The waitress seemed to be in pain with a foot injury and I was very patient. Ok - I just have to say, that at first I was a little skeptical of the place, but it had such great reviews, that we just had to try it. We started with one cup of coffee, and somehow ended with 3 even though 2 of us weren't even coffee drinkers. That's how good the coffee was! So good - we got 4 souvenir Katie's coffee cups (the sell those gift wrapped and all, just ask) The service was excellent - and so was the food. The omelette could have used a little more cheese - as they were a little dry and the contents kept falling apart - but aside of that - EXCELLENT!!! The difference between the hash brown and hash brown delights is that the delights are some sort of cheese casserole - get the delight!!!! Every time we're in the east side of town, we make it a point to stop at Katie's for great food and friendly service. We have never had a bad meal or terrible service at Katie's, ever. We enjoy trying to figure out the word scramble on the whiteboard while we wait for breakfast. Try the taco salad, but be ready to share because it is HUGE! Fresh fried tortillas and a heaping scoop of chili on a bed of salad greens with sour cream and salsa hits the spot! Their breakfast burrito is the best in town, stuffed with potatoes, eggs, meats and cheese. Can't wait to go back. I guess I've driven by this place hundreds of times and decided to give it a go after reading YELP reviews. Their strip center location is easy to pass up unless you're in need of medical scrubs (Scrub Club), hit or mostly miss barbecue (Woody's), or mass produced pizza with no personality (Pizza Hut). This is a little old style Florida gem. The interior is nothing special except for some old Florida local pictures, but it is clean...far more important than chachkies. Seating is a bit cramped unless you get a booth or just the right table. Seems there are lots of regulars chatting about the days events over their second cup of coffee. But you really feel like you're in downtown Mayberry and any minute Floyd the Barber and Sheriff Taylor might pop in. Wait staff is prompt and home-style friendly. We both had eggs and sides cooked exactly as ordered. I had asked if the Corned Beef Hash was homemade and told an honest no. Ordered it anyway and because it was cooked to a crispy goodness it was perfect along with an equally browned and crisp potato side. Often CBH looks the same as when it comes from the can, the extra attention made all the difference. This is good diner style food with very reasonable prices open for breakfast and lunch only. I think I have broken the secret code; places that take cash only (as Katie's does) seem to have the best food. Will update once I've had lunch. read more

I have been here 5-6 times for lunch and breakfast and I agree - we need to support the small, local owned places. I am frustrated because each time the food and service were below par. Today, my husband and I both had omelets for breakfast - build your own style. I really like the fluffy layers, but it was swimming in bright yellow grease, as were my very crispy hash browns - the food would have been very tasty if not for the oil they were sitting in - not good. All grill fried items have been like this every time. Also, while the service is personable and kind, we usually come in later in the day - today we entered at 1:10, and they close at 2:00 - and EVERYONE (except the owner - who sat and chatted with the customer behind us about life in general the whole time we were there...) was kind of consumed by side work - it has been like this every time we go! All of the tables and chairs for outside eating are stacked, the servers are all rolling silverware, and spraying window or some kind of cleaner everywhere, getting ready to go. I have heard them say, more than once, "if you came in at 6:00 am, you would want to go as soon as possible, too!" Yes - I get it - side work is important, and I had tons of it as a server, BUT then you get spray cleaner sprayed right next to you - and sort of on you - as you eat - and that is super unpleasant. Its hard to flag down a server for refills, and then they're like "yes?!? what?!?" like their time with you is DONE. Plus they were carrying the yucky floor mats through the restaurant - to rinse outback? - right by where I was eating - it felt like we came at 1:55, not 1:10. I thought we came late because everyone seemed rushed and hurried, but at least 3 more tables came in after us, even one as we left at 1:45. What kind of service will this table get? It IS inexpensive, but this time and last time the server forgot stuff - last time, for lunch, she forgot completely to put in our order, so we waited an hour to be served, and this time I ordered a single pancake that never came or was mentioned. Probably for the better for me, but serve the customers you have, or close earlier. Oh, and get rid of whatever oil you're using on the grill - ick! Finally, leave side work for the end of the day, especially the kind that makes customers feel rushed or sprayed on. Not totally horrible, but they need to think about the customers a bit more...The food is not awesome, it is just very hard to find a non-chain breakfast after noon on Sunday in Bradenton. Sorry, Katie's Cafe - I really want to like you, but I always walk out wanting to be treated better! I guess the early morning customers wear everyone out. read more

Wanted to grab a quick sandwich before a movie at the Carmike Royal Palm 20. Katie's is 2 minutes away (just east of Sam's Club on SR 70). A great find! On this visit we only had a BLT and ham & egg sandwich but they were done right and we'll be back to sample their yummy looking desserts (chocolate lava cake...peanut butter pie...etc.) This is a clean cafe with super friendly wait staff who were very attentive. I was looking for a local place with homey atmosphere and I found it in Kate's Cafe. From the moment I walked in the waitress was welcomed me with a big smile, holding decaf and regular pots of coffee. She quickly rattled off a typical southern hospitality greeting of "Hi honey! Sit where ever you like would you like regular or decaf?" The coffee is a little weak for my taste, but the friendliness lets me overlook it. Used to be one of our favorite places. Has gone Waaay down hill. Last 3 times we've been there we've left disgusted. Food unedible 2 of the 3 times . Over billed. Waitress attitudes so bad! She snapped at me like she thought I was her unruly 2yr old when I told her I had ordered coke not coffee. Hello fellow diners. I think that I wrote a review a couple of years ago but it's time to speak up again. I've been going to Katie's for nine and a half years now - seven days a week. Only Frank is a more faithful customer (see "Frank's Corner). The English couple are my third owners. They will be around for years to come. From the beginning, this has been a place with a dedication to friendliness. Unfaltering friendliness! I'm sure that you realize that customers can be a challenge. I'm not always fun to be around. But the servers remain cheerful and upbeat no matter what.. and I'm remembering two of them losing mothers - and customers riding out on gurneys. The food: Katie's has a couple of kitchen crews and they're great. Big menu, excellent preparation and presentation (almost always). Please remember that this is Florida and a "Western Omlette" may have a different definition down here. The service: Usually the coffee is constantly refilled and you can order "right now " or take your time. But sometimes (maybe 4% of the time) "D" or "S" will go off into another dimension for a couple of minutes. RELAX! Here's a big, big differentiator for this establishment (it may mean little to you if you're only going to visit three times during a vacation). As with many restaurants in this part of the world, Katie's has lots of regular customers who are fragile. Well, they get to know them; have their emails and phone numbers; call them; visit them; get cards signed; attend their memorials. Please don't get the idea that Katie's is just a place for "locals". It's a place where you are welcome... especially if you're just visiting. If you arrive sometime around 11:00 AM, I'll be at the second two-top on your left as you enter. Brunch was amazing! Being vegan makes eating out a challenge. But it was no problem here. The black bean burger was amazing, juicy and great flavor. The onion rings were out of this world. Absolutely no clue how this place has positive reviews. We were here out of town for spring training, saw the reviews and decided to try it. It was slightly busy, typical Sunday morning, but slower than most places. No wait to be seated. Ordered food and took about 50 minutes until a waffle, a pancake, a scramble and an omelette came out. The waitress was polite but not very responsive with coffee refills. Everyone seemed very stressed while not much was being accomplished. The food itself.... horrible!! Waffle was dry and no taste. Pancake was the same. Simple tasteless bisquick mix. Scramble was literally just eggs scrambled with meats. My omelette didn't even have cheese, was dry and lacked flavor. The hash brown casserole tasted like boxed has browns. Just absolutely ruined our morning. We were late for festivities and left disappointed after such a horrible meal. So, Katie's Cafe drove me into signing up for Yelp so I could write a review. No, no one there even so much as asked, but their kind, courteous service, excellent food and the home and hearth atmosphere was enough. I'm picky. After years of experience in the food service industry, I'm someone that would probably get along well with Gordon Ramsey. Not sure what that says about me, but hey! :D I always go into a new restaurant with trepidation. I normally spot a million things that make me cringe as soon as I walk through the door. Not so at Katie's and I was so pleased. It was clean and we were greeted by Tracey right away, with a huge smile and friendly conversation. Then a wonderful cup of fresh ground coffee. I only saw the bottom of my coffee mug once and that was only because it became incredibly busy in the little restaurant that feels so much like sitting in a friend's dining room. The food was amazing, delivered hot. We stuffed ourselves full and still had enough to take home for later. The prices were great on top of it all. We've been back several times now and have been treated to the same pleasant, tasty experience, no matter what we order, when we show up, whether we find Tina or Tracey manning the helm (I know there are others, we just haven't met them all yet), it's a truly positive place to be. Even some of the patrons are willing to chat with you and joke with you, only enhancing that feeling of enjoying a meal in a friend's home. This has quickly become a favored place for my husband and I and I'd highly recommend a visit for anyone wanting a truly pleasant place to visit! read more

Perfect choice for your Sunday eggs/bacon/toast/pancakes and nice crisp (not greasy) shredded potato hash browns. Excellent food, friendly service, prices are very good ($5.89 for 2 eggs, toast, saugage). They had some very interesting specials on the daily special board including a quiche with crab, a cranberry-pumpkin cheesecake and peanutbutter pie. The breakfast was so huge there was no room left to try a dessert this trip. This place is in a strip mall that also houses Woody's BBQ so look for the Woody's sign on 53rd, as you'll probably miss the sign for this restaurant just driving by. read more

I read a number of the reviewed and they are on point. I had the 2x2x2x2. That's eggs, pancakes, bacon and sausage. The pancakes in particular were excellent. My wife had the quiche Lorraine but thought it was a bit bland. Bottom line is that the is a quality local cafe and if the man I meet at the counter can eat here 6 days a week then I can definitely return. Remember--cash only. read more
