a heat wave with a ruptured AC hose. Our animals were absolutely dying in the car and could not have made the trip across the rest of the country. I had a very limited time to be in Groton and they understood that. They rush ordered two parts from two separate suppliers to ensure one of them made it in time. When one of the bolts broke off of the condenser during the repair, they could have just pulled a replaced the condenser. That's not what they did. I saw this man slaving away in the heat, dripping sweat, pulling the bolt out and retapping to avoid having to change out my condenser and potentially tripling the price. They knew what I was doing, where I was going and that they would probably never see them again. They could have easily taken advantage of my situation, but they did exactly the opposite. They made it their mission to to help us, and they were going to make it happen...while balancing a more than full workload of other customers. We were back on the road ahead of our deadline and I can't thank them enough! This place has a solid reputation for a reason and their people have values that seem to be all but lost in todays auto repair world. I could never recommend them highly enough! read more

I recently brought my 2007 Corvette Z06 in to Karns Auto as it was misfiring. After speaking with Beth (who is cool as they come, polite and courteous) and explaining her my situation, she got me on the schedule. My Corvette does NOT see rain and it was supposed to rain the day of my appointment. Beth and Jeff assured me that my Z06 would be left in the shop overnight. I brought my Z06 in the evening before my appointment and Jeff said he would take a look and see what it may need and that he would stay late if he could get the parts. Approximately 20 minutes later, Jeff contacted me and said my Corvette was finished. Customer care and service? Yup. At its BEST! Jeff, Beth and crew are the finest as they all know how particular I am about my Corvette. Jeff is honest and cares about his customers. He made me a happy kid that day and I didn't have to drive my Z06 home in the rain the next day after my appointment. Jeff is honest and treats his customers with respect. In the past Karnes has provided excellent service, but since day one I've been having issues with a check engine light. They addressed all the other small issues but my one major complaint about the light. Last time I had it in they held it for over 3 weeks and still did not address the problem. Just took my truck to another mechanic and he found the problem in 20 minutes. Unfortunately I will not be able to hold on to this vehicle any longer.Something that Karnes should have been able to tell me. Instead they nickel and dime me and keep me coming back only to say they "took it for a ride" and couldn't figure it out. They said take it to the dealership if it continues. Really? Never again guys. They have one less loyal customer now. read more

Probably the most honest group of mechanics I have met. Took the truck in on a Friday the changed my upper control arm. Turns out that it was not the problem. Monday they figured out I needed a new strut. Changed both of the out and did it fast and at a great price. The truck is better then ever. They did not even charge me for the first uppper control arm change. These guys embody honesty and have amazing customer service. They just earned a customer for life. Thanks Karns. Much appreciated. Karns has saved my butt more than once. I trust them to do it right and for a fair price. I had them fix an axle seal, fix brakes, and install a new muffler. Only thing that wasn't perfect was the muffler and Jeff made it right with no extra charge. read more

Jeff is straight up with you. Tells you what you need done completely and what you need done to get back on the road. Never tries to push you to the more expensive route. He is genuinely interested in getting your vehicle fixed and not just making money. Now with that said, his price is a little higher than say, Midas or Meineke. Had some mechanical work done to Volkswagon Jetta. Front brakes needed replacing and requested transmission evaluation due to low-gear slippage. Competed brakes quickly and stated there was nothing wrong with transmission. Indicated that their test drive was too short and that they should drive the car for longer duration. Finally felt the low-gear slippage and stated they would determine estimate of parts and labor and get back to me. The vehicle was taken from shop as it was needed. Never heard from them and had to call repeatedly for estimate. But he time it was provided, decided their focus was to repairing vehicles that required relatively quick and easy repairs- higher turnover equals larger profit. Can't say enough about how great this shop is! Jeff replaced a leaky exhaust manifold on my truck. Within a month the new manifold warped and began leaking. I called Jeff and explained the situation, he quickly rescheduled a followup appointment and replaced the defective part. He and his staff stayed late to ensure that the job was complete. BIG thanks to the guys (and girl!) at Karns automotive. I got my car stuck on a median in a snowstorm, after which it started doing the "wobble of death" on my way back home to RI. A Groton local recommended the place, and they were kind enough to fit time in their busy schedule to take a look at my car on the spot. The Karns across from base is amazing. It took a little while for my van to get fixed buy I was okay with that. They were really busy but know what they are doing. They didn't degrade me because I was a woman asking questions. Jeff is awesome and searched for a clock spring for my van which he wasn't able to get but he took the time to actually look which is a plus in my book. Very friendly and nice. The shop on Mitchell St. stay away! I wanted my front calipers rotors and brake shoes and 1 brake line changed along with my shocks. I was quoted $850. I picked up my truck he told me I didn't need shocks but he had changed 2 other items that I did need. And the cost would be $1000! Stay away! read more
