Gyro Special looks and tastes absolutely delicious!!
    Joshua S.

We went to grab a quick dinner and let me tell you, The Original Gyro has stepped up their game!!! Not that they weren't good before but now? OH MY!! The picture I put on is the gyro special which comes with a large gyro, an order of fresh fries and a drink of your choice. It's right around $10 plus tax. The gyro came with a mountain of fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce and their amazing gyro sauce. In my opinion and I have been around to many different gyro shops, this is one of the best I've had!! Keep up the good work! Thank you for your delicious food!! Parking is pretty easy in case you were wondering about that. Also, we've had their desserts and they are delicious as well!!

Ordered lunch for delivery. Arrived in about 45 minutes. Took a bite of the Tiramisu while warming the fries and ended up eating my dessert entirely before tasting my lunch! Made it to the gyro and fries. Fries were so so, probably because they had to be warmed on arrival - no surprise. The gyro was very good. I appreciated that there was not excessive sauce and they remembered my request for no onions. I would order again.

I have been by this place countless times, I am a regular at Sherwin-Williams which is in the same plaza but I just recently decided to stop in and order some food. There is a pretty expansive menu and the employees were very kind with how they greeted me as I walked in. I decided to order a chicken gyro and my dad ordered an original gyro, we both got the meals that included a drink. I didn't even need the fries, the gyro was so filling and delicious! We decided to eat there after waiting for our food and the store was so busy with a lot of take out orders and a few people joined us in the dining room for their dinner. The dining room isn't big or fancy but it suits this place, I would assume it is family owned based on how well they treated their customers and they clearly care about the food they serve. I will definitely be back to try some other options on the menu, maybe no fries next time since everything is so filling!

The OG Gyro is my new GO2 for Greek! Ordered the lamb gyro for the first time because I had heard so many good things- and they're all true. The lamb meat was tender and so flavorful, perfect amount of tzatziki sauce, and quality pita. The grubhub orders take a while to get on it early if you're ordering. I'm super picky with Mediterranean food but this place knows what's up. Plus, not too expensive either. Finished the whole gyro which is rare for me- go here asap!!

Updating my review. I got food poisoning from this place last night. It's really bad. I had the chicken gyro. I will never eat here again.

Its a Solid Gyro dinner and a convenient location. The Cucumber sauce was really good which imo makes or breaks a gyro.

Ask the Community - The Original Gyro

Did the gyro recipe changed? The lamb was darker and not as tender as all the times we have tried.

Hmm I can't remember, my apologies, but it was good I remembered. I will have to stop back there next week if can and i will let you know.

My husband and I ate one lunch here. Indoor and covered outdoor seating was available. The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

Falafel appetizer was very, very hard and chewy. Even with a serrated knife it was difficult to cut! Shepherd Salad was fresh but was mostly red and green bell peppers. Very little tomato or cucumber or onion which I was expecting. Not their fault but mine for not knowing about this salad. Again they were super nice and offered to take it back. Donor Kebab was over cooked. Dry. Chewy. Tzatziki sauce was fine. I ordered two extra mini-cups of tzatziki to help me finish the donor kebab. (Extra $1). Bread was very good. I ordered the Turkish Tea but it never came : (

We were confused as to where the actual restaurant was. There is a sign on Route 8, so we parked there, looked around, walked downstairs, only to find it was offices. We then walked upstairs and found that the entrance was actually on the other side of the building but accessible from the front. It's an interesting place when you walk in. We were quickly greeted and seated. It seemed as though the owner and family were working. The menu was interesting, not real large but sufficient. We had, who I believe is the owner, come to our table and ask what we typically like to eat and then she was making suggestions. We thought she was just being helpful. My wife finally looked at her and said, I'm sorry are you also taking flour order now? She replied well that's what I was trying to do. To me that was a little off putting. We all took her suggestions and ordered. The food came out fresh and warm. It was good. We all tried each others meals. We felt that what my wife ordered was the best. The place isn't huge inside but it was fairly busy. It was a little pricey but not bad.

My favorites were: 1) the char-grilled octopus - so tender 2) chicken souvlaki - the roasted veggies were so good with the smokiness of the chicken! 3) the salmon on top of the Elia salad - it was cooked to perfection. Juicy and flaky! Our server was the one who recommended the Elia Salad with salmon on top with the Champgane Vinaigrette. But, we went with the Greek dressing... I think we would have liked her recommendation more because the combo of salmon and salad was spot on! She definitely knew what she was doing and what tastes good! We sat in the indoor patio-like area and it was very bright with natural light and I love the exposed wood deco inside. It feels rustic and classy at the same time. Such a nice vibe, would definitely come again with a group of people to have a filling and and diverse meal!

Seeing him still there, working hard after all these years, was genuinely heartwarming. We visited over a busy holiday weekend, and although things were hectic, I couldn't help but feel for the owner, who was doing his best despite his age. I just wish the younger staff had stepped in to help him a little more. The food had some great highlights. The lamb kabob was tender, juicy, and full of flavor, the hummus was delicious, the lemon potatoes were amazing, and I enjoyed the sampler platter with the stuffed grape leaves. Overall, Christos has a lot of charm, history, and heart. I truly hope this Pittsburgh staple is around for many more years. With a little more attention to the service, the experience could easily match the quality of the food.

The pita was very thin and it really well with the hummus that was very solid. I got a large Greek salad that was pretty standard and good outside of a slice of banana that the owner said was for good luck. I tried a grape leaf which was the usual rice and herbs. I thought it was a solid grape leaf. The owner also brought out a combination of dipping sauces that I liked trying out. I got a chicken kebab which again was pretty standard, but the chicken was seasoned and cooked nicely. The owner also suggested a side of lemon potatoes which were tender and tasty. I thought the food was good, but the owner really made the trip worth it. He treated us like friends and was happy to share stories such as talking about cooking for Jackie Onassis. It felt a lot like going back in time as the atmosphere is just very different to most spots you'd find today. I didn't try any, but I've heard several folks say that his wine is excellent. I'd say this space is certainly worth checking out.
