This little coffee shop up by the beach is adorable. I had an egg cheese sausage bagel , pecan cinnamon roll and a large coffee. Everything was delicious The pecan cinnamon roll could not be more decadent with flavor ! Fortunately they are only available on Sat and Sun....or I'd weigh 500 pounds. If you're staying in Imperial Beach, Katy's Cafe is just a short walks away. It looks quite small on the outside, but it can fit a good crowd. The thing that I enjoyed about this cafe is that it has its own specialty that caught my eye, the "Mermaid Special". I think this drink was pretty alright. It was subtle and nice the first few sips, but then you start to taste all the syrup and bitter coffee at the bottom which wasn't as pleasant. The Mexican Mocha was pretty good since the amount of ice was the perfect amount. I would say the wait time to get your coffee after ordering it is pretty speedy, but it can get busy quick! We did order a açaí bowl, and that came out pretty slow unfortunately. Would I go to this cafe again? I think it's a nice place to try out in the area, but I think there can be better options. read more

This is a cute little cafe right near the ocean. There's two tables on the back patio which is nice for COVID and if you have a dog. A little hard to find depending on which way you come from since there's a handful of shops next to it and only a small sign. Park up the street and walk, probably not worth trying to park super close. Wish the tables had some shade, but not a huge deal - one goes to the beach for sun anyways! The smoothies were good, we had strawberry and peach. Wanted to try the acai bowl, but they were out of a few ingredient (we came later in the afternoon). Ended up getting two sandwiches. I love this establishment. It's known by the locals and they serve great beach breakfast comfort foods. Everyone that works there is super cool hip youngsters and they get your order right! This is exactly what I was expecting from a local coffee shop. Alina stirred the drinks which is a key step to any coffee drink. I informed Alina it was nice to see she made the drinks right as I was a barista for 6 years. I was very pleased and cannot wait to be back. I ordered an extra hot caramel macchiato and got a lukewarm one. I took it back t I have it re-done (I don't enjoy guzzling my coffee), and then they made it scalding hot! It burnt the inside of my mouth and my lip. I would much rather support small businesses than go to Starbucks. But places like this keep me from taking chances on them. read more

Been coming here since 2015, love the shop, location and miss Katy a lot! Have been a couple times since under new ownership and still great food just not the same service. Came by today and got the Al's Cali King (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) however the customer service was not great. The younger man and woman working there were very rude, seemed like we were inconveniencing them by even placing an order. Very well dressed, professional group of people came in shortly after us and the staff's behavior was completely different. I was here last month when I stayed nearby for a week. I absolutely loved the smoothies and the breakfast sandwich. I had to take off some stars because of my first experience with them and their covid negligence. There was a pretty long line indoors and half of the customers had their masks down over their chins and were talking to their friends spreading their breath throughout the air. The cashier had a mask on but it would keep slipping down and uncovering her nose. She had to keep pulling it back up every 20 seconds. At no point did any of the staff tell the customers to please put their masks on. I don't know if it was just an off day though, because the next few days when I came back all of the customers had their masks on and I even saw another staff member ask someone to put their mask on. I hope the staff keep doing their part and ask people to keep their masks on according to health guidelines. read more

Came here for some breakfast, since we were staying at the Pier Hotel that was 2 blocks away. So glad we came! It was just me and my daughter (under 2) that were in the store ordering. The barista that helped me was super friendly and make good small talk. As we were chatting about the Baltimore Ravens, a guy came in the store without a mask and tried to order a coffee. Immediately, she politely asked the gentleman if he had a mask. He mumbled something and said, "fine I'll get one, but start on my drink first." He walked out and one of the locals there said "he's a local too. I've seen him here a couple times". The barista said, "I understand, but we have new guests here and it's for the safety of us all". She diffused the uncomfortable situation like a pro. He got his order and wasn't too butt hurt about the request. She thanked him and made a compliment about his warm looking coat. Everyone was happy and went on their way. Food was FANTASTIC. Very simple, not a lot of options, but those breakfast sandwiches were SO good. I ordered 3 different ones (out of the 5 that they offered). The local guy said they have a "McGriddle" type sandwich that is out of this world, but unfortunately it was a weekend only sandwich. Coffee itself was aromatic and delicious. I got wifey a Chai Latte and she said it's one of the best she's had. Kids enjoyed their hot chocolate too. 4.5 stars!!! Since our neighborhood coffee shop is temporarily closed today- we opted to go outta our neck of the woods & eat al fresco. Of course this meant bringing our fur baby, Bronx, to join us- that way we can take him on a walk afterwards. Reading previous posts- it looked like it was a free for all to bring dogs. As we pulled into a parking stall right in front of Katy's Cafe- there's a sign posted right by the door- NO PETS ALLOWED!! Except service animals. So, hubby was a bit discouraged. And, I told him to hold on & let me check. I walk inside (and I'm sure it's the business owner- pretty blonde lady). I explain how we have our bulldog inside of the car & asked if the sign pertains to eating at the tables out front. She said that's not a problem... (Bronx isn't a service dog of any kind). Anyhow, she thanks me for asking-- only because she stated how she doesn't want to get fined for having an animal inside & that she's actually been bit/ attacked twice. So- I had to start my review with that being said. Now, since we arrived for breakfast- there were tons of breakfast sandwich options available (served with croissant or bagel). That's why I docked a half star--- it's be nice to offer chips w/ the breakfast sandwiches. (I noticed chips were offered for the lunch menu). Although I didn't personally ask the cashier if I could get a bag of chips-- there was no display of chips visible. Ordering at the counter was a breeze. There are a variety of options from smoothies, hot/ cold teas, & hot/ cold coffees. I picked the Chipotle (meat of choice ) sausage croissant. It came toasted, with chipotle spread, pepper jack cheese, spinach, & tomatoes, & a fried egg . It was delicious & every time I bit into it- none of the ingredients spilled out. Despite how piled on the spinach heaped. I ordered a medium latte w/ almond milk. Which came piping hot (in a good way). I felt like I could squeezed in something else to fully satisfy my appetite. But, all in all- it was good. Service was great. Chatting with other customers while waiting for our orders is always a plus. Omg this place was a cute like "surf/beach" vibe place! We were staying at an Airbnb down the road and decided to walk there which I'm so glad we did! This place wasn't your upscale place but it made me feel like home. Service was good, the lady called out names and dropped the food off to us which was nice of her. I must say I really enjoyed my croissant breakfast sandwich but can't remember what it was called! I just remember it having pepper-jack cheese and a chipotle sauce. I added avocado and for me that made it perfect to my taste! My friends and I all enjoyed our drinks and food so much we couldn't stop talking about it. The food and drinks are such a reasonable price, in my opinion. When I decide to visit Imperial beach again, this is one place I'll be grabbing a quick but delicious bite. read more
