The tipping situation here is horrible, and the staff is SUPER AGRESSIVE about it. It's a pay upfront buffet, which is DECIDEDLY not a traditional tipping situation. Most people charge and don't carry cash, it's very RUDE and AGGRAVATING to chase down and demand tips from people as they are walking out the door, when they have no cash on them THAT HAVE ALREADY PAID UPFRONT. We are here for weekend and it was $18.99 for the buffet. Food is warm and had a lot of options. You will see that the buffet table food are clean and well maintained. Definitely recommended but if you want it on the cheaper price, come during the weekdays, only $13.99. :) I didn't give the full 5 star coz the Hibachi wasnt that good, steak was rubbery even though it was freshly cooked. They would have to so something on getting the steak cut so it will be more flavorful. Better than the other buffet locally. Bathroom is not good though. Absolute worst service ever. We have been chased out of this place demanding more tip, and hesitated coming back. I gave in and stopped there last night, and was overwhelmed by the rudeness....A friend of ours spilled water, and when his girlfriend got up to get napkins the server grabbed them off of the table and then threw the wet ones back at her...I told her to stop being so mean, then found out that another family was told they couldn't sit in that particular section by us because it was closed, but they had a child on a wheelchair and needed the extra room at the table. Absolutely disgusted by the waitress. When I stood up to leave, no sooner had my butt left the chair and I was literally about to get a few dollars out for a tip when the waitress DEMANDED we leave a tip. She aggressively pointed and poked at the tray saying "You leave a tip!!" At that point there was NO way I was leaving one. She yelled "Oh my God!" and proceeded to yell at me and about me to another waitress in another language. Yelling at patrons to TIP YOU is the opposite of why anyone would ever actually tip you. It pains me to say that my once favorite place to go to eat is now on my, do not ever eat here, list. Recently there has been an uproar on social media. A story about someone who came here with their family and was chased down by a waitress in the parking lot for not leaving a tip when she left a tip. Now, I am one to give the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was lying for the attention of social media? Somehow I doubt it. It left a sour taste in my mouth but since my experience had always been good I didn't plan on stopping my occasional visit. Until I read the health inspection reports. They have a serious and current cockroach problem. Not just with customers complaining about seeing them, but the health inspector themselves seeing alive and dead ones. There are also multiple complaints about food poisoning, and I've had multiple friends say they have gotten sick from their food. I've been eating spectacular meals in this building since it was Hometown Buffet. I've eaten in quite a few Asian restaurants in the Canton/Akron area and this one is by far my favorite. Their food selection leaves nothing to be desired (although I do miss their soft serve ice cream machine). Their salad bar always has fresh vegetables with which to built a delicious salad. Even if you eat here with friends who don't necessarily care for Chinese food, they've got an excellent choice of American style foods such as pizza, meat loaf, fish, etc. I can't comment on the Sushi bar because I've never eaten from that area but their General Tso's is magnificent. Everything is always hot when it's supposed to be and cold when it's supposed to be cold. I've always found employee's attending the tables to be friendly and attentive. Living thru the Covid inspired shut down was rough because Katana's food is SO good. I very strongly recommend this restaurant but be forewarned... bring a hearty appetite. read more

First of all, was charged for dinner service, during lunch hours, during the previous visit. I called to verify the overcharge. I brought back the receipt for a refund, but since it did not have a time stamp, hostess said nothing she would do. Secondly, the staff is sitting at the table behind the hibachi station, eating their lunches. Not something I am used to seeing anywhere else. Any other time, they would be at a dining table. Third, some of the food(beef, noodles) was lukewarm at best, definitely seemed too cold for sanitary food service. Fourth, waitress did nothing but get our two drinks (once), and take away one dirty plate. Never saw her for service again. Fifth, the selection at the hibachi station has been reduced. We've gone here several times n our family seems to really like it. Kinda far from our place, but well worth it. PROs: Overall food is pretty good. Price reasonable. Service excellent. I try to be very understanding of todays economy.. but todays experience took the cake. The food was good, I took my daughters to lunch here and enjoyed the food. The waitresses were subpar at best. Being a buffet their job is minimal, keep drinks refilled and empty plates clear.. They refilled our waterd 1 time and we had to ask 3 times for them to refill our water. They were very slow at taking away plates. Whatever. But when we were leaving the "check tray" with fortune cookies had the word "TIP" written big on it. On Friday, April 28, 2023 around 7:15 PM. My husband and I were at Katanas Buffet and Grill. We noticed a large family being seated at a table that was meant to seat four people. This family consisted of the father, mother, and six children, two of those children were newborns. The babies were placed on the floor because there was nowhere to sit them. We watched this family struggle with trying to make space for all of them to sit. At one point they even asked a waitress could they be seated at another table that would accommodate them. The waitress replied, no you have to sit here. To make matters worse the family had two autistic sons who were overstimulated because of the situation, and just a pure excitement of being at the restaurant. I only know this because of my 27 years of experience working in special education. I could see the look of frustration on that poor mother's face just trying to keep her composure while her husband tries to pull chairs from other tables just to get his infants off the floor while the entire staff just stood there, and did nothing to accommodate this family other than to give them two high chairs to make them uncomfortable. A majority of the customers that were sitting in that area asked several waitresses to accommodate this family by moving a table that was right next to the family so that they could all sit together as a family. They were all told no if they want that table they would have to separate as a family. It was not a busy night and there were bigger tables in another section that would have accommodate the family. For some insane and ridiculous reason they chose to sit individuals in tight spaces. Quite frankly, it is extremely lazy that your waiting staff refuses to use the larger tables for bigger groups. There is an entire restaurant that is barely used. I could tell that my husband was disappointment with the how your staff chose to handle the situation. So, my husband took it upon himself to help the family, due to your staffs lack of incompetence. He got up and went over to the dad and told him that he would help him slide the table over so that he could sit with his family. That clearly got disapproval from your waiting staff they got upset because someone decided to do what they couldn't do, which is show some genuine compassion by being a human being who understands the family just wanted to have a nice meal together. Instead your extremely rude waitress told them to put the table back, which did not happen. When you are a waitress there are a list of job responsibilities one must do, but apparently that is not the case for your staff. I am beyond appalled at how the situation was handled. There was absolutely no need for your waitress to get the attention of went the cashier and a male worker from the kitchen to have them tell the family to put the tables back and if they do like it they can leave. This is not how restaurants work, this is not how businesses work. Your staff apparently requires people to leave tips for there appalling customers service, but yet do the bare minimum. There is absolutely no reason why multiple people in your establishment has to tell the Katana staff how to do their job and how wrong it was treat this family. For a restaurant to treat a family in such a way is ridiculous and to treat two special needs children, who were very excited in a horrible manner is appalling. I asked the cashier does she any idea of what it is like to deal with a child who is on the spectrum? She said no. I told her to put yourself in that mother shoes, and to have to be treated like that, and to be laughed at by the spectacle of workers while a waitress decides to bring people from the kitchen just because they wanted to have dinner as a family. You restaurant is not family friendly nor is it autistic friendly and I will never come back here. I do not recommend this establishment to anyone. Canton, Ohio has been in need of a good sushi buffet. The restaurant was clean and atmosphere nice. There is a moderate selection/variety of sushi and the quality is good-for a buffet- the pieces of sushi are cut into good sizes. They do not put sauces over the top of the sushi pieces. There was a sushi roll with yam in it..however it was good The trays of sushi stay full. If you are not into sushi there is a wide variety of other types of food for the whole family. My sister and I came in the restaurant and paid in the front and no one came to seat us to our table. Normally they will take you to your seat but no one greeted us. So my sister and I decided to seat ourselves in the back bc there a lot of us coming. And then our friends started coming and seated in the back and I asked if we can combine a table so we can all eat together rather than eat separately and it's hard to chat when you are not facing each other's. Diners beware if you choose to eat at this buffet. My husband and I ate there yesterday. When we finished our meal, and headed for the exit door, I was stopped by their "security", very loudly he said "Ma'am, a waitress witnessed you putting a salt shaker in your purse before you left the table!"
