    Gyro Sandwich

The artwork on the walls in this place is just stunning... Although it's a bit dark and dingy, the staff is very warm and welcoming. You will be treated like family from the moment you enter till the moment you leave. And the food... Come for the spanakopita and stay for the Gyro... Both absolutely enormous and incredible. Probably the most authentic gyro I've ever eaten, and yes, it was the size of my head... if you love, good Mediterranean food, and are in the south side of Pittsburgh, do not miss this place!

What a gem! If I had my ukulele I would play a sweet song called "Yalla!" It's obviously a love song bc I love this place. Great service. Heavenly food! Exceedingly fresh and flavorful beyond words. I did all vegetarian... (but they have a plentiful meat selection) Mezza platter ! Huge! Spinach pie! Hot and fresh (not frozen malarkey) Dolma was such heaven, I wanted to sing a song! Something with Fairuz, of course. Pitas & fatoush (salad) Everything was delicious and delightful. I adore the painted mural of the Lebanese couple... and the lady is making Man'oushe with Zataar. What a charming place !

Had a fabulous lunch at Kassabs in the south side! We started with a mezza platter and grape leaves. The hummus was exceptional, very creamy and homemade flavor! The grape leaves were also delicious but I wish there was more meat inside! For our entrees we got salads- one house salad with filet and one fatoosh salad with chicken. Both were so good- the filet was done perfect on the house salad but I wish I would have gotten it on the fatoosh salad- the dressing on that one was just perfect, lemon and olive oil. All in all I would return for that fatoosh salad with chicken or steak, and for the great service.

My boyfriend and I tried Kassab's for the first time this weekend and were so pleasantly surprised! When we walked in the restaurant was empty, but pretty small. We were seated right away and the waiter was very attentive and polite. They do have alcoholic drinks as well but we went for lunch so we didn't get any. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma and my boyfriend got the Filet Kabob. I was amazed with the flavors in my Chicken Shawarma. It was so delicious and also ginormous! I tried my boyfriends Filet and it was tasty too. I will definitely be going back! If you've never had Lebanese food and want to try something new you should definitely stop in.

The most delicious lentil soup I've ever had. Highly recommend. The prices are amazing and the service is great. I liked the bar area.

To be honest, it was average. Maybe a little disappointing. This place is on the more expensive side when compared to other Mediterranean places, so I expected the quality to be quite high. It was not, sadly. I tried their rice pudding, meat pie, gyro sauce, and meat skewers. The meat pie was decent. I got delivery, so the condensation from it being hot did detract from the texture. But even with that aside, it wasn't very good. It was oddly sweet. The meat was dry and crumbly. I honestly would not recommend. The skewers were pretty good. You can't really go wrong with this sort of meat (actually, yes you can, if it's under or over cooked. But it was well cooked here). A bit on the costly side for the portion, but not terrible. Came with some vegetables as well, but not much else. I had to add the gyro sauce to get anything to dip my meat in. Nothing was included (while most places do include sauce with the meat). It's good quality sauce. Creamy and delicious, in a small container that costs just 75 cents so not too bad. The rice pudding was really good. It's anything I would want in a rice pudding: creamy, lightly sweet, and a good portion. You can still feel the rice kernels; it's well cooked with a good texture. And the price wasn't bad either. I would say this best menu item that I tried. All in all, I was somewhat disappointed with Kassabs. I was thinking of bringing guests into the restaurant, but after the experience, I'm probably not going to. It's not bad but just underwhelming. Better places in Pittsburgh for Mediterranean food. If you do come, get rice pudding as a dessert and load up on sauce.

I only have good things to say about this place, and I know all of my reviews are of me ordering the lamb shank, but this meal at Kassab's is so good that I can't NOT order it! I bring all of my friends and family that come in from out of town to show them one of the better places to eat in pittsburgh! I also love the fact that it's a family owned restaurant!!

Creamy flavorful hummus that pairs well with their pitas.

It has been a few years since I've been to Kassab's. I'm so glad that we came back now that they're open to in person dining. Everything was amazing. I got the filet kabob platter. Wow! The meat was one of the most tender pieces of beef that I've ever had. It was also so well seasoned, moist and flavorful. It was a party in my mouth. You get six giant pieces of meat plus a huge plate of rice. The tomato sauce that it comes with was unbelievably flavorful on the rice. I wanted to pick it up and drink it. My husband got the mixed platter with filet and chicken. His filet was a little too rare to eat today. However, it will be perfect when he heats it up for leftovers. He said the chicken was pretty good with the hummus because it was a little bit too dry. We decided to get a side of hummus. So glad that we did because it was so creamy and delicious. OMG! We absolutely loved it with the pita and the filet or chicken. Definitely check them out either for takeout or to sit inside. We were the only people in there. They are still enforcing distancing which is great.

It's got a nice location on the central road in Squirrel Hill, but it's a bit hard to find parking. When I got there, I got to try their shish tawouk (chicken kabob), mujadara, salad with feta, and iced mint tea. The tea was pretty alright. Refreshing and a nice mint flavor; I think they might make the blend in house. They also brought out some nice pita before we started the meal. For my main course, I ordered the shish tawouk. You usually get this meal with the rice pilaf, but they were out, so I got to try the mujadara. I'm actually quite glad! The chicken was tender, and the portion was very fair. They served it with a nice tomato sauce, but I also asked for some garlic sauce on the side. The sauces both seem to be homemade, and definitely go well with the chicken. The mujadara was surprisingly delicious. They top the dish with crispy sweet onions. It's a mix of lentils and some other grain. Very good! One thing to mention generally is this place closes quite early, usually around 8 or 8:30 PM, so do keep it in mind. It is also very clearly a family endeavor, with the mom managing most of the tables and the kids always helping out. Very nice place!

The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

Falafel appetizer was very, very hard and chewy. Even with a serrated knife it was difficult to cut! Shepherd Salad was fresh but was mostly red and green bell peppers. Donor Kebab was over cooked. Dry. Chewy. Tzatziki sauce was fine. I ordered two extra mini-cups of tzatziki to help me finish the donor kebab. (Extra $1). Bread was very good.
