    Chicken - Fried Steak & 2 Eggs

Delicious, friendly, cozy, and welcoming. I've eaten here before, but it has been years. I had the chicken fried steak and it was cooked to perfection. The gravy had a fantastic seasoning and the chicken was delicious. I can't remember the name of the guy that took care of me, but he was friendly, personable, and knew the menu. I do have a picture of of the meal, but sadly I forgot to take a picture before I started eating.

We came here as a family. We couldn't sit together, so we just split up in the same area and had breakfast. Everything was pretty darn tasty, and the service couldn't have been better. It is just a very unique place, it's covered with blinking lights and is so colorful. It's one of the oldest gay bars in the Castro. My brother-in-law is gay, and he wanted to come, and we all had a wonderful time, and the people who work there were so sweet and kind. Well, we couldn't ask for more, and if you're in the area, you should stop by. Cheers, my friends and SYOY 02/01/26

I went to Orphan Andy's for the first time yesterday and loved it so much. The decor was so bright and festive and the interior itself gave off a warm, cozy vibe. I truly believe it's the perfect spot if you're looking to get into the Christmas spirit. Overall, I felt like the customer service was great. The servers were very attentive and would stop by a few times to make sure we had enough tea/coffee. They were sweet and friendly which made us feel very comfortable. As for the food, I got a jalapeño burger w/ grilled onions and a side of onion rings. The portion size was pretty decent and the burger itself was delicious. I thought it was cooked very well and I could've ate another one, but I would've definitely entered a food coma.

This San Francisco institution for a late night after drinking in the wee hours is better and better as the years roll by. From living here years ago as a young guy to my quarterly visits from the U.K., Orphan Andy's has been a haunt of some sort for the last 30+ years. The late night country fried steak and eggs with pancakes and maple syrup gets better and better. The staff are just lovely, some of whom I recognise, and vice versa, from a bygone era. Orphan Andy's is a fond memory for me and for my sister, and I hope this brilliant landmark continues to reign for many years to come.

A neighborhood diner/restaurant with some 24 hour days, classic menus all well made and big portions. The wait staff could not be nicer. I wish I lived closer

Classic SF diner experience. The interior was so cute I felt like I was in a retro movie scene. The server was nice and the cake was good. We got the sour cream chocolate cake topped with ice cream. A simply nostalgic feel all around. I have passed by this place so many times and I appreciate the ever changing decorations that never lack in bring whimsical.

Orphan Andy's is quite the experience. The restaurant space is small and the old fashioned diner decor is super fun. I would like to visit again. The last time was in 2016 about 9 years ago. Classic diner food with a different twist. The interior was fun. How could all of San Francisco fit inside this one old diner? Eggs, pancakes, and orange juice. Open 24 hours.

Orphan Andy's has amazing Christmas decor that you must see! The vibe in here is crazy with the retro diner fixtures, including a quarter-operated jukebox that I believe doesn't work anymore. The retro booths and bar made me feel like I was in a movie. I wish it snowed in San Francisco because that vibe would've been inside. Imagine snow on the window while enjoying some warm diner food! Now I wouldn't say the food was AMAZING or anything. It's diner food, and it did what it needed to do. I did enjoy the hotcakes for being kind of chewy. And of course the root beer float was great, which it always is. Service is great here. The staff is super personable! Prices are average for San Francisco I'd say (so on the upper end). Our bill for two was $60.

A great place to eat throughout the day (and night). The vibes are great inside - there is lots of rainbow lighting, vintage lamps, and various idiosyncrasies that make this spot feel welcoming and special. The employees there were very friendly, and the portions were really big. I got the pulled pork sandwich (good but not great, which is why I didn't give 5 stars). I'll likely be back when I'm in the area :)

I love dining there! I go there first. I do keto, so I usually get the steak or chops as sides.

Ask the Community - Orphan Andy's

Will you be open on Thanksgiving?

I don't believe they are. I called 2023 and they were not. However, check a few days before.

    Do I need a reservation?

    Nope

    Hi, where can I park?

Metered parking or you can try your luck a few blocks into the neighborhood for free 2 hour parking

Do they serve breakfast all day?

Breakfast is served at all hours. Some dinner choices are only available from 4-10 pm. But if you can tolerate potato salad or fries instead of mashed potatoes with your steak or pork chops, you can have dinner in the morning.

Always so happy whenever my mom and I go here, the food is always so delicious…read more My favorite appetizer is the cesar salad, it's so delicious, refreshing and the crunch of the lettuce is perfect. I'm not the biggest calamari fan, but it comes with a lot of calamari and it's pretty good as well. Onto the pasta, my favorite used to be the Spicy Rigatoni but the Shrimp Scampi is just perfect! It's so heart warming and heavy, it's such an interesting pasta. The shrimp is also very good and they provide a few pieces and it's not too much, or too little. The service is also great, they consistently check in to make sure you're helped and have everything you need. The environment is also very nice, the seating ranges from outside with or without heaters, inside at either tables or booths and also a bar. My personal favorites are either the booth, indoor table or outdoor seating on a sunny day. This place is will forever be an SF staple and I can't wait to celebrate more birthdays here.

For those of us who only eat outdoors, there are a few tables outside the bar that are pretty comfortable although it can get windy. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted with friendliness, all of the menus we might need, and an explanation of drinks, beer and wine. We chose to go all out and got a small pizza, their delicious onion dip, meatballs - more on that later - and buffalo wings. I was a bit disappointed that the happy hour wine was a Chardonnay and not the Ferentino that they let me taste, but the replacement house May logger was delicious. My husband had a steam beer, which was also very good. Throughout the service was impeccable, and we actually met the manager, Jon, who had a long conversation with us about the history of the bar and how they were trying to be a neighborhood comfortable place which they certainly have succeeded at. Now for the food - the meatballs were the best I have ever had in San Francisco and I am Italian from New York so that's saying something. We actually let Jon know who told the chef and it turns out the chef is from New Jersey so that makes a lot of sense. The onion dip is something like I've never had before. It's a crème fraîche with scallions I think? And maybe a bit of garlic and housemaid chips. We ate every single bite and actually dipped our pizza crust in the rest of the dip. The margarita pizza was also very good and as I finished it off for lunch today, I can tell you it's just as good the next day. The buffalo wings were what I would call actual buffalo style - I could taste the butter, hot sauce and garlic powder like back in the day on the East Coast. The chicken itself was good, not fatty, and the sauce was just like I want it. They offered ranch and blue cheese dip, which was great. We then had further conversations with almost all the staff who were so welcoming and friendly. We don't live super nearby, but I know we're going to go back to dinner, because I am dying to get their pork chop that looked really good. They also came and helped us put the stuff in boxes and explained the best way to take pizza home, which I never knew before. I can't wait to go back again
