I ended up eating mine and most hers over three days. Then I had diarrhea for a couple weeks. The service was good and waited while they cooked to order. This is our 2nd visit to Kathmandu. First time was in the evening. It looks different during the day, but still colorful. We ordered take-out which included Onion Pakora, Gobi Manchurian, Garlic Naan, Paratha, Chicken Curry and Chicken Vindaloo. Saman was our friendly, patient order taker. There were 11 diners here at noon time. We got take out and food was ready in about 10 minutes. The owner/chef wasn't in today and it was evident. The Gobi Manchurian wasn't what I expected and wouldn't order it again. The Onion Pakora's were okay, not as good as last time. My Chicken Vindaloo and my wife's Chicken Curry were on the watery side, not thick gravy like last time. The Garlic Naan was okay, not as good as last time. The Paratha was very greasy, not what I expected, but it worked out when I baked it for leftovers. Kathmandu was my favorite Indian/Nepalese restaurant, but on this visit not so much. There is another Indian restaurant closer to home I haven't tried that will get a chance to be my favorite next time I choose to order Indian food. Proceed with precaution: While I highly recommend this business, I do recommend asking for your itemized check - as they normal ask for your card, only showing the total. In the past, the total has always been way over but the language barrier causes an issue with being unable to see the iitemized receipt. I've always let that pass until this week. I was pressured to order food hours before our reservation. I eventually caved and ordered two plates of momos, totaling $18. At checkout, I was charged over $30. This was because staff decided to do a double order and not tell me. I was very confused and finally paid since communication wasn't working. I spoke with the owner today and she admitted they charge more and double an order when people order. Its very confusing, and disappointing. We've been avid supporters, both financially and verbally since moving here eleven years ago. Please be mindful to your loyal customers, as this rubbed me the wrong way and now explains why our tickets have always been $15-$20 more than what they should have been. It's sneaky and intentional (they admitted to it). I'll support in the future but will no longer order weekly. read more

YUM! We chose this restaurant for takeout on a whim and it was the best decision we could've made. I actually read a lot of Yelp reviews to decide on what I order and was glad I did! We ordered the chilli chicken, lamb saag, raita, fried momos and garlic naan. EVERYTHING was amazing! We got the chilli chicken in mild and the lamb saag in medium. The medium was definitely quite spicy but I loved it. I wish I did both medium. Both entrees were delicious! The raita was perfect to counter the spicy bites. Honestly I could drink this stuff. This was my first time trying momos and they were really good. The sauce made the dish We ordered to to-go but still had a wonderful experience with the staff. Friendly, efficient and helpful. This place was on a side street. You would have to specifically be looking for this place to get to it. The service was pretty slow. After we ordered, the food seemed like it took forever to come out. We went on a Monday and maybe that's a slower day for them. The food was delicious though. I got the chicken vindaloo with medium spice. It was really good. The kid got chicken wings and fries. He said his was really good too. Said it tasted like Kroger chicken lol which he likes. Oh my god! I just had the best chicken chow mein of my life! It was out of this world. If you love spicy food, I highly recommend trying chicken chow mein. I'm pretty sure this restaurant used to be called Mt. Everest way back when and was located in another part of Bardstown Rd. At the time when I went, it was super new. Now, this place has renamed themselves and is located over by Borsalino's. The parking lot is a little weird, since there aren't tons of spots and it shares with Borsalino's. The space inside is small. They can seat a lot of groups, but I can see it filling up fast. When my friends and I came for lunch around 1:00 on Friday, lots of people were dining in. They left a jug of water on the table for us. This was needed since some of our food was spicy! They have 3 spice levels: mild, medium, and spicy. I ordered the chicken thukpa mild, while another friend ordered the paneer mild. My two other friends ordered theirs medium. They got the chicken biryani and the veggie chowmein. We shared veg momo and the aloo paratha (a bread with potato in it). Medium heat was too spicy for us! We were sweating and drinking our water to mitigate the hot hot spice! Wow! Portions are generous here, so you could easily split a meal with someone. Prices aren't bad either. Service was good and food didn't take too long to be brought out to us. We stopped for dinner here while visiting in town and wanted something other than regular bar food. It was a little farther away than other places but I trusted the high ratings from 200 other people and was not disappointed. We got vegetable mo-mo appetizer, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and butter naan. They were all very well spiced and tastier than I have had at other subcontinental restaurants. The way the flavors melded together was so smooth and deep. Mo-mos were new to me as this restaurant is Nepalese rather than strictly Indian. Wow! I will seek them out from now on. I liked the steamed variety better than the fried, but they were both great. Two entrees for three people was more than enough. The small amount of leftovers was a fantastic breakfast today! The staff was so friendly and took the time to chat with us before we left. We were there just before closing but were not rushed in the slightest. I highly recommend Kathmandu. read more

We were seated immediately at a comfy booth, and given plenty of time to peruse the menu. We ordered steamed vegetable mo mo (GET THESE) for a starter, which was absolutely the right choice. Whenever I'm in a new city, I scour the food scene for the venerable, the unique, and the diamonds in the rough. Kathmandu Kitchen is a diamond. This small, out of the way, Nepalese and Indian eatery is some of the best food of it's kind I have had in the U.S. My party feasted on samosa chaat and devoured the expertly steamed chicken momo with achar before devouring our entrees. The chicken korma was creamy and had just a kiss of sweet. It reminded me of a cross between a mahkni and a korma in the best way. Another of us had lamb saag which possessed a depth of spinach flavor that perfectly accompanied the tender lamb pieces. As for me, I had the Nepalese goat curry (khasi ko masu) and was taken seriously when I asked for it to be very spicy. It was delicious - it engaged that spicy adrenaline taste bud thing where you can't stop eating until it's all gone. I don't know what else I can do to convince you about how good this place is other than to say it will haunt my dreams as I return home where the best Indian food comes from my own kitchen. A final note: the owners and staff are incredibly friendly and they work hard to take care of you! read more

We made a find. A Nepali restaurant near the Wallitsch Nursery in Louisville which was our primary destination. We each had a Paneer dish. My wife ordered spinach paneer and I ordered a cheese paneer. Delicious!. The regular hot tea on the menu turned out to be a spiced tea similar to what we would call Masala tea. Pleasant surprise. The Naan bread was good. I also had a scrumptious Mango fruit juice. Total bill including a 20% tip about $50. Seems to be a family run place. Nice staff. We will return. read more

Amazing and delicious!! Some of, if not the best, authentic dishes had in this region. It's just the type of establishment foodies seek out. It's slightly off the beaten path in somewhat nondescript and unassuming location. Upon entering the unique smell and distinct combination of spices welcomes and further indicates you've come to the right place! I would categorize their curry dishes as very flavorful with almost a thick 'stew like' consistency. The chicken curry, possible the best!! This is my favorite restaurant in Louisville. It's tucked away on a little street off of Bardstown Road in a small unassuming space. The service is excellent. Our server was very friendly and attentive without hovering. He specifically asked about food allergies. I greatly appreciated that. This place boasts an incredible vegetarian menu. The vegetarian samosas are flavorful and filling, wrapped in a light and crisp crust. The vegetable mo-mo is a delight. The onion pakora is deep fried heaven served with the best tamarind chutney that I have ever tasted. The vegetable chow mein is amazing. The veggies are crisp and fresh. The noodles are coated with a complex sauce that zings and sings. I will happily make the trip from Southern Indiana for the chow mein. The portion is huge so there's enough for lunch the next day. The kadai (cheese, chicken, lamb, and goat available) is a beautiful mosaic of spices that dance on the tongue. I'll be back. Just as soon as I finish the take-out box of chow mein. read more

This small restaurant is slightly off Bardstown Rd. at the corner of it and Bradford. It's in the row of buildings that house a few ecclectic, ethnic restaurants. It is relatively new and has only been open for a few months. I ordered the MoMo Chicken (steamed) and talked to the owner while I waited for the dish to be prepared. Because I ordered it steamed and not fried, I knew that it would take a little longer to prepare. As I waited for the dumplings, I watched the flurry of activity as people entered the restaurant and the serving staff accommodated them and other patrons with drinks and food. Because I did not plan to dine at the restaurant, I stepped out of the way of the staff and began to survey the other parts of the restaurant/bar. While waiting for the dumplings to be steamed, I walked into the bar area. In this area was a pool table and other forms of game entertainment that are available for late-night use. Because I have not been here late night (after 10p), I cannot speak to the goodness or badness of the atmosphere at that time of day. But I can talk about the food during the evening. It is phenomenal so far. The owners are very friendly, the service is quite adequate and the food is amazing in taste and texture. I can't imagine that the quality of the food changes throughout the day. So, it should be great anytime you choose to visit. Because I've visited the restaurant a number of times, the owners recognize me and we have a great camaraderie. I enjoy the food, the relaxed atmosphere and the convenient location. Fabulous food! We visited Kathmandu Kitchen and were greeted warmly and seated quickly. We ordered combo veggie and chicken steamed Mo Mo and Kitchen Special Biryani with goat, lamb, shrimp and chicken. Both dishes were cooked fresh and when they arrived at our table I knew we had two winners even before the first bite. The Mo Mo were perfectly steamed and so delicious. The sauce was a perfect complement. The Kitchen Special Biryani was one beautiful plate of piled high goodness!!! We ordered mild with just a touch extra spice. Both dishes exceeded our expectations. The owners thanked us for coming and genuinely cared about the quality and presentation of their dishes. We are already planning another trip to Kathmandu Kitchen. The menu has so many interesting dishes. Needless to say our leftovers didn't last for long. Highly recommend. Restaurant was very clean. Service was prompt and friendly. I always use Yelp to read reviews about businesses but rarely write one. I will sadly be moving to another state soon, and I can EASILY say Kathmandu Kitchen was in my top 5 favorite restaurants in Louisville. We ordered so much food last night, and as a person who likes to take photos of delicious meals, I FORGOT because I was so busy chowing down. First of all, the family that owns the restaurant is amazing and so welcoming. Service is 5/5 and you can genuinely feel that it is a family-run business. We always have fun conversations every time we visit. The food: You can physically see and taste all the spices and hard work that went into making your dish amazing. Even the Nepali tea was so flavorful and had a sediment of spices at the bottom of the cup when it was all gone. The malai kofka, kordai, shrimp biryani, chaat... everything is mouthwatering and delicious. I had to order take-out so I could eat it for the rest of this week before I leave LOL. I'm really going to miss this place and the memories of enjoying such a wonderful meal with the people I came with each time. Thank you for all the great times! We were craving for something new and we havent had before! We found this place through Yelp. So glad we did. The food is amazing!! Our server was really nice too. We had a good chat and exchanged stories about how we immigrated to America. Everyone here was truly hospitable. Every thing we ordered was delicious as well. About 6 different dishes, my fave was the one thats similar to chiken tikka and this fried, round flat crispy appetizer. I also appreciate that he gave us a variety of condiments which was all delicious!!! My fave was the yogurt based dip. It's just hard for me to remember the names because it was our first time trying Nepalese cuisine. We almost took a trip to Nepal through food. We just hope to visit Kathmandu someday!! read more

Kathmandu is a real neighborhood gem. The restaurant sits on a tiny strip/plaza next to a mini mart and Borsalino cafe. This is my second time here and I was blown away (again) so I had to write a review. For lunch, we got Malai Kofta and Chicken Vindaloo. The chicken vindaloo is a thick stew with a tomato base and made with hearty chunks of potato. The lunch portions included a takeout container of basmati rice. Malai Kofta is amazing! The sauce is made from soaked cashews so it was smooth, creamy, and velvety. In our takeout container, there were maybe 4-5 cheese balls in the Malai Kofta so I would have liked to see more but maybe it was just a bad scoop. Service: I got takeout but the restaurant is open to order at the counter. 2 men helped up, 1 to take the order, and someone in the back to do curbside. Both very sweet and helpful. Covid: There is no one in the restaurant and employees wore masks/gloves. The restaurant seems to be doing only takeout and delivery. Parking: They have maybe 4 spots in front of the restaurant but I've seen cars park to the side or in front of the grocery store. Pricing: The size of the meal for the value is well worth a visit. Our total came out to be ~$25 with an extra order of naan. Please give this local eatery a visit and wear a mask! read more

We were searching for Indian food for dinner around 8pm and this was the only one open until 10pm. To our surprise and delight this place was 100% authentic Nepali and Indian food. Delicious, fresh! They have a good list of Indian beers but only two available. Took awhile for our main food to come out but it was worth the wait. I imagine it takes longer because it's so fresh. There's a lot of love and passion in this food and I am so happy that we were able to feast with our family and friends! Next time we are in KY, we will be sure to visit again! read more

Able to change spice level with online ordering. We had a number of appetizers (gobi manchurian, paneer pagoda), then biryani, tikka masala, saag dishes. The location of restaurant was somewhat difficult to locate since it sits obscured off Bardstown Road. place just had numerous other patrons arrive when we did. Wait after ordering was almost 20-30 minutes but service was polite and only 1 person to take order. We chose 2 dishes, which each came with white rice. vegetable dish as well as 2 orders of their Nann like bread(Paratha) which was a heavy circle each cut into 4 pieces(one order would have been plentiful). Chicken tiki Masala was good but mostly sauce; only a few pieces of chicken ($10.99) and tasted heavy and very very buttery. Vegetable dish was again good but small portion. The "heat" spicy level we chose medium which was well reflected. However, the portions(for the price) just doesn't reflect somewhere we'd go every week in fact doubt will return; just disappointing in serving portions and heavy heavy use of butter.
