I ventured here for a quick bite of lunch with my mother. The restaurant itself was pretty empty on a Monday at 1:00pm. The momos-Nepalese spin on a dumpling was filling and evokes the feeling you get from eating at home. We also had the tandoori chicken, which unfortunately was overpriced and overcooked-two small chicken legs for $15. We spent approximately $30 for two people. The butter chicken, which is good but too rich for me. CHICKEN CHHOILA was pretty good, with a light lemon flavor. It's just a bit dry. Lamb Kadai was also pretty good, though the lamb was a bit dry. The flavor of the sauce is excellent. Could have used a fatter cut of lamb. Palak Shrimp was too salty. It's full of spinach with not many shrimp. We counted 8 in the dish. NAAN BASKET was good. Of all the Indian places in the area, this is the best! The service was excellent, polite, and friendly. We ordered the Mo Mos, Briyani, and Tandoori. It was all delicious and they took the time to explain how they make everything, as well as offer up different sauces to try. The chef even came out and thanked us for coming in. This place is seriously amazing! Of all the Indian places I've tried around the world, this is by far the best! The service is outstanding, the tikka masala is SO creamy and the spice is just right. This was my first visit to this place as it's relatively new in the area. Stopped by for dinner but mainly for appetizers. We were served complimentary papad with chutney which is typical in every Nepali restaurant but papad wasn't that crispy as it's supposed to be. The ambiance is good giving it a little upscale look compared to other Himalayan restaurants with a separate bar area as well. For appetizers, we got Samosa chat and Veg Momos. While Samosa itself tasted good but the yogurt used in chat wasn't fresh giving the chat an overall sour taste. I can easily recommend this place to anyone who love Momos. Being a vegetarian, I didn't try meat ones but Veg Momos were on point and in fact one of the best I have had. There were 8 momos in one plate which is good for two people. The sauce served on side is okay but the filling inside the Momos makes up for it. For main course, we ordered Himalayan Veg Chow mein. It was a little different than usual as it didn't have soy sauce but the taste was good. There was a hint of curry powder taste as well but they were good to have even without a side of Manchurian or any gravy. After searching and debating finally decided to give a try at this place. This place was quite inside had to drive another 10-12 mins even after taking an exit. Ample parking, was seated readily. The ambience was pretty good too. Our server came and greeted us and took our ordered. I was craving for chai. Chai was not really up to my expectation. It was not well proportioned with milk and water. Coming to food. We ordered jhol chicken momo and ch kofta with olive garlic naan. We were served papad and tamarind sauce. So thankful we had otherwise little did we know we had to wait more than an hour for the food. The restaurant was not slam. One large party of people were seated at the front side of restaurant and rest were all 2-3 person each table. I would say pretty okay in size for mid week. Unless all must have seated at the same time. Since this is newly opened restaurant, I do understand if it its taking longer but an hour? I would have been still okay but nobody came to check on for more than 45 mins after we were served papad. Forget about filling the water. Finally the server who took our order came and apologized. I was thankful at least she came. I do not expect my servers to come and entertain me in every 3-5 mins, however as a courtesy if I know the customers are seated for quite sometime and there have been a delay in food I would go and exchange few words that way one does not feel abandoned. That's what a customer service is to me. Specially when you see in certain tables the entertainment is through the roof. For instance, a party of 8 or so people were seated at the window side. We both were seated almost about same time. It was amazing how their heaps of orders were delivered fast enough. A lady with the group seems to have a connection with the restaurant. She was going back and forth in the kitchen and bringing the food out. Those people were taking the pictures . Could be fellow yelpers. Awell even the owner was checking on them, checking on the white customers frequently next to us and who were seated after us. Customers are customers. The other people who came to dine in could be also an elite yelper or a local guide. Be kind and courteous to everyone. Finally food arrived after long wait. I have had better momos. The stuffing was salty and achar was okay. Also the tip of wrapper was hard. Malai kofta was also average tasting, the chicken was just too bland however the sauce was much better. The best part of the meal was olive garlic naan. I just could not get enough of it. Visiting from Out of state you rely on fellow yelpers. I probably had high expectation looking at yelp reviews but sadly it did not meet. May be I have had great tasting Nepali/ Indian food. To me this was just an average restaurant. Hopefully management will learn and grow. I wish them all the best. read more

Best Nepalese food in Cary. The Dal Makhani was positively divine and the naan had an excellent crisp to accompany its chew. Our server was extremely friendly and was able to hook me up with a hot sauce that was out of this world. Get the momos too, absolutely on point! You won't regret your trip to Kathmandu Kitchen. Update: I went back again and this restaurant absolutely lived up to my recollection of how good it was if not exceeded it. Get the Tandoori Duck and Himalayan Lamb Chops. They were cooked to exactly the right temperature with tender perfection and excellent warm spices. The pakoras were delightfully crispy and ate very light with an excellent sauce. We had lunch here for the first time yesterday. The restaurant is small and dark, but it's clean, and the service is excellent. I ordered the lentil soup and classic vegetable momos, and my friend ordered the chicken vindaloo, which came with a huge portion of basmati rice. Don't expect the soup to be thick with lentils. Instead, the lentils were dissolved into the soup, and it had a chicken-soup consistency. It was very good, but the carrots were raw. The slightly-spicy momos were a starter, and were just the right amount for lunch, along with the soup. My friend loved his vindaloo, and we both enjoyed the garlic and onion naan. Easily the best Nepalese place in Cary. The menu offers some different options, including keto, than other places, the prices are excellent, and the portions are huge. I had given this place 5 star twice but not any more because the two things I used to go eat, jhol momo and C Momo doesn't taste the same. If the dish - jhol momo is getting promoted in news and observer, at least the dish quality/taste should have been consistent! I was really disappointed how the jhol/soup didn't taste like it had the typical nepali ingredients. It was very watery unlike before. The momo wraps were all in pieces. I hadn't heard of this place, but my friend had read a review and was excited to try their Mo Mos. We drove up from Durham, and found it to be worth the trip! It's in an unsuspecting strip mall location, but was surprisingly cozy inside. We got the chicken and veggie mo mo dumplings, and then shared the palek paneer. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the owner was kind and generous. I think we'll probably return when we get a chance. read more

We ate here soon after we returned from our trip to India. We ordered Himalayan Chicken curry and Malabar shrimp curry. The chicken was cooked in right amount of oil and spices and tasted perfect with Tandoori roti. The Malabar shrimp curry was creamy and tasty. After reading fantastic reviews for momos, we thought of giving it a try but it didnt meet our expectations. They had good options for beer and wine. Here is the reason behind 2 star ratings- 1/ The waiter guy was wearing the baseball cap-- This is not a fast food restaurant, why would you wear a baseball cap? 2/ We had ordered some dumplings so we asked the waiter to bring some hot sauce or chutneys about 3 times. Never got it. Why would they have him, I don't know. 3/ The cook doesn't seem to know the ABC of "how to make chilli chicken". It may not be a bad idea to visit other good restaurant to see how they are actually made. It was bad. 4/ The other dishes were very mediocre too. So, let's sump up. If the wait staff and cook have no clue on how to serve the patrons who come thru that door, and your restaurant has 5 different set of tables and chairs, you are not going to survive in the long run. I went to Kathmandu for Sunday lunch with a few friends and it was great! I got noodles and they tasted exactly as I expected them to. The jhol dumplings were interesting but good. One of my friends got Thupka, which was like a noodle soup but not too soupy, it was really good. All the appetizers were pretty tasty as well. The service was great! This restaurant has earned it's spot on our #1 take out rotation. My family ordered the vegetable pakora, navratan korma, lamb rogan josh and mixed naan- we would recommend all of these dishes. The other Nepalese restaurant I had a pleasant experience at before was closed for a holiday and I'm glad it was because I was able to experience Kathmandu Kitchen for the first time. It was very clear to me that this restaurant had just recently opened up- from the decor to the limited service personnel to the keen attention to detail from the owner of the business himself to every single customer in the restaurant. I ordered the goat curry while my beau ordered the roast duck and we shared the spicy cauliflower appetizer and olive oil garlic naan. To start with the absolute positives, I think this might have been one of the best curries I've ever had; it was definitely the best goat I've ever had. Second, the garlic naan was delicious, definitely one of the best points of the dinner. As for the improves: First, I thought the restaurant could use some more waiters. Like I said, I'm pretty sure the owner was waiting on all the customers that were there, which is awesome but at the same time, he could use some help. Second, the cauliflower dish which is usually one of my favorite dishes, wasn't done very well. The flavors were great but the cauliflowers themselves were not crispy and were actually kind of mushy, to the point where it was difficult to get my fork into them. Overall, I am happy with my experience and would gladly come back. Not only for the food but for the owner. For my entree, I got the methi chicken malai, mild, and while I liked it, it was also a little spicier than I like. My friend got a paneer dish and enjoyed it.
