I'd give this a 4.5, but the tots put it over the top. I love Bender's, so good food next to my whiskey is an easy sell. Bender's itself is a kinda gritty dive with pool tables and music sometimes, but this is about Overkill! You order at their counter and they bring it out to your seat. The Classic Schnitz is a hefty fried chicken cutlet dressed on an Acme sesame bun. Crispy and delicious. At this size it puts other chicken sandwiches to shame. The Bent Tots: so good! Bacon, cheese, lettuce, pickled jalapeños, and special sauce. Perfectly crunchy and non-oily tots. Lemme tell ya. We got another dish of plain tots because they were so good.

Incredible bar food! We were pleasantly surprised at the delicious, fresh offerings here. Portions were great and prices were good. My partner is from Sichuan and the Sichuan flavors were legit and so mala was on point! Burger ($12) was good but the Sichuan chicken schnitzel with noodles was bomb! Server was thoughtful and helpful - good to note that this is in a dive bar!

Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Amazing food! The place is hidden in Bender's Bar and Grille. They had a special event the day I went where they served BBQ from an older restaurant. The brisket BBQ was amazing and paired perfectly with the potato salad. The mac salad was a little too tangy/salty but Hawaiian bun helped dial it down

    The crew!!

Always so happy whenever my mom and I go here, the food is always so delicious…read more My favorite appetizer is the cesar salad, it's so delicious, refreshing and the crunch of the lettuce is perfect. I'm not the biggest calamari fan, but it comes with a lot of calamari and it's pretty good as well. Onto the pasta, my favorite used to be the Spicy Rigatoni but the Shrimp Scampi is just perfect! It's so heart warming and heavy, it's such an interesting pasta. The shrimp is also very good and they provide a few pieces and it's not too much, or too little. The service is also great, they consistently check in to make sure you're helped and have everything you need. The environment is also very nice, the seating ranges from outside with or without heaters, inside at either tables or booths and also a bar. My personal favorites are either the booth, indoor table or outdoor seating on a sunny day. This place is will forever be an SF staple and I can't wait to celebrate more birthdays here.

So we zoomed off and came back around for the parking space. All clear. We parked and cautiously walked to the restaurant. We walked in, oh, its a hofbrau! Never knew that. The staff was friendly and took our orders. :) BBQ brisket plate with mash potatoes and coleslaw - mash was wonderful, the brisket was tender but the slaw could had used more sweetness and tang. 4 Stars :) Cornbread plate with mash and slaw. The cornbread was very good. 4 Stars The decor was flea market whacky. Definitely had its own personality in a cool way. Glad I was finally able to try this institution of San Francisco. I had a delicious hot roast beef sandwich covered in gravy. It was one of the most comforting dishes I have ever had. I remember coming to Tommy's many times over the last two decades and trying everything from their oxtail stew to their meatloaf to their lasagna. Everything here is good! On my most recent visit I got to try their lamb shank with boiled potatoes and carrots. The lamb shank perfectly fell off the bone and the fat melted in your mouth. The gravy was very flavorful. The only thing I found underwhelming were the potatoes as they could've cooked a little longer. The service at the counter is always very good and quick! These guys have been working this counter for a long time. The place still feels a little like a dive bar, but that's all part of the charm of this historical eatery.

We sat down and the hostess proceeded to tell my son and I that we would need to take our hats off "in the dining room." Mind you again this is lunch, the restaurant is full of kids and tourists. Take aback a bit my son and I took our hats off to reveal the hair you would expect from 2 people that just came off a boat and a tour of Alcatraz. As she walked away we noticed another gentleman had his has on 2 tables down. We found it odd so I asked the hostess if there was a reason he was allowed to be wearing a hat. She immediately got very indignant with me and remarked "it's a request we make." To which I responded..."ok so we can wear our hats" again very rude and smug and indignant she replied "yes but my son must wear it forward and not backward." Ok so why not just make that request? But again this is tourist central, at lunch time, in a restaurant that's in my mind a marginally upscale BJs. Please get over yourself "Hillstone" We then proceeded to sit and watch a minimum of 3 women all come in with hats on of different sorts. Large brim, beret etc. NONE OF THEM had the same request made of them. Completely absurd. Ok moving on, next issue. I was already annoyed but ordered the omelette. "Cheese and herbs" were the ingredients. Ok no problem I'll ask them to add some meat or bacon to it, they have those things in other menu items, shouldn't be an issue...or so you'd think. So the waiter returns and I order the omelette and say "can you please just add some bacon to it, I see you have bacon in the salads" to which the waiter responds. "No I'm sorry we can't do it. It's a composed recipe we don't like to change, but I'll be happy to give you bacon on the side." Uh what? Your customer just requested bacon and you won't do it because you like the recipe the way it is?!?! So yah maybe they make it some special way? Ok omelette shows up and it's literally a thin rolled egg with goat cheese... bland as can be, and NO I don't want the bacon on the side. Hillstone needs to recognize it's not a high end restaurant... it's in a tourist area, and guess what. A hat is a hat... women's, men's, forward or backward and at lunch you gotta expect people to be dressed casual. You're ok with kids sitting watching cartoons full blast on cellphones, you're ok with women in tennis outfits... but somehow a nice ball cap lowers the level of your clientele? Well not to worry you definitely have one less family now that you have to worry about in your restaurant. Also as a side note... ordering a soda in a restaurant nowadays (especially one with a bar) is pretty standard fare to have refills.... Vs tiny glass bottles and $5 per refill. This place is an epic fail!! Only reason it gets 2 stars is that my son liked his salmon. That's it.

We decided to go to lunch at Gott's Roadside. It is my "go-to" spot when I am near the Chase Center! I love their big menus, the "big wordings", colorful deco, and there are lots of seatings in the inside/outside. I always order my usual, the Cali chicken without red onions and Jack cheese. I find it more healthier than the gourmet burgers that they have on the menu. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. They take their time to explain their menu and special.
