This place was great when it first opened over 20 years ago. I lived in NYC at the time and thoroughly enjoyed my meal here in 2000. I was married to a Turkish man at that time and this restaurant had his stamp of approval. The dish that stood out on the menu was the Manti, and I came back to the restaurant after recently moving back to NYC hoping to relive that good experience. I guess it was wishful thinking to believe that a restaurant wouldn't change during that amount of time. The evening started off with them serving us a glass of wine that had gone completely off, but that was quickly rectified. We ordered Manti, lahmajun and lamb köfte. The Manti came out with half yogurt and half tomato sauce. Since when has Manti ever been served this way? The yogurt sauce was watered down and devoid of any garlic flavor. The original dish had tons of garlic and only yogurt as the sauce. This version was tasteless. Also, the Manti were not cooked long enough and the dough was undercooked and chewy. The lahmajun did t have enough salt on it and was rather bland. The lamb köfte was underseasoned and under spiced and it didn't come with sauce and we had to ask for the yogurt sauce which arrived watered down and flavorless. We were provided with a basket of bread and pita. The bread was dry and tasted like it had been sitting around too long. The accompanying olive oil was diluted with vegetable oil and didn't taste at all like olive oil. Did they think people would not notice? I was really craving künefe for dessert but decided not to order it because I wasn't happy with any of the food we had ordered today so how could the dessert be any better? I'm never going back to this restaurant. The meal cost over $120 and we left utterly disappointed. The ambience was ok. It was better than the food lol. read more

This review is for delivery, which always feels a little unfair as it's not always a reflection of the restaurant as much as the delivery process. That said, the food came very quickly so I was surprised that everything was cold -- at best, lukewarm. (I'm pretty close to the restaurant too.) Got the manti, which I'd never had before. I'm always up for trying a dumpling. Are they better warm? I'm guessing. They reminded me of pelmeni but with the addition of a yogurt sauce. Also ordered hummus as well as the falafel appetizer. The latter came with hummus too, which was nice and creamy, and I'm not mad that I have a bunch leftover. But I am a little disappointed that the falafel itself was fried so long that it was almost impossible to cut. The ratio of crispy exterior to soft interior was off. Pity because it tasted quite nice. And like I said, it was cold. The menu doesn't clarify what comes with pita and what doesn't, and there's no option for ordering additional pieces. My order came with three pieces of pita. So I'll be busting out some carrots from the fridge to eat all this hummus. Everything tasted fine, so I wouldn't NOT recommend this restaurant. I've been in my Mediterranean/middle eastern food phase and I was trying to look for a spot in the location with my gf. I found this place and overall I loved it! For me, I got the red lentil soup and entree wise, barbecued lamb kofte. The lentil soup was very flavorful. It didn't have much in it other than the lentils which is good cause it really made me appreciate the lentils compared to a soup if it had other stuff in it like maybe vegetables and meats. The entree was really good! The lamb patties were juicy and tender. It wasn't rubbery meaning it wasn't overcooked but cooked to the way I liked it. I really liked the vegetables on the side as well. It was a very well balanced meal as how I expected it. The service was great, the server was kind and helpful in offering us recommendations. They were on top of the water as well (something not much restaurants do and take a while to fill your cup). The ambiance was very well presented and high end imo. It was not noisy so it was good to have conversations in. The place was very decorative in Turkish middle eastern style as expected. Everything was tasty, and we would order them again but the hummus and babaghanoush were a little bland while still enjoyable. The white bean salad was good, but very heavy on the onion and vinegar. The bread included with the dips was turkish bread and pita. The turkish bread was delicious, fluffy and crunchy on the outside. For entrees we got the turkish dumplings, lamb kofte (4 patties) and lamb shish kebab (6 pieces). Each was cooked perfectly and nicely spiced and we would definitely eat them each again. It's a cute little garden with Turkish art design. We had Mava as our waitress. Very pleasant and knowledgeable about traditional Turkish cuisine. We had lamb shish kebab, chicken shish kebab, falafel appetizer hummus, and baby okra with lamb stew. I also tried Turkish tea. You must try the tea, and they offer one of the best teas. The kebabs were pretty good. Falafel was quite good. The stew tasted good, but included only a few tiny pieces of lamb with plenty of okra. This is the dish I wouldn't recommend if you like lamb stew. Good thing I like okra. Overall not that bad. Beautiful place, and they offer outside seating in front of the restaurant as well. What a wonderful Turkish restaurant right in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. My friend and I saw a show nearby and were so excited there was a restaurant with such a lovely menu so close by to our destination. We were instantly enamored by all of the colored lights/lamps illuminating the space inside. Whomever was the interior designer did a really nice job. It felt absolutely magical for our dinner experience here. Our server knew the menu very well and was able to describe in detail for us the various authentic dishes. We started with the cacik and zucchini pancakes. The tzatziki-like yogurt dish was incredible - it was my first time having a dish like this with the crunch of nuts blended in and it was very savory. The pancakes were average as others have commented, but were made better with the cacik put on top. My friend and I split the fresh sea bass entree and were very pleased by its delicate flavor and flaky texture. We had such a fulfilling dinner that there was no room for dessert.
