Best nepali food I had in years!!! We ordered up a feast and service was great. Had the goat and bhuna, with a selection of naan and also some dumplings. We of course took half of it home, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. It made for a very very satisfying leftover lunch next day. We will definetly stop by when we are in Cary. It is a great place for family and friends too. I will say, next time I will order a medium spicy, over the mild. They really did make it mild...and I like some good heat. Found this restaurant on Yelp and headed there for dinner a few weeks ago. The place is really clean and well maintained. A few other tables were full with people which is a relief when you try out new restaurants. They serve papad with momo sauce as a complimentary while you wait for the food you ordered. For starters we crispy cauliflower - loved it so much had to order a second serving. Lentil Soup - pretty bland Classic Vegetarian momos - really good just like the other Himalayan restaurants around. For the main course we ordered Palak Paneer and Dal Fry with their olive garlic naan (wanted to try this naan since it was recommended by other yelpers) and it was delicious. We were so full by this point that we decided to skip Desert but they wanted us to try their Kheer saying that it's their best dessert. And it actually was the best item of the day. Loved the Kheer a lot. It was my husband's birthday so that was really a very kind gesture as they made the desert complimentary. read more

I was in Cary visiting a friend and we decided to try Kathmandu Kitchen for dinner. The food was absolutely out of this world! It was the BEST Indian food we have ever had! I only wish they had one in Los Angeles! Nothing here compares to it! The chicken Tikka Masala just melted in your mouth. The spice level was perfect! The Onion Naan was absolutely delicious! Every bite was filled with onions. The Tamarind chutney was a perfect accent and the veg korma was delicious! Next time I'm in Cary that will be my first stop!!! read more

The interior is very nice. One of the nicer South Asian restaurants in Cary/Morrisville. I like the heavy stone type tables and the chairs are good too. You can tell they have invested to make it nice. The service was friendly and polite. I was disappointed with the bhatmaas sadeko. It is fried soybeans, ginger and spices. The soybeans are quite hard and the dish was just too dry and a bit stale in flavor. The sauce that comes with it doesn't really improve the dish and is just very spicy. I'm comparing this appetizer to bhel puri. So I think it would be better with a tangy tamarind sauce. Or at least if it had some lime/lemon tanginess that would have helped. No complaints with the Himalayan Chowmein with chicken, I liked it. The chicken Tikka masala has a very good sauce, but the chicken pieces could have been marinated a bit more, they were not succulently juicy and a tad on the tough side. I still enjoyed, but there is potential for improvement. I like that they put some cumin into the rice. The tandoori roti was quite good and not too dry. The choice of background music was Western classical music, which is a bit unusual for South Asian dining, but it contributes to a serene and relaxing ambiance. There is a small bar, three dollar beers, sparkling wine from 5 dollars a glass and up. Cocktails from 5 and up. I like that the menu specifies what dishes contain nuts. Yummm! A gem in the Triangle and definitely a must-try! Came here for dinner with two friends last Saturday, and there were only a couple other parties seated at the time, which was good given the need for distance. The place looks very quaint and authentic inside, and smells delicious upon entrance. It's definitely a quieter (vs. bustling) atmosphere. The menu is quite lengthy, so we had a hard time deciding what to order. Our waitress recommended the mango chicken (which is a sweet curry dish), which we ordered along with the crispy cauliflower, goat curry, and garlic naan. All were great choices - very flavorful! The naan was crispier (and less doughy) than that of most Indian restaurants in my opinion, and the cauliflower had the perfect amount of kick to it (don't order it if you can't handle moderate spice). Both the mango chicken and goat curry were excellent entrees - one sweet and the other savory. Great Himalayan/Nepalese restaurant in the area that I highly recommend. I want some mo momos! The only thing I wish I could change about Kathmandu is its proximity to me. (It's in Cary and I'm in Carrboro.) I tried the jackfruit biryani, tandoori duck tikka, tandoori paneer tikka, dal tadka, garlic nann, chicken korma, himalayan vegetarian curry, crispy cauliflower, pokoras, and the chicken and vegetarian momos. I ran here after directing a video shoot for two hours - I was exhausted and hungry and ready for Nepalese food! I picked this place because I love Momo and this new restaurant came highly recommended and plus my friend let me chose for my birthday. While I waited for a friend (she is usually running a bit late!), I ordered Chicken dumplings in a broth called Momo Jhol. A Yelper whose opinion I respect recommended this in her review. I'm pretty glad I listened. For those uninitiated, Momo are Indian spiced dumplings and this dish was a new one for me - the broth had more of a Chinese flavor. This dish was on the spicy side of medium, I wouldn't call it mild. I would go back just for the Momo Jhol for sure! Next we ordered, yes my friend arrived just after the Momo Jhol, dal tadka which is black lentils with kidney beans in cream soup. It is very similar to dal makhani. I liked it. It was pretty mild tasting and if you are new to Nepalese food it might be safe to order this with some veggie (subji). It goes very well with so many dishes. We paired it with Himalayan chicken vindaloo and this, even for my friend Ritika and I, was on the spicier side. If spicy food is scary for you definitely go with mild not medium spice level for this dish. The portions were big and the food was fresh and both of us agreed that we would be back! read more

Wow actually pretty good! Since moving here from NY I've been looking for a new Indian spot. It doesn't compare to my go to back in NY but it was a top contender. I got the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and veggie samosas. The chicken tikka masala was really good! Very creamy, good texture and taste in the chicken. I do wish spice was little more present I got medium plus next time I'll get spicy and compare. The samosas also very good but I wish it had more breading and was crispier I added them in my air fryer for a few minutes and that did the trick. Garlic naan also very good! I ordered off Uber eats and it arrived in about 45 minutes still hot and fresh. Solid 4/5 I will eat here again :) read more

My girlfriend and I found this place via Yelp and it is now on our list of "MUST GO BACK AGAIN SOON!" Aside from the food being absolutely phenomenal, the service and the cleanliness was too! Very clean, very friendly. Our service was not rushed and neither was preparing the food. We could tell the food was made from scratch and not just pulled out from a batch and heated up. Wait time on the food was about 15 minutes and the wait was absolutely worth it. This mirrored its fresh taste while being served hot. We felt very comfortable eating here. Btw, the entire staff are Nepalese and from Nepal. Very friendly and inviting people! We had the Chicken Tikka Madala, Vegetable Curry, as well as the Chicken Biryani--all absolutely amazing!!! Wow! We are avid Indian food lovers and this place did not disappoint. Do not come here thinking you are going to get served food in 10 minutes. It is very evident time and care is taken into each dish. I think from the past reviews there is new ownership and during this time of Covid the husband and wife team are running the show by themselves it seems. They will have to eventually get help because this place should become even more popular once things get back to 'normal'. We enjoyed all the dishes we had. The steamed buns, butter chicken, cauliflower, tiki masala, tandoori chicken and the bread basket were all incredibly tasting and the spice was perfect. My husband and I are new to the area and we are excited to have found such a good spot! We really enjoyed our meal at Kathmandu Kitchen- we split an order of Palak Paneer, Paneer Makhani, and Chicken Vindaloo, along with an order of Butter Naan. The curries were very creamy and tasty, with large, delicious chunks of paneer. The chicken was well-seasoned and very tender. The naan was great- crisp on the outside, nice and soft on the inside. They also have a great beer/wine/drinks menu, with lots of options. We stuck to beer this time, but we will definitely bring friends in the future so we can split a bottle of wine- the vast majority of bottles were priced under $30, many in the low $20's. Service was fantastic- very friendly and conscientious waitstaff! We will definitely be coming back to Kathmandu Kitchen, for both dinner and takeout. I have been to Kathmandu twice. Both times, the food was delicious. Both times, service was very slow. Given the timing of several reviews, it seems the first time we went was before the owner/management change, but our food took what felt like a very long time to get to us. I didn't time it, so I can't say much else. Our food was great, so I didn't think it was a big deal. The second time around, we came with an hour and 15 minutes to spare before we had to be somewhere, assuming that would be plenty of time. There were 2 people at the bar and once table with a parent and young child in the restaurant. That was it. To condense the story, we waited 35 minutes from the time we ordered til we received it. We ordered a bread basket, dal makhani, and paneer tikka. Our water glasses were never refilled, our server never came to follow up with us, and while typically breads come out before entries at Indian/Nepalese restaurants, it didn't come out until after the rest of our food came out. After waiting and being ignored for half an hour with 2 people eating in the restaurant and empty glasses, we decided to cancel our order and flagged down our server. She pleaded with us to wait another 5 minutes, there was only person working in the kitchen, and something about someone's daughter getting married that day so that's where their staff was. We said....well, ok, but bring out boxes and our check. To be fair our food did come out in about 5 minutes, and it was delicious. I had to ask for my water glass to be refilled. So I'd say from in the door to out it was about an hour and 10 minutes, which isn't horrible. I have experienced worse, but not that often. I have to dock stars because there was a definite lack of attention and it would have been nice to be warned ahead of time that they were very understaffed that day. read more

This Saturday was my second visit to this place and first time after the owner change. The service was very poor. There were not many guests but still the service was very slow. We had to remind the attendants multiple times. The food was horrible. I love Nepalese food as the spices are very different from Indian food even though it looks and may be tastes similar. There are other Nepalese restaurants better than this one in the town. If you want to eat Indian food then go to Indian restaurants in the triangle. I am not going there again ever. read more

I came here on a weekday evening around 5PM, nobody there when we arrived. We were seated and given menus, and we ordered Lamb Seekh Kabab and Kadai Paneer. I wanted to switch one of the rice orders with naan but this apparently wasn't allowed (and the server told me they get this question a lot - so why not?), so ended up ordering one. We waited a bit for the food to arrive, and my naan arrived later than the rest of the food and so I had to wait. The flavors were very, very light and not that tasty, and the lamb was borderline dry. There was some lentil soup too that came with the food and it wasn't very flavorful either. I asked for some hot sauce which was good, and the naan was alright - it came out hot which made the first piece very tasty but it got cold after as expected. Portions were alright but flavors were weak. These dishes came out to be around $36 post-tax, service was friendly. read more

Called in the order and it was done in 20 minutes and got a discount for ordering over the phone. The spice is a scale 1-10 but 4 is considered medium! I got a 6 and my significant other got a 7. Me and my family came here for lunch and we love trying all of the ethnic places especially in the Cary area, so when we saw this place we were intrigued by the menu. It looked very good and we hadn't had Himalayan food in the area so we took a shot at trying it and boy were we not disappointed. Man oh man this place was bomb! I'm from out of town and we just don't have many great Indian places where I live so maybe it's just the norm in Cary/Durham area. The ambiance is quiet but it was a Monday night. We had the cauliflower starter and samosa to start with. They were different flavor profiles and a little spicy but we loved them both. Everyone got a different chicken dish including the chicken tandoori which we got 7/10 spice and it was perfect. In addition, we got two nans and the bill was around 65.
