We got the vegetable korma, chana masala, garlic naan, and a mango lassi- the lassi was packaged with some Saran Wrap to keep the to-go container safe on the drive home and it worked beautifully! So the only thing I tend to eat anymore at indian restaurants is Chicken tikka or Butter chicken (if they carry it), so I get to use it as my gauge by which to test indian food. And the one thing I've seen about chicken tikka at Nepalese/Indian combo restaurants compared to straight Indian is that the spicing is more intense and slightly more varied at Nepalese places, and for me and Kathmandu that's a good thing. Their spicing was awesome- just the right amount of heat and goodness. It has a lot more ginger and generally just a broader flavor spectrum than regular indian. The other thing I test a place by is the tandoori chicken quality and tenderness, and Kathmandu's was off the charts. The nan was disappointing however- it clearly had been reheated and was oily and gummy. Also, we got our order to go and they gave us rice pudding- it was good but then there was a wholly unidentifiable item in the rice pudding, so we tossed it and that was a disappointment. The prices are a little higher than Jaipur, our other favorite Indian in Boulder. But I'll definitely be back for the spicinginess. ;) read more

Stopped by for lunch on the day before the Boulder Bolder. Frankly given the Yelp Reviews I excepted it to be busier, but was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere - Clean and inviting, with a few personal touches Food - We got the buffet, which was excellently priced at $9.95 for lunch. For lunch, the eggplant curry and chicken tikka were highlights for me. My friend tried the okra and really liked it, but I was so stuffed that I couldn't imagine eating more...until I found that blessed carrot halwa (sp?). Holy smokes. That is a must get. It's on the hot bar, but labeled as dessert, and it is AMAZING. As in I was sitting at the booth trying to figure out how to make it at home when normally my desserts are pedestrian fare such as cookies, cupcakes or cheesecakes. My friend is even dairy intolerant but made an exception to eat some. Check this place out, it's a good standard. I'll go back if I'm in the area for lunch. read more

a hands-down, best Nepalese/India lunch buffet in town! Every time I walk in here, my partner and I are confident that we will be fed very well, and it never lets us down. This is seriously the best money value for the quality of food in Boulder! Within 13-15 dollars per person, you can have a sumptuous feast! Note that it's best to walk in early for a lunch buffet; after 1 o'clock, food gets a little sparse and cold. Servers are always pleasant and prompt with their service. This place is lovely and the food is awesome, but I'd like you to continue reading :) The place is very chill - so much so that nobody even said hello to us. We tried to get eye contact when we walked in, but that was apparently a bit off-putting. The manager was on his cell phone and didn't sound happy. Someone on the other end of the phone may have been telling him that he looked like he needed an orgasm. Not sure. It must have been a tough phone call because he was unable to even nod his head as we smiled and waved. This might not be the behavior of a happy, loving, welcoming manager. Maybe he's the grumpy-owner-type who hates his life or maybe he's the brother-in-law who was forced into indentured servitude in exchange for having to stand with a phone stapled to his ear. Not sure. Either way, we wasted no time. We happily sat ourselves and dove right into the buffet. But even the waiter and waitress were skittish, as if previously hung by their aprons by the Khmer Rouge. When you match this part of the story with the grumpy-needs-orgasm guy, one might wonder if this place needs a hug-workshop. Maybe some ecstasy. If I worked at a place like this, I'd be SUPER FRICKIN EXCITED because the food is katman-du-licious! IT'S AWESOME. WE LOVED IT. Piping hot, lots of options, yummy in my tummy all day long, food-boner and everything. Come down to Kathmandu for some great food at lunch time. If you see the grumpy guy at the front of the restaurant speaking to imaginary enemies on his mobile, give him a big kiss on the lips and a gentle tap on his balls. He probably needs it. This is probably one of the only (if not the only) Nepalese/ Indian restaurants in Boulder offering covered patio/ outdoor seating, which has been a godsend during the pandemic. I've been here twice now and today was there one year anniversary. The food was meh for flavor but for the price one could not complain. The samosas were good, tandoori chicken and naan. The other foods were lacking flavor and water downed for the masses. The reason I am giving 2 stars is due to the non hygienic practices that were non existent and will be reported to the health dept.(open your Yelp on your computer and they have a 'C' rating from the health dept. violations are reported. Witnesses the staff on multiple occasions clean a table by using the dirty yellow cloth napkins left by the previous party. Then sit a party of four at the booth. NO bleach! Are you kidding me!!! When we were sat down at our booth we also noticed there was left over food stuck to the table. The glasses were dirty as well. I asked about cleaning the table and the staff pretended not to hear me. Was here two weeks ago and we ordered from the menu only to toss the left overs once we got home. We were both sick, after witnessing non hygienic practices I know we caught a food born illness. We will not be returning. Suggestions: Wipe down each table/chair after each use with bleach. The Kathmandu II is a new comer to the Boulder scene, although the owners are well established in Nederland. I am still slightly undecided on their food and their service has not wowed me. I have been here twice now. Once on a Friday for the dinner buffet and once on a week night. The buffet is only offered at lunch time and then on Friday for dinner. This is a bit confusing. Why does Friday get the dinner one? The other week night I came I was disappointed the buffet was not open. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and somewhat ornate. It still feels a lot like the Chinese place that preceded it. The staff both times I have been here were a little stand offish. There seem to be several people around that either do not work there or are just not on shift. They are not very helpful. During both meals I felt a little rushed to finish, especially on the buffet night. The food: The buffet is quite large and has some very unique options. I particularly enjoyed the sweet potato masala. I have never had this dish before and it was a very unique spicing. The dish was very rich. They offer quite a few vegetarian dishes on the buffet and advertise vegan options. None of the dishes besides the masala particularly wowed me, but they were enjoyable. The kheer has very chalky rice and is not very creamy. The chai was unique and had a pepto-like pink color. It was not very sweet, so I would skip it if you do not like the black chai tea flavor. The regular menu is also very large. They have a vegetarian dish page with many options ranging from the stables to the more unique mixtures. The biggest downside to the menu night was the price. It was high for the portions and everything is a la carte. You pay individually for entree, appetizer, and naan. This added up to almost $18 for just me! They did bring free kheer at the end which was nice. This night, I tried the Saag Aloo (potato in saag) since it was not on the buffet on my previous visit. Sadly, it was not very flavorful and the potatoes were mushy. I will try this place again, but I will come on Friday for the dinner buffet or at lunch. Hopefully they will get the service dialed in and the food will keep improving. read more

Lunch buffet til 3pm! They don't start cleaning it all up right at three like a lot of buffets. They keep the food fresh and steamy :) Delicious samosas fried perfectly. Tamarind and mint chutney available at the bar! Plenty of offerings for veggie and meat eaters alike. Food is labeled if it has meat and/or dairy (as well as gluten). Vegan options a plenty! Fresh naan at the bar as well- sometimes at buffets I've waited for it to be brought to the table. They didn't kick us out at three and are very accommodating! Boulder weekend with friends! After walking for hours and drinking great craft beer we decided to remember that it was one of teams birthdays (come on, that's what friends do). We "allowed" her to choice the dinner spot and she wanted Indian. We found Kathmandu and decided to stop in for a bite. It was clean and was mostly focused on buffet, which I'm not a fan. We sat and they didn't get us menus since 99% of those there wanted the buffet. We got menus! The service was solid. They checked on us and made sure that our waters (& drinks) were full. We ordered a number of dishes to share and ALL were fabulous. I think everyone was impressed by the flavor and portions. We dined like it was our last night....like it was a party for a friend. ENJOYED IT. When finished, they asked if we wanted anything else. We declined. THEN....the server came over and said, "It's okay to get something sweet from the buffet! Please enjoy!" Mana from Heaven. We did. Rice pudding, mango pudding and ?. Solid. I was stuffed like a turkey on Thanksgiving, but in a good, "I need to switch to sweat pants", kind of way. We will return when we come to Boulder. Of course, I'll start in sweat pants. Don't judge! I run every day for events like this. Oh, yeah. Great atmosphere and incredible service. I have never order off the menu but always eated front he buffet. Food is amazing,always fresh and incredibly delicious. The carrot dish is my favorite, I eat mostly vegeterian and they have amazing options for vegetarians. My husband always order a Taj Mahal beer. The mango yogurt mixed with the icecream is a treat! Kathmandu Restaurant II - Himalayan/Nepalese Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

Stopped in for the lunch buffet with three others around 1pm, and we were seated immediately. I hate going to buffets because I don't eat very much at once and buffet food, in general, doesn't taste very good, but the food here was excellent! Each dish that I tried had a lot of flavor, and had me wanting more! My favorites would have to be the saag paneer (creamy spinach thing), sweet potato masala (good with the fresh, free naan), and the rice pudding. The saag paneer was really flavorful and not too overwhelming. The naan was very dough-y and yummy! The rice pudding was excellent. I really enjoyed out it had a hint of chai/cinnamon. Quite delicious! The total was around $48 for four people and two chais. Pretty good if you're an eater! Not so good if you're like me and can't eat very much, but I would say it's more worth it to come to this place than Country Buffet or Golden Corral. I would try it again with my family members. A new Indian place in Boulder is always appreciated and I enjoyed the food at Kathmandu. I have tried Indian all over the planet and I have had some pretty tasty India food but Kathmandu is pretty tasty. I have had their brunch and have also ordered it to take home for the family. It was very good and the curries had distinct taste with great spices. Their medium was not spicy at all so will try their hot next time around. Went to Kathmandu II for the lunch buffet. Food was marked with dairy free and gluten free signage which is appreciated. When the server realized I was vegan, he brought a basket of papadum (which was tasty) instead of naan. I wasn't impressed with the pakora, the samosa and daal were pretty good and the sweet potato masala was delicious. Don't forget the chutneys! It's not the best Indian/Nepalese food in Boulder but it's decent. The decor hasn't changed much since Golden Lotus moved out. read more

Fantastic food. I had the sweet potato masala which was very creamy and I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, considering I've never had sweet potato in Indian cuisine. The portion was plentiful and be wary on the size of the appetizers! My boyfriend and I ordered 2 + some naan bread (very cheap and they give you a lot!) and we were pretty full before our food got there. The only reason why I don't give this more stars is that the menu is very different than the Nederland location. The prices are also a lot more, which kind of bummed me out when we sat down. I expected to pay a certain amount and order a few dishes to try and was instead put off by the significantly higher prices. At least $2-4 more per dish. It was also difficult for me boyfriend and I to get water. He had to get up and ask. I wouldn't normally mind but the food is spicy and all guests need to have their waters refilled at least regularly. read more

I came here to try the lunch buffet today. Overall, I would say this place is decent. The buffet cost $9.95 per person, so around $13 including tax and tip -- not terribly cheap, but not a bank breaker, either. Many of the buffet items did not have tags, so I didn't really know what I was eating half of the time, but I was adventurous and kept an open mind. There was one item that looked similar to Chicken Tikka Masala --it was delicious and went well with the yellow pea and carrot rice and the naan. There were also many chicken, potato and vegetable, and vegetarian dishes that were quite delectable. The reason why I rated this restaurant four out of five stars was because the tandoori chicken was dry and not very tasty, and the saag had a bit too much cream and tasted watery, and the rice dessert --Kihr-- did not taste right compared to the many other Indian places I've dined at in the past. On the other hand, there were plenty of other delicious options to help me overlook these unimpressive dishes. Overall the service was great and the staff was very attentive. The ambiance was also nice and comfortable --not too upscale, and far from a hole in the wall. It's likely that I'll come back to this restaurant. read more

This is an amazing restaurant. Each time I visit they have new dishes that I've tried before and they always have the traditional dishes such as tandoori chicken. The servers are very friendly. I live an hour away but I absolutely love eating here! My young son loves their buffet. They have a nice variety of food.
