Incredibly delish and creative ramen and tsukemen! We come here every time for dinner when we make a trip to the beach in OC, it just wraps up the day trip on the right note. I love their tsukemen - it's so balanced, not overly heavy or greasy With thick bouncy noodles. I also love their scallop ramen when in season, and their half scallop half paitan ramen. Came here for a late dinner with my friends, and we all tried different things. I got the spicy ramen with straight noodles and level 2 spice, which had a really good kick. The broth was flavorful, and I especially liked the chashu. I just wish the egg was more soft-boiled since mine was a little overcooked. My friends tried the wavy noodles, yuzu ramen, sesame cold noodles, and karaage chicken bowl, so we had a little bit of everything. The service was really nice, and everyone was helpful when we had questions about customizing our ramen. I also liked the interior because it had a cozy ramen shop vibe. The only downside was the cleanliness--our table was pretty sticky, and we noticed an ant and a fruit fly, so I definitely think the dining area could be cleaned a little better. Tried this spot after trying a sample of their chicken broth at a Yelp event and absolutely loved it. My family got the garlic karrage, black garlic ramen, and spicy miso ramen. We all got the chicken broth since I like it so much! The karrage was so flavorful,juicy, and crispy- a definite must order! The flavor of their broth is so yummy and it's so hard to find a spot with tasty chicken broth. I want to come back to try their original chicken broth as the sample I tried was so good. They provided extra chili oil when requested which made my ramen taste even better! The space is a little bit on the smaller size but doesn't feel claustrophobic. The staff constantly checked on us and fixed a small mistake they made very quickly. They were very friendly and patient with us as it took my family some time to decide that they wanted. This place offers warm or cold noodles with its tlukemen. I went with cold noodles as they contrasted well with the hot dipping broth. The noodles were nice, thick, and chewy, just the way I prefer. The filling is plentiful and delicious. For my main I got the black garlic ramen - with tofu, pork broth, and wavy noodles. It came with a perfectly done hard-boiled egg. I usually like to add some kind of vegetable but this time I kept it simple. The black garlic is not too strong, very smooth, and a little sweet. The tofu is lightly crisped on the outside, a very nice touch! The decorum around the restaurant is super fun and really enjoyable to look at. Came here with some friends on a Friday evening and it was busy but we were able to get a table easily. We all ordered different ramens. I ordered the Black Garlic Ramen with a mix of Chicken and Tonkotsu broth, pork meat, wavy noodles, green onions, and wood ear mushrooms. One of my friends ordered the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen and the other ordered the Malatang Ramen which is a winter special. Our food came out quickly. Portions seem to be on the smaller side. The Black Garlic Ramen had good flavor and was pretty garlicky. The noodles had some chew to them. It also came with half of an egg and three pieces of Chashu. I tried the broths of the other two. The Yuzu Shoyu was light in flavor but the yuzu comes through. The Malatang Ramen was very spicy, and my friend ordered the Mild version. Our server mentioned that people who order the Spicy version more often than not cannot finish it because it is too spicy. Overall, giving Kashiwa Ramen a 4/5. This is a solid place for ramen. Ebb and flow inside but I try and go early and get seated quick, but someday so do a lot of other folks. LOL I tend to find the order I like and stick with it, my ramen is consistently awesome every time. The pork is always very tender; the soup is hot and seasoned perfect. They have a 2nd "pink menu" full of all kinds of other options; my wife explores that one and is always happy. Im stuck on my ramen order. One day I might explore more. LOL The guy in charge is there most of the time and seems to know his regulars pretty well. The wait staff is always polite and very attentive. The person taking our order was patient with us as we ordered even as we were dealing with our toddler. Our requests were accommodated respectfully and to the best they could! Upon first glance, the gyoza looked good, like it was a family recipe and made from scratch! The spicy garlic ramen had thick, and a tasty looking broth and the portion sizes for the ramen looked like decent enough for the price. The taste for the gyoza was good, but the spicy black garlic ramen definitely stole the show! The broth was the perfect level of savory with a delicious blend of garlic that wasn't overpowering along with the pork broth. The chashu was incredibly tender and flavorful and the ramen was cooked perfectly - *chefs kiss*, amazing! Being a foodie and having tried many places, I would probably not come back here for ramen as there's plenty of better options. The service itself was terrible. I can't believe I didn't know about Kashiwa Ramen! There are honestly so many ramen places in OC, it's hard to keep track at this point. I know a lot of people think of Little Tokyo, South Bay, or even Sawtelle when they are craving ramen in Southern California, but honestly I would put some of the best in OC up against any of those areas any day. Kashiwa Ramen is a good example of that. Tucked into an unassuming strip mall in Costa Mesa next to Rance's Chicago Pizza and Takumi Sushi, this little ramen outpost is serving up some delicious ramen in styles I've never even had before. We started with Takoyaki (5 for 6$50) and Crunchy Garlic Karaage ($7.50) as appetizers: the Takoyaki was pretty standard but the Karaage was very different because of the crunchy garlic sauce that was drizzled over it. The consistency of the fried garlic and the slightly spicy flavor of the sauce reminded me a little of a chili crisp, but much more garlicky. Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like garlic it's one way to jazz up what would otherwise be a traditional style chicken Karaage. Both of us got the Basil Chicken Ramen ($16.50), which is a Winter Special. I can honestly say I have never had ramen like this before. A thick basil broth, with sliced Pomodorini tomatoes, topped with melted cheese... it's almost like a Pesto Pasta soup, but the other ingredients make it resemble something like a Neapolitan pizza in ramen form. Super rich and flavorful... it's not something you'll always be looking for when it comes to ramen, but definitely a nice change of pace from your typical Tonkotsu or Shio broths. Only my first time here and already I want to come back to try their Tsukemen and other broths! No reservations so make sure you time your visit correctly so you don't wait too long in line! read more

Pro Tip: For taste, don't choose the lite option for broth, especially for miso. I made this mistake and the broth came out pretty plain and diluted with little flavor. It was a bit light in flavor, though. This was my first time here, my girlfriends second. I got the swirl ramen (combination of chicken and pork broth) with pork and wavy noodles. I've never seen the swirl broth option and I was pleasantly surprised. The creaminess of the chicken and richness of the pork broth synergize quite well. My girlfriend got the spicy ramen with tonkotsu and wavy noodles. I'm not sure what the straight noodles would look like. We both really enjoyed our meals.
