This place is fantastic. Very nice variety on the buffet, and nice selection of sushi. I've tried several samples of lots of dishes, and each one is absolutely delicious. Staff is very cordial, responsive, and willing to give a good dining experience. Restaurant is clean, and the buffet well-maintained. We live two hours away and don't get to Canton that often, but on his first trip to Katana's, hubby told me we are never leaving Canton again without stopping here for dinner. Stopped in for lunch during the week and thought the food was pretty good. It was really busy and the hibachi line was too long for me to wait but it looked good. The Staff has a lot to be desired. Rude, not friendly, and pushy. Starts from the moment they take your money at the door. Wait staff seem reluctant to give you refills on your soda and keep begging/telling you to leave tip before you are even done. This is one of my favorite places to come on the weekend. They have a nice buffet and a sushi bar with sushi and sashimi selections and also a hibachi bar. The buffet is your typical Chinese style setup, but where you get the best bang for your buck is the hibachi and sushi bar, both excellent. My husband and I decided to try Katana Buffet for lunch today. We live in a neighboring city and was getting bored with the buffet choices around us. One word - Wow! So many choices - Salad bar, fruit bar, 5 or 6 bars with all kinds of delicious variety choices - Sushi station with many choices - Habachi station - Dessert bar with cakes, cookies, pie and my favorite Ice cream with a variety of toppings. Everything was fresh, everything was clean, the waitress was attentive...and...the ladies room was clean and cared for and my husband said the mens room was also clean. Everything was so good and there is something for everyone. You can't leave Katana hungry!!! We have a new favorite place and we plan to visit often! The price was reasonable as well! We had 6 plates on our table that needed to be picked up that were ignored. Finally i said to a server "excuse me" and was ignored. When i said it again and asked if our dirty plates could be taken she raised her voice angrily saying HOLD ON as if i was bothering her. Had she replied the first time i wouldnt have needed to call her again. Needless to say she never assisted us and started talking their language to another server who after about 10 minutes finally came over took the plates, didnt ask if we needed refills or anything. All of this going on while i sit back and watch how they are catering to others. I made the assumption to myself "hmmm must be because we are African American and at the time we were the only ones there. Their customer service (servers) stink. The cashiers were a little more pleasant. They greeted us and smiled. They need customer service 101 classes! Also, food was barely warm, restrooms a mess, and the ice station freezer looks like a breeding ground with many deadly germs because of the rusting. read more

Have eaten at katana many times their food is good and there is plenty of it their waitresses are nice and courteous, but some people seem to think that they are being ignored by their waitresses but customers must understand one thing these kids come here with little English and they do the best they can to assist you and help you and do their job to satisfy you and it's best if you try to understand that in most of these Asian restaurants they don't have a lot of people working in them that speak fluent English but they try. One place this restaurant needs work is their hibachi they need to have chefs to be more diligent as they do tend to ignore you which is not good for any restaurant. Their Non-Chinese chefs need to pay a little more attention to their work then their phones and their music otherwise I really have no complaints with this restaurant. Very disappointed last time I was here the food was great but now it was cold, every single piece of food! This is my FAVORITE Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Everything here is amazing. The food, the decor & staff! The food is always hot and refilled in a good manner. It's very popular! If you go on a Sunday you will be eating with close to 200 people. They have great dessert and sushi. They are a newer place so the decor is very nice. However, and I'm sure I'm nitpicking, the last time I was here the mashed potatoes were very runny like soup. I chalked it up to a bad day, but then I came back today and still soup like potatoes. Went for birthday dinner with family and it was horrible! Waitress argued with us cause we didn't have right receipt and would not leave table till my mom went and got one from register. They didn't charge my sister for my 3 year old niece so the waitress came to table 2 to tell us we have to pay for the baby. Then manager came over and also said we had to pay for her. Drinks didn't get refilled and plates weren't cleared. After my mom paid the 3.99 for my niece the manager didn't even care that we complained about the service and how they embarrassed us. When leaving waitress informed us tip not included with buffet and continued to shout tip at us as we were getting up. Then started shouting money on table at my father and smacking the table and acting wild. She then flipped him off and shouted f*** you to him and my sister. Then yelled she was tired of you crazy white people at them. When my sister asked to talk to the manager they told her she wasn't there she went home. I'm not really a Japanese food fan so I was hesitant about going as I was told it was a sushi restaurant, but it is so much more than that. It is the best buffet I have been to and the hibachi grill allows you to choose all that you want freshly made to order. You choose vegetables, steak, chicken, shrimp, noodles and they prepare it in front of you. There are choices to appeal to all pallets and kids as well. Pizza, sausage, clams, lobster, chicken, full salad bar, fresh fruit, sushi, ..... 10 stations in all. When you are full there is an ice cream bar with 8 choices and toppings as well as a table with cookies and squares. How they can do it for such a low price surprises me. $7-10 for adults depending on age and if you order a soft drink. Would certainly go back. read more

Went there on Sunday May 19 and when we got home we were so sick and it came out everywhere. As of today we are feeling better but will never go there again. This will be our first and last time at this establishment. We came after a funeral to meet up with family ive never met before. Myself, fiancé and teenage daughter paid and sat...NEVER got a drink until someone spoke up for us and mind you I was sick so I paid to eat and literally 3 bites and then as the last couple of us left he demanded money for someone who didn't pay (child) and I had NO IDEA who they ment and told us to stay so he could call the police..mind you we had our paid receipt. I have been going here for lunch for over a year about once every two weeks. The food is quality, and the service was great. I was charged the same amount for a buffet to go every time, but last time I went, they charged me the premium price, which I understood was for inclusion of sushi and Hibachi. The guy was new and insisted that because I got seafood, which was fried shrimp from the regular buffet, I had to pay the higher price. We quit coming here a few years back because of the rude staff, however, we decided to give it another try after a long period of time. Upon arrival, where you pay, the cashier was not friendly whatsoever, but maybe she was preoccupied with customers..okay..we get to our table and start to the buffet when we notice a child, approximately 5 years old with her entire hand inside the tray of dumpling dipping sauce playing with it. Her mother isn't paying attention and an employee comes over and says something, but not in English. The employee sees us looking and walks away. I assumed she was going to get another tray although she didn't remove the one with the hand in it. As we ate, we watched and she never returned to exchange it. YUCK. How many other trays are contaminated with people's hands and fingers, yet employees look the other way? Shame on parents who do not pay attention to their children and double shame to the restaurant employee who didn't care. Our server never spoke to us nor did she smile, even when thanking her for removing our dirty plates. I assumed she didn't speak English and didn't care to be polite. It's not always about the food..(this wasn't terrible but Buffet Dynasty across the road is better) but you have to have good service as well if you want to succeed. Went to Katana for my second and last time last night. Horrible food quality. Went at 8 PM and I guess I should have half expected the food quality and quantity to be so pitiful. The sushi bar was decimated and even though I asked a staff person to have some more made, the three sushi / hibachi chefs continued to stand against the wall for the entire 40 minutes we were at the restaurant. Let me start by saying that we went in 3 hours prior to closing. We sat down and waited approximately 25 minutes before we were even approached to get drinks. We decided then that we would go up and get our salads. When we were finished eating our salads, a woman finally came and asked us what we wanted to drink. My other half ordered a diet, and I ordered a sweet tea because thats what we always order to drink while out to eat. I was told they were out of sweet tea (as I was watching another woman brew 2 containers full). I then ordered a root beer, which I was extremely unhappy with because I do not like drinking pop with my Chinese food. We then asked another employee if they had sweet tea and she replied with "just a little bit left". The food was mediocre at best. The best thing about it was the store bought sugar cookies we had for dessert. While up at the buffet getting food, several employees were pushing customers out of the way in order to clean, refill portions, etc. including the both of us. This was our first time here at Katana, and will surely be our last. Congrats guys, we will tell 5 people who will then tell 5 more people and so on and so forth. My boyfriend and I went to Katana, but probably won't be coming back. The hostess was extremely rude. At one point, she told us to, "Go away," as we were waiting. The busser/waiter was extremely polite though, and continuously made sure we had full drinks. Neither of us enjoyed much of the food, but the crab rangoon was to die for. For the price, you're paying for the atmosphere, not the service or food. You're better off going to Buffet Dynasty across the street. read more

While this place has a wide variety of food and I would rate it above similar restaurants in that regard, the staff made for a poor experience overall. We arrived as part of a larger party, and they were clearly unhappy to be dealing with a group. Part of our party was seated and the servers took our drink orders. Everyone in the party who arrived after us had to wait a considerable length of time before anyone came back to the table to check on the rest of the drink order. Most of us never got refills. The servers were reaching across plates and over shoulders to grab plates and cups off the table. When the server brought everyone the fortune cookies on an empty bill tray (you have to pay at the door when you come in) we got up to leave. Our server stopped us and kept motioning at the empty bill tray. We said we had already paid but she kept pointing at it and she was talking too fast for us to understand. We thought she was saying we hadn't paid, but we had the receipt to show her. A bunch more servers came over. They were all talking to each other and waving this tray around and we didn't know what was going on. After a few minutes it became clear they were trying to tell us we needed to tip. We had left a tip on the card (when we first came in!) as we didn't have cash. We kept saying that we had already left a tip on the card and they kept pointing at the empty tip line on our customer receipt and saying we hadn't tipped. We started to leave, as we're not obligated to leave a tip and we had already left one anyway, when they stopped us again at the register where they were frantically digging through receipts to find ours. I think they must have printed another copy since they handed us a pen and pointed at the tip line again. The receipt wasn't signed and had no tip written on it. We just signed it again and left. They were so pushy about this that it made the other people in our party uncomfortable. As far as buffets go, this is the best buffet we have been to in this area by far! Lost count of how many times we have been there because it is that good. Being huge sushi fans the first thing that is pleasantly surprising is how fresh and well done the sushi bar is. There is a huge variety of sushi and a dedicated chef who makes it. Remember this is a buffet so you wouldn't expect the quality of the sushi to be great, but it really is. And it is a good place to take someone if they are trying it for the first time. The other food is huge in variety but still has the quality of a made-to-order restaurant .Fresh,fresh,fresh, is the best quality of this buffet because food never has a chance to sit out here. We will frequent this establishment for as long as they are in business. There is never a wait although they are always busy and I wound say the only thing to mention is Katana's isn't exactly cheap. But you get what you pay for and with all the fresh seafood, hibachi station and sushi bar, it is well worth the price. read more

For what it offers I give this place a five star rating. I know it just opened and I hope it has staying power with the selections and quality. I'd hate for this to just be the show they put on out the gate. I was an avid frequenter of Ichiban and really enjoyed that place. They closed and I had a bit of a void to be filled. This place looks to fill that void and then some. The layout is actually very inviting and well organized. There are many bars setup with nice selections of food. I went there with the specific intent of trying all of the sushi they offered. As it is nowadays you will find rolls of some sort offered at pretty much any asian themed buffet regardless the stated style of food. This place had the equivalent of two bar sections of sushi. I went on a weekday night and they had salmon, tuna, squid, eel and shrimp nigiri. They also had several different types of rolls made with an assortment of chopped fish and actual fish pieces. You had your typical pickled veggie rolls but there was a lot more. They also had a rather decent hibachi layout which I didn't take advantage of because I opted for two plates of sushi. I should definitely note that the person making sushi was doing just that. He wasn't doing prep in another part of the kitchen. He wasn't slinking about texting people(as is often seen at another establishment in the area). His sole purpose there was to keep the sushi bar filled and he did a great job. The bars had an eclectic selection of foods. There was also a decent sized selection of soups. The standout dishes were the beef back ribs which were insanely tender and flavorful and a simple chilled muscle dish with almost a that chili sauce drizzled over them.
