I visited Brooklyn and checked out Kathy's. Gladly I saw their dumplings were prepared fresh (better than the frozen ones you can buy at supermarket.) I really like the dumplings with spinach flavor dough. The pan-fried dumplings (combo F) were good too, and the salad fresh. Kathy's is sort of like Manhattan' dumplings relocated to Brooklyn. --- Out of curiosity (I went to kathy's again) and tried different stuff. Kathy's Dumplings always has the best dumplings around! Though, I've never actually met Kathy, so I assume she's only allowed to sit in the kitchen and make dumplings all the time. The guys at the registers were nice, though, and made sure my order and drink were promptly served. The signs said they had free wifi, but the password didn't work. I missed an episode of Judge Judy, but the dumplings made up for it. I even took one leftover dumpling home to my cat, Fluffy, and she loved it too. Definitely would eat here again! read more

It's a pretty decent selection of dumplings but their variety of pancakes are a must order. Was not impressed with the dumplings but if you are not very picky and need a quick dumpling fix then this spot is spot on in Bay Ridge. They were not the best I have ever had but surely made up for the ones I had just before going here. The workers were friendly and polite as soon as we walked in. My family has a curse with these Chinese-American takeout places. We have a great experience the first few times and then the food starts arriving of a much lesser caliber. That being said, Happy Garden is my current place for a healthy, fresh Chinese American Combo Meal. They use fresh, clean vegetables and clean meat. I would prefer to have the tiniest amount of high quality meat in my food, more like a seasoning, atop a bed of varied greens. These guys do a good job of keeping the vegetables good without the big compromise: it's either loaded with piles of low grade meat in cornstarch, with a few veg for garnish, OR its so nutritious and delicious that they move to Williamsburg and I never hear another word.. Surprisingly clean beef in my veg. I am excited to try more things! But once my spouse ordered green beans without meat, but didn't know how to get the usual sauce. So he just ordered it regular instead of "beef with stringbeans, no beef"...and they served it in garlic sauce. Lots of places do this if you order it without meat; a real Chinese string bean might be topped with ground pork in the seasonings even if you asked for the non-meat version, because that is the traditional way to order it. Should you find yourself in the strange new world of people craving Chinese American Fast Food from whichever era you spawned, then I recommend trying as many local Chinese American places as you can. This one has the sauce-veg-meat ratio we are looking for, and the kinds of combination platters that can feed the whole darn bunch.

The recent Comic Con visiting left me run down so I had hit Ha Ha a few more times and added both chicken with snow peas and chicken with mushrooms and their pan fried pork dumplings to the list of items ordered and I could find no fault in any of them. The service was quick and the counter girl very friendly. She actually also liked my jacket's colorful buttons and asked me about a number of them. I considered this my spreading of Geekdom to someone new. Since all of my sampled dishes were tasty I say if you are in the area and just need a quick Chinese Food fix that this place does alright.
