I bought a house and was impressed with the landscaping and gardening. The previous owner used Kathy's Landscaping and I wanted to continue with a company that made the grounds look so nice. Kathy's is a full-service company, so I was able to use one provider to remove large trees from a difficult location, replace underground drainage pipes and put in a nice patio made of pavers - all in addition to weekly gardening service. The managers and personnel of Kathy's Landscaping are prompt and professional, and they do beautiful work at a fair price. I highly recommend this company. read more

First, Justin was outstanding in understanding our needs and desires. We are preparing the backyard for a future home sale. The bid matched our expectations. But that is where it ended. The work and additional care exceeded what we really needed. There work will now eliminate some additional labor i was planning. The crew that came, and lead by Tomas was very professional. Initially the work was going to take approximately 3 days was done in less than 2! There were a few touch ups needed, and Justin had them come out the same day - no questions asked. The work we requested was not real elaborate compared to other projects they work, but we were treated as if we were spending a fortune. Customer service was excellent - including my dealings with Liz at the office. Fair price, excellent and efficient work, you will be disappointed if you don't have Kathy's as part of the project plan. And to think I was going to do some of this myself - yeah right!! I called Ramiro to go help my 80year old Father in law, Nick. Nick had another landscaping company(I will not name them) install a sprinkle system in is back yard. The next day later the sprinkler system starting spewing water underground creating a minim swamp. Nick called the other company that installed the system and they wanted to charge him $250 to come out to fix THIER mistake. I called Kathy's Landscaping company as I heard wonderful things about them. RAMIRO came out and discovered it was an easy fix. Something the previous company did bother to do. Ramiro REFUSED to accept payment. WHO DOES THAT these days. I learned Kathy's Landscaping is a Family owned and run company and they sure do act like it. They care about earning the customer versus taking them for as much money as they can get per job. I will write a negative review for the other company but Kathy's Landscaping is A+ in my book. Do not use these guys, they came out a few times to TRY to fix a leak on sprinkler valves they installed and made me feel like I was bothering them to fix something that frankly was their responsibility. After numerous promises to come out and fix it they simply never showed up!!! Frustrated, I decided to stop calling Ramiro who makes all kinds of empty promises. Once I started to email them to keep records of our conversations, he simply did not respond. I know they use emails because they had the audacity to ask for more $$$ for a job that wasn't even complete! Who does that?!?. I am still waiting for him to fix the valves he was hired to do last June. You would think that fixing a sprinkler valve is something he should be able to do as a professional landscaper. Our lawn in the backyard died during the drought last year, so we decided to extend our patio. We originally thought to do just concrete, with maybe a paver outline. We called several landscape places only to be told that the project was too small or the company was too busy. Kathy's Landscaping came out the next day. After measuring the area, Ramiro told us we should continue the pavers we already had because the cost between pavers and concrete was not much different and the pavers would look better. We agreed. The project started the next week, and was completed quickly. The result is beautiful. The workers were great. The area was cleaned up every evening and at the end, you would not have known the workers had been there. The "front office" people were very personable. read more

We called kathy's landscaping to get a estimate to give bushes and brick border taken out and replaced with grass. Justin came back the next day with a quote and it was a reasonable price. They started the next and had three guys. They worked hard to remove all the bushes and brick, the also dug two hole for a porch swing the holes were 18"x33" deep in 100 degrees. I kept giving them water, felt bad for them. They finished on for the first day. The job was completed the next morning and did a great job. Totally recommend this company and will use them again. Can't thank Ramiro enough for coming out today. I got a call from one of my neighbors that a tree on my back hillside came down and was leaning against a tree in my other neighbor's backyard. If it wasn't for their tree catching my damaged tree it would have smashed down on their house. While I was on the road fighting traffic to get home my neighbor made several calls to several companies. Ramiro stopped by in an hour. Quoted a price 1/3 less than his competitors and his crew worked into the darkness to secure the tree so winds wouldn't disturb it. He'll be back tomorrow to finish the job. My husband hired Kathy's Landscaping without checking Yelp first. We experienced what others did with Ramero not returning calls, not showing up at appointed times and not showing up at all. He did replace a leaking sprinkler valve and a broken sprinkler pipe. However, I thought the price was a little high. We then discussed with him revamping our sidewalk planter and repiping the sprinkler system for it. After several tries to connect with Ramero and eventually speaking with Kathy, we decided to try to find someone else to do the job. Unreliability and poor communication aren't a sign of professionalism. read more

At first, I thought Kathy's Landscaping was OUTSTANDING. They did a fantastic job creating a 3 tier terrance on our former hill where the plants were dying. They installed a new sprinkler system for the yard along with a water drip system for the former slope. Words fails to express my appreciation for their new irrigation system that stopped a serious rainfall from flooding our backyard ! It worked PERFECTLY during last year's heavy rains. Their workers were professional and very attentive. Now, comes the however.... When the new plants on the hill started dying, we were told to water MORE. When I asked them to visit our location after showing them pics of the dying plants, I was told they ONLY accept jobs starting at $2,000 and they were queued up for 3 weeks ! WTF ? To cut to the chase, I used Thumbtack to find another landscaper and they told us the plants were dying since there was not enough clearance space around the plants (another landscaper told us the same thing). I was so disappointed with Kathy's Landscaping company by FAILING to provide Follow up support ! I even sent them my concern via their website and I never received a reply from them. read more

We cannot say enough about the professionalism of Kathy's Landscaping and Ramiro Robles. We had several very large trees on slopes surrounding our property that needed to be gone. Once we agreed on a competitive price for the work, a contract along with insurance documentation was prepared. This is no fly by night operation, first class all the way. Their work crew showed up on time and it was a pleasure to hear them whistling and singing thru the day, I am guessing they really do love their jobs. The crew repeatedly double checked with us to insure that the exact job was being done. This was not an easy task, one tree alone was a 60 foot high pine on a steep slope. Plenty of firewood from that tree was stacked where we had asked and the rest of the work was finished by nightfall. Ramiro's brother even brought in extra help to get the job & cleanup finished in one day. We really are enjoying our improved view of our beautiful valley. Truly great customer service and we will be using them again when the need arise. read more

This crew was just amazing. I had a 75' pine tree that fell on my roof after a violent windstorm. My back yard was a disaster zone. Ramiro, Tomas and the crew worked non-stop until dark to not only remove the tree but did excellent clean-up. They even asked me if I wanted firewood from the tree, and how large! Excellent service! I woke up to a broken sprinkler pipe. I called first thing in the morning and Romiro was over to give me an estimate within an hour. Company came out to fix a leaking irrigation pipe. They left without checking if the leak was fixed. I have called and text the company numerous times to return to fix the problem I am told that someone would come out right away to fix it. It's been about 6 weeks now and I had to get it fixed by another company. Very bad customer service and I would not recommend at all. read more

So we had Kathy's out to landscape a small hillside in our backyard with a ground cover, plant the ground cover, check and fix the sprinklers, put in a paver cover for trash cans for $3500. While the initial product was good, within 72 hours, grass appeared everywhere they put fertilizer. I sent a pic to see what they could do, and basically, it was, "wow, sucks for you" as the response from Kathys. We are talking 600 sq. Ft. of new lawn interspersed with new ground cover and the only was to get rid of it is by hand. They said it was weeds from before they came in. The end from them. We also had about 30 of the 100+ plants die. They also didn't plant enough. The old saying, "you get what you pay for" does not apply here... I gave one star for the initial service, but I really can't recommend them because they didn't follow up on their work... you would think they want people to be reasonably happy... I know some people are picky and you can't please everyone but come on! read more

Romero came to our house for a job on our slope. He seemed to be drunk! He proceeded to look at some pavers we had done when we had our pool redone. He said we should have had the pavers done with the landscape. It is very hard finding a company that will do landscaping and nothing else. They want more $$$ so they want to do pavers, hardscape etc. I mentioned a plant for my slope, he said NO because of the snow, What? What snow? In Castaic? He never called Monday for the job, I would have said no way, didn't trust him. He was hard to understand, and couldn't concentrate on what we needed. Stay Away from this company . The yelp reviews are probably family members. There are very few pictures of his work. The one is shown over and over and is not that great. One is a picture of a guy waving to the camera. I would not hire this company. They also charge 5 % more to use a credit card!! He mentioned they are a small family owned company. What that has to do with charging extra for a credit card is beyond me. I would think twice about this company. Did not arrive with paper or pen to write an estimate. The only good news that I can write about is that Luis and young lady (sorry, I can't remember your name) came out on time for the quote I wanted on a block wall. They gave me a reasonable quote the following week. Luis also measured 81ft while two other contractors plus myself measured 75 ft. After changing the top caps, I asked for another quote. I sent pictures around noon on Friday. Didn't hear back. I called the office number and left him a message with the receptionist. He said he would call me when he got back into the office that day. Didn't hear back on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I called another contractor and he came out in one hour and we finalized the deal. I messaged Luis and he wrote back that he was too busy and glad I found someone else. Oh well... because once I finish the backyard wall, I'm starting non the entire front yard... which will be the driveway, walkways, retaining wall near the street and artificial grass... they lost a chance to bid on the next project. So, I really can't recommend them to anyone. (My wife liked them because of their name... she spells it with a "C"). read more

Where do I start. About 7 months ago, my husband and I needed some plants removed from our planter. We spent some time looking and calling landscaping companies to do the work, but it was Kathy's Landscaping that immediately returned the call, so we went with them. Kathy came by to assess our needs and provide a very thorough and reasonable quote. Her crew came the next day (at the time she said they would come), and did a great job clearing our planter. They even cleaned up and left the yard immaculate! Long story short, we were having a pool put in, but the pool company "outsourced" all other work, like paving around the pool, landscaping the pool planter, cementing the dirt area where the new pool equipment would go, building a new wall in that area, putting in new decking, etc. We asked Kathy if her crew could do those things and discovered they could, so we hired them to do that work. Bottom line: The work was excellent, the price was fair, the care they took (and questions they asked) to ensure we were happy as things got done was top notch. AND...We just hired Kathy's Landscaping to maintain our yard. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! read more

We love the final product, Ramiro and crew fixed our front planter and built a small wall, the total bill came to just over 1k. I would have given a higher rating but sometimes it is just the little lack of customer service things that hold over and stay on your mind. They used our garden hose without asking, no big, but they left the handle all dirty. We were doing some work in the back yard and filled up our green garbage can, my husband put it on the curb and when the garbage trucks came it was not emptied because it was too heavy. They had placed a bag of mortar into the garbage can, again no big, but it was solid and it weighed a ton. When my husband called the office Kathy was apologetic and said it wasn't our responsibility to take care of it and that she would send someone by. No one came by that day so my husband ended up having to get it out of the can by himself, which was no easy feat and it took them almost two weeks to come pick it up. So even though we absolutely love the work, and they did work hard and the final product is exactly what we wanted, we are left with some annoyance instead of complete satisfaction. So I would recommend this company but with a caution to stay involved. read more

After being a customer with two clean ups, sprinkler repair, finally signed with them them to do weekly care of my front and back yard about a month and half ago. Was disappointed with the crew that came out to maintain my lawn heres some examples: They must of had a dull edger in that they did groomed the front edge of the lawn straight and caused uneven groves which is unsightly. Another week they came and mowed the front yard but didn't the backyard and also forgot to do the edging in the back yard. The other week there were blossoms that blew over from neighbors tree into our lawn and they forgot to use the blower and pick up the extra blossoms off our yard. Also it seems they don't adjust the mowers to really cut the grass and it almost don't seem like they cut it. But the real kicker is I planted wildflowers from seed in my backyard and gave instructions to them after seeing one of them start to dig up the soil around one of the areas I planted wildflowers and told him not to touch the soil in that I planted wildflowers from seed there and all of the bare areas in the backyard. Well, it happened again last Friday when they started to dig up my sprouting wildflowers and it was too late before I saw them and the damage was done. Had an appointment with Ramiro last Monday at 2:00 pm for him to look at the damage caused by his crew and he did not show up and was waiting for him for 3 hrs. He finally called me after 5:00 pm to say he is just to busy to come out and see what his crew did and then offer to pay for the wild flower seeds. I guess with my past business as a customer he figures I am not worth the time to smooth things over and make it right. At least offer to have one of your crew members to come out and plant the wildflower seeds. I am cancelling the monthly service and looking for someone else that appreciates my business they just don't care or care to do a good job. read more

We had our yard worked on by them, the project was quoted to my husband, work took a lot longer than they expected and they did not do all that they quoted to my husband. The Ramiro kept telling me it was "Bad communication", but we did NOT get what we paid for. We paid $2,500 and got four palms trimmed and 2 trees trimmed, and some clearing in the backyard done. Only part of the clearing was done, one tree was completely ignored and they were going to leave the yard a MESS until I went out there and told them that I felt that what we paid versus what they DID, was NOT okay. I was VERY upset and he kept saying it was miss communication. If you use them, get a WRITTEN bid and make sure you get what you paid for. We did NOT. I would never use them again. For $2,500, we felt we got ripped off and were VERY disappointed. I went out the next day and did the rest of the clearing myself. I am still looking for a gardener, but am guy shy about who to trust after that horrible experience. read more

My wife and I bought our first house in Valencia a few months ago, and it has a decent sized lot - about 13k sq-ft. The local gardener we initially hired apparently underestimated the work, because weeds and watering issues quickly arose. After a few months, the yard started looking terrible so I yelped other local landscapers. Although Kathy's only had 3 reviews at the time, they were very good, so I decided to call them up for a free estimate. I called the number listed on Yelp on a Friday afternoon. Ramiro answered and we set up an appointment on the following Monday evening. On Monday, Ramiro showed up on time and we proceeded to walk the property. First up was the basics - initial clean up and weekly maintenance (Mow, Blow, weeds, etc..). He gave me a fair quote based on the size of our lot - it was more than our previous gardener, but in all fairness, it needed to be because of the amount of work that had to be done to keep our yard maintained. What set Ramiro apart though, was his interest in our property. As he walked around, he pointed out several things that I had never noticed or thought of (granted we are first time home owners). He knew every kind of tree and plant on our property, and could see right away which areas needed the most attention. After we got the quotes for cleanup/maintenance, my wife and I wanted to inquire about doing some design changes in the yard - mainly changing the location of two of the walls, and pouring some concrete in some areas. Ramiro was very attentive as I talked through the ideas and he started measuring the areas. He was able to give us a ball park estimate, and said that he and his team were capable of doing the things we were thinking about. All said and done, Ramiro spent about an hour giving us the estimates. on Wednesday, two days later, I fired my old gardener, and called Ramiro to set up the cleanup and weekly maintenance. He said he would be able to drop his guys that Saturday. Saturday came, and his guys were there around 7:30AM and left at some point in the early afternoon. When I got home later, I walked our property and everything was done that Ramiro promised. Ramiro called me around 5 pm and asked if he could stop by to review the work his team did - he arrived about 30 minutes later. Ramiro said that his guys noticed that there may be a leak in the underground watering system, and he showed me how to manually turn it off and on to check. Sure enough, there was a pretty bad leak in one of the hoses in the back yard, and someone had apparently turned the timer to the back off completely before we moved in. This was causing our backyard plants and tree to dry up and wilt (I was going back there with the hose a few times a week, but that wasn't working too well). Ramiro said that he could come by on Monday to fix the leak and turn it back on. Assuming he lives up to that promise (which I have no doubt he will), then Kathy's easily gets 5 stars. Ramiro and his team are amazing - he listens, he communicates extremely well, and his follow through is outstanding. He's also extremely knowledgeable and seems genuinely interested in landscaping. If you are looking for someone to take great care of your yard, regardless of the job, then you should definitely give Kathy's a try. read more

Ramiro was our gardener for more than 10 years until we moved out of the area. We found him thru the previous homeowner. During that time, he was prompt about sprinkler repairs when the dogs ate them, and we had the most beautiful front yard in the neighborhood- the grass was perfect and lush. When I got sick, Ramiro was terrific about making sure I didn't have any work to do in the yard, and went the extra mile. His workers were respectful, on time, and did great work.
