Grilled cheese and their " house fries???"

Atmosphere was inviting, friendly, definitely a good vibe for a local spot. Great for breakfast and lunch. Prices are good. I ordered their Grilled cheese with whole wheat bread and tomatoes and basil amd pesto sauce, delicious. Service is just OK. My server was not very knowledgeable of menu. I asked what are my side choices, he said fruit, salad, or French fries. When I asked what is on the salad he hesitated, so I just ordered fries. When my plate came out it had roasted potatoes. I told him I ordered fries and he said " oh yea, those ARE the house fries ... sorry " im thinking these are not fries at all. So I ate the sandwich and left the potatoes. To get to bathroom you have to walk thru the small kitchen area. Not very safe. Im glad I tried this spot, cause Im always up for trying new things, but I dont think im coming back

great neighborhood brunch spot! the food took a little longer to come out but it wasn't too bad. the crab's benedict ($20) was decent, although you could tell the crab was canned (a bit dry and flaky). the french toast orgy ($17.50) was good but the orange-spiced flavor in the french toast was completely overwhelmed by the yogurt and granola

Kate's is a neighbourhood gem. The owner and wait staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The food is great breakfast and lunch fare, creative and everything is homemade from smoothies to sausage. My new favorite is the zaatar avocado toast. It comes with 2 eggs any style, home fries and feta and olive crumbles. Delicious and perfect in every way!

Independent little diner in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco. Warm, homey atmosphere with friendly service and a budget friendly menu.

Dined as a party of 3 for Sunday breakfast recently, but have been going here for years when I lived nearby. It's a quirky restaurant (you'll have to go through the kitchen to use the restroom) with a large mural of the United States. Aside from the printed menu, make sure to check the boards above the counter for seasonal or daily specials. Service was friendly and attentive. If you like sausage, get their house made sausage patty on the side of whatever you order! Yum!

I love this place so much, we came back with friends. I had the New England Flannel Hash (corned beef hash) again because it was so good last time, and it did not disappoint. My friend had the banana nut pancakes, and they were the size of the plate and did not skimp on bananas or nuts. Another friend had the Shakshuka with chicken and said it was delicious. Service is fast, and the food comes out hot. If you are in need of breakfast, would definitely recommend Kate's Kitchen.

Super cute and the service is amazing! So friendly from the minute we walked in. The food was delicious! They also have a variety of fresh squeezed juices and smoothies.

We went here for Sunday brunch, and were seated in less than 10 minutes. The server Melody was super friendly and was prompt at serving us. We ordered strawberry banana and lemon curd pancakes, vegetable scramble, a side of bacon and shakshuka. Everything was delicious and even the coffee was great. Not the water down diner kind!! The place is very homey and cozy. A little tight on space but the food is delicious. The service was also very friendly and we enjoyed the experience. Only small complaint is the bathroom. It could use a little update. This place is a definite gem and we will return.

Absolutely love this spot in SF for breakfast / brunch. The bacon cheddar pancakes are the best thing on the menu.

Is there outside seating, and if there is, is it dog-friendly?

Yes we out side seats and we love dogs

Saturday mornings, do you need to get there really early? Elderly parents coming in to town, looking for an easy place close by to eat.

It gets really busy after 10am

How is their Eggs Benedict? Specifically, the hollandaise sauce.

    House made fresh from scratch

Do they have gluten free pancakes?

Yes. Cornmeal and you have to ask for them. Biscuits too. We found them both to be really dry and didn't enjoy them.

The 2nd visit the service was impeccable, everything went exactly as we had hoped. We will be back. We can recommend the scallops and the Salmon, the chicken was very tasty. Also, for the food, I recommend the dips and the fresh pitas, so good. We'll be back just for that. Reminds me of the old Berkeley restaurant years ago, Holy Land (IYKYK). Mmmm. Thanks!

The sandwich comes with a small dressed salad and three tomato halves. It was nice. The potatoes served with the sandwich were roasted but served cold and dry. Like they were left over from the night before. Randy enjoyed his mocha. We shared a very dry, flavorless except for the two small bits of jam in them, "cheese" danish. Definitely skip this $7 item that you could get at a circle k for $1.50 and it would taste fresher. You order when you walk in and someone delivers your order and then you're left to fend for yourself. We were able to locate some ketchup for the potatoes on our own. Nobody ever checked on us. This is the second place on this visit that's charging an extra 5% fee so that their employees can have a living wage and health insurance, which absolutely, every employee should have. With the prices they charge, they should already be able to do that, though. I read an article about this fee with many different names and I would rather pay a bit higher of a price and know the employees were taken care of than be surprised by this fee later. Two sandwich breakfasts, a mocha and a danish on top of tax and their healthy sf fee was $63. Steep for the quality we got. Won't be back.

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. But I feel comfortable coming here in shorts and a t-shirt. The staff is always welcoming. I also go to the Los Altos Grill which is the same restaurant as Hillstone. The menu is pretty much the same, but the service at Hillstone is just excellent.

Then they said "please don't move around so we can get the right food to you" which, like fine but that's not the reason they didn't want us to move. You're aiming for a hoity toity atmosphere, we can move plates around. There's an obnoxious but unenforced dress code (no jerseys then someone came in with a jersey and was as seated, no baseball hats...), but the straw that broke the camels back was when the hostess asked me to stay seated while I was seated. My 4 year old needed entertainment as we were paying the bill, we were in our last few minutes there and she told me that I had to stay in my seat. Which I was. They didn't get the order right for said 4 year old: hamburger, no cheese. Showed up with cheese. If you don't want kids in your restaurant, just turn people away. But also you're on the Embarcadero, not in a fancy neighborhood. Overpriced by 20%.
