I have never in my life had a pear smoothie. It was so simple yet easily one of the most delicious smoothies I've ever had. I literally could taste all of the ingredients from the pears, pineapple juice to the bee pollen to the ginger to the agave.... just amazing! I also got to try the kale krush smoothie. It was earthy and very filling. I would choose this smoothie again if I was looking for somewhat of a meal replacement smoothie. The customer service was great and I loved being able to sit next to the window to enjoy the pool breeze inside of the cafe. The café itself is small yet spacious. It was a great place for me to catch up on some reading and to complete some work. It felt like everything was sloppily slapped on without care; case in point it was supposed to come with a full pickle on the side and it did not, instead 2 tiny little slices of pickle INSIDE the sandwich - ugh. I first came here as part of TotMW many moons ago, probably during the Obama Administration. I positively single-handedly completely and wholly enjoyed whatever it was I ordered. It was delicious. Overpriced even by 2015 or 2014--or was it even earlier?--standards, but definitely tasty and worth it and sneakily good. I have returned and have enjoyed myself, but not quite as much. Then I moved to the Mission, and I moseyed on over here after work ended early one day, and I was so looking forward to a leisurely early dinner and book or magazine read, and you know what? They were closed! Before five p.m. Maybe they've since lengthened their hours, and I know it's tough to run a restaurant in San Francisco, but five p.m.? No one's coming to your cafe, because it's never open. It needs better hours. It does have cute graphics, as do its three sister "Park" restaurants. Maybe one day I'll visit all four. Convenient, cute cafe at the corner of Dolores Park! I usually stop by for a quick snack before heading over to hang outs in the park. My favorite is the bagel (which they warm) with PB&J, since it's pretty quick and hits the "picnic-y" spot. If you want to sit, they've got outdoor and indoor seating. Service is quick and friendly. Cute cafe right across from Dolores park. My partner clans I came here for breakfast and a coffee one weekday during the heat wave. Service was prompt and super friendly. I ordered an iced lavender latte and my partner ordered a breakfast burrito with tater tots. We sat outside which was really nice. Our order came pretty quickly. My latte was super cute and pretty looking. It wasn't an amazing lavender latte but was still fine. Even after stirring thoroughly, I feel like the lavender flavor went away after a few sips. It's also on the less sweet side which isn't a personal preference of mine. I ended up sharing the breakfast burrito and tater tots with my husband. I think it left some things to be desired. Dolores Park Cafe has a spectacular view of Mission Dolores Park. That view does come with downsides. Don't lose the thread because of the downsides. * * * The sandwiches taste fantastic here. The sandwiches however are very messy. The cooks may have passed their classes at cooking school. The cooks did not pass any courses in Architecture or Civil Engineering. The sandwiches are stuffed full of items that do not balance on each other. The sandwiches are kind of like an upside down pyramid. Everything falls all over the place as soon as one starts to eat. Some people will fight with their sandwich trying to keep everything where it actually belongs. Some people will rebuild the sandwich only to have to rebuild it again every four seconds or so. Some people will figure on having to go to a dry cleaner. They will just turn stoic and wear the remainders of their sandwich until they get a chance to go home and change. I personally redefined my sandwich as a salad with a lot of bread. I dumped things on my plate. I ate it with a fork. I felt very San Francisco intellectual. San Francisco intellectuals do a lot of deconstruction. I deconstructed my sandwich in true postmodernist style. I escaped a problematized reification of Enderwickian rectilinearity in alimentary praxis with a suitable interrogation of the dynamic redistribution of comestible components in experiential consumption-time-space, I felt strangely un-liberated by the process. Still, the sandwich tasted good, so what the hell. * * * Other notes. 1) The sauces on the sandwiches and the basic combos in the sandwiches are first rate. 2) They do a wonderful muddy espresso 3) They do a terrible drip coffee. Not even warm. Drip Coffee is the neglected sibling of most indy coffee houses. In family therapy, what happens when one sibling gets all the praise, love and attention and the other sibling is totally ignored? * * * That said, even if you are drinking mediocre drip coffee, And even looking at a salad-y untidiness on your plate, You look up and you see all the wonders of Mission Dolores Park. All of those handsome bare chested men. All of that sun shining on Spanish and Victorian architecture. All of those Mission District residents outdoors and happy None of any of the stuff I was complaining about will matter. * * * Your plate is messy. So is life. Great portions of pastrami, but it was missing the sweet/sour balance to counter the saltiness of the meat via mustard, pickles, etc. It did come out with a small piece of plastic wrap on it :/ Service 3/5: Standard for a busy cafe, but didn't really offer recommendations on which items were good when asked. Vibe 4/5: Nice views next to Dolores. Huge windows with good light. The stools were a little uncomfortable tho if ur coming here to work for a while. I came in for a coffee but left with a really bland lukewarm water... ugh. The worst. I thought are they closing? It's only noon... so I debated- "do I just drink it or go back?" Usually I just grin and bear it but I'm trying to "speak up for myself more (without being a dick)" & at 5$ I just could not drink this sweetened tan water. So I did go back.... (A win for me) An added level of difficulty is that I am deaf. I can hear some things some times and read lips really well- but most people don't articulate (its very funny what I can come up with that is definitely not what was said ) The barista/cashier was surprised that the coffee was so awful & offered an Americano (which I don't care for). I'm a connoisseur of batch brew verses pour over or lattes -or at least that's what I tell myself instead of thinking I'm just cheap. She was definitely trying to help but a line started to form and I needed time to think. Agh the stress the stress- my mind goes blank, my eyes start darting in all different directions. Then obtrusive thoughts :Is my dog ok? Is my fly down? Am I being a total dick? - she's just staring at me. Waiting for me to say something. Uh. Uh. so how does a man tell a woman to go away -politely!! I NEED MORE TIME!!! With a point at the line, a smile & ASL "think/understand" she understood i needed a minute & she should go about her job. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. I type out on my phone notepad- can I have a refund? I'm not that dumb) Lightening speed thumb movements- clickity clackity (I assume) I began to read what seemed like hours for her to type: "I can brew a fresh pot." Woh. Like the clouds in my mind parted, angels flapped around and I said YES!! Yes please! but....it will be 10 minutes.... Hmm. Well. We have come this far together- I will wait. And in the right hand corner of my mind 2 little hands in a black circle sign out- "this better be some good goddamn coffee" Well. To bring this non-fiction tale of woe to an end. Yes. The fresh brew was an immediate rush to my senses. Hot, lovely fresh aroma of coffee beanery. With a little sweetener and a dash of dairy - i was completely satisfied. The iced jasmine tea was really good! I got the veggie sandwich as a wrap, and it was pretty good, but I couldn't even tell there was a tapenade in it. My friends and I came to this establishment for brunch. We ordered bottomless mimosas. We set a timer for their 2 hour limit right when we ordered, YET - they cut us off about 1.5 hours before our end time. We weren't drunk or tipsy, but we were still cut off because the worker made the call to cut us off anyways. This is definitely calculative and we didn't get our moneys worth. Cleanliness is such an important aspect of any establishment, so when the first thing I noticed was how appealingly clean the cafe was to the guests and customers I was very pleased! I always find restaurants next to large tourist hubs or local attractions tend to be so low quality. Dolores park cafe is not only quality, but it's lively location adds to how good the food is! Great food becomes amazing when the vibe is right. I enjoyed my coffee and my morning bun was amazing, and seeing the endless amounts of sandwiches was exciting and tantalizing. Their hummus is memorable and enjoyable! With a limited amount of wall outlets but a prime location this cafe is more than worth while. I had an off encounter with one of the employees, she seemed in a rush and may have been having an off day, but everyone else who worked there greeted me with kindness. The Tahai Tea tasty nasty over the years. I'm sorry, but I've been here for the past year and always order the Thai tea and pastrami sandwich. I am a regular here and I appreciate the staff so much and the food is consistently delicious! I've tried a lot of the menu, and some of my favs are the avocado toast, the kale crush smoothie is so bomb, the egg Sando, the lox bagel, the adult grilled cheese and tomato soup (omg so effing good), the hummus plate, the Buddha bowl. The cold brew is strong and delicious and the pastries are always fresh and generously sliced. I love the vegan donuts and the morning bun is super flakey and the bread loafs are incredibly moist and spiced well! I really appreciate the environment of the big windows and outside seating too. I work nearby and I love to step out and come here to have a seat and eat or work or caffeinate too bc I always feel like I'm in a lil European cafe or something, romanizing my life! I'm the first to admit I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but until recently, I didn't realize this was part of a mini-chain of four Park Cafes. I had been to the other three. The one I frequent the most is Precita Park Cafe as their staff is pretty chill and the park itself is a low-key bastion for toddlers and dog owners (review: https://bit.ly/3dV6ygv). Dolores Park has a more youthful and dare I say, hipster ambiance. This vibe spilled over to the cafe. That meant it was usually quite crowded with seating that's not easily spaced apart. I think it also spills over to their staff whom I've found on two separate occasions to be rather inhospitable. The first time it just seemed to be related to how busy they were, but the second was related to a pushy woman who asked that tables be moved around to accommodate her klatch. Neither the woman nor the server appeared to care that I didn't finish making my order. He failed to acknowledge me and simply went away to ask other staff members whether they can move tables around. I'm usually cool about these kinds of mishaps, but somehow it didn't feel right. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention what i had - a $2.75 cup of House Coffee with a $3.50 slice of Carrot Loaf on the first visit (photo: https://bit.ly/3B93zwe) and a $3 Nutter Butter on the second (photo: https://bit.ly/3VNV15V). After driving around for 40 min. looking for parking and sweating out the street cleaner folks, I finally found parking. I was desperate and hungry. My go to breakfast item is the Dolores Egg Sandwich ($9.95), which I have had a number of times. Scrambled Egg, Cheddar, Bacon, Tomato, On English Muffin with Black Pepper Aioli. What was different this time is it was "open face". Hm, when I asked the cashier he said "it's on the sign" at which I replied, which sign, his reply "outside". We've changed a few things. Photo looked the same to me.Guess they are no longer making it a "closed sandwich" unless it's to go. Very, very difficult to eat as the 4 skinny slices of tomato, 2 skinny strips of bacon cut in 1/4's sitting on top of the tomato, just kept falling off. Not to mention the muffin was dry as a bone, no butter, no aioli, nada . So I did get some aioli on the side, but it was somewhat disappointing. This is not how I perceive a "sandwich". Guess I now need to "ask", can I have it as a sandwich. I say, please bring back the old sandwich, just as it was and be sure to add the required sauce. Sorry, another bone of contention, the front door is wide open, tables, chairs, silverware all freezing, not to mention the cold air coming in which cools off a meal and coffee in just a few minutes. The smell when you walk in front invites you to go in and order. I had the Avocado Toast and added the bacon because the smell of bacon was so inviting... The best bacon I had in a long time. My plane was delayed on January 31 and then replaced with a smaller plane. As we started loading, I asked the guy taking the tickets if we would still be served a meal in first class. He said no because it is a small plane. I went quickly because Next to the the gate, is Dolores Park Cafe, so I bought a turkey sandwich for me and a Caesar Roll for my daughter. My sandwich was not fresh at all. It had a couple of thin package-type turkey lunch meat, a piece of lettuce, and a tomato slice. That's it. The bread was so dry it crumbled and fell apart trying to hold it. Daughter said she couldn't eat the Caesar Roll that is was tasteless. It wasn't worth eating and especially over priced at $32. Dolores Park Cafe is right on the corner of Mission Dolores Park, and is a great cafe to chill by the park! The location and views from this cafe are really nice. There's a ton of natural lighting and a good amount of window seating available here, for a really pleasant cafe experience. I ordered the Chai Latte and it came out extremely quickly. While it was good, I wouldn't say it was anything spectacular. It was still a pretty fair price for a Chai Latte in San Francisco. I could definitely see myself coming back, given the convenient location, great atmosphere, and kind service. Would recommend checking it out! read more
