What incredible value! I came with a friend and got the $99 prix fixe for two before going to see a broadway show. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with nothing but warm hospitality. Our server was incredibly friendly and even asked if we had a show to get to so he could expedite our food. So considerate! The prix fixe was really good value - starter, main, desert AND a bottle of wine for $99! The salad was really tasty, I liked the warm walnuts and the figs added a nice contrast of texture and sweetness. Of the other items in the tasting board, I really enjoyed the Kashkaval cheese. We didn't opt for any add ons/fondue dippers with our fondue, so only had bread. While we did feel full at the end, next time I'd go for an add on for more variety. I came here for lunch with a couple friends from out of town. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were given window seating, and the space was cozy with pretty lights, brick walls, as well as wood. There was a welcoming ambiance to the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We shared the Rose Cardamom Pistachio Pastry, and I wish I had gotten one of them with fruit salad and labne. The Rose Cardamom Pistachio Pastry was delicious, layered with delicate mixture of rose and cardamom flavor, and sprinkled with plenty of crushed pistachio. It was sweet, lightly flaky, and slightly crunchy. For my entree, I chose the Truffle Fondue with various types of sausage. The Truffle Fondue was served on top a small flame to keep it warm. It was satisfyingly melty, full of true truffle taste, and quite yummy. It came with pieces of white sourdough bread, which were nicely chewy. The sausage also came with purple grapes, as well as a piece of carrot. Sausage was succulent, juicy, and well seasoned. It was a perfect dipper for the fondue. I would have also liked to have potatoes with it, but each additional ingredient were priced a la carte, so would have to pay more. I wasn't really a fan of that set up and think that each fondue should have included more than just bread. Service was solid. Our waiter was personable and helpful. We were well taken care of throughout. Prices were reasonable, though fondue can get a little up there, depending on what you order with it. I was craving fondue and there is a fondue spot that is participated in restaurant week! Talk about score! Unfortunately, the restaurant week lunch menu is not offered on Sunday. And because I was looking forward to fondue that day, we decided to go with the regular menu. The base fondue was $24/pp which I think was really reasonable. We ordered: ~ Cheddar & Cider fondue - Cheddar, cider, onion jam (the flavors really complimented well. The cider gave it a nice sweetness to the cheese. I can eat the cheese all day) The fondue was served in a cast iron pot and you get baguette for the dipping. You can pay more for additional add ons but we decided to just stick with the baguette. ~ Two Skewers Plate (Kofte Colorado lamb, herbs, spices & Chicken yogurt, red pepper, herbs, spices) Served with house-made harissa and tzatziki, and a choice of mushroom bulgur or squash caponata. ( We were informed if you don't like olives go with the mushroom bulgur, which we did). What a lovely night in Europe, it felt like! We came in for more of a Mediterranean vibe and walked away, feeling like we were in the Swiss Alps. The fondue was exceptional. We got the seasonal cheddar which has cheddar cheese cider and onion jam. It was delectable. The bread baguette was tasty too. Not too stale. For two people we added on the charcuterie, sausages and grapes. But it was so much food already. We really didn't need it. But they were tasty and well cooked. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and was glad I had made a reservation. My friend and I enjoyed our food and the service was friendly and quick. This is a "healthy" Mediterranean spot that has been around for a while though it took me a while to show up because I'm not the hugest fan of fondue. The inside felt rustic and the staff was nice. I don't believe I had a drink. For a tl;dr version, the skewers weren't good so stick with the fondue and maybe get a dip or something. I went with the two skewer plate which is normally $24 but was an extra $6 as I got a specialty skewer which came with harissa and tzatziki and a choice of mushroom bulgur or seasonal caponata though they were able to split the two which was nice. My classic choice was the Kofte listed as Colorado lamb with herbs and spices while my specialty skewer was the Marinated Salmon wrapped in grape leaves. The former kofte was okay being pretty flavorful but was overall just a bit dry with the dips being quite necessary to help with the dryness. The salmon was a bit sour being presumably flavored from the grape leaves which were a bit burnt. It was better than the kofte but not by enough that I would recommend it. For the dips, they were alright. The harissa was a tad watery/less spicy than I would like. The tzatziki was standard but standard is better than worse than normal so it was preferred. Speaking of watery, the seasonal caponata was which was presumably from the tomatoes but it had some flavor at least. The mushroom bulgur was alright with not many mushrooms but the texture was decent. Combining everything, it just wasn't a particularly good dish. The portion size was a tad small for the price point, the flavors weren't particularly good even compared to cheaper Mediterranean or Middle Eastern spots, and some stuff was watery. It just wasn't worth it. For other mains, many people got skewers (someone liked the King Oyster Mushroom and someone else liked the Grilled Octopus) and I tried a bit of the Kashkaval Fondue which is $24 without anything to dip in outside of a baguette which was better flavored than the skewers so I guess stick with that and get the assorted veggies or some other dip. Speaking of fondue, the best thing was the dessert which someone else ordered which was the Chocolate Tahini Swirl Fondue for $15 which came with pretzels, apricots, apple, and chocolate chip cookies for dipping. The tahini/sesame flavor was a tad light but I was happy that the chocolate was dark and barely sweetened as it would have been overkill with some of the stuff to dip inside. This was good. While I liked the atmosphere and the staff was nice, I wasn't a huge fan of the food. The skewer plate just wasn't good by comparisons to the fondue not even including the price point. For so many years this has been my go to place for a post-opera fondue. It's great if you want something delicious, but don't want something as a heavy as a full on meal. Plus perfectly conducive to wine and chatting. Kashkaval Fondue: While I love the traditional Swiss fondue, I can pretty much get that everywhere fondue is served (or make it at home too). So I go for their eponymous kashkaval cheese. It's got a unique tangier flavor than the cheese version. Ample bread is served, so you won't run out of carbs to soak up all this delicious melted cheese. Charcuterie: It's not a typical charcuterie platter you might imagine, but essentially a bunch of grilled up smoked sausage chunks. And that's actually perfect for dipping into all that cheese. I came here last night and we decided to go for the $99 Prix Fixe for two. The server was very friendly and considerate, asking us at the start of our meal if we had any time constraints such as a show afterwards, which we did; we had about an hour til we needed to leave, so he said he would talk to the kitchen to make sure things came out fast. The KG Tasting board had a nice variety of tasty items; I actually liked the peppadews more than I expected to and the warm pita was delicious with the hummus. The kale salad was also quite tasty and very large with a nice variety of walnuts, shaved pecorino, and dried figs. We got the Chenin Blanc wine which was very light and refreshing and paired nicely with everything, especially the main course: the fondue! Our server recommended the Kashkaval cheese since we're not huge fans of pungent cheeses. It was flavorful and a fun experience dipping the baguette pieces in the pot. Lastly, we got the baklava which had a nice flaky top. Overall, the food was pretty good, the value of the set menu was great, and the service was phenomenal; even the other server would check in on us and everyone brought a cheerful mood, which really made it a delightful experience to dine here. read more

My friend and I came for a dinner on a Friday night. My friend made a reservation, which was a good call because the tables do fill up pretty quickly by 6:30/7pmish, but they also have bar seating (presumably for walkins). We shared a classic cheese fondue, the Gruyère cheese was delicious and tasted real and sophisticated. I also ordered an Organic Kale salad, which came with a lemon vinaigrette, dried figs, walnuts and pecorino cheese. The portion was very large and filling. The grapes with cheese were an interesting combination and I was pleasantly surprised. For the grilled skewers, stick with the chicken. The lamb skewer was dry and tough. The side dishes with the skewers were not very good. Ambiance was cute. There are approximately 18,000 restaurants in NYC, and I spent one afternoon of my trip pondering the seemingly endless options of all different cuisines from all across the world. It took me awhile to go over my options but I eventually settled on this place, and in a seemingly endless sea of choices, this is a very good one. I was not a fan of either of the salad options and the person behind the bar was able to substitute in an order of the pita and hummus instead, and I wish this was one of the normal options to accompany the meal since their pita and hummus is delicious. The guy sitting next to me strongly recommended it as well and I ended up chatting with him for a bit after. Everyone I interacted with, especially the staff, were really nice and friendly. Such a unique + cute spot! There aren't many restaurants around the city that specialize in fondue, so its definitely worth the visit for a fun and different meal experience! I made a last minute reservation for a friday night at 730, but we got there a half hour early and they were able to seat us right away which was such a nice surprise! We ordered the truffle fondue & the classic fondue, along with baquette and crudites to dip into the fondue. We finished every last bit of the fondue and enjoyed every bite. The truffle fondue was definitely our favorite and would recommend for all truffle lovers! I didn't think that this would fill me up for a whole meal, but it actually did! We also both ordered wine, and I loved that they had 3 different serving sizes to choose from; you don't see this very often, and was a nice alternative from having to order 2, especially since the 9 ounce pour was almost equivalent to 2 glasses! Went on a cloud and blistery night and was blown away when I was walked to my table. It was in a lovely corner, all decorated, low lighting and beautiful ambiance. I felt like i was in a ski chalet. Not a large room but our table was situated in the corner where it felt intimate. Ordered a glass of lovely wine and an appetizer sampler. I have to say that we were in heavy debate on whether we should do the fondue instead but then decided we must come back and try the fondue. We ordered the hummus, babaganush, sweet potato hummus and one other. The pita bread was huge and came out warm . So good! We all loved it. Next came the main course and as a vegetarian felt like they had amazing options. I got the king oyster skewers, falafel skewers and mushroom bulgar. My friends got the octopus and falafel skewers and my other friend the grain bowl. We all loved what we had and were stuffed and couldn't finish our meals or order dessert. We have such a dearth of fondue restaurants in NYC (I know, right?) that I think people's expectations are just lowered. Kashkaval ain't all that. I'm tired so I'll keep this short. The Truffle Fondue lacked truffle flavor. The Assorted Veg & Fruit plate and Charcuterie plates both came with grapes, which was annoying, and cauliflower/broccoli that was way too big. Plus, the meat selection (roasted kielbasa, loukaniko and soujouk) left a lot to be desired (too similar and chewy). And don't bother with drinks--watered down nonsense. read more

Kashkaval has been on my to try list for 10+ years, I'm just never in this area of the city so it has taken me a while to get there. I finally made a reservation for pre-theatre dinner and we ordered the prixe fix for two, $100 including a shared app platter, a shared main dish, a dessert, and a bottle of wine. For the main we had a choice of skewers or fondue, if you do the special I suggest ordering the fondue, because the skewers weren't anything to write home about. We tried the kofte skewer, mushroom skewer, and falafel skewer. The mushroom I think was the worst one, it seemed like most of the pieces were mushroom stems, which really is outrageous. The dessert was probably the highlight of the meal. Our waiter was great and you could tell they have a good crowd of regulars. Maybe just don't order the prixe fix, because the food off of that menu (expet dessert) seemed very basic and not worth it. read more

We had a wonderful lunch of delicious Mediterranean food here! We sat outside in front of the restaurant since we had a dog with us. The waitstaff loved our dog (who is appropriately named Baba Ganoush), and even wanted to get pictures of him to post on social media! Food-wise, we had delicious baba ganoush (of course), beet hummus, dolmas, fresh warm pita bread, skin skewer, and seafood. Everything tasted wonderful. This is such a cozy place that feels like a true neighborhood gem- the vibe is just so friendly and welcoming inside, and we had a really great, friendly server. The food was all really good and very reasonable. I've been meaning to check out this neighborhood joint and finally did. The Brussels sprouts, grilled halloumi and octopus were great dishes. The grilled skewers were nothing to write home about. The waiter was very attentive and didn't have to remind him to refill our glasses though they kept on coming back to take our plates even though we were not done with dinner and were carried away with our conversations.
