Let's say 4.5 because the stuffed cabbage is nowhere near as good as my mother's. I can't speak to the sandwiches as I only ordered pierogies and stuffed cabbage. It was a little later in the day so there weren't as many choices left but they were all very good. The counter person kindly offered to heat them up for us. She reheated the stuffed cabbage too, but those were not quite as good. The fillings were under seasoned and the porcini was not especially noticeable in the porcini and rice roll although it was the better of the two. Have seen this place a few times but never went in before! Got stuffed cabbage, pierogies, and beef stew. Everything VERY reasonably priced, purchase is by the pound. Loooved the stuffed cabbage - filling could have had a bit more seasoning but tecture was just right (reheated wrapped in tinfoil in a low warm oven). Pierogies were pretty good as they were, but were even better panfried to get some color and crisp on them! I would give them a solid 4.5 stars. This is a top notch European deli, so it may not suit American taste buds. Everything is fresh in the deli. Meats, cheeses, and bread are all top notch. The soups are excellent as well. I've had most of them. The only one that didn't hit right was the tomato rice soup. The split pea and borscht are top notch. The service is warm and attentive. The ambiance is simple. The store is very clean too. There are a wide variety of different prepackaged products for sale as well, which you won't find in Jewel, Mariano's etc. So, try something new. I went to Kasia's for lunch last week for the first time and it was GREAT! Had them make me up a fresh turkey sandwich and got a bag of chips. They were fast and super efficient even with the lunchtime rush. There are 3 tables inside and one happened to open up right after I finished checking out. I've always bought Kasia's frozen pierogi's in my local market and honestly did not know that Kasia Deli was the same company. I was delighted to see other products made fresh like the cabbage rolls that I did not hesitate to ask for. They were sold by weight so I bought 2 pounds, 1 IB with no sauce and 1 IB with what seems like a thin layer of tomato sauce. I did ask for extra sauce which I thought I was getting a few ounces but only saw that she gave a 1 oz ($.35) added to my bill. (I suggest you not get extra sauce). I did see a box of kolaczki cookies on top of the deli counter and I thought they were made in-house (they are not). The cookies were doughy and not enough fruit jam. Overall, the food was fantastic and I would come back for more cabbage rolls and fresh pierogi's. Stopped here on a food bike tour of Chicago. It was by far one of my favorite stops. In the Lithuanian village, it's a staple and has been there for quite sometime. i ordered Easter dinner from Kasia's for a family of six. Baked ham, smoked sausage and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, sweet peas with bacon, cheddar pierogi, salad with all the fixings, creamed horseradish, and cheese blintzes.l--it was all really delicious and the portions were huge. A loaf of their delicious egg bread completed the meal. Everything was well-packed and they included easy to follow reheating instructions. My only minor complaint was that some of their estimated reheating times were wildly off. Things they said would take 10 minutes to reheat took over a half hour.But all was okay. Kasia's is the best! I always try to give them my business instead of the grocery store when I can. I'm assuming they're a small business and the feel inside of this is local, neighborhood-y, and nice. Plus their Krakus ham is $2 cheaper per pound versus Mariano's. They have great lunch meat, I love their fresh turkey lunch meat. Their bread is also great with straightforward ingredients. Beware, they close at 7 most days, 6 on Saturdays, and I thought they were closed on Sundays but online says Sundays 10-2. read more

They had a lunch special on Tuesday, the special consists of your choice of a sandwich,can of soda pop and a bag of chips for $6.99. As a former Chicago resident, I have been ordering Kasia's pierogis shipped to me for 10 years, maybe more. I almost never had a freezer which did not have a goodly supply of them for a quick and delicious dinner. However, last year my order was not the same. The meat pierogi which I dearly loved were "chewy" and all the varieties were too doughy. So, now I am slogging through them. I have read other reviews which state that a new generation of the family took charge and things have not been as good since. Maybe that was it or maybe they have new staff who changed the recipes. Regardless the reason, Kasia's pierogis are no longer good. Definitely not worth the expense to have them shipped. On top of that, I wrote twice to ask about the changes I had perceived. Review is for a Polish sausage sandwich I had from the Kasia's booth at Pierogi Fest in Whiting this past weekend. It was the BEST Polish sausage I ever had. Grilled to perfection. Nice bite. Delicious sauerkraut and nice fresh bun that was the perfect size for the sausage. I have had plenty of Polish sausage, but this was the best. Get made to order sandwiches for under 5 bucks, ridiculously delicious cabbage rolls, and of course their signature pierogies that you can find a packaged version of in any Jewel or Mariano's around town. Trust me the fresh made deli version is why the frozen ones are now available. The ladies who run this joint are incredibly kind especially for how hectic it gets in here. Stopped by for lunch yesterday and was very happy with my Irish Reuben combo deal: $7 for the sandwich, a bag of Lay's and a Diet Coke. Also, some of the desserts on display are pretty cheap...a big roll of those chocolate and vanilla cookies are less than $3 so I can make that work every time! The service is a little slow so don't expect to just walk in and grab a quick bite (service at Bari is like this too), and the sandwich are just the right size, not overly large (this might be a criticism). Two months later, and I'm giving Kasia's another 5-star review! I completely failed to mention how awesome the ladies who work here are! They are always very helpful and pleasant. I just swung by Kasia's in a mad rush on my lunch break for some perogies, caprese-like salad, chips, and a drink. I put my chips on the counter and the girl working the counter noticed a huge hole in my chip bag that I failed to notice in the big rush I was in and pointed it out to me. I appreciate that!!
