Delicious meal!!! Clean and fast serving restaurant. The food was hot, crispy, and tasty. No complaints at all. The food was abundant and choices were overwhelming yum!
Visiting Toronto and found Katsuya on yelp. The restaurant had great reviews. We walked to the restaurant for lunch and was promptly seated when we arrived. The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
Katsuya is a Korean chain Katsu restaurant. They have very filling menu items with lots of sauce and sides. The staff is super knowlegeable on food allergies. Their soups/udon are all seafood based and contain shrimp. Their menu clearly indicates all allergen information and the staff was very good at checking in. This location has a pretty private feel, they have high ceilings and can fit 20-30 patrons pretty comfortably. Their unit also sits a half floor above street level, so it feels pretty premium. The kitchen is open concept and you can see in to where they are cooking. They do open at 11:00 and they did have a decent lunch group come in, seems popular. The sauces that came with the set were BBQ and tartar sauce based. The sets comes with cabbage salad as well as pickles to go with the meal. The cutlets are big and filling as well. Our order: - Katsu special set, a lot of food for one person - Pork loin original Katsu, great portion and amount of sauce They also have vegetarian options like cheese katsu and sweet potato. There is also a fish option as well. Great place, good price (10% cash discount), if I'm back, will try their fish or cheese Katsu.

The ambiance is really nice, which I didn't expect from the outside, staff is friendly the food is always delicious and they provide big portions! You could definitely split a meal with someone. Also very reasonable price for downtown Toronto
I went here last week with my family for lunch went we were in Toronto for vacation. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was chill. The food was good too, however I wasn't really hungry; so I opted to order the Cheese Balls, which were better than I expected. It had a sweet flavor to it, kind of reminds me of an Arepa taste. My brother got the Chicken Katsu and my parents got the Pork Katsu in which we all shared. The only thing they didn't have beverage wise was wine for my father and bottled water for me. But other than that everything was good!
Super yum, I loved the sweet chili chicken katsu I'd totally recommend! It's a very nice spot and they give you a little miso soup too!
3.5 star! Spot is a bit hidden so the restaurant has a few signs by the door to help direct you. I decided to try the carbonara udon and the cheese crabmeat croquette. The carbonara udon has tempura, mini shrimps, bacon, mushroom, and broccoli. I think the broccoli overwhelmed the dish for me a bit. Perhaps if they reduced that and added more mushroom and bacon I'd like it more? I probably recommend sticking to just their katsu dishes next time. Service was friendly. I received a small soup to enjoy before my meal and if you check in on Yelp app, you can get 1 complimentary soft drink! I think this spot is nice for a casual catchup with friends or casual date. Nice vibe, they play Korean music and food portions are good. I ended up taking home leftovers because I couldn't finish it.
One of the best plates of katsu I have ever had. That was made even better with the carbonara sauce which my husband even liked, despite his usual dissent for "unusual" preparations of his favorite dishes. That was the one meal I didn't mind doing a second time (but didn't get to) during our time in Toronto.

This review is solely based on the carbonara katsu lol this dish was sooo yummy that we had to come back again before we left to fly back home. I still think about this dish to this day. Highly recommend!! Very filling and so flavorful.
The katsu was fried to perfection. It was a good amount of food, I couldn't finish it. The service was a little slow because they only had one waiter and one cook. We got the honey fries and all my friends loved it. It was both sweet and salty - unique.
I haven't tried many katsu restaurants so I can't really compare but Katsuya has some pretty good katsu! Their menu selection is large with different types of "sauces" such as their house sauce, mayo flavours, garlic sweet chilli, Japanese style, and more. They even have katsu stuffed with cheese! They have a selection of appetizers to choose from as well. Their katsu dishes also come with a side of soup, it is normally miso soup but due to low supply chain they replaced it with udon broth. It had a nice bonito dashi flavour and completes your meal! They also offer free refills on the soup if you would like more to wash down your katsu. My go to order is usually their Japanese style Katsu with pork loin. The katsu pieces are cooked well with a crispy batter outside but the meat is still quite juicy on the inside. Their dipping sauce is on the side so you can dip as much as you prefer. They also provide a small bowl of sesame seeds to ground up and add to your dish as well. The whole set comes with ginger, yellow pickled radish, shredded cabbage to cut the grease and a bowl of rice. The portion size is big so I was full by the end of my meal. Staff here are really friendly and service was quick and efficient. They also offer a 10% discount if you pay with cash. I'd come back here if I ever crave katsu! Convenient location across TMU university.

Came here on a Friday night and was surprised it wasn't super packed! We were quickly seated and our food came out pretty quick also, though it looked like they had quite a few delivery orders to prepare. We both got the Katsuya Udon, which came with 2 pieces of shrimp tempura and lots of seafood, including fish cake, as well as a side of miso soup. Super comforting and perfect for a cold winter night! The noodles were perfectly chewy and the broth tasted great! Nothing stood out in particular, but it definitely satisfied our udon cravings! I was intrigued with the cheese katsu so I added this place on my places to eat during our canada trip. We didnt realize they opened at 12pm. We got there at 11:57am and was just waiting and sitting by the bench and then once it hit 12pm she sat us down. We ordered the cheese cutlet katsu and the carbonara katsu. I came here on a Sunday evening with the sibs and was greeted by the server who did a quick temperature check and hand sanitizing check in. The tables all have clear barriers between the tables which made me feel safer dining in. I got the terri mayo pork loin and it was delicious! Katsuya has great portions compared to other restaurants and if you take advantage of their unlimited refills of the cabbage and miso soup, you're guaranteed to be super full after your meal. One change due to COVID is that you don't get the dressing for the cabbage on the table and they put it on for you. If you like your cabbage doused in the dressing, ask or use the pickle juice from the pickled cabbage and jalapenos they give you. One bonus is that the staff gave us one crab croquette each on the house. I read another review of someone's takeout experience and they also got something for free as a thank you to supporting Katsuya during this time... which is super cute! It was also delicious and since it's freshly fried, it's still warm and the cheese inside is still gooey. Get ready for that cheese pull! Consistent with my previous experiences with Katsuya, we had great customer service. Our server was Sohyun and she checked up on us often. I would definitely return! read more

Fun, casual environment inside when my girlfriend and I came on a Monday for Lunch. Not too busy, and promptly seated. I got the Japanese katsu with chicken, and it was yummy! The chicken was super moist and the flaky bread crumbs were super light. My girlfriend got the honeycomb fish katsu. I was a little skeptical at first, but her plate was arguably better than mine and super aesthetically pleasing. Huge amount of food! Delicious casual restaurant and I would come back again. A cute spot by TMU, it's tucked away and cozy. I got the Katsuya original with pork and the cheese crabmeat croquette. I felt that I had to go with the OG on my first visit and it did not disappoint. The pork was juicy and succulent, while the breading was nice and crispy. The sauce was a perfect blend of savoury. The croquettes were a surprise, its a fried mash potato crab and cheeseball, super tasty as well! The portions were pretty sizeable, but I probably could've used more rice to mop up the delicious sauce! read more

Katsuya is minimalistic and lets the food do the talking. I enjoyed the soup broth starter. It was lovely to wet our appetite. I love the takoyaki app - soft chewy exterior with nice chewy octopus bits inside and a lot of bonito flakes. Service was a little slow as there was only 1 server but he handled it well as soon as the food order was in. The food came quickly after he placed our order. I got the creamy red carbonara udon soup. It was luscious creamy and a hint of heat that calmed down with the cream. The noodles were fresh soft and a had a good bite that tore easily. I loved the tempura shrimp and plenty of fresh scallions. The chicken katsu was so crunchy and flavorful but not greasy whatsoever. It was lovely! Kept us full but not sluggish read more
You can never go wrong with a class Japanese katsu so this slapped as per usual. Katsuya has extremely quick and efficient service to ensure you get your food ASAP! I got the original chicken katsu and it was both tender and crispy at the same time. The sauce was very flavourful, and complemented the more simple katsu beautifully. I will say that I'm dissappointed that there is no longer unlimited rice :( read more
I went here in 2019 to get some Katsu...*fast forward to 2023* it is still AMAZING!! The portion size is huge and the Katsu itself is very crispy. I like how they innovative they get with the Katsu based from looking at the menu. If you check-in with yelp, you will get a free soda. Overall highley rec this place! read more

4.5 stars: really enjoyed the Katsu (and would highly recommend trying the cheese Katsu). The breading was perfectly flakey and the meat was cooked just right. Personally, I was not a huge fan of the garlic spicy sauce, but curry was alright. read more
I've been to different Katsyua restaurants across Toronto. This is one of the ones I like better because it's got a decent amount of seating and parking right in front. The food is always pretty similar. I go for the traditional Japanese pork stuffed with cheese most times. Some of the other ones are interesting like carbonara and the spicy ones. I also love the unlimited miso soup, I know that's not something to rave about but it's a nice addition. Unfortunately there is currently a shortage on some ingredients so they are substituting for udon broth. Still good. Over all I love stopping in for quick food at this place. read more

Nice and cozy interior with places to hang your jacket throughout the restaurant. The food came out fairly quickly and it was delicious! Would definitely stray away from the spicy ones if you are not a fan of spice. I liked how there were many different options on the choice of meat, add-ons including sweet potato and cheese and being able get free refills on miso soup and an additional refill on rice. Would definitely recommend people to come here when visiting Toronto. read more

I got the Katsuya original and a gold/silver katsu to share. My friends got the curry and spicy carbonara plates as well. We also got the chicken karage and fries. Katsu was light and crispy and not too oily. The complimentary miso soup was a nice surprise. Overall very delicious meal and would definitely go again the next time I'm in Toronto. It wasn't a huge problem, but should note that this location doesn't serve alcohol. read more

I ordered the Carbonara Pork Loin Katsu! I love carbonara and I love Katsu, putting them together was super yum! The cream sauce had a slight seafood taste to it and the Katsu was fried perfectly :) You can also choose what kind of protein you like. I recommend the pork loin! Super moist and tasty! I don't recommend the carbonara if you're lactose though, super creamy. read more

This is probably the best Katsu place I've tried in Canada. They have a variety of sauces to satisfy everyone. The pork loin is fried to perfection...tender, juicy, and fully satisfy your Katsu desires. Unlike other places where they load you up on rice, Katsuya gives you a huge piece of meat. You might even finish the rice before your meat - but don't worry, you can refill the rice and miso soup. I had the Curry Cheese Katsu. The meat was filled with hot, oozing mozzarella cheese and blends with the curry. It was such an enriching experience (although gets you quite full). There was nothing I can pick on, the service was great too. And the restaurant was orderly even with large crowds of people. Remember, if you check in on Yelp you get a free pop drink! read more
Loved this place! I enjoyed seeing the variety of different katsu offered on their menu. I ended up getting the curry katsu and my friend ordered the cheese katsu the cheese was very perfect and never "solidified" like other cheeses I've had. The curry has good flavor as well. The Katsuya here may look small in pictures but THE FOOD is SO FILLING and delicious! I guarantee one item on the menu is all you'll need. I love spicy food and so upon tasting one of the items on the Hot Spicy Katsu page, I immediately felt that mouth-watering sensation. People say Japanese curry/spicy "isn't actually that spicy" but they would be wrong. The spice here is real and it makes you sweat. No complaints the food here is a must-try! Atmosphere, ambience, space tabling, decor, background music are all easy and clean. Service was fast! Overall I strongly recommend multiple visits here either in groups or pairs! Delicious and crispy katsuya! I enjoy dining in rather than their take out. We ordered their Japanese original pork loin katsu set which came with a cute piece of katsu on a wire , a bowl to grind your own sesame seed, small bowl of rice and a sauce! I ordered their red carbonara w chicken katsu and it was delicious but.... Super spicy!! I knew it would be spicy with its 3 chilies lol but it was both tasty and super spicy! I've also tried their curry katsu take out which was tasty but my personal opinion is that the fresh crispness is always better! Their prices are a bit more exp now ~$20 pp. I always liked going to katsu and plan on going back! read more

I've never had proper katsu, but I've had plenty of other Japanese and other Asian cuisine. No qualms about this being my first experience. It's a small space, probably no more than 30 people will fit, but it feels more cozy than cramped. The menu, while large, seems mostly similar to each other at first. Then while reading through I began to feel like the small differences between options was more like customizing my preferences than being limited. My waitress was very busy (solo serving the whole room) but came to me as quickly as possible. She was extremely friendly despite being obviously swamped. I ordered original fish katsu and received it in an appropriate time frame. The fish itself was a bit bland, and the sauce was very mild in flavor. Good, but mild. The ginger was a nice addition to kick the flavor up a notch. The rice was perfectly cooked, but it was just compressed white rice, not sticky rice, so it fell apart very quickly when it met the sauce of the fish katsu. Positives; the cabbage salad and its drizzled sauce was a VERY nice addition to the plate. It helped tremendously at cutting through the heaviness of the fried fish and thick sauce. Big kudos on that one. Also the onion soup that came with it was beautiful. Flavorful and delicious. No complaints on that at all. Unrelated to the food, there is an ATM right outside the entrance and Katsudon offers (at least at the time of this) 10% off all cash payments. read more

I discovered Katsuya recently and absolutely love their offerings. I've been going to their location in Mississauga, but decided to give the downtown location a try. I was having an insane craving for the Cheese Crabmeat Croquette and ordered them in my first visit. They are light, tasty, with melted cheese in the centre and a nice tartar-like sauce on the side. In my second visit I ordered the Red Carbonara Katsu (special red sauce combined with bursting spicy and smooth creamy carbonara flavours), where the richness of the carbonara sauce with seafood is taken to the next level with a nice spicy kick. The pork loin serving size was good and it was not oily. The sauce was very tasty, but the amount of red carbonara sauce is at least 1/3 less compared to what I get at the other location I go to. Service is ok; it would be nice if they included napkins in the takeout. Street parking available on Church Street. A couple short blocks from TTC streetcar 506 on Carlton. Currently they have a 30% off promotion when paying in cash. TLDR; delicious katsu, not enough carbonara sauce for the katsu read more

ive been to their locations uptown, so i was really excited to get my katsu fixed downtown! service 5/5 friendly and polite staff at all their locations and they have proper safety protocols in place due to covid. food 5/5 we got a curry chicken katsu, curry pork loin katsu, and their gold & white cheese katsu (pork wrapped around a block of mozza and cheddar cheeses, panko'd and fried!) portions are good size and food is made fresh to order! read more
As always katsuya is one of my favorite spots to hit up when ever I'm craving for katsu. I'm so glad they opened multiple spots which are super convenient all over the GTA. One of my favorites is the downtown location near Ryerson University. I had ordered take out through ubereats and ordered my all time favorite red carbonara katsu along with 5 pieces of their super popular croquettes and a side of the red carbonara sauce so I could use it to make some red carbonara udon at home another day. They make their bread crumbs in house by starting off with freshly baked bread followed by the other steps to make their bread crumbs. I love how tender the pork loin is, how golden fried the katsu is and how amazingly delicious the red carbonara sauce is! It is a cream sauce base with a kick to it, some pieces of seafood can usually be found (i.e shrimp) , bacon, chili flakes l, etc. But it is one of the must get dishes if you like spicy. The set meal comes with shredded cabbage with dressing, soup and a side of rice. The croquettes are coated in their in house bread crumbs followed by a deep fry to achieve a beautiful golden brown color. The mash potatoes and mozzarella cheese filling in the center oozes out and paired with their made in house tarter sauce, it's absolutely superb! P.S - if you order take out or dine in and ask for an extra rice or cabbage it's free of charge! read more
Food: 4.5 Stars Service: 4 Stars Ambience: 4.5 Stars Fill Factor: Stuffed I learned of Katsuya from a friend who had heard great things about it. We tried coming here on a weekend for dinner and the lineup was pretty bad so we decided to go elsewhere and come back to try Katsuya another time. Well I was in the area and could not wait any longer to try this place so I went without my friend (sorry man). First thing you need to do when you walk in is to put your name on the waitlist located just past the chairs in the waiting area. I ordered the double cheese sweet chili katsu which is pork loin with mozzarella and cream cheese. First off this dish was listed as one chili (I think it goes up to five chilies) and I felt this was a good amount of spice as I did taste some spiciness but not enough to detract from the flavour of the rest of the dish. As for the taste, the katsu was nice and crispy on the outside and the mozzarella/cream cheese combination was tasty. To me the sauce was the star of the dish and I found myself trying to clean it up as much as possible with my rice. The dish also comes with a huge mound of salad which you can top off with the dressing that sits in the large metal bottles at each table (thankfully the staff advised us otherwise I probably would have used it on the katsu). The restaurant itself was bright and felt spacious. The seats were divided into regular tables and high top tables. I was seated at one of the high tables and a neat thing was that the chairs had cubby holes to hold my belongings which was nice. In terms of service, the line up for seats moved fairly quickly and the staff were friendly. The food was ready in a very reasonable amount of time. I will need to buy my friend dinner to make up for not waiting to come together to have the awesome food here. I definitely recommend this place and am already planning what I want to try next time I come. read more
Great Katsu place!! Lots of variations and sauces. Katsu is crispy and breading is light. The curry sauce for the original Katsu has a slight sweetness to it and isn't too heavy as a sauce. The red carbonara sauce has heat to it so only order if you can handle a bit of spiciness, there's seafood mixed in the sauce and it's more on the creamy side so it sits a bit heavier. Both katsu dishes came with soup, rice, and cabbage slaw. Portions were huge and you get 10% off if you pick cash. read more
